Freshly Made Sketches #260

Freshly Made Sketches #260 published on 6 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #260

Jen Timko - FMS260The lovely and super talented Kim Singdahlsen is our sketch hostess this week at Freshly Made Sketches and she really created a unique one.  Super interesting and so many ways to play with the idea!

After pondering the “any shape” feature for a while, I thought I would see if these leaves from Concord and 9th would be right.  Yep!  Totally!!  I colored with Tim Holtz Distress Ink onto watercolor paper and then cut the leaves out.  It gives them a soft, varied look in person!  I first started using Kraft and then white but finally realized that this DSP pack (retired from SU) was the PERFECT answer.  Don’t forget to look in your stash (because I know you have one) for those hidden gems that you have forgotten after the season changed.  I love the plaid for fall and the pretty polka dots were a great background for the sentiment.  This script/type combination is from Mama Elephant’s Butterfly Kisses set.  I stamped in Early Espresso using my Misti to get a super crisp and clean look.  I played with the placement of the leaves and found that this little button provided the right balance.  See…you are going to have fun playing with this one!!

I hope you enjoy this one and that you will join us this week.  I’ll be back on Friday with the latest from the Fancy Friday team.  Lots of fun on that one that you won’t want to miss.  Until then, have a great week!

Strength & Prayers

Strength & Prayers published on 3 Comments on Strength & Prayers

Jen Timko - Strength & PrayersBecause I had some time to stamp last week and I needed a card for a friend, it seemed like the perfect time to pull out this gorgeous stamp set from Stampin’ Up.  I think the art on this bird is stunning!!!  The best part of this set??  Less is more.  (I know it shocks you to hear that I’d be drawn to a set like that, haha!)  I stamped the image and the sentiment onto watercolor paper using WPlus9 Black Dye Ink.  Then using a Zig Clean Color Pen in Light Blue I added in a bit of color to the bird.  And a few sequins (some hoarded ones that I LOVE) from the Watercolor Wishes kit that matched perfectly just had to go on too.  I put it on a Soft Sky base and cut the inside sentiment panel to match the layout of the front.

I rarely see a set that simply goes into my shopping cart without question and this was one.  The set of 3 is perfect for sympathy cards but also for inspiration.  Ok…quick post for today.  Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  Until then, have a great day!

The Card Concept #60

Jen Timko - CC60 - GratefulIt is a double post Wednesday!!  Yippee!  My second of the day is my card for The Card Concept.  We have a beautiful inspiration picture and you are going to have loads of ideas from it.  As I was looking through my stash, I realized I was woefully low on pumpkin stamps (seriously??!!).  But I had kept this one from a few years ago because it is always fun to color.

I stamped it in WPlus9 Black ink and colored the image with my Zig Clean Color Pens.  The best part about saving great images is that you get to re-visit them later when you have different supplies.  Coloring this one with the Zigs made me so happy.  I’m not totally sure I hit the mark with Clean and Graphic this week but in an attempt to keep it there, I simply added the sentiment from the set and kept the rest clean.  The chevron paper is from the old Sweater Weather DSP (ret) that gives a nod to the inspiration.  I was also inspired by Ceal’s challenge for Falliday Fest at Splitcoaststampers, FF16Simplybeautiful, which is a Colors of Fall challenge.  There are a lot of great ones to join in so go check them out!

60I hope you will have fun joining us this week at The Card Concept.  Remember that my Freshly Made Sketches post went up earlier so go check that one out too.  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  See you soon!

Jen Timko - FMS259Happy middle of the week to you!  Today is one of my double post days so make sure you keep an eye out for my card for The Card Concept too.  For Freshly Made Sketches, our sketch hostess this week is the witty and talented Linda Callahan.  I just love the interesting layers behind the circle for the sketch.  Such a simple detail but fantastic.

I pulled out (again) my new Merry Tags dies and the coordinating Merriest Wishes stamp set.  I used Thick Whisper White and Silver Glimmer Paper with the dies.  So nice that there is a plain ornament that is designed to go behind the detailed ornament.  Super easy to put together.  I cut the panels behind in the same glimmer paper and added some Silver Baker’s Twine to finish the little tag.  Pretty and super fast to put together.  The sentiment is stamped in Versamark ink and embossed with Silver Stampin Emboss Powder.  I was also inspired by the Falliday Fest challenge over at Splitcoaststampers, FF16Stampingcrazy, which is Snow Much Glitter!  Hope you will find a challenge that inspires you and join in!!

fms-final-259-001I hope you enjoy this card.  I am starting to make a little progress in my holiday card stash but a long way to go.  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  See you soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #258

Freshly Made Sketches #258 published on 8 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #258

fms258-merry-everythingAre you ready for Freshly Made Sketches this week??  I know I certainly was!  Totally needed something to kick my mojo in gear!!  I’m not sure why exactly but the last few weeks have been a scheduling mess at my house and my stamps sat collecting dust.  It was good to sit down yesterday with a sketch and see what happened.  The amazing Rita gave us some layers this week but not too many.  Just enough to make it interesting!

The only thing I knew when I sat down was that I wanted to use the “negative” of the Merry Tags dies and this tree in particular.  The actual die is an ornament with the tree cut from the middle (totally awesome tag!).  So I ran the die through with some Bermuda Bay card stock.  Once it was cut, I put the little pieces back into the ornament and covered the whole front with Glad Press and Seal (Just a small square).  This effectively holds the little pieced in place so you can flip it over and add glue without all the little pieces running away on you.  (No, I’m totally not the first person to come up with this.  First saw it from Jennifer McGuire but others have shown it perfectly too.)  I added my adhesive to the back of the tree elements the then put the whole thing down onto Thick Whisper White card stock.  Then just pull away the Press and Seal and the ornament piece and you are left with the tree perfectly placed.  YAY!!!!  Then I pulled out some retired stuff because seriously, I need to use it!!  The sentiment is from the Jingle All The Way stamp set (retired, last year’s Holiday Catty).  I just straightened it a bit before stamping to make it work for the sketch.  The Real Red striped DSP and the button are from previous holiday offerings as well.  They just all seemed to work together for this!

fms-final-258-001I am happy to say that I’m off this week from work so I really, really hope to get in some more stamping.  I have some more ideas for this fabulous die set (and matching stamp) so that is a good start.  Until then, off you go to join the FMS team on this sketch.  You will love their never-ending creativity and I think you will have fun with this one.  See you soon.  Thanks so much for dropping in!!

The Card Concept #59

Jen Timko - CC59It is time for a new challenge at The Card Concept and I’m so excited to share my Clean and Graphic card.  Our inspiration this week is such fun and I was thought I would use the colors to create my card.

I thought the flower from You Are Enough (Concord and 9th) would be perfect for playing with color.  I stamped on Fabriano Watercolor Paper using WPlus9 Black Ink.  Then I colored using two of Stampin’ Up’s In Colors, Flirty Flamingo and Sweet Sugarplum.  I added a little Tip Top Taupe (mostly because I love the name, haha) to mimic the neutral of the ice cream cone in the photo.  I added a sentiment from Lovely (Essentials by Ellen) and some sequins from an old Paper Pumpkin kit.  I put the watercolor panel on a Flirty Flamingo card base.Jen Timko - CC59 - Closeup

Here is a closeup of how the colors blended.  So pretty together!  I kept going back in layers to get the variations.  This is one of the best things about watercoloring for me.  You never quite know how colors will blend and each time you create, the result will be different.  I was totally right about this flower being the perfect image!!

The challenge page has so many beautiful pieces by the design team in all the different styles.  You are going to be in awe!  Just a note, this is my second post for the day.  My Freshly Made Sketches post was up first.  I hope you like my two projects today.  Looking forward to seeing you again soon!

fms257-season-of-joySo we have some fun news over at Freshly Made Sketches.  First, we can announce that the lovely Cécile Ribon will be joining us full time Design Team member.  YAY for us!!!  Also, we introduced an update to the blog.  We hope you like our, um, “fresh” new look!  Let us know what you think.  We have a great sketch from the amazing Jen Mitchell.

I decided I better get a little more serious about Christmas cards so I pulled out one of my go to sets, Holly Jolly Greetings.  This big snowflake is so pretty and was perfect for the focal element.  And the sentiments in the set (the reason I got it, of course) are awesome.  I know it is easy to get all caught up in the newest, latest and greatest but sometimes it is nice to pull out a workhorse set.  I stamped in Night of Navy and paired it with Floral Boutique DSP (not just flowers!!).  I used Wonky Stitched Rectangle Dies from My Favorite Things to add the fun stitching and a few Basic Pearls.

fms-final-257-001This is my first post for today.  My second post is my card for The Card Concept.  I hope you’ll enjoy Jen’s sketch this week!  Thanks for stopping in today.

Fancy Friday – Holiday Celebration

Fancy Friday – Holiday Celebration published on 2 Comments on Fancy Friday – Holiday Celebration

ff-sep-happy-wonderful-christmasWelcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop!  Our team is a group of stampers who love to make beautiful things.  Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy!  If you hopped over from the incredible Erica, welcome to the next stop.  For September, our theme is Anything Holiday!  If it is a holiday item from the main catalog or the Holiday catalog, we are celebrating it!

I decided to stick with a set that has actually been around for a while but should not be forgotten.  The Wondrous Wreath stamp set is one I loved from the minute I saw it.  I decided to show its versatility a bit and create a card with only the wreath and the sentiment from the set.  I started with a product I just discovered but already love.  They are Strathmore Watercolor Cards and they really are fabulous.  Very much like the Stampin’ Up Note Cards except made with watercolor paper.  Makes it easy to create a one layer watercolor card and conquer that hoarding tendency that tends to show up around watercolor paper (please tell me I’m not the only one).  I stamped the wreath with Tim Holtz Distress ink in Twisted Citron and then colored in with my Aquapainter with some more Distress Ink in Mowed Lawn.  Using the same inks, I connected the leaves with hand drawn stems which makes the wreath have a subtly different look.  To keep with that watercolor feel, I did not stamp the berries from the set (but you totally could).  Instead I hand drew them in with a Zig Clean Color Pen.  Once I had this like I wanted all that was left was the sentiment.  And then I had to take a deep breath because I didn’t want to mess it up.  So out came my Misti!!  I got the sentiment exactly where I wanted and stamped in Real Red ink.  Because the watercolor paper is rough, I had to overstamp to get the sentiment fully inked.  And yes….the Misti is a total life saver for that!!!  It makes every photopolymer stamp easier to use!!  While this takes a little longer that the average “simple one layer” card, I think the result is worth it.

I think you are going to enjoy all the holiday fun from the hop this week!  This talented group never disappoints!!  You are sure to be totally wow’d by Krista at your next stop.  Have fun on the hop!

Freshly Made Sketches #256

Jen Timko - FMS256 - Be JoyfulBack today with a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches where I am the sketch hostess this week.    I was so excited to see all that the Design Team created with my sketch.  As always, such different and creative interpretations!

My focus today is on the Merriest Wishes bundle from Stampin’ Up.  I just got this last week so of course it had to come right out!!  I love the tags and details but I will admit that one of the biggest reasons I got the set was this sentiment.  I love it!!  I love how the “snow” image mimics the pattern of the Softly Falling embossing folder so I used the folder in the background and stamped the image in Versamark and then heat embossed with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  The sentiment is stamped in Night of Navy.  Then I cut the whole thing with my Banners Die.  I added a strip of Silver Glimmer Paper and some retired silver sequins for a bit of sparkle.  I can’t wait to use the tags and other elements on more projects!

I hope you have fun with my sketch this week.  I’d love to see you in the gallery!  Back on Friday with this month’s Fancy Friday Hop.  See you then!

Stamp Ink Paper #67

Stamp Ink Paper #67 published on 3 Comments on Stamp Ink Paper #67

Jen Timko - SIP#67 I cannot believe that a month has already passed and this is my last week with Stamp Ink Paper.  What fun it has been to join this talented group of stampers!  This week’s challenge is a sketch challenge.  Totally my happy place for sure!

I chose to use LOTS of white space with only this neutral flowers as the focus.  It is the Daisy stamp from Altenew and I love it layered with Altenew’s dye inks.  Their gray family is so wonderful!  I added a sentiment from Ellen Hutson’s Lovely (yes, again….) and a few Pretty Pink Posh Marshmellow Sequins from the Birthday Bling Mix.  The rest of the detail is courtesy of Simon Says Stamp’s Stitched Rectangles.  This is really, really clean but I kind of love all that white!
