I continued to be inspired by the thought of fall. Not actual fall since that seems to be eluding us in Virginia. But I’m going to keep making cards with leaves to see what I can do. I pulled out these wonderful Autumn Leaves Dies by Newton’s Nook Designs and used a sentiment from the Cottage Garden Stamp Set. I popped them onto some stitched squared with the entire base of Neenah Desert Storm.
Come on over and join us for this fun sketch! And make sure you go see all the inspiration from the design team too. Always a joy to see the takes on the sketch and this week is no exception. Thanks for stopping in today. See you soon!
I have an extra card to share with you today in support of Layton’s Legacy. I’m sure many of you saw the amazing work being done to launch this card drive and fundraiser yesterday and I’m up on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog today with my card made for the card drive.
This drive is the dream of Lea Lawson as a way to honor her sweet little boy Layton. Please read the story about this tiny warrior and his amazing parents. While he was in the NICU getting some of the world’s finest care, Lea and her husband found themselves in emotional anguish and exhausted. At one point, someone gave them a Starbucks gift card so they could walk across the street from the hospital for a small break. Lea speaks of that moment bringing tears to her since for a small moment it felt like someone was taking care of her and her husband.
This story is heartbreaking and yet heartwarming at the same time. Because to honor Layton’s second birthday, she is choosing to bring good to other parents at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. She is doing a card drive and a fundraiser to buy more Starbucks cards so that other families in the same situation can feel like people are looking out for them and remembering them. You can find out how to donate HERE and know that your donation may even make you the winner of some amazing prizes. Yes, in all of this, she has sponsors that are sharing generously to help encourage generous giving. This crafting community is truly a blessing!!One of the sponsors is Newton’s Nook Designs. I created my card for today using the mood board for the Layton’s Legacy Hop and will be sending it to Lea as a way to deliver one of her gift cards. I ask that you consider doing the same. Think about how special a handmade card would be for any of these families and we have the power to bring a smile and love to someone who could really use it.I love the color choices Lea gave us and the wonderful pictures provide so much inspiration. Using the little animals, I immediately thought of Cottage Garden and stamped the owl in a pretty teal color. Then I chose to add some yellow flowers for a pop of color. The rest of the card is based on the chevron curtains and the gray room palette.
I hope you will join Lea and help her pay it forward with her event. If you do make a card, make sure to link it up HERE.

The art in this beautiful stamp set is unique and really pretty but I also fell in love with the sentiments. I created this card to show one of them off and to also highlight that the dies are able to multitask. On a piece of watercolor paper (Tim Holtz Distress), I sponged on some different Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Picked Raspberry, Mowed Lawn, Blueprint Sketch and Squeezed Lemonade then splattered on a bit of water. Using the dies, I cut out the flowers big and small. Additionally I created a frame with the ovals from my Stitched Shapes dies. I stamped the sentiment in Picked Raspberry onto a white base (using the Misti helps since I needed to stamp a few times given the nature of Distress Ink). All I had to do was group my flowers and add some Basic Pearls.
I love when die sets lend themselves to quick cards and I think these flowers are ones I’ll return to again and again (and of course, all the other adorable shapes in the set!). Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches. Thanks so much for stopping in. See you soon!
Today is a double post day and this is for day 3 of the March release from Newton’s Nook Designs. Today we are sharing a set called Cottage Garden and its coordinating dies. So many beautiful images! If you are looking for my FMS card today just give a quick scroll.
The Scandinavian feel of this art work was my inspiration for my card today. Something about the blue and white simply felt like the best way to show off the lovely details. I stamped the image in Night of Navy ink and then cut out the image with the coordinating dies. These dies are a must have because being able to pop these images up really makes the card a wow! I used one of the sentiments from the set too and stamped onto a white panel. I cut the scallops using the Sky Borders Die from this new release and then cut the whole layer using a stitched rectangle. I really liked the dots of this DSP bring with that mimic the dots in the stamp. I thought about adding pearls and other embellishments, but in the end I felt like this was the perfect showcase for the set and left it clean. You know what comes next, right?
