Freshly Made Sketches #395

Freshly Made Sketches #395 published on 6 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #395

Happy middle of the week! I hope yours is going well. So I have a confession. Last week my family and I were on vacation. I generally don’t mention it too much until we get back for safety and security but it was really fun. And then reality came back with a work trip that went a day over and dealt with lots of unique issues (Newark shutting down a runway, lots of weather, timing out). In any case, all of this has cut WAY into my crafting time. I find that is generally true during the summer. For some people, it is the time to relax. For my job, it is the busy season. So with all that, I am still trying to find time to craft. I need to do it!

So yesterday I forced the issue and stamped one of my favorite images. The Mondo Hydrangea from Ellen Hutson is just so pretty. I also pulled out my Zig Clean Color Markers which had been sadly neglected. I used a light blue and a light purple to shade this flower.

I also would be negligent not to share that Ellen Hutson is having a sale! If you want this set, now is the time!!

Just click the graphic to see more. This takes you to my affiliate link and there is no extra cost to you.

After some false starts, I finally decided to just add a pale watercolor wash to keep with the fun sketch by Jen Mitchell for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches. It looks really light here but is a little more noticeable in person. The sentiment comes from the same stamp set and works perfectly here.

And here is my color inspiration for the flowers. You see, before I got to color yesterday, I had been out weeding around these beauties. My white hydrangeas are anything but dull and always have such pretty and interesting shades.

I hope you enjoy this bit of watercoloring and that you will join us with Jen’s sketch. So many great ways to use it! For those in the US, I wish you a safe and happy Independence Day! Thanks for stopping in today. See you soon!

So you may have noticed (especially if you follow me in Instagram) that I have been trying hard to participate in the Daily Marker 30 Day Challenge as much as possible this month.  I really am trying to eek out more coloring, even if only for a few minutes.  So this card is a reflection of that as I found the perfect way to use the sketch by Karren Johnson for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.  Karren is an amazing Copic colorist and this sketch lends itself to colored images, bold panels and word dies, among other things.

FMS376 by Jen Timko | Mondo Gerbera Daisy Stamp Set by Ellen Hutson, Zig Clean Color Real Brush MarkersI chose to use this new Mondo Gerbera Daisy by Ellen Hutson as my focal image.  I stamped in black ink and then colored it with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers.  I chose a number of corals/reds/pinks to play with the shading on the flower.  It didn’t take long and I love it.  The flower reminds me of the Gerbera Daisies my dad would grow when I was little.  There is something velvety and special about these flowers and I was thrilled that Ellen came out with this one.

A super quick post today.  I’m back at work this week and it seems harder that usual after spending time at my mom’s last week.  Off to bed to be ready for winter weather fun tomorrow!  I hope you have a great day and will play along this week.  See you soon.

Rose Bouquet

Happy Friday!!  It is my week to share on the Picket Fence Studios blog and I’m so excited to share my card with you.  And then there is tomorrow….the start of Creativation (a huge industry event).  The January release has been timed to correspond with the start of all the fun there so make sure you come back tomorrow to see projects with the new products.

Beautiful Inside and Out by Jen Timko | Rose Bouquet Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Zig Clean Color Markers, Watercolor, FlowersSo for today, I used one of the first sets I got from Picket Fence called Rose Bouquet.  It is gorgeous!!  And it is meant for coloring of ALL kinds.  I chose Zig Clean Color Markers.  I love these pens for the precision tips and nice blending.  I find that they work best on a Bristol paper so that is what I stamped the image on using the Black Hybrid Ink which I love for watercoloring. It doesn’t budge!

I layered on pinks and reds for the roses and then moved to olive greens for the leaves.  To make the image pop more, I used a gray marker around the edges and blended it out.  Once I had most of the coloring done, I went back and added the deepest of each color to get more depth and shadowing.  While this takes a bit of time, I love coloring and I enjoy watching the project develop as I add shading.  Since I didn’t want to cover up any of the image, I chose vellum for my sentiment.  And you know what??  I found that I had this sentiment already stamped and heat embossed sitting right on my desk.  It was left over from a design where I changed my mind but it was PERFECT for this card.  So nice when that happens!  I finished the card with some sequins from Pretty Pink Posh and found this pretty pink envelope from Simon Says Stamp to match.

Thanks so much for stopping in today!  I hope you have a great weekend and I’ll see you again tomorrow!

Freshly Made Sketches #369

Happy New Year to you all!!  I hope you have had a nice holiday season and are looking forward to what 2019 brings.  I’ll admit that I’m pretty good with seeing 2018 leave.  Not a great year for our family.  But onward we go!  I’m happy to share the first Freshly Made Sketches challenge of the year and we have some pretty exciting news too.  More on that in a bit.

FMS369 by Jen Timko | Cup of Thanks Stamp Set and Dies by Studio Katia, Zig Clean Color Real Brush MarkersLet’s start with our new sketch.  I fell in love with this classic look as soon as I saw it and thought it would be the perfect excuse to use the Cup of Thanks stamp that was sitting unused and calling to be colored.  And I pulled out my Zig Clean Color markers too.  I haven’t used them in a while and I remember why I loved them from the first time I used them.  Such vibrant colors and so easy to blend.  I find that the blending is based on your paper and the Bristol paper really works wonderfully with them.  I chose some bright, happy colors and just spent a few minutes coloring all the pretty details. After I finished the coloring I looked to the details of the sketch and how to finish the card.  First, I found this lime green print in my stash of retired SU paper and cut it using the Double Stitched Rectangles Dies (Gina Marie Designs).  I added a strip of Doll Pink card stock that I thought was a nice match to the coloring.  Then I cut the sentiment from the coordinating Cup of Thanks Dies and cut out the colored image too.

Now for some exciting news!  Our DT Call over at Freshly Made Sketches was more successful than we could have imagined!!  So many talented designers entered and we had a really hard time narrowing down.  In fact, we chose three because we just could not narrow further!  So please hop over to the FMS challenge blog and give a warm welcome to Lee Ann Barrett, Judy Rozema and Jacquie Southas!  Well, I’m off to my check ride at United today.  We get these every 9 months and they are very important to maintaining safety and standardization.  I’ll be happy to get this under my belt (no matter how many I do, they always bring a bit of stress).  Back soon with more once I’m back from training.  See you then!!  Thanks for stopping by today.

Santa and His Reindeer

I have two more cards to share with you today that I created for the Picket Fence Studios new release.  I have had such fun with the new sets and will be sharing more with you over the next weeks too.  Today, I’m focusing on Santa and his reindeer.  Two adorable sets!  And don’t forget my GIVEAWAY….see my post from Sunday to enter.

Ho Ho Ho by Jen Timko | Santa's Mishief Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Copic Coloring, Framework Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsI love all the Santa images in the Santa’s mischief set and the sentiments are awesome too.  Lots of possibilities for fun cards!  I fell in love with the CAS(E) this Sketch challenge #289 and thought it wold be fun to use for this card.  I stamped Santa in Momento Tuxedo Black ink and colored him with my Copics.  I thought the Framework Dies  were a great shape for the sketch and used it to cut some of the Festive Farmhouse paper (SU).  I added a sentiment from the set onto some Wood Textures paper (SU) and then layered on the elements.

Santa Did It by Jen Timko | Santa's Sleigh Ride Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Zig Clean Color MarkersFor my second card, I chose three of the reindeer from Santa’s Sleigh Ride and watercolored them with Zig Clean Color Pens.  Using a mask that I created with the Land Borders Dies I added a distress ink background with my Life Changing Blender Brushes.  And yes, they really are THAT good!!  Super smooth and absolutely zero brush or blending lines!  I put the panel on a base of School House Red card stock and added the sentiment onto a banner.  It is embossed with Wow Bright White Embossing Powder.

I hope you enjoy these cards and don’t forget to enter for my giveaway!!  See you soon!

Welcome to the last of the June Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Our favorite feline is back to cap off the week and you are sure to love this adorable set.

All You Knead Is Love by Jen Timko | Newton's Kitchen Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Zig Clean Color MarkersIf you are a cat person, you probably had a “kneader” in your house,  I certainly do.  Little Kate is a chirpy purr kneader.  So I just had to use this sentiment.  I decided to color this one up to look like the real Newton.  I do love an orange kitty and the pictures of Newton are always so sweet.  I colored him using Zig Clean Color Markers and added the little white hat (because it is just so cute!!).  I pulled out a pack of designer paper and found this orange print that seemed perfect to go behind our kitty friend.

All the images in this new set are great…especially if you love to cook as well!   So you know what time it is…hop around to the whole DT and make sure leave comments for your chance to win.

Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Peony Blooms

Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Peony Blooms published on 31 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Peony Blooms

Welcome to day 2 of the May Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Today we get to share another floral set and I’m thrilled to introduce Peony Blooms.  And do I ever love peonies!!

Hello by Jen Timko | Peony Blooms Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Framework Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Zig Clean Color MarkersI was totally inspired by my own peonies that are blooming right now.  These flowers are so special that I decided to keep the rest of the card pretty simple.  I stamped the image onto Bristol Smooth paper and colored using Zig Clean Color Markers.  A few shades of each color was all I needed.

Hello by Jen Timko | Peony Blooms Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Framework Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Zig Clean Color MarkersAfter coloring the flowers, I cut them out with the coordinating die.  Then I cut a frame from the Framework Dies (shown yesterday).  This scalloped frame is really wonderful, don’t you think?  I added a sentiment from the stamp set (LOVE this style of script) and then popped the frame and the flowers up on foam tape.  I added a few colored pearls that I thought were pretty with the image.  Mostly, I didn’t want to do anything to take away from the beautiful art of these flowers!!

Peonies May '18 | Jen TimkoAnd speaking of flowers, here are my gorgeous peonies from over the weekend.  Yep, the timing on this stamp set could not be better.  Now let’s go see what the rest of the team created!  Now on to everyone’s favorite part of release week.  A chance to win!!

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Umbrella Pals

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Umbrella Pals published on 30 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Umbrella Pals

Welcome to day 3 of the April Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  I hope you are having fun with the reveals so far.  Today, we have an absolutely darling set that is super clever and sure to bring a smile.  It is called Umbrella Pals.

Brighter Days by Jen Timko | Umbrella Pals Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsSo all the umbrellas in the stamp set are little critters and it is such fun to use!!  I thought these two bears worked great together!  I colored them with my Zig Clean Color markers and then created the background with the markers too.  To do that, I scribbled some of the ink on a clear blog and spritzed with a bit of water, the put the block on my paper.  I did this a few times to get the layered look on the background.

Brighter Days by Jen Timko | Umbrella Pals Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsI thought it would be fun to add a bit of sunshine under the umbrella with the yellow as a nod to the sentiment.  As an additional bit of brightness, I put the colored layer onto a yellow base so that the recipient gets that extra surprise of color when they open the card.  I thought a few clear drops would be appropriate for the gray section able the umbrellas.

I hope you enjoy today’s card and I know you will love the DT’s projects.  Now for your chance to win!!

Freshly Made Sketches #326

Freshly Made Sketches #326 published on 8 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #326

FMS326 by Jen Timko | Dahlia XL by Power Poppy, Zig Clean Color PensHappy middle of the week to you!  I am the sketch hostess today over at Freshly Made Sketches and I hope I created a sketch that will be fun for everyone.

With that big panel, I thought it was the perfect time to pull out a big stamp.  Dahlia XL from Power Poppy to be exact.  I stamped the flower in Versafine Black and colored with my Zig markers.  I don’t think I made an actual color combination for a dahlia, but hey…artistic interpretation!  *smile*  I just wanted to make a bright and happy card and I think this does the job.  The sentiment is from the set too and works perfectly for the little panel on the sketch.  For the yellow strip, I used some washi tape and put it on a piece of white paper.  You get all the effect of the washi but it looks a bit more tailored.

I hope you enjoy the sketch and will consider joining us!  The design team has done amazing things with my sketch…I’m always in awe of the different looks all from the same sketch.  I’ll be back on Friday with a fun post for Newton’s Nook.  Until then, have a great day!

Newton’s Nook Designs February Release – Woof Pack

Newton’s Nook Designs February Release – Woof Pack published on 27 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs February Release – Woof Pack

Well, it is the last day of the February Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  It has been a great week and I’m super excited to share our final set, Woof Pack.

You had to know that Newton’s Nook would not leave out all you dog people out there.  After yesterday’s Company of Cats it is so awesome to have a companion set for dogs.  I thought it would be fun to make a few little “windows” for the dogs.  I stamped the big background a couple of times and then chose a few of the sweet faces to highlight (other than the German Shepard, I chose pretty randomly….no slights intended, lol…I have a soft spot for Shepards after having one for 12 years).  I colored using my Zig Clean Color Markers and then added some frames that were cut with stitched circle dies.  The Pawprints stencil was a wonderful “go with” product for the dogs and I added that with embossing paste on Fog Gray card stock.

I thought you might like to see a list of all the breeds that are in the stamp image.  Jennifer Jackson was kind enough to provide this and it was super helpful in my coloring.

Left to Right:
Top row: Bulldog, Chihuahua, Boxer, Jack Russell Terrier
Second row: Poodle, Dachshund, Beagle, Basset Hound
Third row: Cocker Spaniel, Yorkshire Terrier, Boston Terrier
Corgi squeezed in between the rows
Bottom row: German Shepherd, Saint Bernard, Pug, Labrador Retriever

This week has been wonderful and I’m always so humbled by the kind comments left for me.  Thank you all for your encouragement and kindness.  And now, one more chance to win!
