Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Lovely Blooms

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Lovely Blooms published on 28 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Lovely Blooms

Welcome back for another day of release week for the April release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Day 2 has a beautiful flower set called Lovely Blooms.

Blooms for Mom by Jen Timko | Lovely Blooms Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Mason Jar, #newtonsnookI hardly knew where to start with this set.  If you follow me, you know I love myself a flower.  And this set is full of pretty images to mix and match.  I finally settled on creating a watercolor styled card but kept it simple.  I sponged Distress Ink onto watercolor paper creating some ombré effects and then stamped over the sponging with the images.  The coordinating Lovely Blooms Dies made short work of cutting things out so that I could create this pretty little arrangement.  The script sentiments are really great so I chose to create this one for mom.  Um….sorry mom, should have given a spoiler alert.  I added a few sequins for a finishing touch and I just love the effect you get on this with no actual coloring required.

Of course, if you love to color, this set is totally for you too!  I’ll show you what I mean tomorrow!  Until then, you have a chance to win this set with just some simple commenting.

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Beautiful Plumage

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Beautiful Plumage published on 30 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Beautiful Plumage

Happy Monday to you!  Today is the start of release week for the April release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  This release is so perfect for spring and you are going to love it!

Beautiful Peacock by Jen Timko | Beautiful Plumage Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic Coloring on VellumThis new set is a really lovely start to the April offerings, don’t you think?  The swirl images are always so pretty and the peacocks are fabulous!  The sentiments that go with this set are also ones you are sure to love.

I decided to emboss the image with gold onto vellum and I love the effect.  Using Copic markers, I colored on the back of the stamped image to create the color variances in his feathers.  This technique is very forgiving and fun to do.  Here is a closeup so you can see him a little better.Beautiful Plumage closeup by Jen Timko | Newton's Nook DesignsI added another vellum panel over the card base.  Using the coordinating die cuts for the set, the peacock is super easy to cut out.  To help him stand out more, he is up on a stitched circle and I added some gold thread behind him.  I know you will love all that the design team has to show you and here is your chance to get the set for free!

Freshly Made Sketches #282

FMS282 by Jen Timko | Mondo Hydrangea and Lovely Stamp Sets by Ellen Hutson, Zig Clean Color, WatercolorQuick post today.  Sorry if you stopped in earlier and got a white screen or other messages.  Apparently a plugin update cause the whole site to have a fatal error.  Good times!  Now to happy things!

We have the most wonderful sketch this week at Freshly Made Sketches from the lovely Cécile.  I just love the idea of the layered squares!  It didn’t take me long to decide on the smallest squares from the Stitched Shapes Thinlits but then what to add?  I was looking through my stamp sets and the most counterintuitive set jumped out at me.  Mondo Hydrangea by Ellen Hutson!  So yes, the mondo flower was not the right fit for the squares but the little blossoms were perfectly sized!  I stamped them in Versafine ink onto Fabriano watercolor paper and colored with my Zigs.  Simple coloring but oh so pretty!  I added on a little sentiment from another Ellen Hutson set called Lovely.  Am I allowed to say how happy I am with this card?  I was fighting with my mojo a bit this week and having this card come together quickly saved a bit of my sanity.

Ok…off to visit the amazing team.  Make sure you stop in to let us know what you think of the sketch and I hope you’ll join in with us.  I’ll be back at the beginning of next week with the April release week from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Until then, I hope you have a great week!  See you soon.

Newton’s Nook Designs – Cottage Flowers

Newton’s Nook Designs – Cottage Flowers published on 2 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs – Cottage Flowers

Hello Friend by Jen Timko | Cottage Garden Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Distress Ink, Watercolor I’m up today over at the Newton’s Nook Designs blog today and I want to share all the details with you here.  My project focuses on the Cottage Garden Stamp Set and coordinating dies.

The art in this beautiful stamp set is unique and really pretty but I also fell in love with the sentiments.  I created this card to show one of them off and to also highlight that the dies are able to multitask.  On a piece of watercolor paper (Tim Holtz Distress), I sponged on some different Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Picked Raspberry, Mowed Lawn, Blueprint Sketch and Squeezed Lemonade then splattered on a bit of water.  Using the dies, I cut out the flowers big and small.  Additionally I created a frame with the ovals from my Stitched Shapes dies.  I stamped the sentiment in Picked Raspberry onto a white base (using the Misti helps since I needed to stamp a few times given the nature of Distress Ink).  All I had to do was group my flowers and add some Basic Pearls.

I love when die sets lend themselves to quick cards and I think these flowers are ones I’ll return to again and again (and of course, all the other adorable shapes in the set!).  Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  Thanks so much for stopping in.  See you soon!

Supplies:

Stamps:  Cottage Garden (Newton’s Nook); Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Inks (Picked Raspberry, Mowed Lawn, Blueprint Sketch, Squeezed Lemonade); Paper: Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor, Thick Whisper White (SU); Accessories:  Misti, Big Shot, Cottage Garden Dies, Stitched Shaped Thinlits (SU), Basic Pearls (SU), Dimensionals

Fancy Friday – Step Up Sketch Challenge

Fancy Friday – Step Up Sketch Challenge published on 5 Comments on Fancy Friday – Step Up Sketch Challenge

Welcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop!  Our team is a group of stampers who love to make beautiful things.  Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy!  If you hopped over from the amazing Erica Cerwin, welcome to the next stop.  For March, we have double the fun!  Not only do we have a sketch but we have a step it up challenge.  Making a basic card and a stepped up version!  It is going to be a fun hop!

Fancy Friday March by Jen Timko | Flourishing Phrases Stamp Set and Flourish Thinlits by Stampin' UpSo here are my cards together but I also took photos of them separately so you can see the details better.  Both versions are still “clean” but the stepped up version has a bit more wow to it.

FF Mar Flourish Basic by Jen Timko | Flourishing Phrases and Flourish Thinlits by Stampin' UpFor my first card I used the sketch as my guide.  I love the new Stitched Shapes Thinlits and they worked perfectly here.  I stamped the leaves from the stamp set in Night of Navy then cut a flower with the coordinating thinlits to go with them.  The sentiment is from the same stamp set.  When you have a card that is super clean, every detail matters.  Bold contrast (like the navy and white) really catches the eye and the bit of stitching helps the card feel finished.  The Basic Pearl in the flower’s center adds a special touch.

FF Mar Flourish Stepped Up by Jen Timko | Flourishing Phrases and Flourish Thinlits by Stampin' Up, Floral Boutique DSP, Stitched Shapes, VellumFor my stepped up version, I added a few more elements.  First I cut a frame with my stitched squares and then also cut a square from both White Vellum Card Stock and Floral Boutique DSP (the polka dots).  I layered them up and attached them together.  The vellum helps the DSP not take over the card and you can still see the flower.  This time, I cut both the flower and the leaves from with the Flourish Thinlits and then added them to the square.  The sentiment remains the same as above, as does the pearl.  But I decided it needed more accessorizing so I added some Night of Navy Solid Baker’s Twine.  For both cards, I used my Envelope Punch Board to round the corners (those little punches are so handy on that board!).

I hope you like both of my cards and the sketch.  I think the team is going to impress you with their creativity!  And let’s face it, these ladies are all about stepping it up!

Now for the rest of the hop!  I’m telling you….this team is the most talented group.  You will be so inspired as you go along.  Next up is my amazing friend Cindy Schuster.  She is one of my favorite stampers and one of the nicest people you could ever meet!

Freshly Made Sketches #281

Freshly Made Sketches #281 published on 10 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #281

FMS281 by Jen Timko | Work of Art Stamp Set by Stampin' Up, Stitched ShapesAnother super fun sketch is up this week at Freshly Made Sketches.  This week, the super talented Kim Singdahlsen is our hostess and her sketch is really unique.  It is always fun to see what the team comes up with and this one really got me to thinking.

I love when a sketch inspires me to go look hard at my stamps to see what jump out and this Stampin’ Up set called Work of Art practically leapt off the shelf.  The watercolor styled swoosh is tailor made for the sketch.  All I had to do was choose the ink colors.  I went for this happy spring trio of Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight and Melon Mambo because they seem to be my go-to palette these days.  Seasonal stamper’s disorder….choosing the colors of the season….although it seems that I have been stamping in spring for the entire winter too, haha! This sentiment is in my personal sentiment hall of fame (I may be guilty of sentiment hoarding collecting).  The perfect message and one that many need to hear.  I stamped it in Versafine Onyx Black and then cut it out using the Stitched Shapes circle from SU.  The whole panel was cut using Stitched Rectangles from Simon Says Stamp and put on a base of Thick Whisper White.  I added some enamel dots because they, too, were calling out to join the fun.

I hope that you have a good time with this sketch.  I anticipate a gallery full of creative work.  The Design Team will start you off right so make sure you go take a look at their amazing cards.  I’ll be back on Friday with this month’s Fancy Friday hop.  Hint…their just may be a sketch!!  Yippee!

Spring Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

Spring Coffee Lovers Blog Hop published on 13 Comments on Spring Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

The Spring Coffee Lovers Bloghop is well underway and what fun it is!  I was happy to get a little time to join in this time because I’m always so inspired by the lovely work in the hop.  It was also a good time to make sure I’m still coloring for The 30 Day Coloring Challenge this month.

Spring Hello by Jen Timko | Spring CLBH Digital Stamp by JessicaLynn Original, Copic Coloring I was thrilled to see this free download set from JessicaLynn Original that was created just for the blog hop.  I don’t use digital stamps very often but this one was so pretty I just had to!  The nice part is that you can size the image to your taste.  I printed it onto X-Press It Blending Card so I could color it with my Copics.  I took a Copic Coloring Class about a week ago (Copic Flowers with Lori Craig) and tried to apply some of what I learned with her.  This image was super fun to use!

Just a quick post today.  Back in the craft room working on some projects for later this week.  I hope you have an amazing day.  Don’t forget to go over to the blog hop to see all the talented stampers who have joined in!  See you soon!

Lesley’s Baby Girl Celebration Blog Hop

Lesley’s Baby Girl Celebration Blog Hop published on 10 Comments on Lesley’s Baby Girl Celebration Blog Hop

If you have been around stamping for a while, you are sure to know the lovely Lesley Croghan.  She is personally responsible for some of the most successful and fun challenges!  But beyond that, she has encouraged stampers to join her design teams and to play along with all kinds of inspiring ideas, making our stamping world a happier place.  I know that I personally can never truly pay Lesley back for the joy, friends and confidence I have due to one little contact.  The day she asked me to join the Freshly Made Sketches Design Team is one that I can mark as one of those days that changes your life in a meaningful way.  At the time, I squealed and jumped around like a fool because I was so excited to be asked to join such an amazing group of stampers.  Little did I know that I would also make some of the most incredible friends and find a support network that makes me a better person….and enables more that I can even admit to!!  *smile*

So Lesley, thank you!  For you and Corey, I am so very happy for this new little girl to arrive and she will have more stamping “aunties” than she can even imagine!Hello Baby Croghan by Jen Timko | Moon Baby Stamp Set by Stampin' Up, Zig Clean Color Pens, Watercolor

I created this card using the Moon Baby stamp set from Stampin’ Up.  I think these little images are too cute and they seemed perfect for Lesley’s little girl.  The nursery colors are Cameo Coral, Coastal Cabana, Smoky Slate, Basic Gray and White.  I took a little bit of liberty and added some pale yellow to help the colors pop but tried hard to stick to this fabulous combination.  I colored the images with my Zig Clean Color Markers and used some Distress Ink in the background.  After coloring, I cut out the image panel with Stitched Shapes Framelits and layered another stitched oval cut from Thick Whisper White.  I added some retired coral ribbon (SU SAB) and put the whole thing on some Lemon Card Stock (SSS).

Now you need to check out all the marvelously talented stampers who feel just the same way I do about Lesley.  We have a whole hop going on and you can find the link to all of us here:  It’s A Girl Blog Hop for Li’l Miss Croghan

Many of us sent our cards to the hop coordinator, Lori Turner, who bundled everything up and sent it to Lesley and Corey.  They get to open it this morning (Saturday) and I hope it brings much joy and happiness!!  Thanks for hopping through today.  I hope you enjoy sharing in the love and appreciation we have for Lesley!  Have a great weekend.

Freshly Made Sketches #280

FMS280 by Jen Timko | Botanical Garden Stamp Set by Altenew, Healing Wings by Skipping Stones DesignEver see a sketch and know that whatever you make with it will be awesome?  That is how I felt the minute I saw this one from Freshly Made Sketches.  The incredible Linda Callahan created this beauty and the possibilities are endless!

I thought these gorgeous images from the Botanical Garden would be great for the sketch.  I stamped them onto Canson Watercolor Paper using Versafine Ink.  Then I colored using Winsor and Newton Watercolor Paints.  I just got these and was swatching them when I thought I should just break them in and see what happened.  I kind of love the possibilities!!  Once I was done coloring the images, I cut them out to see how they looked for the sketch.  I felt like they needed a little bit of a background so I added a little more color behind them before stamping the sentiment.  I love this one!!  And it is perfect for my friend that will receive this card.

Our design team has done their always excellent job this week and you will be so inspired.  I hope you will have as much fun with this sketch as I did.  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  See you soon!

Inky Paws #43

Inky Paws #43 by Jen Timko | Winston Takes Flight Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Land Borders Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsHappy Monday to you all!  I hope you had a fun weekend and are ready for a great week.  I’m starting off the week with the latest Inky Paws Challenge and it is a great sketch.  I could not resist pulling out my Winston Takes Flight stamp and dies again and coloring them with Copics Markers.  This fellow really makes me happy!

I stamped the plane and banner onto Thick Whisper White card stock and got to coloring.  I thought that our little bear friend would enjoy a red airplane this time.  The little banner in this set is super fun and I did not use it last week during reveal week so I showed it here.  Love how the sentiments fit right onto the banner!  I created a “sky” with some retired DSP and used the Land Borders Dies for the curved edge.  I did flip the sketch to landscape but otherwise tried to stay true to it.  What a fun one!  I hope you will join the challenge and I cannot wait to see how you interpret it.

I went to a Copic coloring class on Friday with the amazing Lori Craig (Copic Flowers) and I just have to say that if you ever have the chance to take one of these, GO!!  It was so fun and I learned so much!  The rest of my weekend was spent being a soccer mom with the beginning of season tournaments for my boys.  Lots of amazing soccer was played and I’m super proud of my lads.  Back to the stamp room this week for more coloring and more fun!  Hope you have some time to get inky too!  See you soon!
