Today is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog. I had not pulled out these fun little cacti to color in a while and I thought they might be perfect for a post today. So Cuppa Cactus it is!
I colored the image using Copics and tried to use colors that had a bit of a southwest feel to them. I decided that the “sticking by me” sentiment was perfect (from the Cultivated Cacti set). I took a piece of the Wood Textures DSP (SU) and added some splatters of white craft ink then used a doily to ground the cactus. I found this ribbon in my stash that matched the blue perfectly that I thought was a fun extra detail. Finally, I added this sentiment and heat embossed it with white embossing powder.
I hope you like this fun card today. Thanks so much for stopping in and I’ll see you soon!

Newton’s Nook Designs 4th Annual Sweet Treats Blog Hop!
The Newton’s Nook Designs Team is hopping along today to share some great Sweet Treats – just in time for Valentine’s Day! Make sure you scroll down to the bottom of this post to see the whole list and hop along and comment for a chance to win!
I am thrilled to be a part of this Sweet Treats Blog Hop today courtesy of Newton’s Nook Designs! I love little treat ideas (and always seem to need one at the last minute!) so this is perfectly timed.
I have created little peat pot containers before but something about using them for Valentine’s Day seemed perfect for me this year. They are super economical so I just get a package and have them on hand. I used some floral wire to create a handle but you could totally go without one too.
To create this cute little tag, I stamped the heart woodgrain heart from the Woodland Duos Stamp Set with Berry Burst ink (SU) and then cut it out with the coordinating Darling Hearts Dies. The “love” comes from the same die set and is so pretty in this berry pink. To keep it from being too “girly”, I used corrugated kraft paper for the tag. I like how it works with the peat pot too. I tied the tag onto the handle with some Berry Burst ribbon. The joy of this….easy to do in an assembly line for a class or for friends and family!
To fill, all I did was find some candy in a coordinating colors (yeah, I know, shopping with a paper swatch…I’m sure people thought I was a little off). These happen to be chocolate and peanut butter. I barely kept enough for my pictures before my boys were devouring them!! I added some of the berry shredded paper as a final touch.

Happy middle of the week to you! I have a real treat of a sketch to share with you today from Freshly Made Sketches. The lovely Cécile is our hostess this week. Elle est merveilleuse et si créative. Her basic sketch leaves so much room for interpretation…you are sure to love it too!
I thought it would be fun to create a “spotlight” style card. I chose this beautiful flower image from Gina K Designs. Using my handy dandy Misti, it is super easy to line up the image on the watercolor panel and the vellum. I stacked the two layers where I wanted them, place the magnet, and stamped (using Versafine Onyx Black). Then I pulled up the watercolor paper and stamped again on the vellum layer. I heat embossed on the vellum using clear embossing powder. So fast, and no stress on how to get the layers aligned. I colored the flower using my “Debby’s Palette” of Daniel Smith Watercolors. I attached the watercolor layer to the vellum (I recommend a liquid glue like Multi Medium Matte or a strong tape runner like SU’s Fast Fuse). The sentiment comes from the same Gina K set. So awesome how the word image is cut with a little border using the dies. The entire image layer was popped up using double sided adhesive foam from Newton’s Nook. This foam is just the BEST!!
I hope that you enjoy this card and will join us this week at FMS. We love seeing what you create! Make sure you go check out the work from the design team. You know it is fabulous!! Back tomorrow with a fun hop. Until then, have a great day!
Happy Wednesday to you! I get to share the latest Freshly Made Sketches challenge with you and I’m in love with this one. The amazing Jen Brum is our sketch hostess and she has a really fresh and creative challenge for us this week. And shockingly, I mostly just stuck to the simple directions, haha!
Back in December I was lucky enough to be one of the winners of a prize from the Coffee Lovers Blog Hop. I won a gift card from Gina K. Designs!! I resisted using it right away (wow, was that hard!!) but held onto it to find just the right thing. And the right thing I found! I just ordered the Hearts and Flowers StampTV Kit and it arrived last week. Needless to say, it called out to be used on this sketch!
I stamped the flower insides first in Versafine Onyx Black ink and then positioned the flowers to layer on top. After inking with Gina K’s Dye Inks, I spritzed before I stamped to create an easy watercolor feel. I let the flowers dry and the hand painted the banner using the Blue Lagoon Ink by Gina K. After the banner was dry, I added a sentiment from the stamp sets. To add a little more texture, I splattered on some black ink and added some black rhinestones. The watercolor panel is cut using a stitched rectangle. I cut yellow base to match the card size. No border on the front but a pop of color when you open the card. Somehow this is really appealing to me lately…a way to have the clean front but still have an extra surprise.
Well, off to see all the marvelous creations from the team!! This is a sketch that can be perfect with whatever little shapes you want to use. Hope you have fun with it and looking forward to seeing you in the gallery!! Thanks for stopping in!
Welcome back for our last day of the January Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. I know you have been waiting to see him and here he is! Newton! And his sweetheart!! Did you know he had one??
This Newton’s Sweetheart stamp set could not be cuter! I love the sweet images and the wonderful sentiment choices too. When I asked if the sweetheart had a name, I was told no so I am officially petitioning to name her Kate. I might be biased. But let’s face it, orange tabby kitties are so cute when paired with little calico girls, aren’t they?? From the mom point of view, I love the idea of Kate finding a nice fellow from a good family who has a solid “in” with a company. When the company is named after him, all the better!! The long distance relationship might become an issue but we’ll get to that problem later, haha!!
After I colored this cute pair using my Zig Clean Color Markers, I thought they might look great with some woodgrain and kraft texture behind them. I used two of the prints from the Wood Textures paper pack and then added a heart cut from Corrugate Kraft cut with the Darling Hearts die. I love this sentiment for Valentine’s but also for anniversaries! So another amazing release is revealed and the shopping starts tomorrow. But one more time, a chance to win!!

Welcome back for day 3 of the January Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. It is also Freshly Made Sketches day so I created a card featuring the sketch with today’s stamp set, Deer Friend.
These little deer images are darling and I love the coordinating sentiments, don’t you?! I colored my deer with Copic markers and then went a little crazy coloring leaves and flowers to go with it. I loved the layered shape option in the sketch so I chose stitched circles…one in white and one with vellum. To add a little more detail but still keep focus on the images, I embossed my white base with a woodgrain texture. I consider this time of year thank you note season so this sentiment was a natural.
On a Freshly Made Sketches note, I want to make sure you saw that the incredible Teresa Kline is joining us as a guest designer so make sure you stop in to welcome her. The whole team has done beautiful work with the lovely Kim Singdahlsen‘s sketch.
Now back to this Newton’s day… I hope you are enjoying this week of reveals as much as I am. Tomorrow is our last day and you know who will be coming!! Until then, here is your chance to win!!

Welcome back for day 2 of the January Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. You are going to fall head over heels with today’s set called Sending Hugs. All of the options are perfect for pretty much anyone you could want to create a card for and wait until you see how the dies work.
I chose this cute owl and decided to color him in bright, happy and decidedly “not real owl” colors. I used my Chameleon Pens and Color Tops to create this fun shading. After much debate, I thought this envelope worked well for my sentiment choice. And now, you really need to take note…just look at how the owl is holding the letter. Yep, the dies do that! They cut the “hands” (feathers, paws) out so your little animal can hold the treat! Oh…brilliant!!! Just admit it, you want me to go stamp and cut more out right now, don’t you?? Thank goodness the team has done that and can show you more options!! As a way to accent my owl, I used the Tumbling Hearts stencil and some new Shimmery White Embossing Paste. The sparkle is awesome!
I tried to capture some of the glittery look here but there is so much more wow in person. To match, I added a little strip of shimmer washi tape down the side too. I hope you enjoy this card and now time to get to everyone’s favorite part of release week. A chance to win!!

Welcome to day 1 of the January Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. Love is definitely in the air and you are going to enjoy this week’s fun and whimsical offerings! We are starting off today with a new stamp set called Love Bites and a stencil called Tumbling Hearts.
This adorable set features some creative pairings that you are sure to love! I’ll admit that the “totally my jam” sentiment called out to be used first. My youngest will often say that the radio is playing his jam when a favorite song comes on so this will be a perfect card for him. I stamped the images onto Bristol Smooth paper and colored using Tim Holtz Distress Inks. I thought this print (retired paper) was the perfect complement to the toast and allowed the jam to pop. When a set is this cute, I think that is all you need to created a fun clean and special (CAS) card. I can’t wait to play with the other images in this set…good for Valentine’s but also for all year long.
The new stencil is another must have for your repertoire. I will be showing it off later in the week but I’m sure the team has some examples to show you today. You can see it and all the images in the stamp set in the graphic below. Now on to everyone’s favorite part of release week. A chance to win!!

Today is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog. With all the cold we have been having, something about flowers is calling my name. So Lovely Blooms was a fun choice that I hadn’t used in a while.
I recently got some Brusho Crystal Colours and this was a great time to give them a go. I played with all the colors in my 5 color pack (available from Stampin’ Up). On Arches Cold Press Watercolor Paper, I stamped the jar with Versafine Onyx Black Ink. I filled the jar with water using my paint brush and then sprinkled on the Prussian Blue Brusho. It is super cool to watch the color spread and move. I did the same with the flower and the leaves. The flower uses Gamboge, Brilliant Red and Yellow and the leaves use Moss Green and Yellow. Just put on the water and sprinkle…it is that easy. I had my 11 yo help on the leaves because he thought it was so interesting. Once everything was dry, I cut the flowers and the leaves with the coordinating dies. For the background wash, I sprinkled a little bit of powder into a palette and added water to create the paler version of the colors. I love that you can use this in multiple ways too. I pulled a sentiment from Simply Relative…such a must have set! You can’t see it from this picture but I actually attached the watercolor panel to a pale yellow card base for a sweet surprise when you open the card.
I hope you enjoy this floral burst of color today! Make sure to stop by the Newton’s Nook Designs blog for daily inspiration. Thanks so much for stopping in and I’ll see you soon!
Happy New Year!!! I hope you had a safe and joyful holiday season! So excited to be back today after the hiatus. We have the perfect sketch at Freshly Made Sketches courtesy of the amazing Rita Wright and it will get you back to stamping in no time!! This big panel provides infinite opportunities!
I had an unused stamp set from the fall that called out to be colored and I’m so happy I worked with it. On Fabriano Extra White Watercolor Paper, I stamped with Versafine Ink with this flower from Bouquet of Thanks from Simon Says Stamp. Along with the stamp I had gotten the Debby’s Palette of Daniel Smith Watercolors so naturally I looked to Debby Hughes for inspiration on the coloring itself. I found this card and was inspired! I blended the colors of the palette with a loose coloring and had such fun playing with how they mixed. A good way to start getting back in the groove! The sentiment is from the same set and I used a panel of green behind the watercolor layer and then used a base of Fog cardstock.
I hope you’ll be able to join us this week! We look forward to sharing in your crafty goals of the new year! Back tomorrow with some more coloring with a new to me product. Until then, thanks for stopping in!
