Dogwood Graduation

Dogwood Graduation by Jen Timko | Butterfly Kisses Stamp by Mama Elephant, Chameleon Color Tones Pencils, Wood Textures DSP by Stampin' UpWith this time of year, so many graduations are upon us and I’m always looking for ideas to create unique and special cards to celebrate.  I thought this sentiment from Mama Elephant was absolutely perfect for a special graduate I know!  And the flower image from the same set (Butterfly Kisses) is really pretty too.

I used this card as one of my samples for the Chameleon Color Tones Pencils review over at Splitcoaststampers.  The pretty coral and green pencils (double sided!) create the perfect shading and no stress over coordination.  I stamped the image using Versafine Onyx Black ink onto Strathmore Mixed Media paper.  I love this particular paper the best with the pencils.  It has a smoother feel that a watercolor paper but enough “tooth” to allow light coloring and layering.  The key with most colored pencils, it seems, is layering.  Lots of layering.  And patience!  I colored for bit and then moved on to a different section.  Eventually I came back to each part and layered some more, and so on.  I had never used wax based pencils so I definitely had a learning curve…but not an overwhelming one.  Success came quickly and the colors on these just match!  A light touch was definitely the key to success.  As a background for the image, I used this brand new DSP from Stampin’ Up called Wood Textures DSP.  It is a MUST HAVE from the catalog that goes live today.  I promise you it will fly off the shelves so take a look and order it quickly!

That’s it for today.  If you want to see more about these pencils, please go over to the review (linked above) there are amazing videos from both Lydia Fiedler and Kathy Racoosin….two extraordinary stampers!

Back tomorrow with a collaboration blog hop that I know you don’t want to miss.  Hope to see you then!  Have a great day!

FMS290 - Flower Hugs by Jen Timko | Mondo Hydrandgea Stamp and Dies by Ellen Hutson, Lovely Stamp by Ellen Hutson, Chameleon Color Tone Pencils, Chameleon Color Tone PensI have been waiting for today because I have something super awesome to share with you!!  Not only do we have a great sketch by the lovely Kim Singdahlsen at Freshly Made Sketches, I also finally get to share some information about a product review I did for Splitcoaststampers!

I have been using the amazing new pencils from Chameleon and I created this card by combining the Chameleon Color Tone Pens with the Color Tone Pencils.  Wow, they are great together!  I shared details and my thoughts on paper choices over at Splitcoaststampers so please check the entire review from the review team here:  CHAMELEON COLOR TONE PENCILS REVIEW

To help you understand a bit more of how the products work together, I made a quick video showing you how I did the coloring:

I made the flowers the star of the show but I could not resist adding a doily that seemed perfect for the sketch!  I used Night of Navy Baker’s Twine to coordinate with the blue in the flowers and thought this great sentiment from Ellen Hutson’s Lovely worked beautifully with the sketch.

The Freshly Made Sketches design team has created some beautiful work to inspire you and the Splitcoaststampers Review Team has samples that show many facets of these new pencils.  I’ll be back tomorrow with another card I created for the review.  Until then, have a great day!

Amazing Friend

Amazing Friend by Jen Timko | Lovely Blooms Stamp by Newton's Nook Designs, WatercolorToday is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog and I am so excited about this one!  I had a card like this in mind for a while using the Lovely Blooms stamp set and this exceeded even what I had envisioned (and that NEVER happens).  The best part, it came together so quickly.  This is super fun and really easy to reproduce!

I stamped using Versamark ink onto Strathmore Mixed Media paper.  Quick and sort of random with nothing too fussy.  Then I heat embossed using white embossing powder.  I love the half wreath feel so I added this great sentiment from the set using the same method.  Then all I did was color using Winsor and Newton paints. I got the image wet and dropped in color.  For some I let the colors combine but with others (purple specifically) it is best to let things dry first and then layer color on top.  With paints, you can do that and avoid muddiness.  I added these sweet little Clear Round Drops from Studio Katia to mimic the look of water.

I hope this will encourage you to try your hand at watercoloring too.  It doesn’t all have to be in the lines or perfect!  Hope you have a great day.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Stamp: Lovely Blooms (Newton’s Nook Designs); Ink:  Versamark; Paper:  Strathmore Mixed Media, Green Leaf Card Stock (SSS); Accessories:  Silver Brush Round 4, Winsor and Newton Paints, Heat Tool, White Stampin’ Emboss Powder (SU), Clear Round Drops (Studio Katia)

FMS289 by Jen Timko | Lovely Blooms Stamps and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Studio Katia SequinsOh, look at the amazing sketch we have for you today over at Freshly Made Sketches!  My friend Linda Callahan, queen of clever, is our hostess this week and her sketch will get you moving right to your craft room!

As soon as I saw the sketch, I thought shaker card.  So that is just what I made!  I did a quick watercolor using Tim Holtz Distress Inks on these fun flowers from the Lovely Blooms Stamp set (Newton’s Nook Designs) and cut them out with coordinating dies.  I chose colors to match my awesome sequins from Studio Katia and to make my coordination easy.  I cut a frame with Stitched Shapes Thinlits (SU).  The sentiment from Happy Little Thoughts (NND) was stamped onto the window sheet (also cut with the square die) and then heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  Kind of wish I had black powder for a sharper look but I think this works with the loose watercolor look from the flowers.  I rooted around in my DSP stack until I found a print that worked in the background.  I kind of love these stripes!

I have been stamping madly and have lots coming up for you in the next couple of weeks.  Until next time, I hope you have an amazing day!  Thanks for stopping in!

Supplies:

Stamps:  Lovely Blooms (Newton’s Nook Designs), Happy Little Thoughts (Newton’s Nook Designs); Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black, Tim Holtz Distress Inks; Paper:  Fabriano Watercolor, Typeset Specialty DSP (SU Retired); Accessories:  Big Shot, Stitched Shapes Thinlits, Window Sheet, Sequins by Studio Katia and 28 Lilac Lane, Foam Adhesive Strips

FMS288 by Jen Timko | Beautiful Day Stamp by Altenew, sentiment from Paper Pumpkin by Stampin' Up, Zig Clean Color Markers, WatercolorI hope you are having a great week!  I’m so happy to share the latest sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  Our sketch hostess this week is one seriously amazing stamper!  Jen Mitchell has created a gorgeous sketch for us and I’m totally in love with it!

I tried to use a different color palette than I have been playing with lately and started first with this go-to flower from Altenew’s Beautiful Day stamp set.  I stamped using Versafine ink and then colored using Zig Clean Color Markers.  Just two colors was all it took to get pretty variation on the petals.  I fussy cut it out and then added it to this ivory base to match the sketch.  I used the Softly Falling embossing folder to give dimension to the top panel and added a Paper Pumpkin sentiment on the bottom later.  I then added a Basic Pearl (colored with a Sharpie) and some Black Metallic Thread to the flower.

This sketch has infinite potential and I think I may use it again soon!  Love, love it!  I hope you will too.  So glad you stopped in for today’s card.  I’ll be back tomorrow with a look at a new product and I can’t wait to share.  Until then, have a great day!!

The week is flying by and today is the last day of release week for  Newton’s Nook Designs.  Your favorite kitty is back again today and this time Newton gets a scooter!

Wheelie Great by Jen Timko | Newton Scoots By Stamps and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Sky Borders Dies (Newton's Nook Designs), Zig Clean Color Markers, Watercolor CardThis little kitty called out to be a girl to me so I gave her a hot pink scooter and some great coordinating accessories.  Don’t you love her scarf?  The sentiments that go with this image are just fantastic for many different occasions.  Love that!

I colored our little friend using Zig Clean Color Markers and created a background with Distress Ink.  I pulled some of the colors from the image and found coordinating paper from my stash that matched perfectly.  YAY!  The scallop border is created with the Sky Borders Dies and it is just the right layer for adding my sentiment.  The clouds in the set would have been fun on the background circle but somehow one ending up as the “exhaust” instead.  Oh so cute!  You can get you chance to win this free but make sure you work fast!

Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Newton Dreams of Italy

Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Newton Dreams of Italy published on 38 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs May Release – Newton Dreams of Italy

Did you enjoy day 1 of  the May release from Newton’s Nook Designs?  Well, I’m sure you will be just as thrilled with the reveal for Day 2!  This is my second post of the day so if you are looking for Freshly Made Sketches, just roll to the next post.

Ciao Bella by Jen Timko | Newton Dreams of Italy Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Distress Ink, Zig Clean Color MarkersI’m going to tell you right now that I have only just started playing with this new set called Newton Dreams of Italy.  Just look at the adorable images and so many ways to have fun!  But the very first thing that came to mind was use gondola image and create Newton’s very own little river.

I looked up some information on gondolas and found out that they are traditionally black.  I found some fun images that showed that the insides have different colors but saw quite a number of versions that were red.  I went with that and then made sure that Newton himself was all decked out in the appropriate gear.  Isn’t he just too cute?!  I created the river using the Land Border Dies on different angles.  Then I simply cut it out again using a rectangle.  I sponged on Distress Ink to create the water and then on a background panel, I added a little more color to help the water pop.  I looked up pictures of the actual Rialto bridge as an inspiration for the shading here (just a little light blue).  Finally, I added a little “Ciao bella” (hello beautiful) that you can just imagine coming from our dapper friend here.  Hard to see on the black base but I added some striped embossing too.  You are going to have such fun with the images in this set.  I just know the team has knocked this one out of the park too.  Of course you can get the set for free….don’t you love that?!

Freshly Made Sketches #287

FMS287 by Jen Timko | Feathery Friends Hostess Set by Stampin' Up, Chameleon Color Tones PencilsThis is my first post of the day, if you are looking for day 2 of the Newton’s Nook Designs May Release, it will be up in just a bit.

I am the sketch hostess this week over at Freshly Made Sketches and I have a sketch that I hope you will really enjoy.  I thought the long panel would give you space for some different images or dies that take up the vertical and I added in a place for a sentiment too.

So did you hear that the new Stampin’ Up catalog has been released to demonstrators and the preorder is super fun.  I just HAD to have one of the adorable hostess sets called Feathery Friends and I think it is going to be such fun to color.  Today I used the Chameleon Color Tones Pencils for coloring.  I have not had wax based pencils like this before so I’m still working on my technique with them but the colors are really pretty, don’t you think?!  And speaking of color…look at that card base!  Oh yes, you DO spy one of the new In Colors for 2017-18 called Berry Burst.  It is rich and so lovely!  The sentiment is from the same stamp set and I added on some fun sequins in coordinating colors.

Thanks for stopping by for my FMS card.  Make sure you come back for the Newton’s Nook projects and a chance to win free stamp sets!  See you soon!
