FMS223 - Blooming WatercolorI am so happy to be back today with this awesome new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  Our resident Artisan, Amy O’Neill, has created a super one for us this week.  You will see the team has some cool interpretations and I think you will have fun with this one.

I continued on my efforts to color as much as possible for The Daily Marker 30 Day Challenge.  I was very inspired by the incredible Dawn Woleslagle of WPlus9 and wanted to try her technique for creating a watercolor look using stamps.  She is a true artist but I simplified her method a bit to make these little flowers.  I have a video to show you the details.

FMS Final 223-001I hope you have a great time playing along with us this week!  Let me know what you think about the technique and tutorial, too.  I’m working this week but brought along some coloring to do.  With any luck, you’ll see the results in a card soon (or maybe on Instagram even sooner).  Until then…have a great day!  Thanks for stopping in!

Essence of Love…

Tulips in Pink

I am continuing my coloring practice for The Daily Marker 30 Day Challenge with this card today.  I love this retired image it is perfect for working on shading.  I also saw the Time Out Challenge #49 with their inspiration challenge: “Love is the flower you’ve got to let grow”.  Again….this image is simply perfect.  So I got to work.  I stamped with Smoky Slate (SU) ink and colored with my Copics.  Once I was done, I cut it out with a Stitched Rectangles Die.  When I put it on the white panel, it seemed a little blah so I added some stenciled sponging.  The stencil is from the Happy Patterns masks group.  I used my Ranger Mini Round Blending Tool (I love it because it doesn’t create edges).  Once I had the background on, I liked it much better.  I popped the image up on Dimensionals and added some Sparkling Clear Sequins (PPP).

Tulips - Copics

I’ll be back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  I even made another video for it!  Thanks for stopping in today.  Hope your day is great!

Gray Flower Copic Coloring Tutorial

Gray Flower Copic Coloring Tutorial published on 1 Comment on Gray Flower Copic Coloring Tutorial

I had a few requests to show you how I created the gray flower from my post a few days ago with this card.

You're in my ThoughtsSo I created a quick video to show you the basics of my Copic coloring.  I will apologize now….some of the video quality is not what I would want but I was trying out creating videos with my IPhone for the first time and clearly have some things to work out.  In any case, you can see the fundamentals and I hope you will give this a try!!

FMS222 - Floral WingsYou know when you see a sketch and know right away what you want to do?!  That is exactly what happened to me for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge!  Narelle always has a knack for layering and this sketch shows why!  You can have such fun with how to build you layers!

I knew right away that I wanted to use a butterfly instead of the rectangle (just popped in my head so I went with it) but which butterfly?  I realized that I had not used this one from the hostess set Floral Wings and I really think it is so pretty!  I stamped it in Pool Party and layered on Calypso Coral flowers with Pear Pizzazz leaves.   It is cut out with the Bold Butterflies framelits.  Now for the layers.  I thought a little banner would be fun on top but that I should maybe to a stamped layer under the butterfly.  I pulled the vine image form the set and stamped it across some Thick Whisper White card stock in the same colors.  I took a little bit of latitude with the sketch but I like the result.  The sentiment is from the same set.  Once I had everything ready to assemble, I cut the image panel with my Stitched Rectangles dies.

I hope you have fun with this week’s challenge!  The team has all sorts of cool variations to inspire you!  I think I’ll get some stamping time over the next couple of days.  I’d love to fit in some more coloring for sure!  Until next time, thanks for stopping in!  See you soon!

Happy Home - For you

I hope you are having a great week so far!  I wanted to share this fun little card with you as I tried to start out right with Kathy Racoosin’s 30 Day Coloring Challenge.  I won’t be able to color every day due to flying but I will participate where I can for sure!  I chose this sweet image from the Happy Home set out of the Occasions Catalog.  It is my favorite set from this catty!  It is stamped in WPlus9 Black Dye Ink and colored with my Zig Markers to create this easy watercolor scene that is also a birthday card for my dear husband.  The sentiment is from Watercolor Wings stamped in Versafine Black.  I put it on a Coastal Cabana base for an extra pop of color.

Happy Home - ZigsSuper quick post today since I’m back to flying later.  Long night last night with a snow storm in Denver and the ensuing airport chaos.  Hoping today is MUCH smoother!!  Perhaps that is why I’m enjoying this little spring scene so much.  I hope your day is fabulous.  Back tomorrow with the next Freshly Made Sketches challenge.  See you then!

You’re in my Thoughts

You’re in my Thoughts published on 5 Comments on You’re in my Thoughts

You're in my ThoughtsI hope your weekend is going well!  We are finally digging out of all the snow and life is returning to normal.  Both boys may even go to school tomorrow!  Yay!!  My oldest missed a whole week.  Eek!  I know a lot of people make fun of this area and how it handles snow but the reality is that we have equipment that is good for regular little snows and NOT for gigantic storms like Snowzilla.  So it takes a bit.  But I did have a great time with sledding along with all the shoveling.  Over all, a mom win for time spent with the boys!

Meanwhile, back at the stamp table, I was able to finally put together something that I worked on over a week ago.  I showed a peek of the coloring in progress on my Instagram page (link is over in my sidebar if you want to follow).  I was practicing my no-line coloring using just grays.  In this case, Copic Toner Grays T0, T2 and T5.  The flower is from Altenew’s Beautiful Day.  I stamped in SU Smoky Slate ink and then did the coloring.  I added a little white to the center with a White Gel Pen.  The sentiment is from Watercolor Wishes and also stamped in Smoky Slate.  I cut the white layer with a Lil’ Inkers Border Builders Die and added a piece of Basic Grey Vivienne DSP underneath.  Some Sparkling Clear Sequins from Pretty Pink Posh were a nice finishing touch.  You can get most of these products all in one place at Simon Says Stamp.

wednesdayblog-logoI hope you enjoy this one.  I had fun practicing my coloring.  Even more fun when it turns into something worth showing (not everything does but the practice is still worth it!).  Thought I’d add this in on the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge this week – the theme is Anything Goes.  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon!

Fancy Friday – I Heart You

Fancy Friday – I Heart You published on 8 Comments on Fancy Friday – I Heart You

Welcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop!  Our team is a group of demonstrators who love to make beautiful things.  Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy!  If you hopped over from my dear friend Cindy, welcome to the next stop.  For January we are creating a Valentines….but very special ones with a twist.  No traditional red or pink!FF Jan - I Heart YouMy first thought when I considered what colors to use was to somehow add in gold.  I went looking for a sketch and found this fun one from Can You Case It.  I also wanted to focus on Valentine’s Day for the CASology Adore Challenge.  I used a Tea Lace Doily against Basic Black and then layered on some Gold Metallic Thread and heart cut from Gold Foil with the Sweetheart Punch.  The sentiment stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder is from And Many More.  Finally a few gold Metallic Sequins to finish the image layer.  I cut a card base from Basic Black and put on an A2 sized piece of Gold Foil.  I think the color combination is really elegant and just as perfect for Valentine’s Day as red or pink!

Fancy-Friday-08I’ll be back on Sunday with another card that I had time to create.  But for now you need to get to hopping and check out all that the team has created!

The fabulous Kaitlyn Zumbach is up next!   As always, she will wow you!

Freshly Made Sketches #221

Freshly Made Sketches #221 published on 9 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #221

FMS221 - Thank YouQuick post today.  I just got back from a long day of sledding. Taking advantage of the snow while we have it!  The neighborhood sports complex has some fabulous hills that are simply crazy for the boys!  Good stuff.  Speaking of good stuff, Freshly Made Sketches has an awesome one for you this week courtesy of the wonderful Karren Johnson.  I just love it.

Had no stamping time this week due to the snow madness here.  I was able to put this together quickly yesterday.  I tried a technique I had seen on a card made by Tasnim over at Altenew to create the flower.  Her’s, admittedly, is far more spectacular but I think this creates a nice effect.  I simply used Distress Ink in Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry and Hickory Smoke on wet watercolor paper and then added more water with my Zig Water Pen to move ink a little more.  The sentiment comes from Another Thank You stamped in Basic Gray ink (SU).  Despite using my Misti to overstamp multiple times, the sentiment just would not stamp completely clean.  Ah well….that is how it goes sometimes.  I cut the panel out with my Stitched Rectangles Die (SSS) and put the image panel on a Smoky Slate base.

Hope you have a fun time with the sketch this week!  So much room for fun and interpretation!

For-Ever

For-Ever

I’m a little late with this today but I have been in full snow prep mode!  The snow started at noon and we are hunkered down for whatever comes!  My boys have promised me they will help me shovel along with their playing in the snow.  Good lads!

I have a fun little Valentine for you today using a set I used recently called Tree Hugs from Concord and 9th.  I used the retired Canvas Creations as my base and sponged on a little Crumb Cake ink to start.  I stamped the big heart, the sentiment and the little heart and added in the “birch” lines and marks using Momento Tuxedo Black ink.  A little bit of a red Copic marker for the little heart and I put it on a Real Red base.  A nice, clean and masculine Valentine!

Just a note…over the next couple of days I’m doing a little construction on the blog.  Bear with me if things seem a bit off as I get widgets and details rebuilt.  Hoping for a cleaner look that works better with devices when I’m done.

Thanks so much for stopping in today

FMS220 - Sending Hugs

Do you hear the panic in my typing??!!!!  The snow is coming, the snow is coming!!!  And apparently lots of it to Northern Virginia.  So I did what any reasonable stamper would do…..I created a happy spring card with not a snowflake in sight!  Over at Freshly Made Sketches this week we have an awesomely fun one for you to try.  It comes courtesy of the lovely Jen Brum who has clearly decided to embrace her fears as a new year’s resolution.  She notoriously does not like it when we put circles in the sketch and then she went and created this one!  Bravest woman I know, haha!

I played around with the idea of flowers and was looking through the stash when I saw this little floral spray in my Beautiful Day stamp from Altenew.  I thought it would be perfect to use in the corner and I just love how this turned out.  Using WPlus9 Black Dye Ink, I stamped the image onto Shimmery White Paper (SU) then added a couple more little flowers from the set to fill out gaps.  With my Zig Water Pen, I colored using Tim Holtz Distress Inks.  Easy and so pretty!  Then I lined up the sentiment on my Misti and stamped in the WPlus9 Ink again.  I stamped another few flowers inside the card (you can see them peeking out) and colored them up to.  Fast and oh so happy!

FMS Final 220-001I hope you enjoy this one as much as I liked making it.  Now hop right on over to the challenge and let’s see what you make of the circles!

Thanks so much for stopping in today.  Back on Friday with a fun Valentine card!  See you then!
