Hi everyone! Sorry I missed you last week. I think like everyone else, I’m on a roller coaster. To be honest, I have not flown in over 6 weeks which saddens me greatly. But I know I’m not alone in having an industry that is full of the unknown. In theory that means I have more time to create but last week the mojo just flew away. But I’m back to creating this week and hope to have lots to share with you over the upcoming days. For today, it is Freshly Made Sketches. Our incredible Kim Singdahlsen is the sketch designer and she has a clever one for us.

I was inspired to use the Somewhere Kit by Erin Lee Creative today. Erin was waiting for a few backordered items to come in and now she is able to ship these kits again! Get them while you can! I thought this sketch was perfect for showing off the rainbow background and then adding a few strips of color to convey a rainbow. Versamark Ink on the Desert Storm card stock is subtle but really pretty. And it allowed me to add a sentiment easily. The sentiment is one of the stamps in the kit. They are all fabulous! In truth, though, this one speaks loudly to me. We need as many rainbows as we can get breaking through the clouds.

Happy Wednesday! Ready for the next great sketch from Freshly Made Sketches? Lucky you because the wonderful Jen Mitchell designed a fabulous one.

I pulled out the Summer Sketches stamp set from The Greetery. Thought it was perfect to add over an ink splatter. I inked it up using Altenew inks in pretty spring colors. I added the Beautiful die, also from The Greetery, to finish the sketch.

Spellbinders – Jane Davenport’s Fairytale Fox

Today I’m sharing a brand new stamp set from Spellbinder’s Whimsical and Wild Collection by Jane Davenport. If you are familiar with the Jane Davenport style of art, it is beautifully textured and rich with color. The Fairytale Fox set became my focus for two cards that are exactly the same and yet totally different.

I stamped the images in Versafine Clair ink onto multimedia paper. I was inspired by Jane’s color palettes and just simply splattered watercolor paints over the paper. I thought it was fun and, well, whimsical.

Using the same setup that I had on my MISTI, I stamped again on a rougher watercolor paper. This time I played with adding more strategic color and then colored the background too. I added some teal, gold and pearl splatters for a bit more detail.

SugarPea Designs – Guest Week 4

I cannot believe that a whole month has gone by as a guest designer for SugarPea Designs. It has been such a joy to work with this company!

You know by now that I have long sung the praises of stencils. I love them! They are such an economical addition to your craft room and they can do so much to add texture and detail to your projects. Today, I used the Leaf Canopy Stencil in the traditional way. I put the stencil down on Bristol Smooth paper and brushed on Distress Ink in Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn.

Not sure how you feel about it, but one of the happiest moments in crafting for me is pulling away the stencil. Kind of like a big reveal! The detail of this stencil really makes for a pretty base so I decided to let it be the star. I chose the SugarCut Grateful Die as my sentiment. I inked up a scrap of the Bristol Smooth with the same colors in a gradient and then cut it out with the die. To get a bit more dimension, I cut the word three more times from green card stock and the layered them all together to attach to the card.

SugarPea Designs has lots of pretty stencils! Again, please remember with the stock of so many of these companies that they are limited by their own supply chains and access to warehouses. Three posts in a row! Don’t faint! It has been fun to be able to share different things with you and today I’m back to my standard Wednesday with Freshly Made Sketches. I am the sketch designer this week.

I started coloring these images over the weekend (and shared on Instagram) from the new Superhero Scrubs stamp set by Erin Lee Creative. Erin’s husband is one of these superheroes so the set is near and dear to her! I was really hoping that I could make them work for my sketch this week and I love how they turned out. I stamped them onto XPress-It Copic Coloring Paper. This paper is made just for Copic and it makes blending easy. I fussy cut them out and then went to work on the rest of the card. For the top, I decided to use the Tumbling Hearts Stencil from Newton’s Nook Designs for textured embossing. It is really easy with the right sandwich. I often say that stencils are a cost effective workhorse in your crafting and this is an example why. I stamped the bottom portion with a sentiment from the same stamp set. To add extra dimension, I glued the red card stock to the base and then popped up the white pieces. Red sequins seemed like a good addition so on they went.

SugarPea Designs – Guest Week 3

Today I have my card for week three of my April guest designer month at SugarPea Designs. I suspect that many of you are starting to feel the weight of the global restrictions and I am no different. While I have been on reserve (on call) for United, I have not flown now for a month. I miss my office window! So you can see that in my project for today.

I reached for the Meadow Motifs stamp set again. While I love happy spring colors, I was feeling the call of watercolor paints and focused on blues and a gray green. I stamped lots of the beautiful images from the stamp set onto watercolor paper and got to watercoloring. Something about the imperfection of paints seemed to fit the chaos of my house.

Once completed, I cut all of the images out with the coordinating SugarCut Meadow Motifs dies. After laying them out in a grouping, I used Press’n Seal Wrap over them to hold them in place. Then comes the fun! Choose a shape die (I used an oval) and lay it over your wrap then cut. On the inside of the shape you will have the pieces still held in place. I added foam tape for extra dimension and then attached to a watercolor paper base. Carefully peel away the wrap and magic! You see the shape but didn’t have to do any piecing. The sentiment is from Everyday Sentiments stamp set and I cut it out with coordinating SugarCut Sentiment Strips.

This gorgeous stamp set was truly perfect for the Press’n Seal technique (which has been on my “to try” list for a long time). I hope you will be inspired to give it a go too. Thanks for stopping in to visit today! Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches. See you then!

A quick post for today using the latest from Freshly Made Sketches. Our sketch designer this week is Lee Ann Barrett and her sketch is a great multi-tasker.

Now I would LOVE to take credit for the watercoloring on this image but I didn’t lift a brush. This art is actually washi tape. Yep, washi tape!! It is the Painted Florals tape from Pinkfresh Studios cut with the coordinating Floral Cluster Die. I laid the tape down on white paper and then just cut it out. About as easy as it gets. The sentiment is from another Pinkfresh Studios set called You’ve Got This. It seemed particularly fitting as we all continue to try to find order to the chaos. Or maybe that is just me… I stamped it in Versamark and embossed with gold embossing powder.

I hope you enjoy working on this sketch. The team has created some beautiful work, as always. And while I might be biased, this really is the greatest of teams. We got to do a group Zoom last week. From across the edges of the world, there we were in each other’s homes. What an amazing gift technology can be! I hope that you are able to reach out and visit with your loved ones too. SugarPea Designs – Guest Week 2

I am happy to be back over at SugarPea Designs for week 2 of my April guest posts. First, I’m so grateful that many of you visited their site last week and did some shopping. I can’t wait for you to see the sweet box her products come in and the darling packaging. And if you didn’t have a moment to visit last week, I hope to inspire you to this week.

You know by now that I cannot resist a flower and these Meadow Motifs images are the best! Pretty flowers, extra images to pop up for texture. Beautifully designed! I blended pink into orange and then yellow to create the shading with Copic Markers. I went right to my YG markers for the perfect spring green leaves that also happen to perfectly match the Key Lime Pie Envelopes. I colored up one of the butterflies from the set in lavender as a contrast to the pink/orange.

Once I completed the coloring, I cut all of the images out with the coordinating SugarCut Meadow Motifs dies. To create the background, I inked some white card stock in Shaded Lilac Distress Ink and then cut the cover plate from more white with the SugarCut Large Striped CoverPlate die. The sentiment came from the multitasking workhorse Everyday Sentiments stamp set. Finally, I found some purple/green iridescent sequins in my stash to finish.

So a reminder about shopping with any of the craft companies right now, there are limitations, just like on all the other aspects of our lives. If something is showing as “sold out”, it may be because they cannot get to their warehouse or their distributor cannot come in to make additional products. Some companies cannot even ship. For now, SugarPea Designs is able to ship what she has in stock but re-stock may take time. Please just make a wish list or notify when available. These companies want your business very much but sometimes there is only so much they can do. When they do ship to you, go over to their social media sites and share photos! A quick card today for a message to you all. I wish you joy and healing as we celebrate the Risen King at Easter! Blessings to you all and I look forward to the day where we can gather again. Today is a reminder that we can conquer despair and rise stronger.

I mentioned the other day that one of the things I have been doing is just coloring for fun while listening to “Lives” or classes online taught by my friends. One of these is my dear friend Lydia Fiedler. Something about that dear woman’s calming voice and humor just makes my day better. I’d love to say I even did the basic work of stamping the image for this but my Crafty Friends teammate (and of course, friend) Sandi Maciver shared the image with me in the fall (Botanical Burst by Tonic Studios).

I started with my G series Copics on the greens (G20, G21, G24, G28) and played with shading. Once I got those right, I stared on the flowers using some pinks, oranges and yellows (RV09, YR68, Y38, Y17, Y06). I was just messing around with blending while listening to the lovely chatter about shading (with Lydia and Kathy Racoosin) and then while Lydia was showing some swatching. These wonderful friends who share their time and talents make me happy. Friends who send not only pretty cards but pretty things to colors are amazing! In all of this that is swirling about, I love that one my constants is the kindness of my creative community.

Most of the time I share things that were created with a “purpose” but I wanted to remind you that now is the time to create when the actual creating is the purpose. The coloring on this took about 4 days or so, just a little at a time. It is hard to pay back for how these people help but I can attempt to pay forward. Affiliate links are how many of us pay for our crafting blogs and products. They don’t cost you, the customer, anything additional. It just allows companies to reward those who create sales for them.
