Welcome back for Day 3 of January Release Week at Newton’s Nook Designs. Dog lovers, today is your day! Especially all of you who are owned by pugs. The adorable Pug Hugs is going to make you so happy! You can see more information over at the Newton’s Nook Designs blog!
These little pug images are just too cute and I just love the accessories that go with them. I chose to do a little bit of masking to put the birthday hat on the pug. I stamped the images onto watercolor paper and then colored them with Zig Clean Color Markers using some of the grays and added orange to his hat. I’m forever needing cards that are more appropriate for boys and I love that this set could be for anyone on your list. Once colored, I cut the image out using a stitched circle die and then I added in this orange polka dot banner and stamped the sentiment right onto the card base. It still needed a little something so I added Baker’s Twine to coordinate with the base.
Would you like to win the “Pug Hugs” Stamp Set? This set will be given away to ONE lucky winner!

Since it is release week for Newton’s Nook, please bear with me as I combine the two challenges from Freshly Made Sketches and The Card Concept this week. The sketch from the kind and amazing Cindy Hall seemed perfect to with the inspiration piece!
I came back to this gorgeous set from Concord & 9th called Hello Lovely because I really, really wanted to use this sentiment for the sketch. They seemed perfect for each other! I stamped using Versafine Black ink to ensure a crisp look. The two words are actually separate stamps and can be used in multiple ways (one of the things that drew me to the set) and then there is the flower. You may remember the flower from my last card for The Card Concept and it really is a full card size. But how wonderful that you can use a small portion of it too! I used the colors from the inspiration piece (orange, pink and gray) and I love how quick it was to create this pretty watercolor look. The image panel and the base are Shimmery White Card Stock (SU). This paper really does take ink well and is beautiful with a light coloring hand…nevermind the subtle shimmer which is so pretty in person. I added a layer of Tangerine Tango and colored some Basic Pearls with a black Sharpie marker to mimc the speckles from the image and add a little more dimension.
I know you have been getting tons of posts from me this week and I hope you have enjoyed my projects. This is my first post of the day and you will see the next in the January Release from Newton’s Nook Designs in just a bit. The FMS and Card Concept design teams have created marvelous projects for our challenges this week and I hope you will join us for both. Thanks for stopping in. See you soon!
Stamps: Hello Lovely (Concord & 9th); Ink: Versafine Onyx Black, WPlus9 Black Dye, Zig Clean Color Pens; Paper: Shimmery White (SU), Tangerine Tango; Accessories: Misti, Glue Dots, Zig BrusH2O, Basic Pearls, Black Sharpie Marker
Welcome back to a new year of challenges from The Card Concept. I am so happy to share the first one with you! The inspiration piece is really pretty!
I was inspired by the gold and the flowers in the background plus the sentiment on the note. I was lucky enough to receive this beautiful stamp set from Santa. It is called Hello Lovely by Concord & 9th. I stamped in Versamark and embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I did the same with the sentiment. I added just a touch of color with my Zig markers to mimic the pink in the flowers. All I added was a few gold sequins to finish. I chose the Clean and Graphic style for this week.
I hope you will join us for this one. I’m sure you will see something in our inspiration that you love! This is my second post of the day so don’t forget to check out the latest from Freshly Made Sketches too. Thanks for stopping in. See you soon!
Today is a two post Wednesday and this is my first card for the day. I’m so excited to share the inspiration from The Card Concept for our latest challenge. As I was looking at the beautiful details of that fireplace, I found that the colors and the patterns started to jump out at me and so an idea was born.
I think this flower from Poinsettia (Simon Says Stamp) is simply wonderful to color. I used it with Copics last week but decided to try it with Zig Clean Color Markers for this challenge. I thought the watercolor feel was more in line with the country vibe of the photo. I stamped the flower using Versafine Onyx Black and then masked it to add the leaf. The paper is Fabriano Watercolor Paper. The sentiments from the same stamp set worked perfectly for this so I inked up this combination with Versafine again and used my Misti to make sure my stamping was right. I always use my Misti when I have colored the image (because…well, you know why). I used the Wonky Stitched Rectangles Dies to add a bit more detail when I cut the image panel down to size. Now for the background. I created a card base using this great pattern from Under the Tree DSP (SU ret). Yep, the whole card base. Because the other side (now the inside) is a Kraft pattern with little stars. I love the result!! Finally, I pulled some sequins out and started to mix and match. These happen to all be from Paper Pumpkin kits.
Make sure you check my second post for Freshly Made Sketches too. I am still recovering from our Thanksgiving adventures but the fun was worth all the traveling. Hope you have a great week! See you soon!
Today is Freshly Made Sketches day and I have some fun for you! They sweet and oh so talented Cindy Hall is our hostess and she has created an instant classic for us to use this week!
A little while ago, I was lucky enough to have a layover in Dallas-Ft. Worth and got to spend a whole day with the lovely Bev Gerard. She is even nicer in person that she is over at Splitcoaststampers (almost impossible to believe!!). She and her dear husband came over to whisk me away from a long boring layover hotel and straight into her amazing stamp room. I sat there in awe and we even did a little bit of stamping. One of the things I brought home was this stamped image from Merry Mice and I knew I wanted to color him for The 30 Day Coloring Challenge. I posted a closeup of him yesterday on Instagram and you can see the sparkle in his little sweater and on the ornament! I used my Zig Clean Color pens for coloring and then added some Wink of Stella to add some shimmer. The image was stamped on Fabriano Watercolor Paper which happens to be a nice color match for Shimmery White card stock from SU. So that is what I used as a base. The sparkle from the Stella is also a nice complement to the shimmer from the base. I added a Cherry Cobbler layer and a Bermuda Bay embossed layer across the card. Isn’t this mouse just the cutest??? I love him so much! If you do too, you are in luck. He is on sale right now for a 25% discount!! It is our lucky day!
Just a reminder that this is post 1 of 2 today. I’m back in a little while with a beautiful inspiration challenge from The Card Concept. Please make sure you go check out that FMS team’s work this week and let them know how much you appreciate their work! See you soon!

Because I had some time to stamp last week and I needed a card for a friend, it seemed like the perfect time to pull out this gorgeous stamp set from Stampin’ Up. I think the art on this bird is stunning!!! The best part of this set?? Less is more. (I know it shocks you to hear that I’d be drawn to a set like that, haha!) I stamped the image and the sentiment onto watercolor paper using WPlus9 Black Dye Ink. Then using a Zig Clean Color Pen in Light Blue I added in a bit of color to the bird. And a few sequins (some hoarded ones that I LOVE) from the Watercolor Wishes kit that matched perfectly just had to go on too. I put it on a Soft Sky base and cut the inside sentiment panel to match the layout of the front.
I rarely see a set that simply goes into my shopping cart without question and this was one. The set of 3 is perfect for sympathy cards but also for inspiration. Ok…quick post for today. Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches. Until then, have a great day!
It is a double post Wednesday!! Yippee! My second of the day is my card for The Card Concept. We have a beautiful inspiration picture and you are going to have loads of ideas from it. As I was looking through my stash, I realized I was woefully low on pumpkin stamps (seriously??!!). But I had kept this one from a few years ago because it is always fun to color.
I stamped it in WPlus9 Black ink and colored the image with my Zig Clean Color Pens. The best part about saving great images is that you get to re-visit them later when you have different supplies. Coloring this one with the Zigs made me so happy. I’m not totally sure I hit the mark with Clean and Graphic this week but in an attempt to keep it there, I simply added the sentiment from the set and kept the rest clean. The chevron paper is from the old Sweater Weather DSP (ret) that gives a nod to the inspiration. I was also inspired by Ceal’s challenge for Falliday Fest at Splitcoaststampers, FF16Simplybeautiful, which is a Colors of Fall challenge. There are a lot of great ones to join in so go check them out!
I hope you will have fun joining us this week at The Card Concept. Remember that my Freshly Made Sketches post went up earlier so go check that one out too. Thanks so much for stopping in today. See you soon!

Welcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop! Our team is a group of stampers who love to make beautiful things. Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy! If you hopped over from the incredible Erica, welcome to the next stop. For September, our theme is Anything Holiday! If it is a holiday item from the main catalog or the Holiday catalog, we are celebrating it!
I decided to stick with a set that has actually been around for a while but should not be forgotten. The Wondrous Wreath stamp set is one I loved from the minute I saw it. I decided to show its versatility a bit and create a card with only the wreath and the sentiment from the set. I started with a product I just discovered but already love. They are Strathmore Watercolor Cards and they really are fabulous. Very much like the Stampin’ Up Note Cards except made with watercolor paper. Makes it easy to create a one layer watercolor card and conquer that hoarding tendency that tends to show up around watercolor paper (please tell me I’m not the only one). I stamped the wreath with Tim Holtz Distress ink in Twisted Citron and then colored in with my Aquapainter with some more Distress Ink in Mowed Lawn. Using the same inks, I connected the leaves with hand drawn stems which makes the wreath have a subtly different look. To keep with that watercolor feel, I did not stamp the berries from the set (but you totally could). Instead I hand drew them in with a Zig Clean Color Pen. Once I had this like I wanted all that was left was the sentiment. And then I had to take a deep breath because I didn’t want to mess it up. So out came my Misti!! I got the sentiment exactly where I wanted and stamped in Real Red ink. Because the watercolor paper is rough, I had to overstamp to get the sentiment fully inked. And yes….the Misti is a total life saver for that!!! It makes every photopolymer stamp easier to use!! While this takes a little longer that the average “simple one layer” card, I think the result is worth it.
I think you are going to enjoy all the holiday fun from the hop this week! This talented group never disappoints!! You are sure to be totally wow’d by Krista at your next stop. Have fun on the hop!
I have something fun to share with you today! I get to be a guest designer with the Stamp Ink Paper Challenge over the month of September! Awesome!! And lucky for me they started off “easy” (for me) with a Less Is More challenge this week. Right up my alley!
Back in July I has colored this flower from Altenew’s Botanical Garden for the 30 day coloring challenge but never used it for anything. But there it sat calling out to me. I thought it would be perfect for this kind of challenge since a clean card allows focus on the flower itself. Just a couple of colors of Zig Clean Color Pens can create such a beautiful look! I love the wash on this flower! The sentiment comes from a Paper Pumpkin Kit (love that font!!) and seemed just right to match the style of the image. I cut the panel using my trust Stitched Rectangles dies and added a few Sparking Clear Sequins from Pretty Pink Posh. These have a touch of gray to them but also can take on colors behind them. My favorite sequins!
I hope you will join in with us for this week’s challenge. Super fun inspiration from the DT for sure! Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches. Until then, I hope you have a great start of your week!
I have fun card to share with you today! I have been trying to play along with the 30-day Coloring Challenge again. I miss some days but I like that I think about taking time (even just a few minutes) to color….just because. It also pushes me to look for inspiration and find some fun challenges in which to play. I was able to do just that for this card. I started using the CAS(E) this Sketch challenge for the week as my sketch and also decided to join the Simon Wednesday Challenge. The sketch is a wonderfully clean one that I hope I didn’t stretch too far. The Simon challenge is to create a scene with a focus on Newton’s Nook stamps.
I used the adorable stamp set Newton’s Day Dream to create this little scene. As usual for all cat things, my cat muse is my sweet little calico Kate. I think in her perfect world she would nap with all these fun things flying about. Or so she tells me when she tried to sneak outside and is caught. *smile* I colored using my Zig Clean Color Pens in the following colors:I really do love coloring with these pens so much!! I cut the image panel out using my Wonky Stitches die to add a little more fun detail. Just a quick post today. I hope you have a lovely Saturday filled with sunshine.
