Freshly Made Sketches #258

Freshly Made Sketches #258 published on 8 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #258

fms258-merry-everythingAre you ready for Freshly Made Sketches this week??  I know I certainly was!  Totally needed something to kick my mojo in gear!!  I’m not sure why exactly but the last few weeks have been a scheduling mess at my house and my stamps sat collecting dust.  It was good to sit down yesterday with a sketch and see what happened.  The amazing Rita gave us some layers this week but not too many.  Just enough to make it interesting!

The only thing I knew when I sat down was that I wanted to use the “negative” of the Merry Tags dies and this tree in particular.  The actual die is an ornament with the tree cut from the middle (totally awesome tag!).  So I ran the die through with some Bermuda Bay card stock.  Once it was cut, I put the little pieces back into the ornament and covered the whole front with Glad Press and Seal (Just a small square).  This effectively holds the little pieced in place so you can flip it over and add glue without all the little pieces running away on you.  (No, I’m totally not the first person to come up with this.  First saw it from Jennifer McGuire but others have shown it perfectly too.)  I added my adhesive to the back of the tree elements the then put the whole thing down onto Thick Whisper White card stock.  Then just pull away the Press and Seal and the ornament piece and you are left with the tree perfectly placed.  YAY!!!!  Then I pulled out some retired stuff because seriously, I need to use it!!  The sentiment is from the Jingle All The Way stamp set (retired, last year’s Holiday Catty).  I just straightened it a bit before stamping to make it work for the sketch.  The Real Red striped DSP and the button are from previous holiday offerings as well.  They just all seemed to work together for this!

fms-final-258-001I am happy to say that I’m off this week from work so I really, really hope to get in some more stamping.  I have some more ideas for this fabulous die set (and matching stamp) so that is a good start.  Until then, off you go to join the FMS team on this sketch.  You will love their never-ending creativity and I think you will have fun with this one.  See you soon.  Thanks so much for dropping in!!

FMS217 - Merry & Bright

As my kids have reminded me this morning….9 more days until Christmas!  Oh my!!  So much to do, so little time!  We have noticed over at Freshly Made Sketches that I might not be alone on this.  Seems like many of you are in the same place…I know our team feels that way.  So we have a deal for you.  Every year, the team takes a break over the holidays but we leave our sketch open during the whole period so that you can join us if you get some time to craft.  This year is no different and my friend Linda Callahan has created a sketch that is classically “FMS”.  Clean, inspiring and great for lots of interpretations.  You will love it for last minute holiday inspiration or for pulling out your new “not holiday” stamps that you have been itching to use.  Or maybe that is just me…..  Ok, yeah….it is me but maybe you too??!!  So you have lots of time to play along with this sketch.  Hope you will!

I kept this one pretty simple and kept to gold.  LOTS of gold.  The Winter Wonderland DSP was my inspiration and I used a piece in the background plus a piece (one of the stripes) for the crossing panel.  I had to pull out the snowflakes again for another go.  I have held off since I overloaded you early in the season but I just cannot stop myself from using them.  They are so amazing!!  I heat embossed this one with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  The sentiments are a combination of old and new.  ‘Merry’ comes from the old Snowflake Soiree set and the ‘& Bright’ comes from Holly Jolly Greetings.  I love them together, don’t you?!  They were stamped in Versamark and heat embossed as well.  That is it.  Easy and fast.  ‘Cause that is where I am this week.  Maybe I’ll have time for a little more complicated after Christmas!

The team has another round of beautiful inspiration for you.  Please make sure you go tell them how much you enjoy all they do each week!  When I think about all the amazing work they share over a whole year, I’m in awe.  Freshly Made Sketches is a great resource for so many stampers and we are thrilled you allow us to be a part of your crafting world!  Thanks to all of you for your support, for playing along and for sharing with us each week too!

FMS Final 217-001I’ll be back on Friday with some Fancy Friday goodness.  And yes, there are more snowflakes.  *smile*  Until then, I hope you have a wonderful week!

Holly Jolly in Silver & Gold

Holly Jolly Gold

I’m here today with two cards that are pretty much exactly the same but with a very different look.  Let’s face it, this is the time of year to work smarter not harder!  So the basics….  I stamped the awesome snowflake from Holly Jolly Greeting with Versamark and heat embossed with Gold (and Silver) Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  The image panels were cut out using the Stitched Rectangles Die (Simon Says Stamp).  Using the lovely sentiment dies from the Wonderful Wreath Framelits, I cut multiple layers from Thick Whisper White.  I then stacked them up and glued them together using the Fine Tip Glue Pen.  For the top layer, I used Watercolor Paper (Fabriano) and Silver Glimmer paper respectively.  On the watercolor paper, I colored the sentiment with Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Mowed Lawn) and an Aquapainter, dabbing some off to create an ombre look.  Once dry, I covered the sentiment with Clear Wink of Stella (coming in the new Occasions catalog!).  I added sequins onto each to add a little more shine.

Holly Jolly Silver

So there you have it!  Two versions of the same card.  Easy to duplicate and fun to make!  I think I need to make a few more!

Hope you had a great week.  Thanks for stopping in today!

Freshly Made Sketches #215

I hope your December has been good to you so far!  I am having a hard time accepting that it is already December…surely I am not alone!  I have not had a lot of crafting time over the last week but I’m hoping to get back to it today.  If you have had the same thing going on, I have just the solution for you.  This week’s sketch from Freshly Made Sketches will get you moving right along!  The incredible Jen Mitchell is our hostess this week and she has created one that is sure to inspire.

FMS215 - Beautiful Hello

I am still completely obsessed with this flower from Altenew’s Beautiful Day.  For today’s card, I stamped it onto White Vellum with Versamark Ink and embossed it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Pretty, isn’t it?!  I picked the backdrop of Winter Wonderland DSP because the prints are so subtle but yet add so much.  Using the Banners Framelits, I cut some Very Vanilla card stock and stamped the sentiment from Watercolor Wishes with Versafine Onyx Black ink.  I added a little border of Gold Foil to the DSP which coordinates nicely with the embossed flower and gives the print later a little more stability for raising it up on Dimensionals.  The center of the flower is a Basic Pearl that I colored with a Sharpie black marker.  I love how it brings your eye more to the flower!

It was nice taking a break from Christmas card stamping but I need to get back to work if I’m to get stuff mailed in time.  Please tell me I’m not the only one with lots more to stamp!!

I hope you enjoy this week’s sketch and the lovely work from our Design Team.  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  See you soon!!  Happy stamping!

Fancy Friday – Joy

Fancy Friday – Joy published on 5 Comments on Fancy Friday – Joy

I know it isn’t the last Friday of the month yet but the Fancy Friday team decided to hop a little early this month (and we will next month too) in order to get ahead for the holidays.  And you know what?!  I have some fun news.  This team of amazing designers has just added some new fanciness!!!  Many of you know that Fancy Friday developed after the 2013-14 Artisan Design Team’s tenure was up.  We enjoyed hopping together so much that we wanted to keep sharing with you once a month.  Some of our team has needed to take a hiatus so we thought we should add stampers to the team that you are sure to love!  The one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy!  If you hopped over from my dear friend Cindy, welcome to the next stop.  For November we are creating a Fancy Christmas, but with a twist.  We are using non-traditional colors and hope to inspire you to try some of them!

FF Nov - Joy

I have to say that I went pretty far out of my normal Christmas color scheme on this one but I love it so much!  I have told you many times that Holly Jolly Greetings is my favorite stamp of the Holiday Catalog.  This is totally why!  I love the snowflake (a lot) and I love the versatility of the sentiments.  And they will be great sentiments for years to come.  You see, I tend to “collect” Christmas sets.  Especially the ones with great sentiments.  They rarely leave once I have gotten them.  That also makes me picky when it comes to sets because I have so many from previous years.  But this one…..unique and flexible!  And guess what?  It is one of the continued and not retiring sets from the Holiday Catalog so I think Stampin’ Up agrees!

So how did I create this?  Using watercolor paper to start, I placed down some water on the paper.  Then using Distress Inks, I added three different colors (Spiced Marmalade, Ripe Persimmon, Picked Raspberry) to the stamp.  I spritzed the stamp with water and stamped.  I did the same with the “Joy” and then took a wet paint brush and added a little ink then splattered it.  The clear sequins are from the Metallic Sequins pack and I just love the little bit of special something they add!  The panels are cut with Stitched Rectangles Dies (SSS).  The card base is Tangerine Tango and I think it is a nice foundation for these crazy colors.  This is a fun card to make and I may play around with some other color combinations as I get more serious in my Christmas card production.

Watercolor Drummer

Watercolor Drummer

I told you a few post ago when I was coloring this adorable little drummer boy that my oldest son was a bit put out that I had made the drummer blonde like his brother.  So the other day I had some time to color while he was home.  He colored one version of himself and I colored another.  This is the one I ended up with!  I used my new Tim Holtz Distress Inks to create the background and my Zig Clean Color Markers for the images.  Super fun and pretty quick too!  I cut the image sheet with my Stitched Rectangles from Simon Says Stamps (I’m addicted to these dies) and then embossed the base (Night of Navy) with the Softly Falling Embossing Folder.  My oldest gave it his thumbs up of approval!!

Quick post…still recovering from the 3 days of simulator madness.  Fortunately it all went well and I’m good to go for another 9 months.  Back next week with some more fun.  Until then, thanks for stopping in!

Misti - Snowflakes

Today I’m continuing with my last card for the Product Review of the Misti at Splitcoaststampers.  I wanted to demonstrate how this stamp positioner is different than any other tool out there.  Take  look!

A direct link to the video is HERE.

Most of the how-to details are in the video so I’ll let you watch how I made it there.  I did make a mistake in the name of the stamp set in the video (because I actually had the mentioned stamp on my table too).  It is Festive Flurry, also retired.

Want to learn more about the new configuration for the Misti?  Hop right over to the Product Focus page and you can see all the reviews and projects from the whole Product Review Team!

I hope that you have enjoyed these Misti projects!  I will be back next week with some new projects I’ve been working on.  Until then, thanks so much for stopping in!

Freshly Made Sketches #209

Freshly Made Sketches #209 published on 10 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #209

FMS209 - Joy

The dear Jen Brum has come up with a clean and really awesome sketch for this week at Freshly Made Sketches!  I love all the possibilities it provides for die cuts or stamped images.

I went all in on the Holly Jolly Greetings stamp set for this card.  I love when you can stick to only one set and this set really is fabulous.  I know it is mostly a sentiment set but the combinations of sentiments give so many options!  And then there is the snowflake.  Love this snowflake!  I stamped the image onto Tip Top Taupe card stock using Versamark ink, added White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and heat embossed.  Then I cut it with my 2-1/2″ Circle Punch.  On another layer of Taupe, I stamped the sentiment the same way and embossed.  I centered the circle just laying it on the Joy layer and placed my circle template on top of it.  Once that was in the right spot, I used my Piercing Tool to add the circle detailing.  I popped the snowflake on Dimensionals and added Basic Pearls.  I love the color scheme on this.  A little more toned down but clean and elegant.

I have to confess that I want to keep playing with this sketch and you might see some more from me over the next few weeks using it.  Thanks, Jen!! I suspect you will feel the way and I hope to see your creations in the gallery!

I will be back tomorrow with a really fun card and a video.  Hint:  Another product review for Splitcoaststampers!!!  See you then!

O, Come All Ye Faithful…

O, Come All Ye Faithful… published on 1 Comment on O, Come All Ye Faithful…

Jen Timko - O Come All Ye Faithful

The beautiful images in All Ye Faithful have just been calling out to be colored.  If you follow me on Instagram, you have already seen the wise men but I kept playing around with this to see what would happen.  I got my Zig Clean Color Markers a couple of weeks ago and have been working to improve my coloring skills.  Images like these are so fun and allow room to play.  Watercolors in particular are pretty forgiving since you can “erase” many mistakes with a little water!  The coloring uses many (many) of the colors from the 48 pack of the Zigs and I just played with things until they seemed right.  I added a little big of Night of Navy ink to the background then spritzed with water to get the effect you see.  The navy was added over some other colors from the Zigs.  I pulled out the Misti again for this one since I wanted to be able to repeat the alignment of the stamps easily.  Once you have them right, the Misti allows you to create multiples!  Love that!

I hope you find some inspiration to head to your craft room and try some coloring!  I’ll be back tomorrow with another sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  Until then, thanks for stopping in!
