A new challenge from Freshly Made Sketches and the wonderful Kim Singdahlsen has a cool one for us. I see lots of opportunities for variation on this one!

Apparently I’m all in on Christmas cards already (worry not, I see some fall cards in my future too). I just had to play with some new (and new to me) items I got from Honey Bee Stamps last week. I got this awesome Lovely Layers: Trees die set that I think I will be using tons for the holidays. I used some patterned paper from the Spooktacular pack and picked a darker and lighter section from the same design. The only color I added was a little bit of Vintage Photo Distress Ink on the edges. I did add a bit of dimension between the tree layers and I love how that looks.

I opted to add some gold and pearl splatters to the tree for a little more of a holiday feel and then put it on a panel of two more prints. At first I tried this on white (too stark) and on kraft (too yellow). Then I pulled out this new Pebble Card Stock from Concord and 9th…just right! I added texture with the new Burlap 3D Embossing Folder and I love this effect. Products like this are unsung heroes and I’m always so happy when I add one to my stash. Finally, I did some gold embossing on the sentiment to pull those splatters a bit. This feels a bit like a masculine holiday card to me and could even be adapted to a non-holiday version.

We had such fun with our sketch #600 celebration last week and now, onward! This week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge designer is the one-of-a-kind Linda Callahan. She is the BEST!

I felt this one was perfect for a little scene and what better than Christmas mice from Merry Little Mice? I went with some non-traditional colors and had such fun coloring these elements.

I think I stuck close enough to the sketch on the background. I played around with adding an additional pattern under the teal but it just didn’t work for me. I love the stars on this pattern from the Make It Merry Paper Pad and found the crossing teal patten in an older, retired pad. The sentiment is from one of my workhorse sets called Inside: Holiday Sentiments. If you don’t have a set like this one, go grab it!

Twelve years ago, Freshly Made Sketches was introduced as a new challenge for those who liked clean cards and sketches for inspiration. And here we are, still going strong. Some of the team started at the very beginning and others of us were added along the way. And oh, what a great team it is!! For this landmark, we are celebrating the players. Over the years, there are a few designers that are perpetual team favorites so we invited them in as guests for the celebration. And as we pick our weekly winners, they will be offered the chance to guest with us in a future challenge. Because, let’s face it, without the players there is no challenge!

I am ready to make the transition into fall and decided I’d make a card with more of a fall color scheme. I pulled out my pretty Lovely Layers: Sunflowers dies and had fun just getting a little inky. I started off with a brighter yellow and then added more depth and color. For the center, I mixed greens and browns and then used some of the same greens on the leaves. Something about the process of inking these die cuts really brings me joy when I have been away from the craft room. Guaranteed success! I went back and added a few splatter just for texture and I love the effect.

For the base, I started with some Neenah Desert Storm and stamped on the Farmhouse Check grid. I love this one for its neutral vibe and it always adds just the right something. The crossing panel is a scrap from the Team Tie Dye Paper Pack. Finally, the sentiment is from Inside: Thankful Sentiments. Perfect for this week’s theme.

I’m so thankful for the many years of kind words, inspiration and the camaraderie from this amazing group of creators. What started as another challenge has come to mean more to me than I could have ever imagined. Our team has been there for celebrations and heartbreaks. You, the players, have shown support, taught us techniques and have been a beautiful addition to my life. Truly, thank you!

A cool new sketch idea at Freshly Made Sketches! Judy has us doing halfsies! Designs only on the top half of the card and the bottom is clean. I found it a bit of a challenge but happy with the final result.

Along with the new set from WPlus9 that I used last week, I ordered another set called Joyful Poinsettias. I like the background style design along with the single flower and sentiments in the set. Again with the watercoloring (because I know Dawn designs like a water colorist). I stamped the image in black then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I colored the flowers and leaves and tried to keep to a more vintage palette. After it was dry, I added a little Vintage Photo Distress Ink with a light hand to “age” the white spaces.

I waited until I was done coloring to choose the base and I went with Artichoke by Concord and 9th. I stamped and embossed the sentiment, going with a small one to keep it on the top half of the card. Finally I added some champagne colored pearls as accents.

A beautiful sketch this week at Freshly Made Sketches. Our designer, the lovely Amy O’Neill, gave us lots of options on this one.

I was so excited to get this new stamp set from the wonderful Dawn Woleslagle (WPlus9) called Darling Dahlias. It is just released to her shop even though she designed it a while ago. She certainly has a way with florals! For this, I chose one of the single flowers from the set and the leaves. Sadly, I need a sympathy card for someone at work so I decided that a blue dahlia might be appropriate. I played with a moody blue watercolor (Mayan Dark Blue) and added touches of a rust (Mummy Bauxite) for color variation in the flower. The leaves are a lovely gray (Shadow Violet) that has pretty ways of granulating. All colors are Daniel Smith Watercolors.

I used this pretty wood print from the Grain and Grunge paper pack and used a sentiment from the BEE Young: Blooms Free Bee Set (Honey Bee Stamps). After trying this whole combination on both white and black bases, I settled on a pale gray (Fog from SSS). I added a few matte black confetti pieces to finish.

Sorry for all the quiet over the last few weeks. Summer is always a hard time for me to craft but this summer even more so, it seems. I have been working in the flight office at Dulles for a month (and through this month) and while it is more consistent, it comes with long days. The pay off has been some weekends off and even the 4th of July off but we have done a small amount of traveling. Thus, not much crafting. But I did have a few minutes to play with this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge with this fun sketch by the amazing Narelle!

Given that Narelle is the queen of fussy cutting, I decided to do some cutting of my own. Die cutting that is. I took a bit of liberty with the dies (and the sketch) to create a bluebird out of a robin die. I spritzed some watercolor paper with Oxide sprays and let it dry. Then I cut the bird from the watercolor paper and then used my Bitty Blender Brushes to add Salty Ocean and Crackling Campfire Distress Oxide Ink.

There was a bit of mix and match with the dies but that is what makes these such a good investment! The Winter Greenery branch with leaves from the Dogwood set created a pretty summer branch. I added a nest with some little Salvaged Patina inked eggs. For the additional circle on the bottom of the sketch, I took my yellow blender brush and applied what happened to be on there. Likely some Scattered Straw and Squeezed Lemonade. I added a small sentiment from On the Line: Fall Florals. Before I added the elements, I decided a little more Lost Shadow spray would be good behind them.

Our lovely, overly ambitious hiker (the fabulous Jen Brum) is the sketch designer this week at Freshly Made Sketches. I was super glad for this graphic sketch because I needed something I could follow literally. And that is what I did!

I knew I wanted to use a patterned paper for the middle section on this and I had this paper pack out on my stamp table from another project. I love this bokeh rainbow print and it adds so much texture with none of the work! I just cut it on the angle and did a little bit of sponging on the edges to finish them a bit.

I thought this big sentiment was just the right size to fill the space and I like this “hello” for cards that sit ready to send a friend. Quick stamping and die cutting too! I added a few colored pearls to match the rainbow paper and done.

A clean and fabulous new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches. This week’s sketch designer is the marvelous Kim Singdahlsen and I love this trio of stripes for all the options.

In my mind I saw an ombré panel for the sketch so I started on that path. I spritzed white card stock with Distress Spray Stain in Lost Shadow and Pumice Stone. Once dry, I inked with the combination of Oxide Inks in Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Peacock Feathers. After some light inking I ran the panel through with the Clover Petals 3D Embossing Folder and then cut the panel into three pieces to comply with the sketch better. Once cut apart I added a bit more ink in each color. I wanted a little more, well, something so I added a spray of Shimmer Spray from Hero Arts.

I looked through my unused die cuts stack and fount these two leaves. One is spritzed and one is plain white. Perfect! I did spray them with a little more Shimmer Spray and then added them on. The sentiment is from my foiled pile (I love to just make a stack when I’m foiling) and then finally I added some pearls to help emphasize the shimmer.

I am the sketch designer this week at Freshly Made Sketches and I tried a circle pattern that is a little out of my normal card preference. I hope you will find some inspiration in it!

I thought it would be fun to use a 3D embossing folder for the texture on this card. Using the Spring Medley folder, I brayered on some Saltwater Taffy Distress Oxide Ink. I took my time making sure the folder as good and inked up before running it through. After I was done, I simply used some circle dies to cut out the different sizes from the same panel.

I thought a big gold sentiment would be perfect against the texture and I love this one from Thinking of You Big Time embossed with gold embossing powder. I added some matching confetti to finish. The best part about this card is that it would be easy to duplicate and make a stack in the same or even different colors!

A beautiful new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches designed by the wonderful Jacquie Southas. I combined some old and new products for this one.

I had not done much Copic coloring lately and I had a few minutes just to goof around. I pulled out the pretty Spring Joy Bouquet and colored some tulips and daffodils! I love the little wrap die and I used it 00with some tissue paper to create a more realistic wrap for the flowers and then tied it up with some purple twine.

I used a background I already had embossed with the Clover Petals embossing folder on Neenah Desert Storm. I love that floral feel but it doesn’t compete with the colored flowers.

I feel like May is one of the busiest months of the year and I’m guessing you feel the same. Not sure what it is but it happens every year. Wishing you a beautiful week! See you soon.
