Holly Jolly in Silver & Gold

Holly Jolly Gold

I’m here today with two cards that are pretty much exactly the same but with a very different look.  Let’s face it, this is the time of year to work smarter not harder!  So the basics….  I stamped the awesome snowflake from Holly Jolly Greeting with Versamark and heat embossed with Gold (and Silver) Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  The image panels were cut out using the Stitched Rectangles Die (Simon Says Stamp).  Using the lovely sentiment dies from the Wonderful Wreath Framelits, I cut multiple layers from Thick Whisper White.  I then stacked them up and glued them together using the Fine Tip Glue Pen.  For the top layer, I used Watercolor Paper (Fabriano) and Silver Glimmer paper respectively.  On the watercolor paper, I colored the sentiment with Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Mowed Lawn) and an Aquapainter, dabbing some off to create an ombre look.  Once dry, I covered the sentiment with Clear Wink of Stella (coming in the new Occasions catalog!).  I added sequins onto each to add a little more shine.

Holly Jolly Silver

So there you have it!  Two versions of the same card.  Easy to duplicate and fun to make!  I think I need to make a few more!

Hope you had a great week.  Thanks for stopping in today!

FMS216 - Merry Poinsettia

Today I have such a treat for you!  Another fabulous sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  It is brought to you by our sketch hostess Rita Wright.  As always, she comes up with something fun and fresh!  Love it!

I tried to keep it clean and played with using watercoloring as one of the “panels”.  I like the effect and how the stitched frame works with it.  I layered two Stitched Rectangle Dies (Simon Says Stamp) to create the frame…easy peasy.  All the stamps from from Paper Pumpkin.  The poinsettia is the flower from October’s kit layered and colored with Zig Markers.  The holly and sentiment come from the November kit.  The picture doesn’t do it any justice but the flower and holly are topped with Clear Wink of Stella and the sparkle in person is lovely.  I cheated a little on the scalloped element because I just could not seem to make it work with any strips of paper there.  So I added Gold Thread instead.  Hope Rita gives me a little latitude on that!  A little gold sequin in the center of the flower ties into the gold.

I hope you enjoy this week’s inspiration and all that the design team has created.  I’ll be back on Friday with a couple more quick holiday cards because, well, it is time for QUICK holiday cards now isn’t it?!  *smile*  See you then!

CTS#151 - Butterflies

I had some time to stamp last week and thought I would give the latest sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch a go.  All the circles were a little daunting at first but then I found my butterfly stamp from Garden in Bloom.  It works perfectly.  Using my handy dandy Misti, I was able to line these up just by moving the card stock in fixed intervals.  Worked pretty well!  The butterflies are stamped first using Pool Party and then the outlines were stamped with Momento Tuxedo Black.  I cut the panel using  the Stitched Rectangles die from Simon Says Stamp and added the sentiment from the CAS-ual Fridays set Mon Ami.  I added a black background panel and some black sequins from the Metallics Sequins pack.

CTS_151Hope you enjoy this one today.  There is still some time to give the sketch a go and you’ll be happy you did.  Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  Until then, have a great day!

I hope your December has been good to you so far!  I am having a hard time accepting that it is already December…surely I am not alone!  I have not had a lot of crafting time over the last week but I’m hoping to get back to it today.  If you have had the same thing going on, I have just the solution for you.  This week’s sketch from Freshly Made Sketches will get you moving right along!  The incredible Jen Mitchell is our hostess this week and she has created one that is sure to inspire.

FMS215 - Beautiful Hello

I am still completely obsessed with this flower from Altenew’s Beautiful Day.  For today’s card, I stamped it onto White Vellum with Versamark Ink and embossed it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Pretty, isn’t it?!  I picked the backdrop of Winter Wonderland DSP because the prints are so subtle but yet add so much.  Using the Banners Framelits, I cut some Very Vanilla card stock and stamped the sentiment from Watercolor Wishes with Versafine Onyx Black ink.  I added a little border of Gold Foil to the DSP which coordinates nicely with the embossed flower and gives the print later a little more stability for raising it up on Dimensionals.  The center of the flower is a Basic Pearl that I colored with a Sharpie black marker.  I love how it brings your eye more to the flower!

It was nice taking a break from Christmas card stamping but I need to get back to work if I’m to get stuff mailed in time.  Please tell me I’m not the only one with lots more to stamp!!

I hope you enjoy this week’s sketch and the lovely work from our Design Team.  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  See you soon!!  Happy stamping!

FMS214 - Butterfly

Happy Wednesday!  I hope your week is going well.  For those of you in the US, I’m sure you are getting ready for Thanksgiving and I hope yours is safe and happy!  I’m the sketch hostess over at Freshly Made Sketches  this week and I thought I’d give you one that wasn’t too complicated.  Hopefully you’ll have some time in the hustle and bustle of your week to join in!

My card is one of those that was just impossible to photograph.  I wish I could figure out why that happens but this one is so much prettier in person.  I embossed Thick Whisper White using the Softly Falling folder and then cut out the butterfly with Bold Butterfly Framelits.  Behind the butterfly, I used distress inks and sponged a rainbow of colors onto watercolor paper.  Then I topped the colors with Wink of Stella to make it sparkle.  I added some sequins left over from the Watercolor Wishes kit and a sentiment from And Many More stamped in Bermuda Bay.

I hope that you enjoy this sketch!  I know the team has done their usual amazing work and you will love the inspiration as always!

I’m off the blog for a few days to enjoy time with family.  Thanks so much for stopping in.  See you soon!

Beautiful Day

Beautiful Day

A quick card for today.  I had some time to stamp last week and wanted to play with a new set I got.  I was the lucky winner of an Altenew Instagram giveaway and used the gift certificate on this stamp set called Beautiful Day.  The images in the set really are gorgeous!  Even better, they layer really well so you can put together quick cards that look hard.  I can’t wait to spend more time with it but this turned out pretty even with my limited time. I used Distress Inks to layer the colors.  Two different blues stamped on watercolor paper that I had dampened with a clean paint brush.  The leaves are the same color.  The first layer was stamped off and the next layer was full strength on the Mowed Lawn ink.  Once the paper was dry, I stamped the sentiment using Basic Gray ink.  I sewed around the edges to add a little something extra and added some sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.  I know you’ll see more with this set in the future!

Back tomorrow with a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  I’m the hostess this week and I have one that I think you’ll enjoy.  Until then, have a, well, beautiful day!  Thanks for stopping in!

Fancy Friday – Joy

Fancy Friday – Joy published on 5 Comments on Fancy Friday – Joy

I know it isn’t the last Friday of the month yet but the Fancy Friday team decided to hop a little early this month (and we will next month too) in order to get ahead for the holidays.  And you know what?!  I have some fun news.  This team of amazing designers has just added some new fanciness!!!  Many of you know that Fancy Friday developed after the 2013-14 Artisan Design Team’s tenure was up.  We enjoyed hopping together so much that we wanted to keep sharing with you once a month.  Some of our team has needed to take a hiatus so we thought we should add stampers to the team that you are sure to love!  The one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy!  If you hopped over from my dear friend Cindy, welcome to the next stop.  For November we are creating a Fancy Christmas, but with a twist.  We are using non-traditional colors and hope to inspire you to try some of them!

FF Nov - Joy

I have to say that I went pretty far out of my normal Christmas color scheme on this one but I love it so much!  I have told you many times that Holly Jolly Greetings is my favorite stamp of the Holiday Catalog.  This is totally why!  I love the snowflake (a lot) and I love the versatility of the sentiments.  And they will be great sentiments for years to come.  You see, I tend to “collect” Christmas sets.  Especially the ones with great sentiments.  They rarely leave once I have gotten them.  That also makes me picky when it comes to sets because I have so many from previous years.  But this one…..unique and flexible!  And guess what?  It is one of the continued and not retiring sets from the Holiday Catalog so I think Stampin’ Up agrees!

So how did I create this?  Using watercolor paper to start, I placed down some water on the paper.  Then using Distress Inks, I added three different colors (Spiced Marmalade, Ripe Persimmon, Picked Raspberry) to the stamp.  I spritzed the stamp with water and stamped.  I did the same with the “Joy” and then took a wet paint brush and added a little ink then splattered it.  The clear sequins are from the Metallic Sequins pack and I just love the little bit of special something they add!  The panels are cut with Stitched Rectangles Dies (SSS).  The card base is Tangerine Tango and I think it is a nice foundation for these crazy colors.  This is a fun card to make and I may play around with some other color combinations as I get more serious in my Christmas card production.

As you hop around, please make sure you add a special welcome to Allison, Kaitlyn, Krista and Marisa.  These ladies are seriously talented and totally fancy!!

The fabulous Mercedes Weber is up next!   Wait until you see what she created!

CTS#149 - Amazing Mon Ami

I got some time to sit down and stamp last week and I saw the fabulous sketch over at CAS(E) this Sketch…I knew I had to play along.  But what to make?!  I also saw that Michele from CAS-ual Fridays Stamps is hosting a Calling All Sistahs Blog Hop for a very special release.  In honor of Michele and her amazing cause, I thought I should make a card with one of her sets.  Please read her story and the background on this hop HERE.  I am in awe that she has taken this news and turned it into a way to help others.  I have no doubt that her mission to get us all to check “the sistahs” will help someone else have early detection!

I used the Mon Ami stamp set…such a beautiful image collection!  I stamped the flower 3 times with Versamark ink and then heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I colored the back of the flowers using Zig Clean Color Pens.  It is only one color that I used to create this ombre look.  Then I cut them out with the matching Mon Ami dies.  I stamped the sentiment with Picked Raspberry Distress Ink using my Misti to make sure I got perfect coverage.  The Stitched Rectangles made another appearance to add a little interest.  Finally, I added Silver Thread (SU) and silver sequins.

CTS_149Michele has a product launch today and she will be sharing some of the proceeds with very good causes.  You can read all about it from her and her talented team.  So go hop with them, get inspired and make sure you take care of your self check!

I got called out on a trip so I will not have a card for tomorrow’s Freshly Made Sketches.  With any luck, I will have time on Thursday to catch up and join in.  It is a really fabulous sketch!!  I’ll definitely be back on Friday with a new Fancy Friday blog hop and we have some fun new things to share with you!!  Until then, have a great week!

Watercolor Drummer

Watercolor Drummer

I told you a few post ago when I was coloring this adorable little drummer boy that my oldest son was a bit put out that I had made the drummer blonde like his brother.  So the other day I had some time to color while he was home.  He colored one version of himself and I colored another.  This is the one I ended up with!  I used my new Tim Holtz Distress Inks to create the background and my Zig Clean Color Markers for the images.  Super fun and pretty quick too!  I cut the image sheet with my Stitched Rectangles from Simon Says Stamps (I’m addicted to these dies) and then embossed the base (Night of Navy) with the Softly Falling Embossing Folder.  My oldest gave it his thumbs up of approval!!

Quick post…still recovering from the 3 days of simulator madness.  Fortunately it all went well and I’m good to go for another 9 months.  Back next week with some more fun.  Until then, thanks for stopping in!

Stamp:  Drummer Boy (WPlus9); Ink:  Black WPlus9 Pure Color Dye Ink, Versafine Onyx Black, Zig Clean Color Markers, Tim Holtz Distress Ink; Paper: Fabriano Watercolor, Night of Navy; Accessories: Big Shot, Drummer Boy Dies(WPlus9), Stitched Rectangles (SSS), Zig Water Pen, Dimensionals, Softly Falling Embossing Folder (SU)

FMS212 - Hydrandgeas

As promised, I have a fun card to share with you today plus a video.  We have this super sketch this week at Freshly Made Sketches from the queen of layers, Narelle.  She makes layering look effortless and always elegant!  As for me….it wasn’t working.  So I took a step back and simply layered the images instead.  I hope she doesn’t mind too much.  Here is the how to on my card:

I’m still in Denver taking my check ride (3 days of fun in the simulator) but I did get to have coffee with the amazing Kim Singdahlsen from the team.  I tell you what, it made facing all those engine out approaches much more tolerable!!  *smile*

Ok….back to studying.  I hope you enjoy the video and this fun sketch.  Go check out all the inspiration from the team, of course, too!  See you again Friday with another fun card!
