For Someone Special

Wishing you a happy Saturday! For “spring”, it certainly has not been very bright or warm yet here in Virginia so I thought I should just create a little of my own spring sunshine. I think this Banner in Bloom stamp set from Reverse Confetti does that perfectly, don’t you?! I wanted the banner to go with this pretty yellow (Lemon Chiffon from Simon Says Stamp…it is a current favorite for sure!). I stamped in Momento ink and then used Copics to color two of the images from the set. They layer up so nicely!!

To add a little more interest, I used the Striped Frame Cover Panel and popped up the center layer to allow for more of the yellow to peek out. So pretty!! I added some Sparkling Clear Sequins (Pretty Pink Posh) for just a little more shine on the card.

The Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge this week is a celebration of their 9th Birthday! So, naturally they are having a birthday theme. I thought this would be a fun way to help them celebrate (and add to my birthday card stash too!). Hope the weekend is full of sunshine (either for real or in your craft room). See you soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #331

Happy middle of the week to you!! I hope your week is going well so far. This great sketch at Freshly Made Sketches from the lovely Cécile Ribon is sure to get you up and stamping!! I just love all the possibilities on this one.

I have already told you about the amazing gifts I came home with from Stamping Away last month. Well, one of my favorites was an adorable stamp set from a new company called Hello Bluebird. I love finding out about new companies and this one is sure to make you smile. The Jungle Littles stamp set is from their March release and there are tons of sweet images in this set. I stamped a few of them not knowing which I would choose for the card and then got to coloring with my Copics. I just knew the vines would be great for the sketch too. Because the stamps are photopolymer, I was able to change the curve on the vine (the real image has a bit more bend to it) on my MISTI. Love how you can do that! Then I took a very practical approach to choosing which images to use…I let my boys choose. The oldest told me that the tiger was simply a must (after some debate with the youngest because I had also colored the lion). The tiger finally won out because he belongs in a jungle, apparently. Who am I to argue?! Naturally, the monkey had to join him because who can resist a monkey bringing you a flower? Yep…that is how it rolls some days around here. Oh, the real back story to how some things get created, haha! While there are dies for this set, I don’t have them (yet) so I fussy cut the images to be able to pop them up on the card.

I hope you like my take on the sketch today. And yes, I did realize that my panels are reversed from the sketch…after they were all stamped and colored. So I hope Cécile won’t mind too much. You are going to love all that the design team has created this week. And we have a new guest to introduce for the month of April!! My Stamping Away table neighbor, the extraordinary Tracey McNeely, has joined our happy band of enablers. I already loved her work from afar and then when I got to meet her….well, adjectives don’t quite cover how kind, sweet and seriously talented she is. Stop over and say hi!!

Bloom Where You’re Planted

I’m so excited to be able to share with you another card I made for the collaboration this month between My Sweet Petunia and Joy Clair. This is a month long partnership and it gives you lots of opportunities to win! With two full designs teams (I’m guesting in with My Sweet Petunia), all you have to do is comment on posts where you see this blog hop banner. You are then entered to win these prizes: two $25 gift certificates to Joy Clair or one MISTI (your choice of original or mini). Winners will be announced in April on both blogs.

I’m continuing on my spring theme today with this sweet little flower set called Grow in Faith. I just love all the little flowers in the set but thought it would be fun to but them in the watering pail. There was a bit of masking for this card. First, I stamped the pail using Momento Tuxedo Black ink. Then I put down my mask over the pail. I pulled this wooden image from the Christmas Nativity set (part of a stable) to create a table for the flowers. With mask safely in place, I stamped the first (top) board, then I masked that and stamped the second one. The MISTI takes away all the fear on making mistakes…and no starting over if there is incomplete stamping! I do find that on masking projects I always need to stamp twice. Once those were done, I stamped the flowers (with the pail mask still in place). Notice that I had cut the little top part off the pail mask so that the flower appear to be in the pail.

So after all that was done, I pulled off all the masks and YAY!! There is always a bit of a moment of holding your breath with masking…at least for me. I stamped the sentiment and then colored the images using Copic markers. Such a sweet little card!

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Newton’s Birthday Balloons

Welcome back for day 3 of the March Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. Wednesdays in release week are doubly good since I get a sketch from Freshly Made Sketches too! AND….we get to introduce a new Newton…Newton’s Birthday Balloons.

I colored up my little kitty with Copic markers and gave him some balloons in fun colors. It looks to me like the balloons are carrying him away. The sentiment is from the Balloon Shaker Die shown yesterday. The sketch from Linda today gave me a great chance to show off Newton with the new Bubbly stencil (used to emboss). In my brain those bubbles are just helping to lift Newton up and away. I added some Clear Drops to help highlight the bubbles too. Yeah…I may have had a little too much fun with this whole card.

Newton’s Nook Designs Surprise Birthday Blog Hop

Hi everyone! I’m super happy to be back with a bonus post today. Today is really special for the Newton’s Nook Designs Design Team because we have joined together for a surprise birthday hop for the amazing Jennifer Jackson. Jennifer is the owner and illustrator for NND and we want to let her know how much we love her! So…happy birthday Jennifer!! Thank you for the opportunities you have shared with us and for all the creative inspiration!I went all in on the bright colors on this card! I love the lime green note card and thought the green and a bold pink would be fun with it. I colored using my Copics and added a sentiment from the same set on the stitched circle. For some more flair, I added striped baker’s twine and some coordinating sequins.

I hope Jen enjoys her celebration (and shock of shocks, I actually even got this in the mail!). In true NND style, we have a chance for you to win. See….everyone loves a birthday celebration!

Newton’s Nook Designs February Release – Company of Cats

Happy day 3 of the February Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. I have such a treat for you today. A new stamp set called Company of Cats that you are sure to adore! (If you are looking for my Freshly Made Sketches post for today, just scroll down a bit)

I have to admit that I actually did laugh out loud when I read this sentiment for my card. So many cat people already know how true this is!! I could not help but think that it would be fun to create a card starting with just one kitty and then revealing the rest. So a pop-up card was born. I masked, stamped and colored this cutie with Copics and then added the yellow with Distress Ink.

I stamped the whole image again and then colored kitties of every kind. I fussy cut them out and made a pop up feature. And then I added the rest of the sentiment. Isn’t it just perfect??!!! I love it!

Newton’s Nook Designs February Release – Bitty Bunnies

Welcome back for day 2 of the February Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. Today I have a little cuteness overload for you. I mean really, who can resist Bitty Bunnies?!

I really wanted to put the focus on this sweet little bunny but still have some neutral details to add to the card. I started by coloring the bunny with my Copics and knew he would be super cute against this notecard (from SU’s Sale-a-bration). I liked how the envelope had the light brown with speckles so I colored the bunny to coordinate, including the speckles. I used a new embossing folder with the basket weave which is a nod to an Easter basket but I like that this doesn’t have to be an Easter card. The Flags and Frames Dies were used for the stitched details and for the banner. The bunnies, butterflies and flowers in this set all work to give you lovely little scene choices and you are sure to love coloring them.

Newton’s Nook Designs January Release – Deer Friend

Welcome back for day 3 of the January Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. It is also Freshly Made Sketches day so I created a card featuring the sketch with today’s stamp set, Deer Friend.

These little deer images are darling and I love the coordinating sentiments, don’t you?! I colored my deer with Copic markers and then went a little crazy coloring leaves and flowers to go with it. I loved the layered shape option in the sketch so I chose stitched circles…one in white and one with vellum. To add a little more detail but still keep focus on the images, I embossed my white base with a woodgrain texture. I consider this time of year thank you note season so this sentiment was a natural.

On a Freshly Made Sketches note, I want to make sure you saw that the incredible Teresa Kline is joining us as a guest designer so make sure you stop in to welcome her. The whole team has done beautiful work with the lovely Kim Singdahlsen‘s sketch.

You Make Life Sweeter

Did you know that yesterday was National Cocoa Day?? I mean seriously, who can NOT be excited about a day devoted to cocoa?! So of course I needed to have some hot cocoa and today I get to share a card that is all about sharing it with those you love. I created this for my December post over at the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog.

You Make Life Sweeter by Jen Timko | Cup of Cocoa Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Love & Chocolate Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Softly Falling Embossing Folder by Stampin' Up, Stitched Shapes Dies by Stampin' Up

The little cups from the Cup of Cocoa stamp set are just so cute and I love all the variations. I chose two that seemed to work well together and colored them to match. Then I chose the little heart from the same set. All of them were colored with Copic markers and then cut using the coordinating dies. While a number of the sentiments from Cup of Cocoa would work nicely here, I thought this one from Love & Chocolate was just perfect for my sweet little pairing. I stamped it in Versafine Onyx Black and then cut out the oval with stitched dies. The cups and heart are popped up using Dimensionals and Mini Dimensionals (those minis are really the BEST). I added a little extra texture in the background with my Softly Falling embossing folder (and it helps keep it wintery). Because hey, there is still time to enter the 2017 Winter Coffee Lovers Blog Hop!

Newton’s Nook Designs November Release – Winter Woofs

Welcome to day 2 of the November Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. Our share for you today is sure to be a hit with all the dog people among us. Because our team loves ALL the critters!!

I know a few corgi fans that are going to love this fellow on the sled! To be honest, I went to my Facebook feed and looked at some of their sweet corgis to choose the colors for this guy. Isn’t he fun?! I used the Land Borders Dies for his snow slope. I sponged some ink onto watercolor paper and used these little snowflake dies from the Snow Globe Shaker Dies to add a few little flakes to the scene. The new Frames & Flags Dies create a great frame for it all.

Take a look at all the options on this awesome stamp set. That husky building a snow man is too cute!! I can’t wait to go see what the team created. Now on to everyone’s favorite part of release week. A chance to win!!
