I am so excited to be able to share with you this month’s project with for our Fancy Friday monthly hop!  If you just came over from the amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  My friends and I want to be able to share with you our ideas in a monthly format.  We will use different themes each month – sometimes colors, sometimes a sketch, sometimes a stamp set focus.  The one thing you can count on is that it will be fancy!  Over the last year “fancy” became our word to describe the best projects, the best new clothes, even the best pedicure colors.  Now we want to share with you our take on “fancy” each month.  This month we are focusing our creative energy on Designer Series Paper.  You know them, you love them….how could we create without them??!!

FF Oct - Give Thanks

I continue to be completely in love with this Color Me Autumn DSP so I thought I should share a card that lets the paper do most of the work!  In fact the paper is used for almost everything.  I started with this pretty diamond pattern as a background and cut it to cover the whole cad front.  Then I wrapped a Tea Lace Doily around the edge before adhering it to the base.  I cut a strip of this Blackberry Bliss striped paper to about 2″ wide and punched it with my Scalloped Tag Topper Punch and rounded the corners with my Corner Rounder Punch.  The leaves were cut from the DSP print.  I took a Basic Wooden Element banner and stamped it with the sentiment from And Many More with Soft Suede ink.  The little clothespin is one I have left from a kit (unnamed because I had it in with other stuff….sorry).  I sponged all the edges with Crumb Cake ink and then tied on a piece of Daffodil Delight Seam Binding that had been spritzed with water and dried with the low setting of my Heat Tool.

So I thought it would be fun to give out a little blog candy.

HYCCT1430 – Hope Soars

HYCCT1430 – Hope Soars published on 4 Comments on HYCCT1430 – Hope Soars

Today is the day!  I’m the hostess for the Hope You Can Cling To Challenge (HYCCT1430) and I have to confess, I’m a little nervous!  Fortunately, some of my stamping friends have already joined in as sample makers for my challenge!!

This is the 5th year that Splitcoaststampers has hosted this amazing month long series of challenges in support of those struggling with cancer.  The MD Anderson Cancer Center is the recipient of so many of the cards.  Some are just for encouragement but most are donated so that those in the hospital can find just the right one to brighten someone’s day.

As I thought about a theme, I found this quote (turned into a graphic with My Digital Studio by me):

HYCCT Inspiration-001I know that when a diagnosis of cancer is first given, it can seem like the world has turned against you so it seemed fitting that I base my challenge on this quote.  The theme of my challenge is Hope Soars.  I challenge you to create cards inspired by things that take off!  I hope that you will come over to Splitcoaststampers and join me.  There is even the opportunity to win prizes!  So you can help a worthy cause and win cool crafty stuff!  Perfect!

HYCCT1430 - jentimko - Hope Soars

Here is my own sample card for the theme.  While much of the month has focused on breast cancer, for me the inspiration was actually my dad who passed away from colon cancer.  So I chose to use a more masculine palette.  I pulled out the retired Epic Day DSP and created a tiny paper airplane.  Then using the Word Bubble Framelits (these are on special this week, by the way), I cut out some clouds.  I love that the one of the clouds has inspirational words!  The sentiment is from Truly Grateful stamped in Soft Suede.  I distressed the panel and did some crazy stitching to add a little character to the card and that was it other than a bit of sponging.

Now I mentioned that some of my creative friends created samples for me.  Make sure you go take a look at the work by Linda Callahan (abbysmom2198), Jen Mitchell (jenmitchell) and Rita Wright (kyann22), along with the other amazing hostesses who joined in so far.  You can see the whole gallery for my challenge here:  Gallery for HYCCT1430.  I am looking forward to seeing that gallery fill up even more!

Thanks so much for stopping in today.  I really hope you will consider sharing your talents for this fantastic cause!  For easy access to all the challenges, click here:  Hope You Can Cling To Master Challenge Thread

Freshly Made Sketches #160

Freshly Made Sketches #160 published on 9 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #160

FMS Final 160-001

Wow!!  Take a look at what Rita has created for Freshly Made Sketches this week!  Isn’t this sketch fun?  I just love the potential of all the layers on this one!

FMS160 - Merry Christmas

I decided I needed to pull out some retired products for this one.  I still love the colors and patterns from the Fresh Prints DSP Pack.  I chose two of the prints for the banner and little rectangle.  Then I pulled a page from a This & That journal and stamped the sentiment from Merry Little Christmas.  I added the little star from Hodgepodge Clips and looped on a Real Red ribbon piece.  I embossed the back panel with Stylish Stripes.  I love when I get to combined old and new products!  I can always count on them coordinating and it makes me happy to make a dent in my stash of DSP.

The cool elements on this sketch has given the team all kinds of room to inspire and they haven’t let us down.  I just look in awe every week!  I just know you’ll feel the same way.

I have some more projects coming this week.  First, tomorrow is my big day to hostess for the Hope You Can Cling To Challenges at Splitcoaststampers.  I cannot even wait to share my theme with you!  Then I have my Fancy Friday project for October on Friday and there will be BLOG CANDY!!!  Yep, the whole team will have blog candy for you so make sure you check back!  Until then, I hope your week is going well.  See you soon!

HYCCT1423 – A Flower for Mom

HYCCT1423 – A Flower for Mom published on 3 Comments on HYCCT1423 – A Flower for Mom

As promised, I’m back today with another one of my Hope You Can Cling To Challenge cards.  This one is for Debbi’s “Tissue?  I hardly even know you!” challenge (HYCCT1423).  Let’s face it, when a diagnosis of cancer is given, tissues are needed in great abundance.  So we are challenged to use tissue on a card.  As soon as I saw this one I knew exactly what I wanted to make!!

HYCCT1423 - Tissue flower

The Natural Filter Paper is one of the great secret treasures of the new catalog.  I love it!  For today’s card, I cut a piece of it to the same size as my image layer (3-7/8″ sq) and ran it through my Big Shot with the retired Lacy Brocade Embossing Folder (I still love that one!).  Then I sewed the layer down onto Crumb Cake card stock.  The flower was created using a variation of this tutorial.  Instead of hand cutting the flow (because who has time for that?), I used my Big Shot and the Fun Flowers Die (retired).  I cut 12 layers all at once out of pink tissue paper and the folded them like the tutorial shows.  Punched the hole and threaded through some Metallic Baker’s Twine with the metal thread removed (I had use the metal strands on another project).  Tie a knot and then unravel the twine a bit.  I liked the look enough to let it show as an extra detail.  I layered some more Filter Paper over a strip of Crumb Cake card stock and stamped the sentiment from And Many More.

My hope is that someone at the MD Anderson Cancer Center will be able to share this with their very special mom.  My little stack for the center is growing and I’m hoping to have even more by the end of the month!  Oh…and I’m the hostess for the challenge on Oct. 30th.  Can hardly even wait to share my theme with you!!

I’m so glad you stopped in today.  I really hope you will join us in crafting for this wonderful cause.  There is a new challenge every day this month so plenty of inspiration!  For easy access to all the challenges, click here:  Hope You Can Cling To Master Challenge Thread

FMS Final 159-001

I hope you liked yesterday’s card for the Hope You Can Cling To Challenge.  I am just so excited to be able to be a sample maker for some of the amazing hostesses!  And speaking of hostesses…well we are super lucky to have the fabulous Jen Mitchell as our sketch hostess this week at Freshly Made Sketches!  Her clean design lends itself to lots of interpretations!

FMS159 - Bright Star

I seem to have stars on the brain so I immediately reached for my Bright & Beautiful stamp set for this sketch.  Now what you can’t see in this picture is that the card is made on Shimmery White Card Stock and the subtle shimmer is SOOO pretty with the gold embossing.  I stamped the star and the sentiment with Gold Encore Ink and heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  All I had to do was add a few Rhinestones and I have a sparkly card all ready to go!  Want to keep the look all gold instead??!!  Just add gold sequins and you are there!

Now speaking of stars….did you hear about the new Holiday Supplement from Stampin’ Up?!  Well, you need to check out this Pinterest page:  Merry & Bright.  So many cute things and totally easy to make with the new kits!

See…that is why I have stars on the brain!  Now, off to see the work from the rest of the team.  Make sure you come back tomorrow since I have another card for the Hope You Can Cling To Challenges!  See you then!

HYCCT1421 – Papillon Art

HYCCT1421 – Papillon Art published on 2 Comments on HYCCT1421 – Papillon Art

I’m back with a card that made me so happy to make!  I get to share another one of my Hope You Can Cling To Challenge cards today.  This one is for Patricia’s “Get Inked” challenge (HYCCT1421).  Her inspiration is her mother and the dots they put on her every time she went for treatment so that the machines could be properly placed.  So we are to create cards with dots and spots.

HYCCT1421 - Papillon Art

I started this card by cutting a template from a window sheet with the Hexagon Hive Framelit.  Using that as a stencil, I sponged on Pink Pirouette ink moving the stencil as needed to get the right hexagons filled in.  I then stamped on spots with the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set and Smoky Slate ink that had been stamped off.  But that didn’t seem “spotty” enough (or special enough) so I pulled out some retired Moonlight Smooch Pearlized Ink and splattered it on the card by tapping the applicator with my bone folder.  It adds such a pretty touch in person!  My butterfly from Papillon Potpourri is stamped in Smoky Slate onto White Vellum and heat embossed with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder then punched with the Elegant Butterfly Punch.  I added some Basic Pearls onto him to coordinate with the Pearl ink.  FInally, I chose a sentiment from Work of Art.  I love this sentiment but I think this will be particularly meaningful to someone at the MD Anderson Cancer Center.  At least I hope so!

I’m so glad you stopped in today.  I really hope you will join us in crafting for this wonderful cause.  There is a new challenge every day this month so plenty of inspiration!  For easy access to all the challenges, click here:  Hope You Can Cling To Master Challenge Thread

The Newborn King – Card Details

The Newborn King – Card Details published on 1 Comment on The Newborn King – Card Details

I’m so excited to share with you the details from the other two cards from last weekend’s blog hop with the Stampin’ Addicts.  Both of these cards were created with real mailing in mind.  Flat, duplicatable but still special.

SA Winter Hop - Shimmery Gold KingThis first one is so pretty in person and the camera just can’t really capture the subtle shimmer on it.  First, the card is made using Shimmery White Card Stock.  I just love the bit of sparkle in this paper!!  I stamped in image with Encore Gold Ink and then embossed it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Then I created a frame for the image using an Apothecary Accents Framelit.  I stamped the sentiment in the gold and embossed it too.  The frame layer is popped up on Dimensionals (make sure you use plenty around the frame to prevent bending or sagging).  This is a super simple card but it has a certain wow factor that I love.

SA Winter Hop - King 1This second card was created with a watercolor wash.  I inked only the stable and Holy Family with my Baked Brown Sugar marker and stamped on Watercolor Paper.  The star is stamped the same way.  Then I colored in the Holy Family using my Blender Pen and Pool Party (Mary), Baked Brown Sugar (Joseph, manger and stable) and So Saffron (inside stable and star).  Then, using a paint brush dipped in water, I picked up Smoky Slate for the sky and Baked Brown Sugar for the earth to create the background.  I allowed the watery brush to hit edges of stamped images to create the softer effect.  The sentiment was stamped while the paper was still a bit damp to match.  Finally, I added just a little shimmer with my clear Spica pen on the star.  Gold Foil frames the stamped image layer.  To create the background, I stamped my Hardwood stamp onto Soft Suede card stock with Soft Suede ink and cut apart on the lines.  I sponged each layer and then put it back together on the base.

I hope you enjoy these cards and this stamp set.  It has such potential for pretty coloring but it is equally elegant left plan and just embossed.

I’m so glad you stopped in today to see these.  It has been a busy couple of weeks and I have to confess that I am a bit burned out.  I plan to take the next few days to stamp just for me and finish some projects that are sitting around still in pieces on my desk.  Please tell me that I’m not the only one who has those all around?!  I have a busy week of posting next week for you though.  Two cards for Hope You Can Cling To Challenges that I can hardly wait to share plus another super sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  Until then, I hope you have some time to stamp!  See you soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #158

Freshly Made Sketches #158 published on 9 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #158

FMS Final 158-001

I am so excited to share a new sketch with you today from Freshly Made Sketches!  I am this week’s sketch hostess and I can’t wait to see what everyone does with it this week.

FMS158 - Sweet Friend

I designed this sketch with the opportunity for pretty images or great sentiments on the focal panel.  I (finally) pulled out this great new set called You’re Wonderful.  I wanted to use this Blendabilities technique using White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  First you stamp the image using a light color of ink (Stampin’ Up just released a list of classic inks that also work with Blendabilities) and I used Crumb Cake.  Then I colored using Melon Mambo, Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive Blendabilities.  They using your Stamp-a-ma-jig, stamp again using Versamark Ink and emboss with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I cute the images out and layered them.  The sentiment is from the same set and stamped in Old Olive.  The little piece of DSP is from a retired pack and the scallop punch is retired too.  They both seemed perfect to use here, though.  I added a Candy Dot to the flower center.

I know you’ll love the work from the design team this week.  Seriously, they are so amazing every week, aren’t they?!  I hope you’ll have fun with this one too.

Well, I promised to be back yesterday with more on my cards from the weekend’s blog hop (I did have a video posted on Monday).  Well, soccer tournaments (all weekend) and a field trip (yesterday) got in the way of that post.  So sorry!!!  But I’ll have it up tomorrow instead.  I get to meet with some of my Hostess Club ladies today so I’ll have a fun and stampy day.  Looking forward to it!  Until tomorrow, I hope you have a great one!
