Freshly Made Sketches #621

Freshly Made Sketches #621 published on 3 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #621

Hello, my friends! Long time since I have posted! I’m pretty sure I told you all that I would be doing some non-flying work for United and that is exactly what I have been off doing. I’m learning to teach a 4 day course on Leadership for new Captains and it is taking most of my bandwidth to work on (along with my required flying, of course). And then, I took advantage of a week off to jet away with my oldest – just the two of us – to Paris for a 4 day vacation. His time off has not aligned with the rest of the family since he went to college and he was in much need of a vacation. So I took advantage of my travel “privileges” (which mostly only work in off season travel) and off we went. He had a passport from right before Covid started and he had never used it. We fixed that! I have some photos at the bottom of the post if you are interested.

With that, I’m the sketch designer this week and in true form, did not even follow my own idea. In fairness, I created the sketch a while ago and well, all of the above things. I hope you will enjoy playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches on this one.

I thought I’d better get back into crafting with something fairly simple so I opted to color just one of the flowers and pop it up. I went with older sets and things I just love to keep it easy. The flowers/leaves are from Friendship Blooms by SugarPea Designs and I did some Copic Coloring on that. The sentiment is from an Ellen Hutson stamp set.

Most of the work is done by my Misti. I stamped and colored first, attached the leaves to the flower and then just looked at the spacing for stamping. I cut the stamped flower part with a rectangle die so I could cut off a bit of the edge. I popped the image layer up and added a few pearls. Clean, simple and just what I needed to clear my head a bit from all the chaos.

For our trip to Paris, we hit the ground running and saw Ste. Chapelle and the Musée D’Orsay on the first day. We did a food tour in Montmartre (highly recommend) and visited Sacre Coeur while in that area. Of course the Eiffel Tower plus the Musée de l’Armée (a fabulous military museum) and most of a day at the Louvre. Whew….that was a lot in a short time! It had been a long time since I had been there so it was nice to return! A few photos of our adventure.

Thanks for staying to visit a bit. I hope your week is great! I’ll be back soon (really…I actually have another card ready).

I hope you are doing well and I’m so glad to have you along today for the latest from Freshly Made Sketches! Our lovely Linda Callahan is the sketch designer this week and she created a unique and super fun sketch for us.

I pulled out some products that haven’t seen any love in quite awhile and I love them for this sketch. Most of the products here are from SugarPea Designs with colored paper (and coordinating inks) from Concord and 9th. The Paint Palette Dies come with the palette, paint splotches and brushes. Super fun! I cut the palette from a wood grain paper in my stash. Then cut the splotches from different colors of C9 paper in ROYGBIV order. I used some black and a matte silver for the brushes and two of the colors again for the brushes. I sponged on a little bit of matching ink for a bit of depth and that is it.

I chose a sentiment from the Color of Life stamp set that makes me happy! I love this one for a number of my friends! I kept the rest clean so the focus stays right on the center of this fun design.

So glad you stopped in today. I hope you are having a beautiful start to your summer! See you again soon.

Freshly Made Sketches #523

Hi everyone! So happy to see you today. I actually have two cards to share for Freshly Made Sketches. The same card made two different ways. Our sketch hostess is the wonderful Jen Brum and she has such a clever layout for us this week.

I started with the new Citrus Bloom suite of products from Pinkfresh Studio. I stamped the images in Versamark then heat embossed with white embossing powder. Using my Daniel Smith watercolors, I just spent a bit of time coloring. When you stamp the flowers, it is all one stamp and so the die is the same. One cut, all the flowers done!

To keep with the sketch, I watercolored a background and then used a background die (retired) as a stencil of sorts for the texture. I added a sentiment and these pretty Matte Gold Pearls (Pinkfresh Studio) and some gold thread.

In a totally different yet totally the same version, I used the same elements. The flowers were “colored” using the coordinating stencils and Altenew inks. I used the same die except in the traditional way.

I used some patterned paper from Honey Bee Stamps in the background and some pretty sequins from Catherine Pooler instead of the pearls.

I hope you like both of these! The sketch is super flexible and I think you will have fun with it this week. Let me know which of these you like better! Thanks for stopping in.

Noel for SugarPea Designs

I’m over at the SugarPea Designs company blog today with some monthly inspiration. Over the next few weeks, you will see that I’m in full holiday mode and this card shows that.

I thought it would be fun to create my own sentiment with a block alphabet die set and just add details. To get started, I took some blue card stock and then inked on a little bit of Distress Ink for a little more shading. Then, using the Falling Snow Stencil, I added some Picket Fence Paper Glitz. Suffice it to say that none of my pictures come close to showing you the shimmer and shine. While I had the Paper Glitz out, I also applied some to a plain piece of white card stock. Just a thin layer!

Once the white panel was dry, I simply cut the word Noel using the Block Alphabet SugarCut dies and the snowflakes from the Snowflake Tag SugarCut dies. More shimmer and shine! For the letters, I cut two more of the blue card stock so I could give it a bit more dimension. A bit of foam tape under the snowflakes too. And that’s it. Easy to do in an assembly line too if you like making more than one of a design.

Thanks for stopping in. Glad to see you today. Hope your day is great!

This pretty set is just wonderful for making sweet scenes. I designed an entry, complete with shiplap, that would make anyone feel welcome. I stamped the images using Versafine Clair on Bristol Smooth paper and then colored with Zig Markers. I did not have the dies (but there are coordinating dies!) so I fussy cut the elements.

To add a bit more fun to the scene, I also included some images from a sister set called Let’s Stay Home. Knowing that these Stamptember sets go quickly, I wanted you to know about a similar one that is readily available. For the shiplap, I just cut the card stock into strips and glued it down to my base where I had already colored the floor section. Easy to do and it adds such fun detail.

Ok, that is it for today! Thanks so much for stopping in. I have my affiliate links below (at no cost to you) and I would love it if you considered shopping with me. Have a wonderful Saturday!

SugarPea Designs Sweet 2 Repeat – Fall Release

Hi everyone! We have a fun hop over on Instagram with the SugarPea Designs team. Chances to win too! A quick share here for those who do not do Instagram.

I chose to focus on an element again using the Always Welcome Stamp Set from the new release. I stamped three of them in Versamark Ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder. They were cut out using the Card Front Element 3 SugarCut Dies.

I used some corrugated kraft from my stash as a backer to make the wreaths pop more. For the chalkboard look, I sponged on some white ink and then added splatters with Hero Arts Iridescent Shimmer Spray. For a pop of color, I pulled out some red grosgrain ribbons and red jewels.

I hope you enjoy this fresh look at the stamp set. Make sure you come over to hop with us! As a note, I will be back at midnight for a special surprise post! It won’t show up in your email until tomorrow evening but you may want to take a look at the blog in the morning.

SPD Mix #83 and FMS 504

Today I get to share a combination card joining two of my favorite challenges! I started with the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches and use the inspiration from SugarPea Designs’ Mix It Up Challenge. So fun!

Using the Autumn Background stamp set, I stamped in Versamark Ink and then heat embossed in Gold Rich from Wow on Dark Chocolate card stock. Something about the gold on the dark brown is so pretty and a bit unexpected. This was the color from the inspiration that really drew me in!

In keeping with the sketch layers, I used some gold twine from my stash for the crossing panel. In truth, I first added more layers but then just could not cover up all the pretty detail of the background. Instead, I just chose the SugarCut – Thanks Word die and cut the top piece from gold card stock and the bottom from more Dark Chocolate. I pulled a few gold sequins from my stash to add even more shine.

Thanks for stopping by today! Back on Friday with more fun! See you then.

SugarPea Designs Fall Release – Release Day

I am so excited to be here for the last of the SugarPea Designs Fall Release Sweet Peek Week. This afternoon the release goes live at 2p Eastern. You can shop here: SHOP SUGARPEA DESIGNS

Today’s new products: Basic Bookmark SugarCut Dies, Book Club Stamp Set and Book Words with Shelf SugarCut Dies

While I definitely love the bookmark part of the die set, I love the option to not use that and to have a cute card with all the fun elements. I really enjoyed building my books and added the greenery to the shelf. All I did was cut them all (except the shelf) from white paper and colored the appropriate pieces with Copic Markers. Easy peasy.

I turned the glasses into tortoise shell glasses (because I have some) just for fun. I love this sentiment and all the other choices too.

I am so excited to be here for day 4 of the SugarPea Designs Fall Release Sweet Peek Week.

Today’s new products: Coffee Cuties SugarCut Dies, Brew-tiful Sentiments, Whole Latte Words and Cool Beans Stencil

How can anyone resist all the coffee products with the little faces? Oh my word, these are cute! I cut out the little much and some of the layering choices and colored them with Copic Markers to match a fun fall patterned paper. Then I chose a sentiment from the stamp and die group that I just love.

Let’s face it…adulting is hard and coffee helps! I hope you love this adorable group as much as I do.

I am so excited to be here for day 3 of the SugarPea Designs Fall Release Sweet Peek Week.

Today we are sharing the Shut the Front Door SugarCut Die.

Shut the Front Door, indeed! This die is so well designed and has so many options. You can customize all the elements. I used a wood grain paper from my stash to create the basis of my door and then decided to make it a holiday scene. And get this…the door opens!! Let me show you.

Super fun, don’t you think?! I put the door on a mini slimline card and it is perfectly sized for that. If you want to add the other elements from the die set, a standard card will be great.
