Freshly Made Sketches #374

So you need a new sketch idea?  Something you haven’t seen before?  Have I got something for you!  This week’s sketch at Freshly Made Sketches from the former circle-phobe Jen Brum is amazing.  Not gonna lie, when she first showed me the sketch, I thought she was kidding since we have a long running team joke about her lack of love for circles in sketches.  Well, she has clearly embraced Team Circle and the sketch is fabulous!

FMS374 by Jen Timko | Monogram J Stamp and Monogram Dies by Concord and 9th, Posie Fill-In Dies by Concord and 9th, Daniel Smith WatercolorsAs per usual, my first thought when I see circles is a flower.  But will all the circles, I needed to stretch a little.  So instead, I thought about die cuts and different elements I could use.  As I went through my stash, I came upon two set by Concord and 9th and knew exactly what to do.

First I took my Daniel Smith watercolors and painted some random splotches on watercolor paper.   After they were dry, I piled on the dies from both the Monogram and Posie Fill In sets.  The dies coordinate well so I just cut things in multiple colors to see what would work.  I mixed and matched and played with a few backgrounds until I settle on a watercolor wash.  To help follow the sketch a bit more, I added some Clear Drops from Studio Katia.  The sentiment comes from the Monogram J set.

I’m so impressed with the variations on this sketch by the team.  I think this week is going to be particularly fun and that there will be loads of creativity on display.  I hope you’ll play along!  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #370

I am so happy to share the latest from Freshly Made Sketches today!  I am the sketch hostess this week and I hope you will enjoy this one.  As I pondered what to do, I thought about a “one layer” look for the sketch.  This is what I came up with.  In fairness, my final card isn’t really one layer but I hope that means there are lots of ways to create with it.

FMS370 by Jen Timko | Posie Fill In Stamps and Dies by Concord and 9thI scoured around my stamps to figure out what I wanted for the groupings and came across this pretty Posie Fill In from Concord and 9th.  And then I realized that the coordinating dies were PERFECT for the sketch.  The big sentiment in the middle is from that!  So I stamped the flowers in shades of aqua (Mermaid and Peacock by Lawn Fawn) and then stamped the outlines in black.  The flowers are easily cut out with the coordinating dies.  I cut the sentiment from white card stock and then layered on the flowers alternating the heights with regular adhesive and foam tape.  Then using my paper cutter, I trimmed off the edges of the flowers to make them flush.  Using more foam tape, I popped the stamped image up on an aqua card base (Bermuda Bay by Stampin’ Up).  I added the letter “middles” from the R and the D on more foam tape and that was it.

Something about these colors really made me happy when I was creating it.  While I’m content with some winter weather that still may be due, the fresh spring look of this appealed to me.  I hope that you will have some time to play along this week.  The team has outdone themselves and I hope you enjoy their creations too.  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  I’ll be back to crafting tomorrow as the Picket Fence Studios team is preparing for the CHA (Creativation) release later this month.  You will be blown away!!  I’ll try to sneak in something just for fun to share sooner though.  Until then, have a great rest of your week.

FMS338 by Jen Timko | Layering Leaves Dies by Concord and 9th, Posie Fill In Dies by Concord and 9th, Shaker Card, Sparkling Clear Sequins by Pretty Pink PoshHappy Freshly Made Sketches day!  I have been running around getting end of school year things done but I was happy to take a break and enjoy this fun sketch by the lovely Kim Singdahlsen.  The trio is going to help inspire some great cards this week!

For me, I knew I wanted to use this long leaf die (Layering Leaves) by Concord and 9th.  It is perfect, don’t you think?  I also just got the pack of new colors from Stampin’ Up (they are doing a whole color revamp and the new colors are fresh and fun!).  I chose Gray Granite for the card.  It is less steely and blue than Smokey Slate and it has moved right to the top of my favorite neutral colors.  I cut the leaves out and then created a shaker card.  I put the acetate behind the cut outs, then glued the die cuts back on top of the acetate piece.  Sparkling Clear Sequins are the perfect filler for the windows (I did debate a bright color but settled on the shimmer of these).  For my sentiment panel in the sketch, I used the die cut FRIEND from the Posie Fill In Die set cut from Thick Whisper White.  After cutting them out, I laid them back in the negative and added the foam tape behind the letters.  Then just attacked it to the card that way.  Helped keep the word all lined up.  Nice and clean and even ok for a masculine card.  Always need some of those in my stash!

I hope you are having a great week.  Back to crafting today.  Working to get ahead for some fun things coming up.  Until next time, make sure you pop over to visit the design team’s work.  Amazing as always!  Thanks for stopping in.  See you soon!

(Note:  This is my first post of the day.  If you are looking for the Newton’s Nook Designs Release day 3 post, you can find it HERE.)FMS333 by Jen Timko | Posie Fill-In Stamp and Dies by Concord and 9th, Wonky Stitched Rectangles Die by MFT StampsIt is a busy week and I have two cards for today.  First up is this one for Freshly Made Sketches.  Narelle Farrugia is our sketch hostess this week and she created a sketch that I fell instantly in love with!  Per the usual, when I saw the circles I thought flowers.  After seeing the Where Creativity Meets C9 theme for this month, I knew it flowers were meant to be.  So I grabbed these amazing Concord and 9th flowers from the Posie Fill-In set that worked perfectly!

I stamped the outlines with Momento Tuxedo Black ink first.  Then I used the fill in stamps with Lawn Fawn ink in Cilantro (the leaves), Raspberry and Sugar Plum.  I added the flower centers and then cut out all the images using the coordinating dies.  The sentiment comes from the same set…perfect for “just because” cards.  I used a Wonky Stitches Rectangle to add a bit more detail to the card.

Hope you like this sketch and will have some time to play along.  As always, the design team has fantastic inspiration for you.  Back in a few with today’s reveal from Newton’s Nook Designs.
