Stamping with Love

Stamping with Love published on 2 Comments on Stamping with Love

Happy Tuesday!!  I am so glad to have a card to share with you today.  In fact, I have two cards and some awesome artwork to share!  Over the weekend I got to have a friend and her daughter over to visit the stamp room and we had such fun.  While my little friend was busy coloring, so were the moms!  I finally got to play with some of the things in my Occasions Catalog order and the first order of business was the Love is Kindness set.  I love this set!!

Stamped with LoveI pulled out my new Pink Pirouette Blendabilities and combined them with Rich Razzleberry Blendabilities to create this fun bouquet.  Just a little gray added onto the newspaper part of the image for depth and Old Olive on the leaves and stems.  I cut the image out with my Ovals Framelits and then backed them with a Tea Lace Doily.  I popped on a Silver Metallic Mini Clothespin and tied on some Basic Gray Baker’s Twine (left from a Paper Pumpkin Kit – these kits are a gift that keeps on giving!).

Stamping with LoveMy friend Ani colored the second image and pulled out a button from my stash and tied on Baker’s Twine.  I LOVE her take on this too!  Oh…and she had never colored with Blendabilities before and is a new stamper.  These markers really are great no matter what your experience.  For those of you who love cooking as much as stamping, make sure you check out Ani’s blog, Cook on a Whim.  I definitely think I get the better end of the deal when she shares her cooking with my family!!  A little coloring in exchange for Gumbo, homemade cheesecake, Peach Bourbon BBQ Sauce….just to name a few.

Stamping with Love - AvaAnd this is what her daughter worked on while we were stamping away.  Hmmm…do you see more new stamps?!!!  I have some fun ideas with these!! I think Miss Ava did a fabulous job, don’t you?!  For the record, the boys (my two and Ani’s son) decided they needed some guy time and were watching a movie.  Their loss!!  *smile*

Now you may have noticed that I have a new look today.  Over the last few days I have been updating the blog.  Sorry if you have come over during any of the construction!!  I still have a few things to adjust but I think that I’m almost done.  I would LOVE to hear what you think!!  To make it easier for you to follow me, I have added more social media buttons in my sidebar to include one for Bloglovin (email followers will need to click over to see them).  Also, I have an easier e-mail link there too.  I hope this makes coming to Stampin’ on the Fly a more intuitive and friendly experience!

Guess whose week it is to be the hostess at Freshly Made Sketches?!  Mine!  I’m so excited for this sketch and I hope you like it as much as I do.  I created the big gray panel as a place to put DSP or you can put something with pattern on the edges like I did.  The circle can be any shape…just use your creativity!

FMS169 - Easter Wreath

So I know it might be a little early for an Easter wreath but this could just as easily be for spring. Or change the colors for another season.  I created the wreath using strands from Burlap Ribbon.  I created the purple flower to mimic the pattern of a hydrangea and added the little yellow flowers.  All of them use the flower punch from my Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.  Let me know if you want to see more details on how I made the wreath and if you would like me to make a video to show you.  I added the sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes onto a banner that uses the Banner Punch to flag the end.  The background DSP is from the Moonlight Paper Pack.

I always love getting to be the sketch hostess.  You always show me ways to use a sketch that I never considered when I created it.  Such fun!  The design team has done exactly that and you are sure to find yet another Pin-able card from them!

Well, I finished my 9-month check yesterday.  That simulator really does dish it out!  Let’s see, engine failures (that almost goes without saying), dual hydraulic system failures (that makes for A LOT of work) and some other “fun” things.  But now it is done until the next cycle.  Always good to get it finished!  My kids are home from school on yet another snow day.  Hoping to get to the crafting table and maybe they can even join me!  My last Dirty Dozen projects go up tomorrow over at Splitcoaststampers and I hope you’ll go take a peek!

Thanks so much for stopping in today.  Thanks for sharing your time with me!  Don’t forget to let me know what you think about the wreath!  See you soon!

Welcome to 2015!!  Ok….I am a little late to tell you Happy New Year but I hope that your year has started off well.  I am returning from my hiatus to bring you this fabulous sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  It is no surprise that it is awesome since it is from the creative mind of the oh-so-talented Amy O’Neill.  The color queen has come up with this fun and cool sketch….perfect for your new year inspiration!

FMS168 - Love

I thought this sketch would be super fun with the cards from Project Life.  I know these are meant for memory keeping but they are also so great as elements on cards.  I thumbed through my Playground set and found three that I thought worked really well together.  I really loved the heart page and chose it to be the focal panel.  I pulled out a mini clothespin that I had from a tag kit and added a little bit of Epic Day Washi Tape to the top to make it coordinate with the cards.  I thought the background needed a little something too so I embosses the Whisper White panel with the Large Polka Dots embossing folder.  Finally, I cut out the sentiment with my retired Expressions Thinlits.

139325G

While this word thinlit isn’t available anymore, there is a new set that would be tons of fun for a card like this.  The thinlits are called Hello You and they have a coordinating stamp set called Crazy About You.  Think of all the quick and fun little cards you can make just like this one for various occasions.  Just change up the PL cards and sentiments.  And just in case you missed the sounds of happiness all over, the Stampin’ Up Occasions Catalog is now live.  My order is going in today and you can be it will be expedited.

During the holidays I made exactly one card.  This one.  I was gone for much of my boys’ break and spent some serious time on the road with United.  The highlight of all my travels was a visit with my Freshly Made Sketches friend Linda Callahan!  She is such everything you expect from her blog and cards!  Funny, sweet and such a joy to spend time with!  I have a few more days of busy stuff with United and then some serious crafting time!  Every nine months, pilots have a check ride and mine is next Monday and Tuesday.  Lots of studying to do and then time at our training center.  Hoping my Occasions order will be waiting when I get home from that!!!

I know you are going to have fun with our sketch this week.  The design team certainly did and their work is what you have come to expect….awesome!  Thanks so much for stopping in today. I’ll see you again soon!

Fancy Friday – Joyful Tag Card

I am so excited to be able to share with you this month’s project with for our Fancy Friday monthly hop!  If you just came over from the amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  My friends and I want to be able to share with you our ideas in a monthly format.  We will use different themes each month – sometimes colors, sometimes a sketch, sometimes a stamp set focus.  The one thing you can count on is that it will be fancy!  Over the last year “fancy” became our word to describe the best projects, the best new clothes, even the best pedicure colors.  Now we want to share with you our take on “fancy” each month.  This month our theme is “Tags Tags Tags”!  ‘Tis the season for tags and they are not only great for packaging but also as an element on a card.

FF Dec - Joyful TagI used a mish-mash of things that were on my stamp table for this card.  Does this card feel familiar to you??  That is because the background of the card was a cast off from this card.  I first created this layer using Very Vanilla and then realized that I wanted it in Whisper White.  So this version has been sitting on my “to use” pile for months.  Well, I’m trying to move through that pile so I pulled it out again.  I also used elements from the awesome kits that I have been getting.  The “joy”  and the snowflake are from the Watercolor Winter card kit.  That kit is the creative gift that keeps on giving!  I made a tag from Gold Foil using the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch and round the edges with my Corner Rounder Punch.  I attached the vellum snowflake and the gold thread using a gold Metallic Clothespin.  I used the Baker’s Twine left behind from pulling off the gold thread (Gold Metallic Baker’s Twine) to attach to the top of the tag.

I hope that you find inspiration in this card.  With almost all my holiday crafting done, I had fun just “playing” to create this.  Combining elements, playing with textures…these are great to do.  I hope that you will have some time set aside during this holiday season to create just for the fun of it.

I have no posts planned over the next couple of weeks but if I manage to sneak in some crafting time of my own, I’ll be sure to share.  I hope that this season of joy finds you surrounded by love!  Thank you so much for visiting with me today!

Okay, off to go visit the awesome Mercedes Weber!  You will be wow’d, as always!

I can hardly believe how time is flying up to Christmas!!  Is it only me?!  I mean really….a week left.  Yikes!  So we have a great deal for you over at Freshly Made Sketches.  Narelle, the queen of gorgeous layers and unbelievable fussy cutting, has created our sketch for this week.  But not only for this week.  We are leaving this one open throughout the holiday season.  This gives you time to ponder over all the fabulous ways to use her design’s layers and elements!  Really…there is just no reason you can’t participate!  *smile*

FMS167 - Christmas Sled

So as I played around with layers for this, I still had a sled on my table from the Watercolor Winter card kit.  Actually two since there was an extra in the kit.  I had one colored Cherry Cobbler already and I took the other and used Early Espresso to color it.  Then I cut off the extra pieces and put it up on Dimensionals (cut small).  I love this sled.  A lot!  I couldn’t be done until it had a rope to pull the sled now could I?  So I added one out of Linen Thread.  I just attached the knows with Tomboy Multipurpose Glue.  I used this great print from Under the Tree DSP and just cut the flag end by hand.  A Basic Gold Button and a sentiment from Petite Pairs are a great finish.  Now I have to admit that I haven’t used a lot of Garden Green in a long time but I just love this DSP and this green is perfect with Kraft!  Here is a closeup of the sled.

Sled closeup

So as usual the design team has created all kinds of variation on this sketch and ALL of them are great.  I know I sound like a broken record on this every week but seriously, they are the best team!  Make sure you say hi to them all and let us see your amazing creations!

I will be flying LOTS over the next couple of weeks.  Gone a lot more than home.  I look forward to happy holiday faces and I’m really hoping for happy holiday travel weather too!  I have one more post this week on Friday with my Fancy Friday friends.  Until then, I hope your week is fantastic!

Amazing Birthday in Gold

As I was working through editing some pictures, I realized that I had forgotten to share some of my Convention Display Board Samples.  So I thought it might be fun to pull one out and show you.  I am on “the road” right now (and most of the rest of the month) but don’t think I have forgotten about posting.  *smile*

Amazing Birthday - Amazing GoldI just love the gold on this!  I used Gold Soiree DSP as the starting point for inspiration and attached it to a Whisper White card base.  Then I stamped this awesome sentiment in Gold Encore Ink onto Whisper White and heat embossed it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  The result is so pretty and much more dramatic in person!  I framed the sentiment with Gold Foil and added on Gold Sequin Trim and a Vintage Faceted Button tied with the gold filaments from the Gold Baker’s Twine.  Simple to make and so striking because of the gold shine!

I have gotten pretty luck with weather in the system over the last few days and have had some great flights!  I love seeing families reunited at the end of a day when I walk to our hotel transportation.  This is a magical time of year to be an airline pilot.  If you are traveling during this season I do have a selfish favor to ask of you.  Please, please be patient if there are weather, maintenance or system delays.  All of the airlines are flying full schedules and there are LOTS of crews who will not be home with their families on special holidays.  Even though we really know how important it is for you to get to your destination, we also know that the most important gift WE can give to you is safety.  So we will make hard decisions that might delay flights or even cancel them.  We do this because you matter!  I know that I have a simple criteria for flying.  If I would not put my family on the plane, I will not allow YOUR family to fly on it.  So I ask you patience if you encounter issues.  Really…we want everything to go on time too!  It gets us home sooner to our families!  I cannot tell you how much it means when people thank us for a safe flight.  We care about on time and we strive for no bumps or issues but mostly we want you safe.

Ok…back to your regularly scheduled stamping blog.  Thanks for humoring me!  I’ll be back on Wednesday with our last Freshly Made Sketches challenge of this year.  You are going to love our sketch!  And I’ll be here Friday with a Fancy Friday hop.  We have a great theme for you this month.  Thanks so much for stopping in.  See you again sooN!

The extraordinary Karren Johnson has created this fun and classic looking sketch for us at Freshly Made Sketches.  As always, the sketch seemed to show up just in time to help my creative spark.  In fact, it was the start of some excellent card making and I actually finished my cards for Dirty Dozen and then got to next week’s FMS card too.  Ah, the power of a great sketch!  Karren is such a clever and creative card-maker (never mind being an extraordinary enabler on crafting products!).  Make sure you go over to thank her for this fabulous inspiration!

FMS166 - Merry Tree

I went back to the Color Me Christmas stamp set and the retired Season of Style DSP.  Much like with the Santa a couple of weeks ago, this image was another NBUS and just called out to be colored with Blendabilities!  I pulled out the Old Olive Collection and added in some Cherry Cobbler ornaments and a Daffodil Delight star (the tree base is the Crumb Cake collection).  The sentiment is from the ever versatile set Petite Pairs.  I have a special place in my stamping heart for great sentiment sets and this one is so flexible and fun.  I tied on some Early Espresso Baker’s Twin and added a Cherry Cobbler button.  The tree was fussy cut and popped up on Dimensionals.  The star is on a tiny piece from the edges of the Dimensional sheet.  The whole image is up on Dimensionals too.  I almost forgot to share something really important with this too…..  Did you see the message about Blendabilities being ok to be used with many of the SU basic ink pads?  Yeah, well it makes coordinating a breeze.  I used my Early Espresso Classic Pad to stamp the tree and it just held beautifully while I was coloring.  So awesome!!

With all that I keep getting drawn to use my Blendabilities, I cannot tell you how excited I was to hear about NEW BLENDIES coming in the Occasions Catalog.  Lighter color collections coming to  add even more depth and dimension to the coloring palette.  I’ve been resisting making a pre-order but not sure how much longer I can hold out.  I have a lot of flying over the next couple of weeks and that will seriously impact any stamping.  Truthfully the only thing keeping me from ordering!

I just know you are going to have a great time using this sketch and I can’t wait to see the gallery this week.  And oh, the cards from the design team.  How do they just get more fantastic each week?!  Love those talented and amazing stampers!  Well, I hope that your week is going well.  I appreciate you dropping by today and look forward to seeing you again soon.

FMS Final 165-001

Ready for a fresh new sketch?  Well, Freshly Made Sketches has just the thing for you!!  Our hostess this week is Cindy Lovell.  She always has a modern take on her cards and they are fantastic!  Make sure you go over to see her work!

FMS165 - Happy Christmas

I had a class this last weekend for my local stampers creating cards with the Watercolor Winter Card Kit from the Holiday Catalog.  I had so much fun and the cards from this kit are amazing.  Well, I think sometimes I should have a special stamp that says “does not follow simple directions well” because I started making changes to the kit using all the elements.  For the record, I DID make a few following the designs from the kit because they really are great.  But when I saw Cindy’s sketch, I had a natural modification.  I took the white card base from the kit and attached the snowflake.  This “happy” is SOOOOO pretty and sparkly and all I had to do was punch it out of the paper full of other great words!  The “Christmas” is from a retired set and I stamped using Gold Encore and embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I confess that I hoard stamp sets with Christmas sentiments for just this reason.  I mix and match every year!  I love this block font with the script cut out.  I added on a few gold sequins to help match the sketch.

Watercolor Winter Variation

The day after the class, my mom was finishing up her cards (with 20 cards, it was a lot to finish in three hours).  While she was busily stamping, I worked on my FMS card…and then I kept going.  I created another card in almost the same way.  I trimmed the edge off the snowflake and used the same sentiment combination for another clean and very mailable card.  All I can say is that this kit was an excellent purchase!  For those who love  cute and “Pin-able” cards, this kit will make you look like you spent hours designing.  For those like me who don’t follow directions well, there are lots of fun elements to mix and match.

My mom is leaving today and we had such a fun time with her.  I plan to head back to the stamp room this week and hope to have a few things to share with you soon.  I think my mojo took a bit of a vacation too and I like to see it again!  If you know where it went, please send it home!  *smile* I hope that you are having a great week.  Thanks so much for stopping in.  See you soon!

FMS Final 164-001

Another week has flown by and here we are at Wednesday already.  And the sweet and talented Jen Brum is our sketch hostess this week at Freshly Made Sketches.  Jen makes the most wonderful cards and I love her clean style.  And her boys (big and little) are huge aviation fans.  Needless to say when I was able to meet up with her at the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum over the summer, our kids were fast friends!!  I love the friendships I get to make through this hobby of mine!!

FMS164 - Skinny Santa

Ok, I have a confession to make.  For those of you who were with me during my Artisan Design Team year, you saw the boxes of Stampin’ goodness and all of the incredible things I got to work with during my tenure.  The down side (the ONLY down side) is that I never felt like I got to give some of the stamps I received their due.  So with my apologies to those who prefer “current” products, I am having so much fun going back to some of the stamps that have never even seen ink.  Oh, the travesty of an unused stamp.  There is even a name for this terrible syndrome:  Never Been Used Stamp or Stuff (NBUS).  Now it is even more fun to combine the NBUS with something new like Blendabilities!!  That is what I did here.  This Santa comes from the set Color Me Christmas from last year’s Holiday Catalog and the sentiment is from Oh, Goodie.  They were meant to go together and aren’t they fun.  The paper is from the same catalog, the Season of Style DSP.  I took my Skin Tone Blendabilities and colored Santa’s face and added rosy cheeks with Melon Mambo (the lightest color).  His suit and the candy cane are colored using the Cherry Cobbler set.  Such easy coloring but so much fun!  The image and the sentiment were stamped using Momento Tuxedo Black and I tied on some leftover Black Twine from my September Paper Pumpkin and added a button.  Now is it just me or does this guy remind you of Santa in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer?  He is still a little bit of a skinny Santa!  Good thing he has another month for Mrs. Claus to get him to eat!

Now go and take a look at YOUR NBUS and see if adding Blendabilities will make you want to pull them right out.  And guess what??!!  NOW is the time to get Blendabilities.  Actually, December 1st is the day.  Because on December 1st (the last day of the Online Extravaganza), you can get 12 Blendabilities Assortments at at 30% discount.  That is a crazy low price.  You can see all the details plus the other sale items HERE.  You can order at my online store.  These are as supplies last so you need to get in on the deals as soon as you can!!

For those of you in the U.S., I hope you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday.  And to all of you who stop in to visit, I am incredibly grateful for your support and kindness.  I count you all amongst my many blessings!!

This month we are focusing on “pretty packages”.  Talk about timely!  I know you will love the ideas from our whole hop so make sure you go visit everyone!

FF Nov - Holiday Flower Bag

I am, and have been, in love with these Mini Muslin Bags from the day they first came out.  They are perfect for so many things so I always have a package of them on hand.  You can go minimalist with them or deck them out.  Either way, they are fabulous every single time!  For today’s project I kind of split the middle.  I stamped in a simple way but added some special embellishments.  It looks fancy (well, it IS Fancy Friday) but still not time consuming.  Win!  So the how-to.  I started with my bag and put a scrap inside to help make stamping easier.  I inked up the sentiment from Bright & Beautiful with Mossy Meadow and stamped right onto the bag.  Then I took some Always Artichoke Seam Binding and some Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding and distressed them.  Just sprinkle with water, scrunch and dry.  With the Cherry, I pulled on a thread from the end of the ribbon and started bunching the ribbon together a bit.  Then I just wrapped it upon itself and hot glued it together from behind.  The Silicone Craft Sheet makes this a total breeze!  Then I took the Artichoke binding and some Venetian Crochet Trim (I’m addicted to this stuff!) and clipped them in a gold Mini Metallic Clothespin.  I hot glued the flower next to the clothespin and then glued the whole thing to the bag.  The Basic Pearl was colored with my Daffodil Delight Blendabilities.  I did add a touch of glue even though it has its own adhesive just to make sure it stays put.

FF Nov - Holiday Flower Closeup

Obviously my version today has a Christmas flair but this could easily be modified for many other uses by just changing the sentiment and seam binding colors.  See, now you will want to have a package of these bags at the ready too!

Okay, off to go visit the awesome Mercedes Weber!  You will love her project!
