Fancy Friday – Speechless!

Fancy Friday – Speechless! published on 8 Comments on Fancy Friday – Speechless!

Welcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop!  Our team is a group of stampers who love to make beautiful things.  Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy!  If you hopped over from one of my crafty heroes Cathy Caines, welcome to the next stop.  For April, we are focusing on the gorgeous artwork and images in the stamp sets.  Sometimes pictures speak louder without words!FF April by Jen Timko | Butterfly Basics Stamp by Stampin' Up, No Line WatercolorI chose this gorgeous flower image from the Butterfly Basic stamp set as my focal point.  I thought it would be fun to try coloring it using the no-line watercolor technique.  I’m still working on this but I am pretty happy with the end result here.  One of the best parts of stamping is that there is always something new to learn!!  After I colored the flowers, I added a few pretty little details.  First some lace trim (this one is retired but SU always has the most amazing ribbons and trims) and then I added some Linen Thread.  The base is Crumb Cake, one of my favorite neutrals.  I added some Basic Pearls too, because, well, I love them!

Now on to the rest of the hop!  These talented stampers are going to inspire you for sure!  Next up is the lovely Sue Plote.

From Me to You by Jen Timko | Hello Lovely Stamp Set by Concord & 9th, O Christmas Tree Stamp by Concord & 9th, Petal Point Pigment Ink by Clear SnapI had some time to just stamp last week and I wanted to join in the April Challenge from Where Creativity Meets C9.  Their theme this month is One Layer.  Sounded right up my alley!  With a one layer card the whole focus falls to the image so I choose the beautiful Hello Lovely stamp by Concord & 9th.  I really do love it!

Once I had the stamp chosen, the fun was in the colors.  I used a light gray card stock and this gorgeous purple pigment ink.  It happens to be a sneak peek of a new release coming soon from Clear Snap.  Pretty, isn’t it?!  The nice part about pigment ink is the strength of color and how it embosses.  I just heat embossed with Clear embossing powder.  All the work here is done by the great image and the ink! From Me to You by Jen Timko - CloseupThe sentiment for this comes from a holiday set (also C9), O Christmas Tree.  I love when sets have purposes beyond the holiday!  After cutting the panel with a stitched rectangles die, I thought the card needed just a little more.  I recently won some beautiful sequins from 28 Lilac Lane (designed by May Flaum) and the Mixed Berry set went perfectly with the ink.  I added a few just to give an extra something to the card.

FMS285 by Jen Timko | Beautiful Ride by Simon Says Stamp, You've Got This by Stampin' Up, Copic Coloring, BicycleHow did a week already pass?  Welcome back for another Wednesday and a great challenge from Freshly Made Sketches.  Our hostess this week is the lovely Amy O’Neill, queen of beautiful color combinations, and she has a great sketch for us.

I had this bicycle stamp (Beautiful Ride from Simon Says Stamp) out because my youngest son was working on a Peeps diorama.  Let’s face it, crafty tools make dioramas a little more tolerable.  He had to choose a country in Europe that they are studying and create a scene.  He opted for the Tour de France aka Le Tour de Peeps.  The bike images and dies were particularly handy! Tour de Peeps | Beautiful Ride stamp by Simon Says StampSince the stamp was out on my desk, it seemed like the perfect fit for my card.  I colored it with Copic markers and then added some of the accessory images.  The background comes from a SU set called You’ve Got This and I love the fun scribbled look to it.  I stamped it using some Distress Ink after stamping off some.  The sentiment is from the bike set.

I’m linking this to the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge since they have an “Anything Goes” theme this week.  Also, they are featuring Newton’s Nook Designs so you can bet I’ll be playing again this week!

I hope you have fun with this one.  As always the team has such a variety of projects and you are sure to be inspired.  Hope you have a great day!

FMS284 by Jen Timko | Botanical Garden Stamp by Altenew, Paper Pumpkin by Stampin' Up Sentiment, Woodgrain Embossing Folder by Stampin' Up, Petal Point Pigment Ink by ClearsnapI hope you are having a great week!  I am slowly coming back to reality after a week vacation.  Our family took a wonderful trip to San Diego last week…what a treat!  The boys both had some real favorites events.  Oldest loved seeing the USS Midway and all the airplanes while the youngest enjoyed both the zoo and Sea World.  I love a vacation that can allow everyone to see something that feeds their interests!

So I finally got back into the craft room yesterday and that always seems to be a slow process for me.  Fortunately, Karren created a fabulous (and really workable) sketch for Freshly Made Sketches that made it a bit easier.  I knew I wanted to use these pretty flowers from Altenew (Botanical Garden) and also pulled inspiration from Altenew’s April Inspiration Challenge.  I loved the blue and the yellow and also the bokeh styling of their photo.

For my flowers, I wanted to try a new to me technique.  I have some sneak peek Petal Point inks from Clearsnap that are pigment inks so I tried this technique from Jennifer McGuire.  It is a little bit messy but I agree with Jennifer that using your fingers to apply ink is easy to control.  It also allowed me to have a bit of a splattered look on the flowers per the inspiration.Jen Timko | Botanical Garden by Altenew, Petal Point Pigment Ink by Clearsnap

The fun part with pigment ink is that it stays stickier for a little longer and that allows time to be able to come back and emboss the whole image.  The effect gives a bit of shine and depth to the card that is hard to capture in a picture.  For my center panel of the sketch,  I cut a piece of Thick Whisper White and embossed it with the Woodgrain Embossing Folder (SU).  It adds a subtle texture without pulling attention from the flowers.

I hope you are off to a great week.  I’m back to stamping today and a bit of gardening too.  I love this time of year in Virginia and my youngest is still off this week for break.  We are getting the gardens all ready for planting our vegetables and re-mulching to get things tidy after the winter.  I’m lucky he is such a great helper!  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon! Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Newton’s Birdbath

So today is the last day of the April release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  So far, there hasn’t been a Newton…were you getting worried??!!  No fear, today is the day for all of you who love this fellow!

Newton's Birdbath by Jen Timko | Newton's Birdbath Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic ColoringYou know the hardest part about Newton sets??  Ok, besides choosing a favorite.  I always debate what kind of kitty he gets to be.  For this card, I chose to make him look a bit more like the real Newton (you can see his pictures over on the company site).

I started by stamping the images and coloring them with Copic markers (colors listed below).  Once I was done and had the images cut out with the coordinating dies, I thought it best to create a cute little scene.  The Land Border Dies with the grass border was exactly what I needed!  All you have to do is make one cut and you have two grassy edges.  And this sentiment….yes, I have already given you my disclaimer on love them….it is another one that is wonderful to have for so many occasions.  Ready to this guy for free??  Here you go:

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Simply Relative

Wow, it is already day 3 of the April release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Today is the day for all of you “sentiment-a-holics”!!  You know who you are!

Wonderful Teacher by Jen Timko | Simply Relative Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Lovely Blooms Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic ColoringI mentioned yesterday how much I love flower sets but good sentiment sets are another love of mine.  And this is an amazing sentiment set!!  Just look at all the choices to personalize cards for the people you love.  So many of these are options I have not seen in a stamp before and I’m so happy to have them.

I also told you yesterday that the Lovely Blooms set was perfect for coloring and I used it again here to create a frame with flowers.  I chose some pretty pinks and purples and stamped a whole bunch of little flowers.  Before you know it, I had a virtual garden to choose from.  The little dies eliminate any need for fussy cutting and make it easy to create fun groupings.  I chose to make this for a teacher that certainly deserves recognition!  To be truthful, just having this word choice makes the set a must have!  I used the Sky Borders Dies to create a scallop and picked a pretty raspberry card stock as a base.  This is a card that you could easily duplicate for all the teachers who need a little pick-me-up this time of year!  So now is the time that we all love….

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Lovely Blooms

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Lovely Blooms published on 28 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Lovely Blooms

Welcome back for another day of release week for the April release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Day 2 has a beautiful flower set called Lovely Blooms.

Blooms for Mom by Jen Timko | Lovely Blooms Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Mason Jar, #newtonsnookI hardly knew where to start with this set.  If you follow me, you know I love myself a flower.  And this set is full of pretty images to mix and match.  I finally settled on creating a watercolor styled card but kept it simple.  I sponged Distress Ink onto watercolor paper creating some ombré effects and then stamped over the sponging with the images.  The coordinating Lovely Blooms Dies made short work of cutting things out so that I could create this pretty little arrangement.  The script sentiments are really great so I chose to create this one for mom.  Um….sorry mom, should have given a spoiler alert.  I added a few sequins for a finishing touch and I just love the effect you get on this with no actual coloring required.

Of course, if you love to color, this set is totally for you too!  I’ll show you what I mean tomorrow!  Until then, you have a chance to win this set with just some simple commenting.

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Beautiful Plumage

Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Beautiful Plumage published on 30 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs April Release – Beautiful Plumage

Happy Monday to you!  Today is the start of release week for the April release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  This release is so perfect for spring and you are going to love it!

Beautiful Peacock by Jen Timko | Beautiful Plumage Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic Coloring on VellumThis new set is a really lovely start to the April offerings, don’t you think?  The swirl images are always so pretty and the peacocks are fabulous!  The sentiments that go with this set are also ones you are sure to love.

I decided to emboss the image with gold onto vellum and I love the effect.  Using Copic markers, I colored on the back of the stamped image to create the color variances in his feathers.  This technique is very forgiving and fun to do.  Here is a closeup so you can see him a little better.Beautiful Plumage closeup by Jen Timko | Newton's Nook DesignsI added another vellum panel over the card base.  Using the coordinating die cuts for the set, the peacock is super easy to cut out.  To help him stand out more, he is up on a stitched circle and I added some gold thread behind him.  I know you will love all that the design team has to show you and here is your chance to get the set for free!

FMS282 by Jen Timko | Mondo Hydrangea and Lovely Stamp Sets by Ellen Hutson, Zig Clean Color, WatercolorQuick post today.  Sorry if you stopped in earlier and got a white screen or other messages.  Apparently a plugin update cause the whole site to have a fatal error.  Good times!  Now to happy things!

We have the most wonderful sketch this week at Freshly Made Sketches from the lovely Cécile.  I just love the idea of the layered squares!  It didn’t take me long to decide on the smallest squares from the Stitched Shapes Thinlits but then what to add?  I was looking through my stamp sets and the most counterintuitive set jumped out at me.  Mondo Hydrangea by Ellen Hutson!  So yes, the mondo flower was not the right fit for the squares but the little blossoms were perfectly sized!  I stamped them in Versafine ink onto Fabriano watercolor paper and colored with my Zigs.  Simple coloring but oh so pretty!  I added on a little sentiment from another Ellen Hutson set called Lovely.  Am I allowed to say how happy I am with this card?  I was fighting with my mojo a bit this week and having this card come together quickly saved a bit of my sanity.

Ok…off to visit the amazing team.  Make sure you stop in to let us know what you think of the sketch and I hope you’ll join in with us.  I’ll be back at the beginning of next week with the April release week from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Until then, I hope you have a great week!  See you soon.

Newton’s Nook Designs – Cottage Flowers

Newton’s Nook Designs – Cottage Flowers published on 2 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs – Cottage Flowers

Hello Friend by Jen Timko | Cottage Garden Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Distress Ink, Watercolor I’m up today over at the Newton’s Nook Designs blog today and I want to share all the details with you here.  My project focuses on the Cottage Garden Stamp Set and coordinating dies.

The art in this beautiful stamp set is unique and really pretty but I also fell in love with the sentiments.  I created this card to show one of them off and to also highlight that the dies are able to multitask.  On a piece of watercolor paper (Tim Holtz Distress), I sponged on some different Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Picked Raspberry, Mowed Lawn, Blueprint Sketch and Squeezed Lemonade then splattered on a bit of water.  Using the dies, I cut out the flowers big and small.  Additionally I created a frame with the ovals from my Stitched Shapes dies.  I stamped the sentiment in Picked Raspberry onto a white base (using the Misti helps since I needed to stamp a few times given the nature of Distress Ink).  All I had to do was group my flowers and add some Basic Pearls.

I love when die sets lend themselves to quick cards and I think these flowers are ones I’ll return to again and again (and of course, all the other adorable shapes in the set!).  Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  Thanks so much for stopping in.  See you soon!
