Newton’s Nook Designs 4 Year Celebration – Day 1

Newton’s Nook Designs 4 Year Celebration – Day 1 published on 40 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs 4 Year Celebration – Day 1

I am so thrilled to begin this amazing week celebrating 4 years of inspiration from Newton’s Nook Designs.  What it takes to make the leap of faith to start your own company always amazes me but wow am I glad Newton’s Nook Designs is a part of this amazing industry!  I might be a little biased but any time art can bring such smiles and joy, it is a wonderful thing and something to celebrate.  And celebrate is what we are doing this week!  My post today is longer than normal because we are revealing an incredible set of products.  Two (yep TWO) stamp sets, four (oh yeah…FOUR) stencils and a new border dies set.  And that is only today’s reveal.  Hang on my friends!  This is going to be fun!

Meet Me At The Lake by Jen Timko | Winston's Lake House Stamps and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Tim Holtz Distress Inks, Watercolor

I’m going to start you off with a fun stamp set called Winston’s Lake House.  Using Distress Ink in Broken China, I played with the “smoosh” technique for watercoloring.  I applied ink to an acetate sheet and then spritzed it with water.  Then I laid the acetate down onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper to get the cool water effect.  I love how it turned out!!  The way the color pools was perfect to created the dimension I wanted for the lake.  After letting it dry, I used the new Sea Borders Dies (combined with a Stitched Rectangles Die) to created the waves for our little friends.  All I had to do was offset the border die to get this look.  Fun, right??  I did the same thing with Peeled Paint ink for the ground and used the Land Borders Dies instead.  Yep…all the dies coordinate perfectly.  Then I stamped the images in Versafine Onyx Black and colored with more Distress Ink.  That little cottage is one I want to visit for sure!  And not sure what it is about the little dragonfly but I just could not resist adding it on.  The corrugated paper seemed like the perfect background for this scene to show off all the details in these new images and dies.Advice from the Lake by Jen Timko | Lake Advice Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Wood Textures DSP by Stampin' UpSo now on to the second stamp set called Lake Advice.  I had a ton of ideas on how to use this with the Winston set but I thought maybe it was better just to focus on this sentiment.  It is really a great one!  I stamped it onto vellum using Early Espresso ink (SU) and then heat embossed it with clear embossing powder to make it really stand out.  Then I took a piece of the Wood Textures DSP from SU (already a fabulous wooden look) and cut it up to make it look like planks on a palette.  I used a darker color of the same DSP for the base.

And now we get to talk about these stencils.  You should have seen the response when the DT heard about them.  And then again when we saw them!!!  Oh, they are fun and so perfect for the release.  Want to see them???  Of course you do!  I will be showing you more with them as the week goes on too.  And then check out what you could win this week!

Freshly Made Sketches #295

Freshly Made Sketches #295 published on 7 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #295

FMS295 by Jen Timko | Quirky Critters Stamp Set by Stampin' Up, Copic ColoringSo remember in my post last Friday (for Fancy Friday) where I talked about some of my favorite things from the new Stampin’ Up catalog??  Well, yesterday I showed you a bit of why I love the Color Theory paper and today I’ve got the narwhal!!  I love him!!  The incredibly talented Narelle Farrugia is our sketch hostess this week at Freshly Made Sketches and I thought her sketch this week gave me the perfect chance to show you this fellow.

He comes from the stamp set called Quirky Critters and actually has a sentiment attached to him.  I could not seem to make the sentiment work for the sketch but I really wanted to use him.  So….I just cut him out by hand and added another sentiment from Newton’s Nook instead (Beautiful Plumage).  I think this one is super fun and perfect for this guy.  I stamped the narwhal using Momento Tuxedo Black ink and colored him with Copic Markers.  He seemed to fit better on a little square than a circle so I hope Narelle doesn’t mind the switch.  For the horizontal element I tried something new.  A few weeks ago, my mom was here to visit.  She is an amazing quilter and believes in supporting local quilt shops wherever she travels.  Hmmm….that may explain where I get that from! As we were looking around (and the shop here in Warrenton is called Kelly Ann’s Quilting…a gorgeous shop!), I was falling in love with all the prints and patterns, wishing they were all paper.  Then I spied this tiny rickrack trim (in multiple colors no less!).  Needless to say, I grabbed it right up.  Isn’t it fun???  Ok, well, I’m completely off track for my post but seriously, shops like that are so inspirational!  Since this rickrack matched the narwhal perfectly, it was clearly meant to be.  I match the bling elements of the sketch, I added some Sparkling Clear sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.  They are clear but have a bit of gray tint to them so I love them on cards with gray.

Well, I hope you love this little guy as much as I do.  Not sure why, but he really does crack me up.  I showed the card to my husband and he said it was just like the narwhal from the movie Elf.  So on that note….”Bye Buddy”! Thanks for stopping in today!  Hope your week is great!

Lovely Yellow Blooms

Lovely Yellow Blooms by Jen Timko | Lovely Blooms Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Chameleon Pens, Color Theory DSP by Stampin' UpToday is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog and I just had to continue with making pretty summer cards with this Lovely Blooms stamp set.  This flower set really is awesome for coloring!

Is there such thing as a yellow hydrangea??  I’m not sure but I created one in any case.  Using my Chameleon pens, I colored the flowers and the leaves to coordinate with this new Color Theory DSP from Stampin’ Up.  I LOVE this paper!  It is the perfect background for almost any image but it really shows off this flower.  The sentiment is a go-to for me lately and it comes from the Happy Little Thoughts stamp set (NND).  I colored some Basic Pearls with the Olive Chameleon pen and added those fora little more detail.  The whole image panel is on a Crushed Curry card base.

For those of you in the US, I hope you have a wonderful and safe 4th of July!!  So glad you stopped in today.  See you tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches!

Stamp: Lovely Blooms (Newton’s Nook Designs); Ink:  Momento Tuxedo Black, Chameleon Pens (Y03 Warm Sunset, OL3 Olive Green); Paper:  Thick Whisper White (SU), Color Theory DSP (SU), Crushed Curry; Accessories:  Big Shot, Lovely Blooms Dies (Newton’s Nook Designs), Misti, Basic Pearls

Fancy Friday – A Fancy Top 5

Fancy Friday – A Fancy Top 5 published on 2 Comments on Fancy Friday – A Fancy Top 5

Welcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop!  Our team is a group of stampers who love to make beautiful things.  Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy!  If you hopped over from Paula Dobson, welcome to the next stop.  For June we are sharing our personal “Top 5” lists from the new 2017-18 Stampin’ Up Catalog.  Choosing 5…that was the hard part for sure!

Fancy Friday - Hello by Jen Timko | Floral Statements Stamp Set by Stampin' Up, Watercolor, Zig Clean Color MarkersI managed to combine 3 of my top choices onto this one card to show you why I love them so much.  This new Floral Statements stamp set was an absolute must buy for me and I ordered it immediately.  I’m so glad I did!  Isn’t it gorgeous??!!  I stamped it in black onto watercolor paper and then colored it.  Super fast watercoloring!  But the result is fabulous!  I put it onto a base of the new Lemon Lime Twist card stock and I love the pop of color.  And as an accent to the pink, I added the new sequins.  These are the Iridescent color from the Metallics Sequins Assortment.  Oh my, these are a wow!

To round out my choices, I just have to discuss the new Color Theory DSP.  This paper pack will be a go-to for so many of your cards!  The colors and the unique uses of the shades is perfect for so many projects.  And last (but not least)….the narwhal set (otherwise known as Quirky Critters).  I have no reasonable explanation of why I am obsessed with this set but I am.  Totally fun, totally adorable…and just a little quirky!

So here it is in list form:

  1. Floral Statements Stamp Set
  2. Lemon Lime Twist (in EVERYTHING)…and the other In Colors are fabulous too!
  3. Sequins – Metallics, Iridescent, all of them!
  4. Color Theory DSP
  5. Quirky Critters Stamp Set

I hope you like my take on the top 5.  Now on to the rest of the hop!  These talented stampers are going to inspire you for sure and I cannot wait to see what they enable me to buy share as their must haves!  Next up is the lovely Shannon Lane.

Freshly Made Sketches #293

FMS293 by Jen Timko | Color Theory DSP by Stampin' UpWhere did the week go??  Wow, it is already Wednesday!!  And what a sketch we have for you today. The amazing and oh so talented Karren Johnson is our sketch hostess this week at Freshly Made Sketches and she created a really clever one for us this week.

I opted to show off this gorgeous new DSP from Stampin’ Up called Color Theory.  There are tone on tone variations that are simply fabulous.  This one is an ombré effect that I just love.  I not only cut out the shaped panel with it but I used the bottom piece that I cut off (for size) for the die cut word.  I LOVE when paper does all the work for you!  This fun edge is cut using the Border Builders Dies from Lil’ Inker Designs.  The sentiment is a retired SU die.  Just a few sequins added for that extra dimension.  My husband needed a thank you and I think this is the perfect masculine card for him to send.  I struggle with that sometimes but I think this one is just right.

The team has such a variety of cards this week and that is always a great indicator of a fun gallery.  I cannot wait to see all that you create!  I hope you have a super rest of your week.  Thanks for stopping in!

Supplies:

Paper:  Color Theory DSP (SU), Thick Whisper White (SU); Accessories:  Big Shot, Border Builder Dies (Lil’ Inker Designs), Greetings Thinlits (SU retired), Sparkling Clear Sequins (Pretty Pink Posh)

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Newton Rides West

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Newton Rides West published on 30 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Newton Rides West

Today is last day of the June release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  I have to say, this one has been quite amazing (by the already high standards of previous releases).  I’m simply in awe of the creativity of design and the ability of these sets to appeal to so many.  I know, I know…I’m gushing…but really….based on the lovely comments I have received this week (for which I’m incredibly grateful), you agree with me!  So now, onto the last set.  Our week would not be complete without our friend Newton, now would it?!

Howdy by Jen Timko | Newton Rides West Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic ColoringOur little buddy gets to go on an adventure and the team gets to have some fun with this western theme!  The hardest part of the card??  Choosing which image to color first!  There are so many great choices…and take note of the little mustache.  I mean, seriously!!  So much fun (my oldest told me that all the Newtons need a mustache from now on, haha).  I pulled out my Copics and got to work coloring.  Something about him popping out of the boot just cracks me up.  After I had him colored, I wanted to continue the western theme with the elements of the card.  I used this brand new designer paper from Stampin’ Up called Wood Textures.  The whole pack of 6″x6″ paper is full of wood prints in different colors.  I added a bit of burlap ribbon on the edge and some twine under the sentiment panel.  The wood paper is simply perfect for showing off Newton!  I know you will love all the other designers’ work so off you go with the hop.  But before you go….make sure to be eligible to win the sets from this week by commenting on the team’s pages.

I colored these adorable images using my Chameleon Pens.  These are such fun to color!!!  I sponged some stitched circles with Distress Ink in the coordinating colors and they are perfect to show off these fun image, don’t you think?!  I stamped the “caution” sentiment to follow the sketch and then put the actual caution inside the card.  *smile*Super cute, right??  All of you coffee fans will totally need this one.  Not sure how to take it but my boys commented about this being perfect for me when I showed them the card.  Hmmmm…..

Stuck on You by Jen Timko | Cultivated Cacti Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsThis second card used the Cultivated Cacti set and I had such fun with it.  I love that you can stamp quickly with solid image stamps and get such a cute little scene!  I did a mix and match of inks and colors to created my scene.  And oh, this sentiment (and the others in the set)….such fun little puns!  While I think these are hard cards to make, having a stamp that says exactly what you need it to is invaluable.  And, you can get the set for free!

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Furr-Ever Friends

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Furr-Ever Friends published on 42 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Furr-Ever Friends

Today is Day 2 of the release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Our reveal today is a set that anyone owned by a pet will appreciate.Forever In Our Hearts by Jen Timko | Furr-Ever Friends by Newton's Nook DesignsThe set is called Furr-Ever Friends and it is one that made me happy and nostalgic all at the same time.  The sentiments in this set are really simply perfect to reflect how so many of us feel about our dear furry family members.

After debating how to show this set, I opted for simple.  Because when someone loses one of their dear friends, I feel like simply is best.  I created a watercolor wash with my Winsor and Newton paints and then added the black silhouette of the kitty.  This reminds me of my old friend Pito who was a part of my life for 19-1/2 years (I’ll confess his silhouette was a little “stouter”, lol).  He was a solid black kitty and one of the most special friends…I was his human and he will always be a part of me.  So I chose this sentiment which says exactly how I still feel about him.  While I think these are hard cards to make, having a stamp that says exactly what you need it to is invaluable.  And, you can get the set for free!

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Terrific Terriers

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Terrific Terriers published on 34 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Terrific Terriers

It is that wonderful time of the month when we get a new release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  This week’s release is absolutely full of fun and we get to start this week with some sweet terriers.

Pawsome by Jen Timko | Terrific Terriers Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsThe set is called Terrific Terriers to be exact and I know so many people with dogs that will be thrilled to see their friends in a stamp.  Isn’t his face just adorable??

I started with a sketch from CASe this Sketch and used the paw print from this set and one from another upcoming set (consider this a sneak peek) to create the vertical element for the sketch.  This is super easy with a Misti to make sure the alignment is perfect.  Then I colored my terrier with Zig gray markers.  My neighbor has the sweetest little boy who has some terrier in him (and maybe some other breeds too) so Murray was my inspiration for this card.  And oh, that sentiment.  I just love this one to go with all my Newtons!  As you hop along, just remember that you can get the set for free!

Freshly Made Sketches #291

Freshly Made Sketches #291 published on 6 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #291

FMS291 by Jen Timko | Butterfly Kisses by Mama Elephant, Thank You by Studio KatiaI hope your week has been wonderful and full of summer fun!  We are still finishing up some school things with one of my sons so it doesn’t quite feel like summer yet…but soon!  Just a few more days!  And that anticipation was definitely on my mind as I worked on this card for today.  Our hostess, the wonderful Jennifer Brum, has created a wonderful sketch for us at Freshly Made Sketches this week.

I started with this pretty little butterfly from Mama Elephant and did a quick coloring with Ripe Persimmon Distress Ink.  I love butterflies and I’m finally started to see some around here.  Always makes me happy!  I created a watercolor background using a couple of yellow Distress Inks and the “smoosh” technique (apply the ink to acetate, spritz and ink the paper).  I this the two tones of yellow add a nice contrast.  This gorgeous sentiment comes from Studio Katia and it was an extra treat in our supplies that came for last week’s collaboration hop with Newton’s Nook Designs and Studio Katia.  LOVE this scripty font, don’t you?!  I thought a couple of the Clear Round Drops from Studio Katia to finish.  Quick and easy and perfect for summer (and it let me get back outside on a beautiful day)!

I hope you have fun with this sketch.  You can use designer paper, background stamps or keep it simple like it did.  Tons of ways to use this one!  The DT has shown you that, as always.  Love those gals!  I hope your week has time for some crafty fun.  Until next time, thanks for stopping in!
