Another fun week in store over at Freshly Made Sketches! Our sketch hostess this week is the fabulous Jen Mitchell and, no surprise, she has a clean and modern sketch for us this week. Love it!
I thought it would be fun to color an image on the big panel of the sketch and then add a die as the sentiment. I went with this pretty flower from Mama Elephant out of the Butterfly Kisses set. I wanted to work on my coloring for white flowers. I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink to color. I think the effect is pretty and I look forward to playing some more with this concept. The sentiment comes from the retiring Greetings Thinlits from SU and was cut from the same watercolor paper as the image.
Short post today. Working this week! I hope you have fun with the sketch. Make sure you go tell Jen and the team how much you love their inspiration! See you soon.
Hope your week has been moving along well so far! I finally got into my craft room yesterday (after way too many days away) and got right to work on this sketch from Freshly Made Sketches. I am the hostess this week and I went with a sketch that leave open space to be filled with whatever you want. I opted for this pretty flower from Altenew.
How is your crafty mojo when you have taken a big break from making stuff? I have to admit that mine seems to be a little slow off the starting block. So I went with my happy place and chose to watercolor. This flower from Botanical Garden (Altenew) is so pretty, don’t you think? I used my Zig Clean Color Pens to color it. The flower was first stamped in Versamark and then heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I think it adds an elegant touch. For the little sentiment banner, I pulled out a brand new stamp that I got from Skipping Stones Design called Healing Wings. I’ll be doing more with sets from this company in the upcoming weeks so stay tuned for more on that. I just thought this sentiment was perfect! Actually, I can see me using this sentiment A LOT!!! I added a strip of gold DSP down the side and put the card on a Night of Navy base. You can see the gold a bit better in this flat picture…it really adds a touch of elegance to an otherwise simple design. I hope that you enjoy this sketch. The team has done their usual amazing work and their interpretations are sure to inspire!
Happy middle of the week to you! I hope your week is going well. As with most Wednesdays, I’m here with your mid-week inspiration from Freshly Made Sketches. Our own amazingly talented queen of layers, Narelle Farrugia, has created this super cool sketch with layered rectangles. So many ways to go with this!
I thought I would try a collage style background using this flower from Beautiful Day by Altenew. It remains one of my favorite stamp sets! I recently ordered some of Altenew’s inks and I pulled out Coral Berry for this card. Isn’t it the most gorgeous pink?! I stamped the solid image all over some Thick Whisper White Card Stock (SU) using that ink and then stamped the line image in Versafine Onyx Black ink randomly to fill in spaces. I used the sentiment from the set and stamped it with the Versafine too, then layered the sentiment and the image panel onto Basic Black layers. I added a little bit of black thread and some sequins as a finishing touch.
This kind of card is super easy to create and you can use a variety of stamp sets to get this effect. I’m really happy with how this came out and want to try some other sets and colors! Ok….you know the drill. Go check out the awesome projects from the rest of the team…you’ll be happy you did!
So glad you stopped in today. I hope you like this one! Back soon with another card….see you then!
Take a look at this cool sketch we have this week over at Freshly Made Sketches!! No surprise that it comes from the incredibly awesome Karren Johnson who always wows me with her superb coloring and fabulous designs. The little angle on the back panel provides so many opportunities to add interest to your card!
Recently I got this beautiful image from Mama Elephant called Butterfly Kisses. It has this gorgeous dogwood flower plus some butterflies. But it also comes with a fantastic sentiment set. Totally had to have it! I was stamping with a friend yesterday and she pulled out this flower to color with my new Chameleon pens (I worked on another project that I’ll share soon). We were discussing how pretty this would be if colored in white on a dark background and an idea was born!! I stamped the flower using Versamark ink onto Basic Gray card stock and heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. They using a Blender Pen and White Craft Ink (SU), I colored the flower and the leaves. I went back and added Pear Pizzazz ink over the leaves and put in a touch of Blushing Bride near the centers of the flowers. This technique has been around for a while but somehow it seems fresh to me when coloring on the gray. In person, it almost has a chalk look. I felt like the flower petals needed a little something extra so I added Wink of Stella on top of them. SOOOOO pretty in person! Also, nearly impossible to photograph….here is my attempt. If you have seen Stella in person then you know how gorgeous it is! I chose a Pink Pirouette back panel to pull from the pink in the flower and then put it on a Basic Gray base. The sentiment is from an old Paper Pumpkin set (don’t forget to pull those out….they are consistently just the right sentiment for me!). I added some Sparkling Clear Sequins from Pretty Pink Posh to finish. They look a bit silver in the photo but they are really a pale gray, see through sequin….beautiful!
I hope you have a great time with this sketch! The team has shown all kinds of ways to use it and I know you will show us even more. I’ll be back on Friday to share some more of this week’s stamping. Until then, thanks so much for stopping by!
Another week, another amazing sketch from Freshly Made Sketches. This time it is the lovely Jen Brum as our sketch hostess and she has created one that will ensure a varied and interesting gallery. I have been in a bit of a stamping slump (mostly due to lack of time) and so when I sat down to finally stamp yesterday, I was a bit overwhelmed with too many ideas and found myself stuck doing nothing instead. Ever have that happen??!! I did what any good stamper does and fessed up to the team, lol! And the wonderful Linda Callahan broke the code for me with three little letters. D.S.P. Yep, I needed a directional push and that was the right one. Yay for stamping friends!
I went over to my stash of papers and found this pretty spring set from last year called Painted Blooms. Once I chose the Wild Wasabi stripes and the Daffodil watercolor solid, I was back on track. I kept rummaging through some unused things and found these leftover flowers from my Watercolor Wishes kit. The sentiment from Watercolor Wishes was just the right size and I added sequins from the kit too. All of the rectangles are cut using Stitched Rectangles dies from Simon Says Stamp.
I’m sure you will have lots of ideas the minute you see this sketch but if in doubt, listen to Linda. This is a great sketch for using some of your pretty DSPs. Hope you have fun and I’ll see you in the gallery.

Do you ever feel like the weeks are flying by? Yeah…me too. Something about this time of year, I suppose. Over the weekend my boys started up the spring soccer season with a tournament and then the whole family headed out for a couple of days of much needed vacation. We joined some friends in a cabin at a local state park for an amazing time! Unplugged and out in a beautiful location with great friends! FABULOUS!! We hiked, made s’mores at a big fire the dads built, and enjoyed the company of some of our favorite people. Now that we are back to reality, I’m trying to catch up a bit but out for a trip later today. Maybe I’ll catch up next week??? Sure, ok! *smile*
In any case, my friends over at Freshly Made Sketches have a great sketch for jump starting your creativity this week. The talented, fabulous and oh so creative Cindy Hall is our sketch hostess this week and her sketch is sure to get you moving right to your stamp room!
My card, thankfully, popped right into my head when I saw the sketch. I just got this awesome little plane set called Bon Voyage from Lawn Fawn and I pulled out my Copics to color it. I thought the plane and the clouds were perfect for the set of three on the sketch. Now I have to confess that when I started editing my photo, I thought it looked like something was missing and I realized that I should have included a sentiment. Ah well…I will include a fun one inside instead. I used the coordinating dies for this set to cut out the images with my Big Shot, added some Black Baker’s Twine and attached them all to a panel cut using Stitched Rectangles Dies (SSS). The base of the card is Real Red.
Alright…off to get ready to fly into Denver and beyond. Hoping the blizzard there doesn’t cause too much havoc! Make sure you take a look at all the DT’s inspiration this week! Have fun stamping!
With this trip and then Easter, I won’t be back until next week. But I have some great ideas that are all ready to hit the paper when I return! Until then, I hope you have a safe and blessed Easter.
Well, all I can say is thank goodness for Freshly Made Sketches!! The beginning of the flying month held 8 out of 11 days gone from home so I can safely say that stamping was pretty much off the table. Then I came home to a house full of sick boys (big and little, alike!) and the last few days haven’t allowed much time to myself. Thankfully, I got to the stamp room for a few minutes yesterday and got to try my take at Kim‘s super fun sketch. I was feeling absolutely NO mojo when I walked in. Totally distracted and my brain racing will all the stuff I need to get done. But her sketch seemed so perfect when I looked around at my stamps.
I had this old retired set, Betsy’s Blossoms, sitting in my closet but it virtually jumped off the shelf for this one. I thought it might be fun to use it with updated colors and I fell in love with it all over again! I stamped the flower in Watermelon Wonder, added mask and then stamped the leaves using Momento Tuxedo Black ink. I cut a piece of Basic Black to look like a label and added the sentiment from Lil’ Inker Designs Fancy Feathers set. It was stamped in Versamark and embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I added a layer of black to make the white pop and put it on a Watermelon card base. Super simple but I really love how modern it looks!!
I’m hoping to get back to some more stamping today and tomorrow and I should be back for an early edition of Fancy Friday later this week. Until then, I hope you’ll go enjoy the inspiration from the team! See you soon!

Wow, is it already Wednesday again?! The last week has just flown by! Literally. Because I have been flying TONS! But at least it is Freshly Made Sketches day. Yay for that!! And the clever and so fabulous Linda Callahan has our sketch all ready for this week and it is awesome.
I just got this stamp set called Blue Skies from Lawn Fawn last week and the little balloons called out to be colored for this one. I also got some new Copics so out those came too! Also in the order, Pretty Pink Posh Sequins….yep, I was ready for some spring colors and inspiration for sure! The sentiment on this is from the February Paper Pumpkin, the DSP is retired from SU and the pink strip is a piece of white colored with Copics to match.I know my post is super fast. Long day dealing with weather and another looms for tomorrow. This is a long trip but when I get home, I have some time off so it will be worth it!
I hope that you are having a great week. Last week you all blew us away with a super gallery. I’m hoping to see that again this weekend. Make sure you let the team know how much you like their work and give a special note to Linda for our awesome sketch! Happy rest of your week. See you soon!
Happy Wednesday everyone! I’m so thrilled to share this awesome sketch from the lovely Rita. I was so grateful for this one since my card came together really fast!!
I had colored this flower a few weeks ago when my mom was visiting. We were playing with Zig Clean Color Markers and Shimmery White card stock and this flower was a natural to color. You can’t see it in the picture but the flower has a lovely shimmer to it that makes it even prettier in person. I stamped some Crumb Cake card stock using the Dots for Days stamp and Momento Black. The sentiment is from the February Paper Pumpkin kit (I’m obsessed with this font and the sentiments).
I hope you enjoy playing along this week! I can’t wait for you to see all the team has created. And I know I’ll be loving the gallery this week too. Thanks for stopping in! See you soon!
I’m back today with the latest and greatest from Freshly Made Sketches and I do mean great! My friend Jen Mitchell has created a marvelous sketch for this week and you are going to love it!
I had some birds from this wonderful Happy Birds stamp set (WPlu9) colored from the coloring challenge I’ve been doing. This bright happy pink one jumped out and demanded to be used! I used some retired SU DSP from my stash and I love the graphic feel that it gives. I stamped the bird in Momento Tuxedo Black and colored him with my Copics (RV21, RV04, Y06) then cut him out with the coordinating die. I added the little “wire” from the stamp set onto my square panel and then popped the bird on Dimensionals to attach. The sequins and the sentiment are part of the Paper Pumpkin kit from February…..one of my all time faves!
Ok….I hope you enjoy this fun little card as much as I enjoyed making it! The team has some adorable work to share with you so have a great time with their inspiration. Back on Friday with a fun new hop with my Fancy Friday friends. See you then!
