This is my first post of the day. I’ll be up a bit later with a card for the Newton’s Nook Designs blog and in support of Layton’s Legacy.
I do love my Wednesdays because it is Freshly Made Sketches day! And today we have a fabulous sketch by Jen Mitchell. Jen creates the most remarkable cards and also happens to be just an amazing person. No surprise that she has created a fun sketch for the week!
As soon as I saw the sketch, I knew that I was going to use my brand new Monogram J stamp from Concord and 9th. When faced with a whole alphabet of choices, I chose the J and the T. Hmmm….. I inked the J up with Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide Ink and then filled in the flowers and leaves with Fossilized Amber, Broken China and Peeled Paint Oxide Inks. I cut out the panel with the coordinating dies and then cut another panel of the same size using some Color Theory paper (SU). I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set and used the banner die from the die set to cut it out. I can’t wait to play with more color varieties and ink styles on this stamp!!
Well, since more is coming in just a bit, I’ll sign off for now. Make sure you go visit the FMS blog and I hope you will join us this week. See you soon!
I am so happy to be the sketch hostess this week over at Freshly Made Sketches! It always makes me a little nervous since we always want you to love our sketches and today I went with a bit of a classic look. I love a big oval as a place to show off images and dies. But I’m sure you will find ways to interpret this that I didn’t even consider. That always makes me happy!
I used this pretty little flower from Julie’s Roses by Winnie and Walter. I stamped in Versafine Onyx Black and then colored with Zig Clean Color Markers. After coloring the flower and the leaves, I fussy cut them out. I thought this amazing Lattice Frame Cutting Die by Taylored Expressions was the perfect way to show off the flower. So much detail but not enough to distract from the focal image. Love it! The sentiment is also from Winnie and Walter in a set called Sketchy Thoughts. I used a base of Doll Pink by Simon Says Stamp to complete the look.
Now I get to share some fun news! For the month of May, my friend Jill Hawkins will be joining us as a Guest Designer at Freshly Made Sketches. If you don’t know Jill, you should! She has the BEST sense of humor and oh by the way makes insanely great cards! We are thrilled to have her joining our happy band for the month.
Well, I hope you like the sketch and that you will have a few minutes to play along. We are full up in soccer season here at my house (JV High School for the oldest, Middle School for the youngest and club ball all around). The good news….I get to see the boys doing what they love. The bad news, less stamping. It is a worthwhile tradeoff though. Hoping to hit the stamp room later today to make some stuff to share soon. Thanks for stopping in today!
Welcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop! Our team is a group of stampers who love to make beautiful things. Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy! If you hopped over from my friend Holly Stene, welcome to the next stop. For April, we have decided to CASE the Occasions Catalog. Fun, right?
I think CASEing is always a wonderful compliment to the original designer, don’t you?! But I also think there are some nice basic “rules” that go along with it. First, whenever possible I feel it is really important to give credit to the original designer if you are posting your card or using it for a class. I know how happy it makes me to know that I have inspired someone! I also believe in honoring the work that was done by the original artist. Even clean and “simple” cards can take a long time to design because finding balance is challenging. What is simple to copy might have taken hours to get right. Second, when I am CASEing, I look to change at least three things. That way the card is true to the inspiration but still has original elements.
For today’s card, I pulled out Friendship’s Sweetest Thoughts and stamped onto Thick Whisper White with Momento Tuxedo Black ink. I really love this adorable set and have not given it nearly enough love. I colored the image using Copic Markers but you could use Stampin’ Blends too. I thought this fun dotted paper from the Tutti-frutti DSP pack was perfect as a base and then added some retired Pop of Pink DSP behind the image. The sentiment comes from the stamp set and I attached the banner with a retired clip.
Stampin’ Up Occasions Catalog p. 41
Here is my inspiration card from the catalog. What are my three changes? Different image and coloring medium, change of designer papers, change of accessory on the banner. So while my card is clearly a CASE, it has a fresh and original feel to it. I wish I knew which of the Concept Artists at Stampin’ Up actually designed this card but it is just fabulous!!
I am thrilled to be joining my Fancy Friends this month. It has been a while and I missed hopping with them. Next up is the incredible Jennifer Picard. I know you will love what she is sharing today!! Thank you for stopping in. Hope to see you again soon!

I’ve been catching up after all the posts last week. Hope you have been having a nice few days! I have been working…I consider it my quest to fly around the country looking for spring. I have found a few glimpses. I don’t mean to seem obsessed but seriously, it is time for spring to arrive and stay! We have a great sketch this week at Freshly Made Sketches from the lovely Amy O’Neill. I love all the options!
I started with this gorgeous sentiment pairing from the Hello Lovely stamp set (Concord and 9th). I stamped it in Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I chose the little cherry blossom style flowers from the Beautiful Branches stamp set (Concord and 9th) and stamped them using Altenew’s Coral Berry Ink. Then I heat embossed with clear powder. I added the stamens of the flowers in black in and heat embossed with clear again. The flowers are a bit bolder than what I had in mind to start (my tree had pretty pale pink flowers) but I was happy with the colors once I was done. I found some retired card stock to match the ink for the sketch panel behind the images.
I’m also entering this in the Where Creativity Meets C9 challenge. So glad you stopped in today. The team at FMS has created such fun interpretations of the sketch. Also, make sure you say a special thank you to Tracey McNeely for being an awesome guest!

Welcome to the last day of the April Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. This has been an amazing month and we are finishing off with style!! Two, yes two, more stamp sets to show you today. Woohoo!! Both of these are just what you need to bring a little spring sunshine into your craft room!
First up is Little Lilies. I love these sweet little flowers so much and literally ran right down to stamp with it when it arrived on my doorstep. I colored the flower with my Zig Clean Color Markers and then cut it out with the coordinating dies.
I added just a little touch of light gray and green on the ends of the flowers to give a little dimension to the white flowers. Onto a base of Bristol Smooth paper, I swirled on a little bit of Distress Ink and sprinkled it with water. I am a big fan of a “just because” card since I can use them for so many things so I chose it for my sentiment. The flower went perfectly with this little scalloped circle frame so I added that and then the flower on top. I dug through and found a few sequins to finish the card.
The second set for today is called April Showers. I have to tell you, I am SERIOUSLY hoping this sentiment is true!! I am done with winter weather and really ready for some flowers and butterflies! I used a yellow embossing powder on vellum for the sentiment and then cut it out with a banner die. I pulled out my trusty sewing machine (see, mom, I still know how to use it!!) and stitched the banner onto some Wood Textures paper. It is a little hard to see in the big picture so I’m giving you a close up of the little beads that I attached to the centers of the flowers and onto the banner. I used the Multi-Medium Matte Glue for those. There are additional images that are super cute that go with the sentiment and I’m sure the DT has some great examples with those.
I hope that you have enjoyed all of my cards this week. I very much enjoy hearing from you in the comments and your kind words always bring a smile. Thanks for letting me be a part of your day! Now for your chance to win!!

Welcome to day 3 of the April Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. I hope you are having fun with the reveals so far. Today, we have an absolutely darling set that is super clever and sure to bring a smile. It is called Umbrella Pals.
So all the umbrellas in the stamp set are little critters and it is such fun to use!! I thought these two bears worked great together! I colored them with my Zig Clean Color markers and then created the background with the markers too. To do that, I scribbled some of the ink on a clear blog and spritzed with a bit of water, the put the block on my paper. I did this a few times to get the layered look on the background.
I thought it would be fun to add a bit of sunshine under the umbrella with the yellow as a nod to the sentiment. As an additional bit of brightness, I put the colored layer onto a yellow base so that the recipient gets that extra surprise of color when they open the card. I thought a few clear drops would be appropriate for the gray section able the umbrellas.
I hope you enjoy today’s card and I know you will love the DT’s projects. Now for your chance to win!!

(Note: This is my first post of the day. If you are looking for the Newton’s Nook Designs Release day 3 post, you can find it HERE.)It is a busy week and I have two cards for today. First up is this one for Freshly Made Sketches. Narelle Farrugia is our sketch hostess this week and she created a sketch that I fell instantly in love with! Per the usual, when I saw the circles I thought flowers. After seeing the Where Creativity Meets C9 theme for this month, I knew it flowers were meant to be. So I grabbed these amazing Concord and 9th flowers from the Posie Fill-In set that worked perfectly!
I stamped the outlines with Momento Tuxedo Black ink first. Then I used the fill in stamps with Lawn Fawn ink in Cilantro (the leaves), Raspberry and Sugar Plum. I added the flower centers and then cut out all the images using the coordinating dies. The sentiment comes from the same set…perfect for “just because” cards. I used a Wonky Stitches Rectangle to add a bit more detail to the card.
Hope you like this sketch and will have some time to play along. As always, the design team has fantastic inspiration for you. Back in a few with today’s reveal from Newton’s Nook Designs.

Welcome back for day 2 of the April Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. Today we have a wonderfully elegant set that is perfect for another fixture of spring…weddings. It is called Wedding Frills and it is gorgeous. As if that were not enough, we are showcasing a new stencil called Floral Lace as well.
When I saw these gorgeous images, I immediately wanted to make them look like lace on a wedding dress. Something about embossing white on kraft colored card stock does that! I cut the image layer with the Frames and Flags Dies and then stamped the big flower and sentiment with Versamark Ink (I did this in steps to avoid causing smudges with the Versamark). Using Wow! Bright White Embossing Powder, I heat embossed. Then I stamped a few of the little flowers and did the same. Using the coordinating Wedding Frills dies, I cut those out and popped them up. Finally I added some pearls to go with my wedding flowers. I love the elegant feel of this card!
For my second card I wanted something with a more spring-like feel. I cannot even tell you how awesome this stencil is to use! I taped it onto some Bristol Smooth card stock and then sponged on Distress Inks to highlight the flowers and leaves. I sponged a little bit more of the paper and then cut out my sentiment letters with the new Essential Alphabet Dies. I just used a bit of foam tape to pop them up and make them stand out more. Think of all the color combinations you can try! I can’t wait to make more of them.
I hope you enjoy these! What a day 2!! I know you have lots of hopping to do so off to visit the rest of the team for you. But first….a chance to win!!

Welcome to day 1 of the April Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. We have another exciting week in store for you and we have spring on the mind! Today, Newton starts us off with Newton’s Graduation (and, of course, the coordinating dies) along with a new stand alone die set called Essential Alphabet.
It is time to start thinking about the end of the school year (where has it gone?!!) and I know there will be some important graduations coming for many of you. This adorable Newton is great for those but also can multitask to cheer someone on for other big life events. I have just the person in mind for this one…she just started a new job and I’m excited for the possibilities!
I stamped Newton onto Fabriano Watercolor Paper and then colored with Daniel Smith paints. After coloring, I was inspired by the globe colors and went digging around into my papers to see what I could find. Sure enough, this retired set from Stampin’ up was perfect to use! Using the sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch #267 which seemed great for showing off our kitty friend. And oh, this sentiment…isn’t it great?!
Our second reveal for the day is an alphabet die set that is a must have! The style of the letters fits almost any card type you could need to make. I will show it to you on a card tomorrow but I know some of the team will have great inspiration today. Make sure to hop through and enjoy the projects! Now on to everyone’s favorite part of release week. A chance to win!!

Happy Saturday to you! I’ve been busy creating for next week’s Newton’s Nook Designs April Release (starts on Monday) but I wanted to quickly share this card that I made for a friend.
I got this sweet rainbow image in a set called Dream On (Pinkfresh Studio) at Stamping Away. Isn’t it darling? I thought it would be fun to use repeat stamping and then color a few. I used Copics to shade the rainbows in some bright, happy colors. Little images are perfect for this technique!! I found some coordinating sequins to add a little more color and then popped up the layer on a dark blue card base. I hope it will bring some joy to the recipient! Well, off to some more soccer….all soccer, all the time around here! Hope the day is great. See you Monday!
Supplies (affiliate links included):
Stamp: Dream On (Pinkfresh Studio), Fancy Feathers (Lil’ Inker Designs); Paper: Thick Whisper White (SU), Midnight Muse (SU retired); Ink: Momento Tuxedo Black, Copic Markers; Accessories: Misti, Big Shot, Stitched Rectangles Dies (Simon Says Stamp), Dimensionals, Mini Dimensionals, Sequins
