Fancy Friday – Think Pink

Welcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop! Our team is a group of stampers who love to make beautiful things. Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy! If you hopped over from the amazing Susan Wong, welcome to the next stop. For February, we have an inspiration challenge….Think Pink!

I have loved this beautiful bird image from Strength & Prayers since I got it and I wanted to use it for a non-sympathy card. I thought playing with it in pink would be fun. I stamped the image onto watercolor paper and also stamped the splatters from Gorgeous Grunge. Then I started a loose watercolor with Pink Pirouette followed by additional coloring with Melon Mambo. I just pulled the color right from the lid of my ink pads using an Aqua Painter. Super easy to do, especially when you get to go out of the lines like I did here. After the color dried back a bit, I went back in and layered in some more Melon Mambo to add more depth. The sentiment is from a Paper Pumpkin set and I thought the font was a nice match to the art on the image. I added a small border on the colored panel with Basic Black card stock and put it on a Pop of Pink DSP base. Lots of pink here but you could use any color singly or a combination for a different look.

I hope you enjoy this fun look! There are some serious “pink girls” in our hop and I just know they will have had a great time creating with this theme.

Freshly Made Sketches #276

I hope you are having a great week so far. After a very busy weekend of soccer, yard work and some other family things, I got just a few minutes to stamp for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. Fortunately, the sketch from Amy is super easy to use and totally flexible!

I opted to pull out this pretty little flower from Cas-ual Fridays Stamps and did a simple coloring using just the Pink Zig Marker. Something about the pop from the pink to make an impact! I cut it out with the coordinating die and then decided to use a Paper Pumpkin sentiment. It is a great way to lead into the sentiment inside (Thanks, in this case). I liked the look of the texture from the watercolor paper so I used it for the middle panel as well as for the flower. I accented it with a narrow border of Melon Mambo and put it all on Basic Gray base. Some Sparkling Clear sequins (PPP) are the perfect way to finish…I always love these with gray!

Newton’s Nook Designs February Release – Newton Loves Cake

I’m back with our last day of February Release Week with Newton’s Nook Designs! And oh what fun you are going to have! Our favorite feline is back and there is cake (and cupcakes)!! How could anyone resist?!
I think this set is simply a must have. A cat, some cake and fabulously fun sentiment! Talk about knocking it out of the park!! It is hard to tell from my picture here but my card is actually a “wobble” card. And because you just have to see it in action, I created a video to show you. I colored the image with Copic markers (colors below) and then added an action wobbler behind the die cut image. On my video I show you how well the dies line up to make your die cutting perfect every time. Love that!

Newton’s Nook Design February Release – Beautiful Spring

I’m back with Day 2 of February Release Week with Newton’s Nook Designs! Today we are changing directions a bit with a beautiful swirls addition called Beautiful Spring. As with all the sets in this collection, the images lend themselves to so many coloring variations and elegant, unique projects.These beautiful images just begged to be colored with happy spring colors so out came the Copics (colors listed below) and I started just playing with the variety of eggs. I confess that I got completely distracted and colored all the designs before I got back on track for putting this together. I love how easily the die set cuts these out!! I created a watercolor layer behind the eggs to help them pop and then thought this fun sentiment was just the one for the card. With all the fantastic choices in this set, you are going to really enjoy all the ways to color. Just go ahead and stamp them all at once and have fun! And you know you need to have this so take advantage of this great opportunity…

Freshly Made Sketches #275

As a programming note, if you are looking for day 2 of the Newton’s Nook February Release it will be up in a second post. For this card, I’m working with another fantastic sketch for Freshly Made Sketches created by the queen of layers, Narelle. The way she has layered this sketch speaks to how she always has the most lovely details.

When I saw the scallop, I immediately thought of this flower from Altenew’s Botanical Garden set. I pulled out my Zig again and this time focused on Peacock Blue. Love that blue! I aded a little yellow in the center and combined greens for the leaves but generally some super quick coloring. With the blue being so striking, I chose this pale background, Fog from Simon Says Stamp. Using the scraps from where I colored the flower, I cut two banners and colored one with the green and left one plain. Finally I added this little Paper Pumpkin sentiment and some Basic Pearls. It was nice to stretch into a different set of colors this week and I think this sketch is going to be fun for everyone.

Newton’s Nook Designs February Release – Newton’s Pot of Gold

Are you ready for another week of amazing releases from Newton’s Nook Designs??? Just say yes because you are going to LOVE what we have to show this week! First up Newton himself is making an appearance and he seems to have the luck of the Irish! Newton’s Pot of Gold is being featured along with the Land Borders die set.

This sweet little stamp set is perfect for your St. Patrick’s Day fun but I love that the sentiments will be ones you can turn to again and again. I started by coloring my image with Copic Markers (colors listed below) and while I was coloring, I had some inspiration. How about using sequins as gold?! Yes, they are totally perfect with the scale of the image and I could not even be more excited about how this turned out. So how did I get the sequins on there? It was actually easier than I thought it would be. I put a ‘blob’ (yep, official crafting term) of Ranger Multi Medium Matte Glue on a scrap of paper and then using a toothpick end, applied the glue where I wanted it to be. Then just added the sequin on top. I put down one layer in the placement of the gold on the stamp image and once dry, added some more on top. This glue dries pretty quickly and most importantly, it dries with a matte finish.

I needed just the right layer for this fun image to go on, so I created a little interest using the Land Borders Die. I cut a piece of Green Apple Card Stock (SSS) with the border die, then laid it on some white card stock and cut again with a stitched rectangle. The sentiment is really one that I’m happy to add to my repertoire (being a ~~hoarder~~ collector of sentiments). Now here is the best part….

Freshly Made Sketches #274

So on Saturday, I had the most lovely invitation to go to an event that was a “bring your own craft” kind of thing. There were Stampin’ Up demos and customers along with some other company reps and friends. These ladies get together each month to just make things all day. I know what you are thinking and you are right! It was awesome! I could only go for a few hours but it is amazing how much that time is good for the soul. Per my usual, I accomplished very little because I’m never sure what to pack (and I’m the slowest stamper). But I did bring along this flower to color and some things that I might be able to use for this sketch from Freshly Made Sketches. I have to say that I just love the creative possibilities that this week’s hostess, the lovely Jennifer Brum, has given us!

I only used two colors from my Zig Clean Color Pack (a bright pink and a yellow) to color this flower but I love how they work together and blend to create the orange. With the strength of the flowers colors, I opted to use a neutral base so I chose Smoky Slate. The sentiment is from the same Altenew set as the flower (Beautiful Day) and I stamped it in Versafine ink and the layered the white with some Melon Mambo. I added some Daffodil ribbon that I have ~~hoarded~~ in my stash since it is so pretty with the flower. I think I’ll be adding this sketch to my go-to group. I see lots of ways to use it!

And yes, the team has definitely come up with some of them. As always, they are amazing! Well, lots of posts this week and I’m back to the stamp room to get ready for some more coming up soon. Sweet Hearts for Newton’s Nook Designs

Today I’m sharing a fun bonus card using the Woodland Duos Stamp Set by Newton’s Nook Designs. When this set released in January, I have to admit that I first focused on the darling critters. As I looked at the set more, though, I realized that these little heart images were ones that I needed to use as soon as possible!

I stamped the hearts using three colors (Daffodil Delight, Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo from SU). I used my Misti to make sure they were inked really well so you can see the fabulous detail of each heart. Then using the little heart die from the coordinating Darling Hearts Dies I cut them out. The hardest part of the card is lining up the hearts. But I believe in smarter not harder! You want to see how I did it to make it simple? Yep, I thought so!I started by using my grid mat to line them up and get the spacing right.Then, I laid some Press and Seal Wrap onto the hearts so I could move them and keep their positioning.Finally, I added foam tape to the backs of the hearts and attached them to my white card stock. Just carefully pull off the Press and Seal and the alignment is perfect. And you look like a genius! I added some retired SU washi tape along the sides of my card base. I thought the pattern was a nice match to the patterns in the hearts. The sentiment comes from another January release set, Love & Chocolate. I added a little baker’s twine to the top to finish the card.

While this could certainly be a Valentine, I actually created this card as a birthday card for my youngest son who just turned 11. He is such a great kid and he makes all of our lives a bit sweeter. This is the absolute perfect sentiment for him! Hope you have enjoyed my card and my tips. Can’t wait to hear what you think!

Inky Paws #40

I am happy to be joining in the latest Inky Paws Challenge today! This is such a fun challenge site and one I know you are going to love. A great place to share your Newton’s Nook Designs creations! This week there is a sketch challenge so you KNOW I had to join in!

I used this adorable little set called Newton’s Birthday Flutter. When you hit the age I am (unnamed, of course), there is a need for humor in your cards. I knew I would find lots of uses when I got this! For the record, the inside sentiment says “so I ate him”. Love it!! I sent this to my sister-in-law who I know will appreciate the humor. I colored this sweet kitty with my Zig Clean Color Pens and added some fun DSP to follow the sketch. I hope you enjoy it!

Newton’s Nook Sweet Treats Blog Hop

I have such a fun, well, treat to share with you today! Newton’s Nook Designs is having its annual Sweet Treats Blog Hop to share fun packaging ideas just in time for Valentine’s Day. You are going to have a great time hopping through and seeing all the projects!

I knew immediately that I just had to use this great set from the January Release called Love & Chocolate. The sweet little candies and goodies are such fun to color. During release week, I played with the other items but the little chocolate covered strawberries still needed some love. What better time than to add them to this project?! I had fun making one kind of a dark chocolate and one more of a milk chocolate. So many ways to enjoy coloring them! The sentiment pretty much sums it up, don’t you think?! Yeah…me too! Stamped it and colored the little hearts and then cut it out with a Stitched Circle die to create a tag and just popped the strawberries up on foam tape. This fun bag was left over from a kit last year. As I went through my drawer of bags and boxes, this practically jumped out and I knew it would be just right for the tag! All I had left was to add a little bit of black baker’s twine and a cute clip. Easy to fill with some treats and fun to duplicate. Can you guess what some elementary teachers will be getting this year? *smile*
