Fancy Friday - Sept-001I am so excited to be able to share with you our second round of a new monthly hop!  If you just came over from the amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  My friends and I want to be able to share with you our ideas in a monthly format.  We will use different themes each month – sometimes colors, sometimes a sketch, sometimes a stamp set focus.  The one thing you can count on is that it will be fancy!  Over the last year “fancy” became our word to describe the best projects, the best new clothes, even the best pedicure colors.  Now we want to share with you our take on “fancy” each month.  This month we have a sketch that I designed for the team.  And you know what?  You can join in too!  Just use our sketch and post a comment with your link on any of the Fancy Friday team’s blogs.  And you can click our logo above to get to the Fancy Friday Pinterest page!

FF Sep - Christmas Leaves

I wanted to focus on this beautiful hostess stamp set, Bloom with Hope, and thought the “out of the box” technique with a framelit would be perfect for the sketch.  How did I take the image out of the box?  Well, I have created a little video to show you!

Direct link to YouTube video tutorial here

Once I had my image panel created, I used my Stampin’ Distress Tool on the edges and sponged them with Crumb Cake ink.  Under the Tree Specialty DSP is a perfect match for this image and I used two different prints.  The Garden Green print is so cool for the background.  Then I took a piece of the diamond Cherry Cobbler print that was cut with my Large Scallop Framelit and paired it with some Venetian Crochet Trim to create the sketch layers.  I popped the image up on Dimensionals and added this great sentiment.  Know which set it is from?  It is a sentiment set called Good Greetings.  Truthfully it should be called “Awesome Greetings” because it is really, well, awesome!  This set is a hostess exclusive for hosting a $300 workshop and you can earn it now!  Let me know if you need more details.  I stamped in Momento Black ink (just like the image) and then distressed and sponged it too.  I anchored it with a  Gold Basic Button tied Linen Thread.  The card base is Kraft Card Stock, which is my new obsession!

And congratulations to Lauren!  She is the winner of the Seasonally Scattered stamp set from last month’s giveaway!

Okay, off to go visit the awesome Mercedes Weber!  You will love her project!

FMS Final 155-001

Another week and another fabulous sketch from Freshly Made Sketches!!  Now I KNOW you will love this one from the clever and talented Karren Johnson.  She has the most fabulous flair for fun cards and this sketch is just that!

FMS155- Tree Tag Card

So true confession time.  I made this card in 15 minutes.  I was called by my scheduler at United on Friday and they gave me a 4 day trip coming back late last night.  Uh oh….and no card ready for this week.  Yikes!  So I used some paper that was sitting on my desk (you’ll see that card on Friday) and put this together fast!  I already know what I want to change, lol!  But….the good news is you get a nice clean card to see that focuses on this A-MAZ-ING designer paper.  Under the Tree DSP.  Just get it now.  And get an extra pack of Kraft Card Stock while you are there.  This DSP is heavier than normal which makes is perfect for tags, boxes and all kinds of other ideas that are spinning around in my head.  I took a strip of the Early Espresso Stripe and put it alongside the Kraft on a Naturals Ivory card base.  I cut a piece from the Cherry Cobbler tree print and punched it with the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch and rounded the bottom corners with my Envelope Punch Board punch.  The sentiment is a Hostess Exclusive Stamp Set called Good Greetings.  And they are seriously good greetings.  It is a great time to hostess for sure!  I added the cute little gold Mini Metallic Clothespin and the tied the button with gold strands from the Gold Metallic Baker’s Twine.  What would I change??  Hmmm….I think I’ll have to post a new version in the next few days if I can get some time to put my idea to paper.

You are going to love all the work from the design team this week and I’m here to say you need to visit the gallery and look around too.  Because last week’s gallery blew us away.  You should see the angst when we can’t choose all the cards as winners!

I will be back on Friday with this month’s Fancy Friday.  And guess what?!  It is a sketch that I designed!!!  We are giving you the opportunity to play along with us so I hope you will!  Until then, have a fantastic week.  Thanks so much for stopping in.

Navy and Gold Star-Shaped Card – A Tutorial

Navy and Gold Star-Shaped Card – A Tutorial published on 10 Comments on Navy and Gold Star-Shaped Card – A Tutorial

I am so happy to be here today to show you a fun project I created for my Hostess Club members this month.  I always think shaped cards are special!  Then one of my club members suggested that we make one this month and I thought it was the perfect time to show you a version with the new Bright & Beautiful stamp set and coordinating Star Framelits.

Navy and Gold Star-Shaped Card

This card is so elegant with the gold and navy and really easy to make.  Yes….easy!  And a new first for me on this blog….drum roll please….a video tutorial!  As I was working on the videos tutorials for my Stamps on the Fly class this month, I realized I should post some here sometimes too.  I can’t wait to see what you think!!  Please let me know.  Also, there is a variation in the video so don’t miss that!

Well, since I don’t have to type up the instructions, let’s go right to the video.  (I provided a direct link under the embedded image for my email readers.)

While I promised this would be up yesterday, I had to get ready to go on a trip and that slowed me a bit.  Hopefully the video makes up for the tardiness!

I have been stamping away for some new things coming in October!  A blog hop, Hope You Can Cling To Challenge at Splitcoaststampers, more Stamps on the Fly….whew!  Can’t wait to share it all but hopefully you’ll love them!  For now, I’m out on the road and trying to catch up on some of the “admin” stuff during my layovers.  I hope that your weekend is fantastic!  If you are traveling, look for me!  Thanks so much for stopping in today!

Freshly Made Sketches #154

Freshly Made Sketches #154 published on 8 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #154

FMS Final 154-001

I have to say that last week’s Freshly Made Sketches gallery was simply awesome!  There was so much inspiration there!  And I strongly suspect this week will be the same.  Because this new sketch is just fabulous, don’t you think?!  No surprise since the designer of this one is the incredible Cindy Lovell!  I just love her style and was so excited to see this sketch.

FMS154 - Fall Thx

I posted yesterday on the Freshly Made Sketches Facebook Page that I seem to have an overabundance of designer paper.  I took a small step towards addressing that with this card.  I just loved this Sweater Weather DSP last year and I have no idea how it is possible that I still have so much of it but I was happy to see it as I was pondering this sketch.  That herringbone piece was already cut with the “thx” so it was meant to be!  (The cut out is from the Circle Card Thinlits)  I used leaves from the Thankful Tablescape Kit from last year too.  The card was practically made for me at this point.  I chose patterns from the rest of the DSP to complete the sketch, added a Chocolate Chip layer underneath the sentiment to help it pop and a button with some Metallic Baker’s Twine sans metallic thread.  (I was using the little metallic threads for something else and found that this remaining twine is nice for things where you need a more Vanilla twine.)

I hope you enjoy this blast from the past card and maybe it will inspire YOU to pull out some old DSP that is begging to be used.  Seriously….it does not want to be hoarded, it is crying out to be on your crafting table.  *smile*

The design team has created a fabulous collection to show you (and I’m pretty sure Rita pulled out some retired paper too so I’m in good company).  Have fun with this and I can’t wait to see what you create.

I’ll be back on Friday with a fun project I created for my hostess club meeting this month.  Until then, have a great week!

Do you know what today is??  Well, Monday of course.  But it is a good Monday because it is reveal day for the Dirty Dozen Design Team at Splitcoaststampers!!!  Yep, the new gallery full of stamping inspiration is open.  In order to see what I have created, you have to be a member of the Splitcoast Fan Club.  But seeing my cards is definitely the tip of the iceberg!  You get access to the whole Fan Club/Dirty Dozen Gallery plus all the other perks outlined in the club link.  Yeah…it is awesome!

This month’s theme is super cool!  “If You Leave Me Now….”  So many ways to interpret and the team has had a blast with it!  I even have a card to share that did not make my final cut to the gallery there.  But I just HAD to share it!

Glimmer Leaves

I pulled out some retired things to play with on this one.  The leaf image is from the Secret Garden Framelits and the sentiment (embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder) is from Always Thankful.  The Champagne Glimmer paper makes the card and wow does it sparkle in person!

Blooms of Remembrance

Blooms of Remembrance published on 22 Comments on Blooms of Remembrance

I think by now most of you know that in my “day” job, I am a pilot at United Airlines.  Every year I feel compelled to write a post commemorating those lost on that horrific day 13 years ago.  (You can read them here:  9th Anniversary10th Anniversary,  11th Anniversary and 12th Anniversary)  Each year I feel the sadness creeping in and find myself a bit out of sorts.  While I know that we have distance on the event and that certainly dampens the emotions a bit, I can’t help but reflect back.  I know many people throughout the world feel the same and that is a good thing.  Those lost were husbands, wives, daughters, sons.  Meaningful lives cut too short.  They should be remembered and honored.

As usual, I turn to stamping to ease my heart and give my emotions a place to go.  This week was no different.  I found myself a little chaotic in the stamp room and having a hard time focusing.  Eventually I just gave in to it and created a card especially inspired by 9-11.

While I could not be there, I was proud that my pilot brethren could form an “honor guard” of sorts outside the ceremony to award three Congressional Gold Medals given yesterday in honor of the fallen victims.  Each medal was specially designed to commemorate the crash sites.  Each will be housed in the appropriate memorial at the sites.  The fact that pilots stood in honor of the fallen is fitting and makes me proud.  We do not forget.  Every time we go to work, we realize the responsibility given to us to protect the lives and well-being of our passengers.  We take it very seriously every single day.  We love the smiling children boarding planes on the way to their great adventures.  We love taking people to visit their loved ones.  We even love the harried business people who barely look up from their devices to acknowledge us.  Because we love to fly!  And we know in our hearts the trust you put in us.  We get to bring people together and what an amazing opportunity that is.  That togetherness flies in the face of the evil that showed itself 13 years ago.  The evil will not win over love, joy, family!  It will not win over the smiles and hugs I see every time our planes arrive.  And we are grateful for the privilege of being a part of that!

Remembrance Blooms

So here is my card for today.  The colors fit my mood so I just went with them.  The lovely Kraft Card Stock was stamped with Early Espresso Ink and then embossed with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I colored the flowers with my Blendabilities (Night of Navy and Skin Tone Assortment).  That elegant striped paper is from the Under the Tree Specialty DSP.  The ribbon…one of my new favorites…Early Espresso Seam Binding.  It is gorgeous.  And I colored some Basic Pearls with my darkest Skin Tone Blendabilities Marker.

I appreciate you stopping in today and I appreciate all of my readers so much.  Thank you for letting me share this part of my heart.  I wish you a day of love and joy and togetherness!

FMS Final 153-001

Time for the middle of the week fun from Freshly Made Sketches!  Just take a look at this fabulous sketch from the lovely and talented Jen Brum.  I just know you are going to love this one!  So many fantastic ways to interpret it!

FMS153 - Grateful WreathI chose to stick with my fall theme and created a little wreath for the sketch.  I took a 1-3/8″ and 1-3/4″ Circle Punch to create the wreath form out of scrap card stock.  Then I cut the edge off a piece of Burlap Ribbon and simply wrapped it around the form.  It is secured with Glue Dots.  Then I used my Flower Fair Framelits leaf to punch out the three leaves from Champagne Glimmer Paper and Color Me Autumn.  I added some Linen Thread and the Gold Metal Button to finish the wreath (also secured with Glue Dots).  The sentiment is from the lovely set Truly Grateful and I added one more Gold Metal Button to try to match the sketch a bit more.  This is a simple card to make but I think that wreath is kind of a wow.  Hope you like it too…let me know what you think!

Seasonally Scattered – Fall Thanks

Today I have another card to show you from my Convention Display Board projects!  (Remember to click on the button above to link to all the other display stampers on our Pinterest board)

Seasonally Scattered - Fall ThanksI thought you would enjoy the fall colors of this card as we get more into fall mode.  These are such great ones too!  I started with my new In Colors and chose Mossy Meadow, Tangelo Twist and Hello Honey then added in some Early Espresso.  I markered up the stamp putting colors where they seemed to make sense.  Then I lightly spritzed the stamp with water to get the colors to bleed just a little.  The image was stamped onto Naturals Ivory paper and then cut with an Oval Framelit.  I good a piece of Mossy Meadow Card Stock and embossed it with the Honeycomb folder then layered some Burlap Ribbon and a Tea Lace Doily behind the image.  A button tied with Linen Thread completes it.

I am a little late on my post today.  It has been soccer madness for my family this weekend!  Two games for the oldest and one for the youngest.  Great playing and fun watching for all!  But whew…we are tired.  I hope your weekend was equally wonderful!  Until next time, thanks so much for stopping in!

Freshly Made Sketches #152

Freshly Made Sketches #152 published on 10 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #152

FMS Final 152-001

I am happy to be back today with this awesome sketch for Freshly Made Sketches!  Our sketch hostess this week is the oh so lovely Cindy Hall.  I just love her style of stamping and you could not hope to meet a nicer person.  And she came up with a fabulous clean sketch for us this week that I know you will love.

FMS152 - Thankful Leaves

So yes, I did use this stamp for last week’s FMS card.  But surely you can’t expect me to put it down.  It is awesome!  I love fall.  Fall in Virginia is amazing.  Leaves turning, apple orchards, pumpkin patches, beautiful weather.  So I am inspired by fall stamps sets and colors every year. For All Things is one of those go-to sets.  I combined it with the Color Me Autumn DSP and it is a match made in heaven.  I popped the leaves out of the DSP with my Flower Fair Framelits.  Yes.  You were all caught up in the pretty flowers and didn’t notice the leaves.  I did the same thing until I was scouring about trying to figure out how to accessorize this.  Beautiful papers plus great framelits equal fabulous!  All I had to do was add a little bit of Linen Thread and a Gold Basic Metallic Button to finish.

The FMS team has tons of inspiration for you this week.  And…if you didn’t see it….we could not let Kim Singdahlsen leave our team so she has agreed to stay on as a permanent member!  We are so thrilled!

My boys are finally both back in school and I am stamping away.  Some of my work is for my Stamps on the Fly edition (see below) and some is for Dirty Dozen.  But I hope to have something new to show you later this week if United doesn’t call me in to fly.  I hope you September is off to a great start and I am so glad you stopped in to visit me today.
