So how is your spring going so far? I’m convinced that Virginia really hasn’t gotten the memo yet (although I did see some gorgeous hyacinths today so there is hope!). Clearly I had no other choice but to create a little spring in the craft room instead! And conveniently enough, our Freshly Made Sketches challenge this week leaves loads of room for flowers….even a Mondo flower! Big thanks to design team member Lee Ann Barrett for a fabulous sketch with room for images, techniques or designer paper prints.
I looked at all my Mondo flowers by Ellen Hutson but thought the new Mondo Gerbera Daisy was the way to go for spring. I’m not sure there is an actual Gerbera in this color combo but I’d love to have it in my garden if it exists! I used Copics to shade just the base of the petals and the center of the flower leaving the white space at the edges. I think having all the white makes the color pop even more. The sentiment is from the same set and I love this calligraphy look!
This is Lee Ann’s first sketch with FMS so I hope you show her some extra love and even play along. Designing sketches can be intimidating and her classic look will surely be a hit! Thanks so much for stopping in today. See you soon!
Happy Friday!! It is my week to share on the Picket Fence Studios blog and I’m so excited to share my card with you. And then there is tomorrow….the start of Creativation (a huge industry event). The January release has been timed to correspond with the start of all the fun there so make sure you come back tomorrow to see projects with the new products.
So for today, I used one of the first sets I got from Picket Fence called Rose Bouquet. It is gorgeous!! And it is meant for coloring of ALL kinds. I chose Zig Clean Color Markers. I love these pens for the precision tips and nice blending. I find that they work best on a Bristol paper so that is what I stamped the image on using the Black Hybrid Ink which I love for watercoloring. It doesn’t budge!
I layered on pinks and reds for the roses and then moved to olive greens for the leaves. To make the image pop more, I used a gray marker around the edges and blended it out. Once I had most of the coloring done, I went back and added the deepest of each color to get more depth and shadowing. While this takes a bit of time, I love coloring and I enjoy watching the project develop as I add shading. Since I didn’t want to cover up any of the image, I chose vellum for my sentiment. And you know what?? I found that I had this sentiment already stamped and heat embossed sitting right on my desk. It was left over from a design where I changed my mind but it was PERFECT for this card. So nice when that happens! I finished the card with some sequins from Pretty Pink Posh and found this pretty pink envelope from Simon Says Stamp to match.
Thanks so much for stopping in today! I hope you have a great weekend and I’ll see you again tomorrow!
Happy National Coffee Day!! If ever there was something worth celebrating, it is definitely coffee! I am thrilled to be part of the Coffee Loving Cardmakers hop today. So many Super Sponsors! So many prizes!!
The hop starts over at the Coffee Loving Cardmakers’ blog. You should have come to me via the amazing Wendy McGaffey. I have all the links later in my post if you get lost along the way.
I decided I should pull out the adorable Cup of Cocoa set from Newton’s Nook Designs today. Make sure to comment here and around the hop for chances to win. Also, the Newton’s Nook Designs team is doing a hop too with another chance to win.
I colored these fun cups with my Copic Markers and then created a shaker card with the Storybook Dies. The sequins from Picket Fence Studios were perfect to match the cups. I think the sentiment from the stamp set is fantastic for today’s hop theme!! Lots of cups of cheer all around blogland!!
I’m so happy that Newton’s Nook Designs allowed me to feature their prize! Make sure you don’t miss out on the chance to win! Now on to the rest of the hop. Next up is Maria Peters over on Instagram.

Today is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog. I’m fully into all things fall at this point and, apparently, obsessed with leaves. Shades of Autumn was a natural for me to grab for today’s project.
I wanted to go with a monochromatic look but with something a little less expected. So I pulled out my Fog Gray paper from Simon Says Stamp and used the Falling Leaves Stencil with the new Embossing Paste from Stampin’ Up. I love the look of the leaves on the soft gray! The leaf from the stamp set was stamped in Smoky Slate (SU) and the veining of the leaf image shows up so beautifully!! I added a sentiment from the set. A great go-to sentiment!! Many time when I use grays, I’m drawn to use the Sparkling Clear Sequins from Pretty Pink Posh and they work perfectly here.
I hope you like my card for today. With all that is happening in the world, make sure you take time to give thanks for the many people who mean so much to you. Glad you stopped in to see me. Hope to see you again soon!
Stamp: Shades of Autumn (Newton’s Nook Designs); Ink: Smoky Slate, Verafine Onyx Black; Paper: Thick Whisper White (SU), Fog Gray (SSS); Accessories: Big Shot, Stitched Rectangles Dies (SSS), Misti, Sparklin Clear Sequins (Pretty Pink Posh), Dimensionals
A quick card for today’s Inky Paws #47 Challenge. I loved the colors in this challenge so I just had to play along! I thought this little Newton Loves Cake set was perfect for the challenge and I had not colored this particular image yet so win, win!
I stamped Newton on some Tim Holtz Watercolor Paper and colored with Zig Clean Color Markers to match the challenge colors. Fun and simple to do! Then, using the coordinating dies I cut out the image. I added this awesome sentiment (because it really is ALL about the cake) plus some baker’s twine and sequins. I always need birthday cards on hand and this one is quick to duplicate…always a plus!
I hope you will find a moment to join the challenge. You have two weeks and this color palette is sure to inspire. Thanks so much for stopping in today. See you soon!
Stamp: Newton Loves Cake (Newton’s Nook Designs); Ink: WPlus9 Black Dye Ink, Zig Clean Color Markers; Paper: Tim Holtz Watercolor, Bermuda Bay (SU); Accessories: Big Shot, Newton Loves Cake Dies (Newton’s Nook Designs), Misti Stamp Tool, Stitched Rectangles Dies (SSS), Dimensionals, Sequins (Pretty Pink Posh), Baker’s Twine (SU ret)
The week is flying by and today is the last day of release week for Newton’s Nook Designs. Your favorite kitty is back again today and this time Newton gets a scooter!
This little kitty called out to be a girl to me so I gave her a hot pink scooter and some great coordinating accessories. Don’t you love her scarf? The sentiments that go with this image are just fantastic for many different occasions. Love that!
I colored our little friend using Zig Clean Color Markers and created a background with Distress Ink. I pulled some of the colors from the image and found coordinating paper from my stash that matched perfectly. YAY! The scallop border is created with the Sky Borders Dies and it is just the right layer for adding my sentiment. The clouds in the set would have been fun on the background circle but somehow one ending up as the “exhaust” instead. Oh so cute! You can get you chance to win this free but make sure you work fast!
Would you like to win the “Newton Scoots By” Stamp Set? This set will be given away to ONE lucky winner!

Did you enjoy day 1 of the May release from Newton’s Nook Designs? Well, I’m sure you will be just as thrilled with the reveal for Day 2! This is my second post of the day so if you are looking for Freshly Made Sketches, just roll to the next post.
I’m going to tell you right now that I have only just started playing with this new set called Newton Dreams of Italy. Just look at the adorable images and so many ways to have fun! But the very first thing that came to mind was use gondola image and create Newton’s very own little river.
I looked up some information on gondolas and found out that they are traditionally black. I found some fun images that showed that the insides have different colors but saw quite a number of versions that were red. I went with that and then made sure that Newton himself was all decked out in the appropriate gear. Isn’t he just too cute?! I created the river using the Land Border Dies on different angles. Then I simply cut it out again using a rectangle. I sponged on Distress Ink to create the water and then on a background panel, I added a little more color to help the water pop. I looked up pictures of the actual Rialto bridge as an inspiration for the shading here (just a little light blue). Finally, I added a little “Ciao bella” (hello beautiful) that you can just imagine coming from our dapper friend here. Hard to see on the black base but I added some striped embossing too. You are going to have such fun with the images in this set. I just know the team has knocked this one out of the park too. Of course you can get the set for free….don’t you love that?!

I hope you have had a wonderful start to your week! I’m here to make sure a great week is assured with the May release from Newton’s Nook Designs. There is lots to love with this one and it all starts with an adorable version of our favorite bear, Winston!
Do you have golfers in your life? If so, you need this set called Winston’s Tee Time. As soon as possible! Our friend Winston is having some fun at the course and he comes with some awesome sentiments too. I just love a great pun and this set has them for sure.
I thought a shaker card would be perfect with this set and I’m super happy with the result! I created the frame with some stitched rectangle dies and added texture with a wood grain embossing folder. Then I created the golf green for the inside of the shaker with the Land Borders Die. I stamped the images with Momento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with Copic Markers. The little flag was attached inside the shaker area and then I put in some sequins that match Winston’s outfit. My oldest son is convinced that Winston is going to miss his shot but I am pretty sure he is just reading a complicated green. And clearly there are some hazards to deal with, haha! While this set is great for Father’s Day, it is also just perfect for any golf fan! And I just bet you know the best part….you can get the set for free!

Back for Day 2 of release week for the March release from Newton’s Nook Designs. And you are totally going to be overwhelmed with cuteness today! The set we are showing is called Lovable Laundry and it has a coordinating Stitched Onesie Die….sweetness overload!
There are so many cute onesie designs in this set and I have to admit that I have already colored them all. Talk about a distraction! I just could not decide what colors to use so….I used pretty much ALL of them. The good news is that I have a little stack ready for baby cards at a moments notice.
I stamped the onesie using Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto Thick Whisper White card stock and then colored using Copic Markers (colors listed below). I just love how easy it is to cut it out with the Stitched Onesie Die and just look at that cute stitching that the die adds. Small details make such a difference! I wanted to show this off with a clean card so I cut out this stitched heart with the Darling Hearts die and added the little sentiments from the set. There are so many combinations that you are sure to find just the right one. And the little hanger is from my stash. Can I admit now that when you find something from long ago that works right, it is NOT helpful in encouraging a de-stash. Now I will use all of these hangers that I have on hand (from 2013 no less). While I wanted clean, I did not want plain so I added these embossed dots and the beautiful Sparkling Clear Sequins to add some interest to the card. I’m sure you know by now that the next step is a great opportunity for Newton’s Nook Design fans!!

I hope you are having a great week so far. After a very busy weekend of soccer, yard work and some other family things, I got just a few minutes to stamp for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. Fortunately, the sketch from Amy is super easy to use and totally flexible!
I opted to pull out this pretty little flower from Cas-ual Fridays Stamps and did a simple coloring using just the Pink Zig Marker. Something about the pop from the pink to make an impact! I cut it out with the coordinating die and then decided to use a Paper Pumpkin sentiment. It is a great way to lead into the sentiment inside (Thanks, in this case). I liked the look of the texture from the watercolor paper so I used it for the middle panel as well as for the flower. I accented it with a narrow border of Melon Mambo and put it all on Basic Gray base. Some Sparkling Clear sequins (PPP) are the perfect way to finish…I always love these with gray!
Long day at work today so I’m keeping this short. I will be back on Friday with this month’s Fancy Friday. Thanks for stopping in today!! See you soon!
