Because I’m Happy….

Because I’m Happy…. published on 2 Comments on Because I’m Happy….

Why am I happy??!!!  In case you’ve been hiding, I need to remind you that the new Holiday Catalog is now live.  Yes…oh and the Big Shot special is still ongoing.  But today is the last day for that!  What does that mean?  You need to order and now!  I have links below to the Big Shot and the bundles so check them out.

Amazing Birthday - Happy happy

I’m also happy to share this card from my Display Stamper collection.  Can I confess that the Pharrell Williams song was in my head while I was making this?  And then I made variations of it as a swap card for the other display stampers.  That was a LOT of happy going on!  So I took the stamp from Amazing Birthday and inked the words with Real Red, Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight and Rich Razzleberry.  Then I just cut them apart.  Finally, I took the markers back to the edges to clean up my cutting.  They are up on Dimensionals with a background of Moonlight DSP.  Add in a Vintage Faceted Button and some Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine and you have a fun card!

And….I’m REALLY happy that you can get the Big Shot bundle (either the Big Shot with the Bright & Beautiful Stars Bundle or simply the Bright & Beautiful Bundle at the 15% discount) and still get the discount on my Stamps on the Fly program.  You can read about the whole thing HERE if you missed it.

10603969_507387439394481_1743873333853894643_oI am so excited to be able to share with you a new monthly hop!  If you just came over from the amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  My friends and I want to be able to share with you our ideas in a monthly format.  We will use different themes each month – sometimes colors, sometimes a sketch, sometimes a stamp set focus.  The one thing you can count on is that it will be fancy!  Over the last year “fancy” became our word to describe the best projects, the best new clothes, even the best pedicure colors.  Now we want to share with you our take on “fancy” each month.  This month we have a color challenge that the whole team will be using as inspiration.  And you know what?  You can join in too!  Just use our inspiration piece (all or some of the colors) and post a comment with your link on any of the team Fancy Friday team’s blogs.

FF Aug - Watercolor Kindness

For my card I wanted to show you this new technique I learned in a Watercolor for Card Makers class I have been taking.  I love the idea of being able to paint an image but that is definitely NOT my talent.  Thank heavens for the artists at Stampin’ Up who create them for me!  But I can cheat and look like I know how to paint.  How?  Well, I inked up my flower from Gifts of Kindness using my Stampin’ Write Markers in the colors from the challenge and stamped it on Watercolor Paper.  Then, using a paint brush dipped in water, I blended the colors and the lines to create this image that looks like I painted it by hand.  Then I took my Aquapainter and added the Island Indigo (really watered down) around the edges of the paper.  Once everything was dry, I added some water drops to it and the sentiment from the same stamp set.  The image here is the star of the show so I simply attached it to an Early Espresso card base using Dimensionals (a lot of them since the paper tends to curl after all the water was added).  I had so much fun with this that I’m looking for more stamps I can use with the technique!

Wanna chance to play along and with the challenge and have a chance to win the Seasonally Scattered stamp set? Be sure to leave a comment on any of our blogs with a link back to your creation, and ONE lucky participant will win! Here are the rules for the challenge: 1. Leave a comment on one of our blogs with a link to your creation, comments/links MUST be left by Friday, September 19th 7:00 PM MST in order to be eligible for the prize. 2. Please use the color palette provided. You can use any combination or all of the colors provided as well as any neutrals. Although SU colors are listed, you can use any colors you have on hand as long as they are similar. 3. You MUST put a link in your post back to the challenge.  **Winner will be announced during the September Fancy Friday Blog Hop! (the last Friday of September).**

Okay, off to go visit the awesome Mercedes Weber!  You will love her project!

Freshly Made Sketches #151

Freshly Made Sketches #151 published on 13 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #151

FMS Final 151-001

Happy Wednesday!!  Boy do we have a treat for you today over at Freshly Made Sketches!  Our amazing Guest Designer for August, Kim Singdahlsen, is the sketch hostess.  Can you believe this is the first sketch she has created?  Yeah, me neither.  It is fabulous!  I have really enjoyed all her work this month and this is the icing on the cake.

FMS151 - Thanks

I kept my card super clean this week with the focus on the new stamp set  For All Things.  I think this set is beautiful and I see so many ways to use it.  My colors for this are Soft Suede (stamped off), Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry and Early Espresso.  Other than cutting out the leaf, this card is pretty straight-forward.  I added on a new Gold Basic Metal Button tied with Linen Thread for a little extra and stamped everything on Naturals Ivory Card Stock.  I love the little flecks in that paper that help to fill the white space a bit.

The design team has so many fantastic interpretations of this sketch and I know it will be wildly popular this week because of the possibilities!  I hope you can join in on the fun!  Don’t forget to drop by and say hi to Kim too!

I have been working on my projects for my Stamps on the Fly but I will have a new card ready for you Friday.  The first Fancy Friday hop….a new monthly hop with my 2013 Artisan Design Team friends.  We miss hopping together so this will be fun!  First up….a color challenge for us (and you can join in too)!  Until then, I hope your week is amazing!

Cherry Cobbler Flowers

Cherry Cobbler Flowers published on 2 Comments on Cherry Cobbler Flowers

I showed you a Christmas card from my Blendabilities “on the Fly” class in my last post and today another of our cards.  This one is a variation of a card I recently posted but was colored instead with the main focus on one color — Cherry Cobbler.

Cherry Cobbler Thank You

I demonstrated to my class the virtues of using the “light to dark” and “dark to light” techniques of using Blendabilities.  The flower from I Like You was stamped in Momento Black Ink to start.  I then started with the largest flower.  I added ink from the lightest Cherry Cobbler Blendabilites marker using the paint brush end on the whole flower.  Make sure you err to the side of not going all the way to the edge of the image to account for bleed.  You can always fill it back in later.  Then I added the darkest color to the petal lines already draw on the image.  Using the medium marker I started blending with a circular motion and took that about halfway up the petal.  Then I went back to my light marker and continued blending.  I worked on only a few petals at a time.  On the medium sized flower, I started instead with the darkest marker.  I decided to use the dark color at the outside of the flower this time to help provide contrast.  I added the dark ink around the edges of the petals.  Then I moved to the medium marker and started blending, leaving a small section toward the center uncolored.  Finally the light marker blending through the petal again.  If you find the petal does not have enough contrast, use the Color Lifter and remove a little bit of the ink.  You can come back over with the light color again for blending if needed.  My little flowers were colored with the lightest marker and the leaves were colored in the light to dark way.  I had fun showing how much variation you can get simply using one set of markers!

I’ll be back on Wednesday with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches!  Until then, I hope you have a wonderful start to your week!

Seasonal Branches

Seasonal Branches published on 3 Comments on Seasonal Branches

You have probably heard the sound throughout the crafting world.  Maybe even at your own house!  Yes, the squeals of happiness when seeing the new Holiday Catalog!!  My customers have started receiving theirs and they feel like I do….WOW!

Today I get to show you what happens when you combine the new stamp set Beauty of the Season with Blendabilities.  This is one of the cards we will be making in my Blendabilities “on the Fly” class today and it focuses on coloring accessories.

Seasonal Branches

You know by now that I love a card with clean lines.  What does “clean” mean to me?  Well, usually lots of white space (or unembellished space).  That does not always mean simple nor without distressing.  For me, clean means the ability to focus on a special detail.  Sometimes that is coloring (like on another card I’ll show you Monday) or in today’s case, the focus on the pretty pearl berries.  The other card elements are there to add a specialness but not distract you from the focal point.  So that is how I design most of the time.  And I love teaching you how to design as much as how to stamp!

For this card, I stamped the small branch from Beauty of the Season twice with just a little crossing at the branches’ ends.  A Stamp-a-ma-jig is helpful to get this just right (and is one of my go-to tools).  Before I worked on the rest of the card, I colored some Basic Pearls with the middle marker from my Cherry Cobbler Blendabilities and set aside.  They don’t take long to dry but I have no patience to wait so doing it now is good.  Then I stamped the sentiment (all stamping in Early Espresso).  Using my Stampin’ Distress Tool, I distressed the edges of my Very Vanilla and Cherry Cobbler panels and then sponged some Crumb Cake ink on the edges of the Vanilla panel.  I attached the two together.  Then the fun.  I started attaching the different sized Pearls (small and medium) where the berries are on the image.  So easy but so much wow!  Finally, I doubled up some Linen Thread and tied a bow.  I attached the bow to my Early Espresso Button with Tombow Multipurpose Glue and then attached the button with a Glue Dot.  The decorated panel is put on the base with Dimensionals.  And there you have it.  Clean but with a very special feel!  I can’t wait to share this with my class later today and I hope you’ll give it a try too.

I’ll be back Monday with another of the projects from this class!  Until then, I hope you have a great weekend and get a little stamping time!

Freshly Made Sketches #150

Freshly Made Sketches #150 published on 11 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #150

FMS Final 150-001

Well, it looks like I missed an amazing week last week at Freshly Made Sketches but I am back with this wonderful sketch from the awesome Linda Callahan.  I love Linda’s sense of style and she always has a little twist of humor that brings a smile!

FMS150 - Bright Joy

So I have to confess that I can’t stop creating with this stamp set.  I had all the items for this card already out on my table from making the projects for my new Stamps on the Fly and put them to use again.  I used the Silver Foil at the bottom of my Whisper White base.  Then I inked up the middle and small stars from Bright & Beautiful with Versamark then embossed with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Pretty, huh??  I did the same with the “Joy” sentiment on the base.  I added on some of the Frosted Sequins (from the Holiday Catalog too).  It still needed a little something, so I colored some Basic Rhinestones with the darkest Coastal Cabana Blendabilities marker and added those on too.

I know you are going to enjoy all the variations the team has for you this week.  I hope you’ll be able to join us too!

I have been getting one of my boys back to school this week.  The oldest started middle school on Monday.  Sigh….. How did that happen?!  But he loves all his teachers and has a smile coming home every day.  Happy mom!  My youngest starts back next Monday and then, hopefully, I will really have some stamping time.  Until then, you can see these two sweet boys in my trailer below.

If you missed it (apparently it may have been difficult to see for my email subscribers), I have a movie trailer created with my boys to show you a bit of a peek into month one of my new Stamps on the Fly program.

I hope your week is going well.  I look forward to getting back to a “normal” pattern of posting soon.  If you missed it, I also have 7 new projects over at Splitcoaststampers for the Dirty Dozen.

Ok…back on Saturday with a project I’ll be teaching at my class this weekend.  Until then, have a great week!

Current-Dirty-Girl-Blinkie

Finally!  I can share with you the great news!!  I am officially on the Dirty Dozen Design Team at Splitcoaststampers!!!  As of today!  For the next six months I will be creating projects for the monthly theme….wow it is fun!  Here is the deal.  In order to see what I have created, you have to be a member of the Splitcoast Fan Club.  But seeing my cards is definitely the tip of the iceberg!  You get access to the whole Fan Club/Dirty Dozen Gallery plus all the other perks outlined in the club link.  Yeah…it is awesome!

When Lydia asked me a few weeks ago, I almost passed out!  I remember when I first started stamping and Splitcoaststampers was my go-to location for card ideas.  I was simply in awe of the amazing talent and what people could make with ink and paper.  Well, that hasn’t changed much.  I’m still in awe!!  To be on the Dirty Dozen Team is an honor I could have never expected. Let’s face it….many stamping greats (you know them by first names!) have gotten the call from Lydia.  That my name would be included was not on my radar.  So after I caught my breath, I wanted to ask Lydia if she was kidding.  But I didn’t want her to say she was so I gave her a big YES as quickly as possible!  So….I have 7 projects ready to show you in the gallery and it is live now!  Please let me know what you think….the theme is such fun!  Am I Babbling?  Yep….think of all the great ideas you will find from the entire Dirty Dozen!

SC501 - Thank youI couldn’t leave you totally without a card so I chose this week’s Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge (SC5501) for this one.  The beautiful new hostess set, I Like You, and Blendabilities.  The perfect match!  I hope you like this sweet little card and will come visit me in the galleries too.

Thanks so much for you patience as I have been busy creating!  I love when I finally get to share!  I’ll be back on Sunday with one more big announcement.  Yes, these are the ones I promised earlier in the month!  Until then, have a great weekend!

More Convention Display Board projects for today!  (Remember to click on the button above to link to all the other display stampers on our Pinterest board)

This is not my normal Wednesday post.  I’m taking a week off from Freshly Made Sketches but please stop over and see all that the team has created.  The sketch from Rita is fabulous too!

I hope you excuse my absence over the last few days.  I finally took a little down time for the summer.  The family and I went on a small vacation last week and then I rolled right back into a trip for work.  I thought it best to take week off from the challenge and stamp for all kinds of upcoming things.  More on that in the next few days.  Until then, I have some of my projects from the Display Boards to continue sharing.

Amazing Birthday - Ridiculously Amazing

I have two scrapbook pages for you today.  And I love them both!!  The first one is done in the style of my Artisan 2013 friend Cathy Caines.  I love her use of patterns and colors on white so I tried to see what I could do with that.  You know what?  I found it really freeing to just start layering patterns until things seemed right!  I started with the stencils from the Build a Banner SImply Created Kit (the new Dots & Stripes would work great too).  I sponged on Bermuda Bay into the circles.  Then using the Dotty Angles triangles stamp, I stamped on Real Red.  I purposely didn’t fully ink them to match the look of the stenciling.  Then some bits and pieces just started to get put on.  A piece of card stock.  A banner from Amazing Birthday.  Sequins (LOVE these).  The date using the Alphabet Rotary Stamp.  And finally the sentiment using the big one from Amazing Birthday.  The banner part is hand cut and the arrow is from the On Film Framelits.  I added a little pop of gold DSP (Gold Soiree) behind the picture and then added this picture of my oldest.  Needless to say the color palette came from the colors in the picture!  It is from Sea World a few years ago and I love this one!

Kinda Eclectic - Butterflies

Again on this one I started with the picture (that is truthfully the only way I can create scrapbook pages).  This one was taken in the Butterfly Pavilion at the Museum of Natural History.  This butterfly came and landed on my youngest’s head and just stayed there.  So the Kinda Eclectic set seemed like the perfect accent.  I used prints from the Moonlight Paper Stack and again just started layering.  I stamped the butterflies onto White Filter Paper and also some of the the circles from the set.  The butterflies were punched out using the Elegant Butterfly and Bitty Butterfly Punches (put a piece of card stock behind to make the punching easier).  The I tore the edges of the circle piece for extra texture.  The sentiment uses the Alphabet Rotary Stamp again (I know I have said it but it bears repeating….this rotary stamp is awesome!).

I hope you like these sweet pages as much as I do.  Both different but put together in much the same way.  I will be back later this week.  Until then, hope your day is great!

Freshly Made Sketches #148

Freshly Made Sketches #148 published on 10 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #148

FMS Final 148-001

Wow, what a gallery we had in last week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.  Thanks to all who played along with my sketch!  This week we have a fabulous sketch courtesy of the incredible Jen Mitchell.  Her style and attention to detail always wow me!

FMS148 - Greetings of the Season

My card this week should come with a disclaimer *Does Not Follow Simple Instructions Well*.  I flipped the sketch, kind of.  Only the center panel though.  Hmmmm…. Hopefully Jen won’t mind too much.  I was just obsessed with using this bird from the new set Beauty of the Season.  He is so fantastic.  And I had to color him.  I had to!  I framed him with a cut out from the On Film Framelits (cut from Early Espresso ) and added a sentiment from a set that is not even in the Holiday Catalog is it so new.  It will be a set you can get for hostessing in an upcoming promotion and it is called Good Greetings.  You will need it too.  It is awesome.  The Vintage Faceted Button was colored using the Cherry Cobbler Blendabilities (just like the bird).  A little Burlap Ribbon and that awesome Kraft Card Stock for the finished card.

You know that the team at FMS has amazing inspiration for you this week.  Because they always do!  And we have a guest stamper for the whole month of August.  Kim Singdahlsen has joined the Clean Team (and the ensuing craziness)!  Please go give her a warm welcome!  Back soon with some more of my Display Stamper projects.  Until then, have a great week!
