Freshly Made Sketches #629

Freshly Made Sketches #629 published on 6 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #629

Happy Wednesday, friends! Happy to see you today. I’m so happy to share the latest from Freshly Made Sketches. Our lovely Amy O’Neill is the sketch designer and I love her simple take this week.

My beautiful cherry tree is blooming in my front yard (just like the famous ones at the Tidal Basin in DC) and that inspired my card. I pulled out the Lovely Layers: Dogwood dies (they are a little less fussy than my Cherry Blossom die) and started playing with ink. Using Bitty Blender Brushes, I added Distress Ink on all the layers and then built the stem. Something about this always makes me happy, especially when I’ve been away from the craft room too long (like lately).

I chose one of the woodgrain prints from the Grain and Grunge paper pack and added a white strip to match the sketch. The sentiment is from Spring Joy (retiring) and I love the pretty font. I added a bit of twine and some pearls to finish it off. So happy to be back to the craft room…and I think I actually have a few weeks where I can get inky!

I hope you will come over to see the beautiful work done by the team and can spend a little time joining us this week. Thanks so much for stopping by! See you soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #604

I love sketches with a clear focal point and that is just what we have for you this week! Our talented Cécile Ribon created a gorgeous challenge for Freshly Made Sketches!

The sketch has a big leaf and that put me right into fall creating mode! I pulled out my new Lovely Layers: Apple Barrel Dies and wow. Just wow. The details on these are incredible. I would love to say my shading was all my own idea but I watched the always amazing Dawn Woleslagle use these and I just went right ahead and mimicked her shading. I cut the pieces from Hammermill White Card Stock and then used Distress Inks for the shading. I cannot even tell you how much fun this was to do!! I didn’t have the same colors as Dawn so I just kind of winged it using some of the apples I got from a local orchard as my guide.

The key to the blending is all in those little blending brushes! The Bitty Bunny Blending Brushes are fabulous! You can color these little die cuts and add shading and nuance. So great! The background paper is from one of the “Free Bee” packs that come with orders from Honey Bee Stamps. The prints are always varied and so usable! Something about this one just made the apple barrel jump off the page. I heat embossed the sentiment onto brown card stock (another idea I stole from Dawn!). I added some leaves from the Lovely Layers: Autumn Bouquet set to try to comply with the sketch a little more.

I hope you like this one as much as I do. And please, do yourself a favor. Click Dawn’s name above and go watch her video. She is a genius! I hope you are having a wonderful week. See you again soon!

Picket Fence Studios August Release

Picket Fence Studios August Release published on 2 Comments on Picket Fence Studios August Release

Happy August release day from Picket Fence Studios! I’m so excited to share a couple of projects using two of the new sets. Also, this is my second post of the day. If you are looking for Week 2 of the Freshly Made Sketches #400 Celebration, just scroll down.

So in that “what did you do on your summer vacation” prompt for blogging, my family did a long weekend in New York City and I finally got to see Wicked. Yep, you can see where I’m going with this. Needless to say, the moment I saw the If You’ve Got It, Haunt It set, I knew I had to create Elphaba. Isn’t she glorious with her green complexion?!

I used my Zig Clean Color Markers to color her on Bristol Smooth Paper and then cut her out using circle die. I found this awesome ombré paper that matched perfectly too. Now this sentiment made me jump for joy! It comes from the Wicked Together stamp set and it was PERFECT! A few green sequins as a finishing touch.

Next up is another adorable Halloween set called Trick or Treaters. This little group of ghouls could not be even a little cuter! And the perfect size for quick coloring. I colored them up using Copic Markers and thought it would be fun to make a wobbler card. Yep, that little spider is on an Action Wobbler and it just makes me chuckle. I’ll have a short video over at Instagram if you care to see it in action. My background was created with Distress Ink in Wilted Violet and I used Tonic Glimmer Paste to add extra dimension with the Random Dots Stencil. The sentiment from the new Witch, Please cracked me up with the spider.

I hope you enjoy these cards and the whole release! Hop on over to Picket Fence Studios to see all the offerings! Thanks so much for stopping in today. And happy shopping…because you are going to want it all!

The week is flying by and today is the last day of release week for  Newton’s Nook Designs.  Your favorite kitty is back again today and this time Newton gets a scooter!

Wheelie Great by Jen Timko | Newton Scoots By Stamps and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Sky Borders Dies (Newton's Nook Designs), Zig Clean Color Markers, Watercolor CardThis little kitty called out to be a girl to me so I gave her a hot pink scooter and some great coordinating accessories.  Don’t you love her scarf?  The sentiments that go with this image are just fantastic for many different occasions.  Love that!

I colored our little friend using Zig Clean Color Markers and created a background with Distress Ink.  I pulled some of the colors from the image and found coordinating paper from my stash that matched perfectly.  YAY!  The scallop border is created with the Sky Borders Dies and it is just the right layer for adding my sentiment.  The clouds in the set would have been fun on the background circle but somehow one ending up as the “exhaust” instead.  Oh so cute!  You can get you chance to win this free but make sure you work fast!

Would you like to win the “Newton Scoots By” Stamp Set?

Freshly Made Sketches #278

FMS278 by Jen Timko | Marvelous Mehndi by Uniko, Hello Lovely by Concord & 9th, Distress Ink, SpongingToday is Freshly Made Sketches day!!  Always the most inspirational day of the week!  My friend, the amazing Jen Mitchell is our sketch designer this week and I love this one.  A lot!

I have had this gorgeous image from Uniko for a while but I needed just the right inspiration for it.  I thought this sketch was exactly right to show it off.  I heat embossed it (Versamark and White embossing powder) first and then sponged it using Distress Ink in Picked Raspberry, Ripe Persimmon and Mustard Seed.  I cut the panel using Stitched Rectangle by Simon Says Stamp.  Next I created another panel with sponging for the layer behind.  And finally, I added this sentiment from Concord & 9th and sponged again.  The gorgeous details of the image get to be the star of the show with the sponging!  And this came together pretty quickly…which is amazing since it looks artsy and hard.  Nope!  Totally easy and fun!

So I know you’ll love this sketch too and I am completely sure that the team will inspire you with their stunning work.
