So is it acting like spring where you are? Well, it certainly has been in Virginia and that inspired my card for today. I’m the sketch hostess over at Freshly Made Sketches this week and I hope you will love the sketch I created for you. It is also the beginning of Kathy Racoosin‘s 30 Day Coloring Challenge (The Daily Marker 30 Day) which is a month of amazing inspiration that fills IG feeds with lovely art. It reminds us, as crafters, to take a little time every day just to make a little something that is pretty.

I kept my coloring pretty simple for today and used this gorgeous flower from Mama Elephant. Inspired by some of the cherry blossoms that are sure to be popping out any time here in my yard, I chose a soft pink for the flowers. The sentiment comes from the set too and I think it is a favorite of mine. The image and sentiments were stamped in Versafine Onyx Black and the flower was coloring using Tim Holtz Distess Inks.

I hope you will join us with this sketch. I tried to make one that is open to techniques, large images or even pretty DSP. My favorite stamping day of the week is here! Happy Wednesday to you! I’m so excited to share this week’s sketch by coloring genius Karren Johnson. Her split panel concept is so fun and can lead to so many great ideas!

So I’m hoping that I didn’t stretch too far from the sketch but I really tried to make my watercolor ombré layer into three distinctive sections. I used the beautiful Tim Holtz Hickory Smoke Distress Ink to create the colors. I started with a light wash and then went back and layered on more ink. The heart is really one of the leaves from the Layering Leaves Die Set (Concord & 9th) and I just snipped the stem off to turn it into a heart. I colored a scrap of watercolor paper with my Wine Red Zig pen and washed it out a bit with water. Then I die cut with the leaf. So pretty! Finally, after some debate, I chose a sentiment. You see…I need a birthday card for my dear husband and I think this might hit the right masculine note (well, at least it isn’t a flower, haha!). I love that the Moon Rock ink from Altenew is a nice match to the distress ink on the panel with crisper stamping. The sentiment itself is from the January Paper Pumpkin kit. While the kit is an adorable Valentine’s 3-d set, the sentiments are going to be in your go-to list for a while. I love this font and this says it all!

After the whirlwind of posting last week, I have been taking advantage of this week’s quiet to take care of non-stamping things. But I finally got back into the stamp room yesterday and took a good look at the amazing Cécile‘s fun sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches this week. The first think that popped into my head was butterflies (not sure why since they are clearly circles….but she did say any shape!). Sometimes it is best just to go with it to see what happens!

I colored some Ranger Watercolor Paper (it is white) using Tim Holtz Distress Inks with the pretty aquas and pinks and set it aside to dry. While I was waiting, I used the Bold Butterflies and Butterflies Dies (they coordinate) from SU to cut the intricate butterflies from White Vellum Card Stock. Then I cut the colored paper with the outline dies of the same sets. I pulled the stamp set from the same family, Watercolor Wings, and used the dotted border and sentiment stamped in Smoky Slate. To help match the circle elements from the sketch, I added a white doily and some Silver Metallic Thread behind the butterflies. I used the Fine Tip Glue Pen to attach the vellum to the colored butterflies and was amazed to see that you cannot see the adhesive. (I had planned to use pearls to conceal it but went with a cleaner look when I realized I could.)

All in all, this is such a fun and easy card to make. You could use DSP or watercolor different colors or even add glimmer paper to alter the feel of the card and make a pretty set.

The Card Concept #61

We have a beautiful inspiration piece over at The Card Concept this week and it was hard for me to narrow down which elements I wanted to use. No surprise, the team has created some really pretty projects and you are going to have fun with this one!

I chose to use one of my favorite flowers from the Altenew Beautiful Day stamp set. I stamped on Canson Watercolor paper using WPlus9 Black Dye Ink and then colored using Tim Holtz Distress ink in Spun Sugar and Picked Raspberry. The pretty mint typewrite inspired the Mint Macaron card base. I cut image layer using Stitched Rectangled from Simon Says Stamp. The sentiment was stamped in Versafine Onyx Black and comes from the Lovely set by Ellen Hutson (Essentials by Ellen). Finally the little details. I added some lace trim and gold thread (hard to see in the picture) to keep with the sketch from this week’s CAS(E) this Sketch. I also colored this for Kathy Racoosin’s Thirty Day Coloring Challenge….a great way to motivate yourself to color just a little every day!

Fancy Friday – Holiday Celebration

Welcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop! Our team is a group of stampers who love to make beautiful things. Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy! If you hopped over from the incredible Erica, welcome to the next stop. For September, our theme is Anything Holiday! If it is a holiday item from the main catalog or the Holiday catalog, we are celebrating it!

I decided to stick with a set that has actually been around for a while but should not be forgotten. The Wondrous Wreath stamp set is one I loved from the minute I saw it. I decided to show its versatility a bit and create a card with only the wreath and the sentiment from the set. I started with a product I just discovered but already love. They are Strathmore Watercolor Cards and they really are fabulous. Very much like the Stampin’ Up Note Cards except made with watercolor paper. Makes it easy to create a one layer watercolor card and conquer that hoarding tendency that tends to show up around watercolor paper (please tell me I’m not the only one). I stamped the wreath with Tim Holtz Distress ink in Twisted Citron and then colored in with my Aquapainter with some more Distress Ink in Mowed Lawn. Using the same inks, I connected the leaves with hand drawn stems which makes the wreath have a subtly different look. To keep with that watercolor feel, I did not stamp the berries from the set (but you totally could). Instead I hand drew them in with a Zig Clean Color Pen. Once I had this like I wanted all that was left was the sentiment. And then I had to take a deep breath because I didn’t want to mess it up. So out came my Misti!! I got the sentiment exactly where I wanted and stamped in Real Red ink. Because the watercolor paper is rough, I had to overstamp to get the sentiment fully inked. And yes….the Misti is a total life saver for that!!! It makes every photopolymer stamp easier to use!! While this takes a little longer that the average “simple one layer” card, I think the result is worth it.

The Card Concept #57

After a summer hiatus, we are back to stamping over at The Card Concept! And we are starting you off on a happy note with a fabulous inspiration piece that you are sure to love.

As soon as I saw all those little plants in the bright rainbow pots, I thought of this stamp set from an old Paper Pumpkin kit (SU). The little coffee cut just begs to be colored and the sweet plant is a perfect touch. I want this in real life!! I added a sentiment from the Watercolor Wishes set. I just thought this font was a nice match for the image. All of my coloring is using Tim Holtz Distress Inks in a variety of colors. The pink is Picked Raspberry which I totally adore!! I added these sequins from Pretty Pink Posh that mimic the colors from the inspiration and cut the panel using my Wonky Stitches Dies from My Favorite Things. In keeping with the Clean and Graphic style, I put my image panel up on a white card base to complete it.

Freshly Made Sketches #250

I’m sure you have already been blown away by the amazing Cécile Ribon in her time as a Guest Designer at Freshly Made Sketches. Well, this week she took on the task of being our sketch hostess. And look at what she came up with!! It really is fun!

I wanted to play a little more with O Christmas Tree from Concord and 9th as a continuing celebration of their first birthday. The fonts from this set are so fabulous and the variety of images are super fun. I took a panel of watercolor paper and inked it up with Tim Holtz Distress Inks in a variety of blues. Then I splattered it with some water to see what would happen. True confessions….this was actually my third panel….I messed up the embossing on the first two….yes, it was THAT stamping day. The interesting finding in all this was the differences you get with varying brands of watercolor paper. This paper is the Fabriano 140 lb Cold Press but I has also played with the Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Paper. They have different textures (Tim Holtz has a smooth side and a rougher side) and the water spots move the ink in different ways. It is like a fun experiment to play with them!! I found that the Fabriano held onto the color just a little more and the texture really shows when you sponge on the colors. I think the effect on this is pretty and I didn’t want to distract too much from it. I added the snowflakes from the set by stamping in Versamark and heat embossing with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I pulled a snowflake wooden element from my stash (SU) and heat embossed it in white too. The sentiment was stamped onto a Night of Navy panel the same way. I added a few Sparkling Clear sequins which I love for how they morph depending on the background.

Another fun week in store over at Freshly Made Sketches! Our sketch hostess this week is the fabulous Jen Mitchell and, no surprise, she has a clean and modern sketch for us this week. Love it!

I thought it would be fun to color an image on the big panel of the sketch and then add a die as the sentiment. I went with this pretty flower from Mama Elephant out of the Butterfly Kisses set. I wanted to work on my coloring for white flowers. I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink to color. I think the effect is pretty and I look forward to playing some more with this concept. The sentiment comes from the retiring Greetings Thinlits from SU and was cut from the same watercolor paper as the image.

I am so excited to be a part of this amazing group of Stampin’ Up demonstrators! If you haven’t heard of “The Crew” yet, you are going to be so thrilled with this. We are here to show you the versatility of one stamp set every time we hop (the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month). We have a whole team of people and different stampers participate each time. Like you, we look to find ways to maximize our investments and the single focus on one set allows you to see all the possibilities! This week, our featured stamp is Blended Bloom. I have loved this flower from the moment I first saw it…such fun to color! And it is retiring so make sure you get it before it is gone.

Did I mention that I love coloring this flower! Love it! *smile* Today I pulled out Chameleon Pens to see how they would be on this image and they did not disappoint! Only two pens for all the coloring! Love that. The colors were inspired by The Card Concept 54. I did stamp another flower on the side of this one to practice on first. Once I decided how I wanted to do the shading, the rest was just a little bit of patience, coloring each petal separately. I find that coloring makes me really happy so I was thrilled to just take a bit of time on the flower. Once I was done, I cut it out. I colored this yellow ink onto watercolor paper in order to follow the sketch from Fusion Card Challenge. I added a sentiment from Watercolor Wishes and some sequins to complete the sketch.

Kate’s Day Dream

With my youngest on Easter break this week, my stamping time has still been a little limited but I have been able to sneak down to the stamp room some. And I even got my son to join me for a few minutes! Mom win! What tempted him away from Legos and his iPad?? Well, a cute cat stamp of course! I just got this little adorable set from Newton’s Nook called Newton’s Day Dream. I have been infatuated with the Newton images for a while but always had a hard time choosing which one I wanted. I knew that this was one I had to have because my, um, “muse” tends to look a lot like this a lot of the time. My kitty Kate (the little princess calico) is such a sweet girl. She is an inside cat so I suspect being out amongst the flowers and grass is in her day dreams. But we have loads of pictures of her just like this curled up on book bags, toys, chairs, stamp tables, and everywhere in between.Here is one at Christmas. Like all calicos she has the most unique markings and it was fun to be able to mimic them on this sweet image. I stamped in black using WPlus9’s Dye Ink onto Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Paper and then used my Zig Clean Color Pens to color Kate in (Bright Yellow, Light Brown and Black). I added a sentiment from the February Paper Pumpkin kit and then cut the image using the Stitched Mats Circles from Lil’ Inker. The background paper is retired SU DSP.

I mentioned that my son came down to stamp with me after seeing this adorable image and he decided to use a Minecraft Lego cat (yes…..the perfect storm of toy greatness for a 10yo = Legos + Minecraft) for his coloring choices. Here are our cards together.He used some of my retired Blendabilites and colored on Thick WW card stock. He liked the red polka dots behind the kitty so we just used the same layout as mine.
