FMS357 by Jen Timko | Mondo Holly Stamp Set and Dies by Ellen Hutson, Daniel Smith WatercolorsAnd I’m back for my regular Wednesday post!  Thanks for your patience as I caught up to life a bit.  I started with creating a swatch paper for  some new watercolors that I got for my birthday (THANKS MOM!!).  The paints are from Daniel Smith and my friend Lydia puts together splits to share the cost and allow people to have more colors.  Here is my first split….aren’t they pretty?!!

Lydia Split D SwatchingSwatching out the colors was a good way to get back in the groove a bit.  And did I mention they are so pretty!!! Notice that the palette has room for another split….hmmm…..  So after putting these paints down on paper, I decided to get real and actually color an image.  I had ordered this Mondo Holly the second I saw it and thought it would be pretty for today’s sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  Cécile created this one and I love all the options for it.  I thought this would go another way (with a spotlight vibe) but it didn’t work out quite like I had in my head.  I stamped the holly onto watercolor paper using Gina K’s Amalgam ink.  This is a new ink to me and I just had to give it a go.  It stamped well onto the watercolor paper (always a challenge, don’t you think?).  I did overstamp a few times with my Misti but the result was clear and crisp.  It dried quickly and I was able to get right to watercoloring.  I used colors from my split above (with the addition of one brown from a DS Dot Palette I have from Simon Says Stamp).  I need to work on the shading of the leaves more but I love these colors!  I added a sentiment from the same set and some black to make the image pop.  Finally some sequins in a pretty Rose Gold.I hope you have fun with this sketch and will join in with us.  The inspiration is always amazing from our design team and in the gallery too!  Thanks for stopping in today.  I’ll be back on Friday with a card featuring a new product and a new to me technique.  Until then, have a wonderful week!

I’m thrilled to be sharing one more card as the Guest Designer for the Coffee Loving Cardmakers today.  I’m back using Picket Fence Studios products and I hope you enjoy this.

Cool Beans by Jen Timko | BFF Owl Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Ways to Say Congrats Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Life Changing Blender Brushes by Picket Fence StudiosI’m pretty much in love with the sweet owls and this BFF Owl is super fun to color. I went a little out of the box on her palette and used the new Color Box Dyestress Inks by Clearsnap. They have some beautiful shades and they are great for easy watercoloring and blending. I stamped the owl in Versafine Onyx Black and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. Once she was colored I used the new Circle Stencil from Picket Fence Studios and the Life Changing Blender Brushes to create her spotlight.

Cool Beans by Jen Timko | BFF Owl Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Ways to Say Congrats Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Life Changing Blender Brushes by Picket Fence StudiosYou can see that there are seriously no lines from the blending. And the brushes come in big and little sizes so you can use them for all your stencils. The really are life changing when it comes to simplifying your blending. For the sentiment, I used another set from Picket Fence Studios (soon to arrive in the store) called Ways to Say Congrats. This one is perfect for all us coffee fans, don’t you think?

I had so much fun joining in on the Coffee Loving fun this month that I’ll be a part of  their hop celebrating National Coffee Day!!!  A whole day to celebrate coffee…I’m all in!!  And I’m lucky enough to be one of the hop participants with a sponsored prize.  You won’t want to miss it!!  Come back tomorrow for all the fun.  Until then, thanks for stopping in today.

I’m so excited to share with you today that Picket Fence Studios is launching its very first new release.  So many fantastic new sets and I get to start sharing with you today!

You Rock by Jen Timko | You Are A Hoot Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Louise #girlboss Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Copic ColoringFirst up, I have a card for you that I created for the Coffee Loving Cardmakers where I’m the guest designer this month.  Ah…coffee!!!  And cards!  Need I say more??!!  Ok, maybe a little more but click over HERE to see my post and some more details.  This adorable owl from You Are A Hoot seemed perfect for this new sentiment from the Louise (#girlboss collection) set.

You Rock by Jen Timko | You Are A Hoot Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Louise #girlboss Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Copic ColoringI colored using Copic Markers and then fussy cut her out.  I added this stitched scallop layer for the sentiment and thought some dots to match my coloring would be nice in the background.  Love the sentiments from this new set and they will be great to pair with many existing stamps in your collection.

Season's Greetings by Jen Timko | String of Lights Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, Dyestress Ink by ClearsnapFor my second card, I used another of the new release sets called String of Lights.  It is such fun and I love the sentiments too.  I created this background using Dyestress Inks by Clearsnap.  Then I stamped the image and sentiment in Versamark Ink and heat embossed with Bright White Embossing Powder by Wow Embossing.

These new inks come in such pretty colors and I loved the cool colors to make this image pop off the card.  I found that the Shark Bite Sequins from Picket Fence Studios were the perfect match for the inks (love when that happens) and I also added in a few Sparkling Clear Sequins.

Well that is it for today! Make sure you head over to the Picket Fence Studios site to see all the new products available in the new release.  I’ll be sharing more of them over the next few days!  Thanks for stopping in.  See you soon.

FMS354 by Jen Timko | Dream On Stamp Set by Pinkfresh Studios, Dyestress Inks by ClearsnapI’m happy to be back with you today to share a fabulous sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  Our sketch hostess is the talented and oh so witty Linda Callahan.  I love her whimsical takes on sketches and stamp sets!

Her sketch this week reminded me of this little stamp set from Pinkfresh Studios called Dream On.  I love the little images and the sentiments in it and it had not gotten nearly enough use.  I hope that I didn’t stray too far from the sketch but I’m sure Linda will forgive me if I did.

I stamped the image onto a Strathmore Watercolor Notecard (these are the fabulous watercolor paper all pre-cut and ready to go with envelopes).  I used Versafine Onyx Black and then watercolored with a new product from Clearsnap called the Dyestress Blendable Dye Inks.  These are beautiful distress style ink in gorgeous colors.  I just got them so I used this card as a bit of a palette test.  Pretty, aren’t they?!  I thought this sentiment kind of fit my mood as I was creating it.  I know I didn’t make my usual Sept. 11th post yesterday but, truthfully, there is a lot going on with our family and I just didn’t have it in me.  So in a way, this is my tribute card.  It is hard in the face of tragedy to be happy.  But it is ok to try to own it and allow yourself to heal and find joy.  So I have this card for just the right day and just the right person.

I hope that you have a wonderful and peaceful week.  Take a moment to allow yourself to be happy!  And for those of you who are facing hurricanes, fires and other tragedies, please know that I am thinking of you and your safety!  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you on Friday with lots of fun things!

FMS353 by Jen Timko | Schools of Fish Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, A Dose of Vitamin Sea Stamp Set by Picket Fence DesignsA quick post for today. On a layover, hotel wifi is wacko and I am just trying to fight to get this posted.  Ah, technology!!

The amazing Jen Mitchell has a sketch today over at Freshly Made Sketches that is perfect for anyone.  That wide open space meant that I just needed to create something with watercolor.  These fabulous fish from Picket Fence Studios are such fun and seemed perfect.  I stamped on Fabriano Extra White Watercolor paper and colored using some Daniel Smith paints.  The sentiment from a sister set called A Dose of Vitamin Sea really spoke to me and I thought it would work well here.  The Frosted Droplets are a new product from Stampin’ Up and I liked their added texture.

Ok, like I said…super quick.  More soon when I’m back to a functioning internet.  Thanks for stopping in today. See you soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #349

Freshly Made Sketches #349 published on 7 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #349

Hi everyone!  I’m back from a bit of a summer break and I’m thrilled to be able to share the latest sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  Our sketch hostess is Karren Johnson and she has created the perfect clean sketch to get me inspired after my time off.  Karren always has the most beautiful coloring and design on her cards so it is no surprise that she gave us a sketch that allows for lots of creativity.

When I saw the horizontal panel, the first thing that came to mind was watercoloring.  So I went with it.  I used my Daniel Smith palette from Simon Says Stamp (lots of little dots to allow you to find your favorite colors!) and chose a soft color scheme.  I made an ombré gray and then added some little hydrangea petals from Mondo Hydrangea colored in purple with a bit of green.  The sentiment from the same set fit perfectly across the bottom of the colored swash.  I thought about adding more bling or details but then I felt it was perfect just as it was.  You can’t really see it but the purple watercolor is called Amethyst Genuine and has a bit of sparkle in it.  Gorgeous!

I needed a clean card to warm back up!  Over the last two weeks, I have not been in my stamp room.  We had a family vacation to Florida (yes…it was crazy hot and humid, haha!!).  We conquered three parks and enjoyed some pool time.  And most fun, we even managed to sneak a surprise visit in with my mom!  That was a highlight of the trip, for sure.  After vacation it was right back to work.  This is the busy season for sure and the weather has been no one’s friend.  I definitely needed some stamping time!!  I’m back out today but hoping for some more craft time next week.  Lots of fun things in the works!  Until then, thanks for stopping in and I’ll see you soon.  Hope you’ll join in our challenge this week!

FMS347 by Jen Timko | Happy Birds Stamps and Dies by WPlus9 The summer fun continues around my house and we have been busy, busy!  Hope you are having a great week too.  Our sketch this week at Freshly Made Sketches is courtesy of the lovely Kim Singdahlsen.  I love her style…always something really special about her work!

I saw a circle and at first I thought flower (of course).  But I thought maybe I should stretch a bit so I flipped through my stamp sets and came upon Happy Birds by WPlus9.  It was PERFECT!  So I colored up this little cardinal and pulled out a previously inked and cut out panel.  I knew I was right to keep this stack of unused extras!  I thought the sentiment was funny because the little bird has a slightly grumpy look to me (although my 15yo swears he looks happy).  To add a little more interest, I embossed the base of my card with a circles folder from SU.

I hope you will enjoy playing along with us this week.  Please stop by and say and extra thank you to Caly Person for all her inspiration this month.  It has been such a joy to have her along!  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon!

Good Friends Are Like Stars…

Good Friends Are Like Stars… published on 2 Comments on Good Friends Are Like Stars…

Happy Friday!!  Wow it has been quite a week and I’m happy to end it with this week’s Feature Friday with Concord and 9th.  This week we are focusing on the City Stacks bundle.  There are so many options with this set that my head was spinning with ideas.  After pondering a bit, I settled down into an idea that centers on this amazing sentiment.  I LOVE this sentiment.

I stamped the tree image onto Bristol Smooth paper and colored using some Daniel Smith watercolor paints.  Just different shades of green.  With a quick cut using the coordinating dies, this layer was done.  Then I took another piece of Bristol Smooth and inked it up with a variety of blue Distress Inks.  I splattered with a bit of water and then finished with a little splatters of gold Smooch Accent Ink to mimic stars (the stamp set has stars so that is totally a great choice too).  And then I debated some more.  I finally settled on using a dark blue panel that is cut using the “top” die from the die set.  I like the detail it gives.  The sentiment was stamped in Versamark and then heat embossed with gold embossing powder.  Finally, to add the perfect finish with all the gold, I added a small strip of the gold glitter paper from the Neutrals Glitter Paper Pack.  All the shine is hard to capture in a photo but it is really spectacular in person.

I popped up my layers on foam tape but this bundle is designed to create 3-D cards.  Make sure you watch the tutorials from Concord and 9th to see how cool this is!  You can also see inspiration from all the Feature Friday designers on the Concord and 9th Blog.  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you again soon!

Have a LLama Fun by Jen Timko | Loveable Llamas Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Sunscape Stencil by Newton's Nook DesignsThis gorgeous stencil was my starting place of the card.  The Sunscape Stencil give you the choice of the sun, some landscape or both!  It is awesome!  I chose to use just the sun for this and sponged on some Distress Ink in yellows and oranges.  Then I got to coloring this super fun little llama.  I love all the options for him and oh, those glasses.  Well, they were a must to go along with the sunny background.  Plus, the glasses make the card super “cool” for just about anyone’s birthday!  I colored the llama and his accessories using Distress Inks too and then just layered them on.  This was just a fun card to make!

I love when a stamp set makes it simply fun to sit down and create!  So you know what time it is…hop around to the whole DT and make sure leave comments for your chance to win.

Freshly Made Sketches #341

Freshly Made Sketches #341 published on 6 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #341

FMS341 by Jen Timko | Banner in Bloom Stamp Set and Dies by Reverse Confetti, Zig Clean Color Markers, Softly Falling Embossing Folder by Stampin' UpI love the new sketch that we have from Freshly Made Sketches this week!!  The lovely Narelle has given us such a great one and I knew I had to use flowers…because, well, Narelle is the queen of gorgeous flower cards.  This pretty stamp set seem tailor-made for the sketch so I just went with the easy choice.

Banner in Bloom has such wonderful images and this banner with the flowers is an easy go-to.  I stamped with Versafine Onyx Black and colored with Zig Clean Color Markers.  The pretty pastels seemed just right for the image and I love how they looked agains the Fog Gray color from Simon Says Stamp.  To add to the sketch elements (that were really already incorporated in the image), I thought it would be nice to add a bit of black metallic thread behind the banner.  The card seemed a little too clean (even for me) so I pulled out an old favorite embossing folder called Softly Falling to add a little bit of texture.  What a difference that makes!

And there you have it!  Fun coloring and a sweet little card for my stash.  I’m busy stamping this week for some upcoming projects.  Can’t wait to share them all.  Until next time, thanks so much for stopping in!
