Hooray for the Red, White and Blue!!  Okay, in this case we have Red, Blue and Blue (with a little Naturals Ivory) but you get the point.  The ColorLab Challenge is timely, as usual…ready for the Independence Day holiday here in the U.S.  The stampers over at Stampin’ Royalty are celebrating their patriotism and this color selection fit right in for me.

You may have noticed that pinwheels are showing up everywhere so I decided to give it a try.  I took some Not Quite Navy card stock and sponged on Night of Navy ink to make it pop.  The DSP is from the retiring Jolly Holiday paper – one last showing!  You’ll notice that I threaded a thin strip through the buttons too.  Today is the LAST DAY to order any retiring items so don’t put it off any longer!!  The layout comes from the Fall-to Layout Challenge.

I hope you are ready for the new catalog to launch…my order is standing by (and getting longer).  With any luck, you’ll start seeing cards with some new products in week or so!  Off for some summer fun with the kids today!  Have a great rest of your week!

Stamp:  Inviting; Paper:  Jolly Holiday (retiring), Not Quite Navy, Naturals Ivory; Ink:  Cherry Cobbler, Night of Navy; Accessories:  Neutrals Designer Buttons, Dimensionals, Sticky Strip, Piercing Tool, Mat Pack

Happy Anniversary

Happy Anniversary published on 9 Comments on Happy Anniversary

This week’s theme over at SU Only Challenges is Summer Anniversaries.  As I mentioned in the last challenge, I was married in June and just celebrated my 10th Anniversary.  Today’s card is the one I made for my husband.

If you are already a proud owner of the new 2011-12 Idea Book & Catalog, this technique may look familiar to you (p. 181).  If you don’t have one yet, contact your demonstrator as soon as you can to get one!!  If you don’t have a demonstrator, I will be happy to help you.  This is an excellent example of why the book is as much for ideas as it is for showcasing new products!  I started with Crumb Cake card stock and embossed it with my Big Shot and the Manhattan Flower Embossing Folder.  Then, using my Aquapainter, I watercolored with Cajun Craze and Always Artichoke ink (from the top of the ink pads).  It was so fast and I LOVE the results!  I distressed and tore the layer to show some Always Artichoke Textured Card Stock beneath.  The Crumb Cake Seam Binding was crumpled and then tied using a Neutrals Button and Linen Thread.  I created my own tag with a sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

Sorry I was absent last week from much posting, our family was on vacation at the beach and stamping just didn’t fit in (too much wave jumping and boogie boarding to do!!).  I hope to get back in the groove a bit this week.  At a minimum, I will be back on Thursday with another ColorLab Challenge.  Until then, I hope you are enjoying your summer too!

Stamp:  Teeny Tiny Wishes; Paper:  Crumb Cake, Always Artichoke (Smooth and Textured); Ink:  Always Artichoke, Cajun Craze; Accessories:  Big Shot, Manhattan Flower Embossing Folder, Crumb Cake Seam Binding, Linen Thread, Neutrals Designer Buttons, Aquapainter

All products are Stampin’ Up!

Ribbon frame

Ribbon frame published on No Comments on Ribbon frame

As I told you over the weekend, I’m back to show you more about the ribbon frame in the “friend” card.  It actually very simple to do and pretty fast.  Start with your Big Shot and cut a piece of OnBoard Chipboard and a piece of Very Vanilla card stock with the largest oval from the Ovals Die.  Stamp your image on the oval and set aside.

On the back side of your Chipboard oval, put down some Sticky Strip in small sections to cover the whole perimeter.  Leaving the ribbon attached to the spool, secure the end to a piece of Stick Strip leaving about 1/2″ (or desired width) sticking out.  Ruffle the ribbon and continue attaching to the Sticky Strip.  Once you get back to your starting point, place a little piece of Sticky Strip on the back of the starting ribbon and attach the two ends.  I concealed the joining spot on the front with a flower.

After I created the ribbon frame, I attached the stamped card stock and put the whole thing on the card with Dimensionals.  Hope you have fun with this cool way to add texture!  See you again soon!

Welcome to another blog hop courtesy of the stampers at Stampin’ Addicts!!  If you just came in from Kim Bolzenthal’s Stitchin’ and Stampin’ on Paper, I just know you are re-thinking your Last Chance order!  Her projects with Friends 24-7 are amazing!!

I am the last stop on today’s hop and my stamp set today is All Holidays.  It has been a favorite.  In fact, if you don’t have it I don’t know what you have done without it!  This has truly been a go-to set for me.  I have chosen three of my favorite stamps (well, really four but you can’t see one) to make my projects today.

My first card today uses the most wonderful focal image stamp!  I just love this sentiment and there are times when this one says it all.  I used the retiring Elegant Soiree DSP (one of my all time favorites) as a basis for the colors and accented the oval with flowers from Vintage Vogue.  I have some more details on the ribbon technique for you and will post more information about this card on Tuesday.  The sketch for this card is from a relatively new challenge, Try Stampin’ on Tuesday.

My next project uses the little “for you” phrase and this one has been a workhorse!  The beautiful font and the perfect size have insured heavy rotation since I first bought this set!  Today I have a Mini Milk Carton (cut with the Big Shot) decorated with the retiring Greenhouse Gala DSP.  I loved Daffodil Delight from the moment it was introduced in the 2010-11 Catalog and this paper features it prominently.  I love that I can stamp a little flower, pop on the sentiment and have a perfect tag ready to go!

Last, but certainly not least, is the “Peace Love Joy” stamp.  I have used the words together, I have used them separately (inked with a Stampin’ Write Marker)!  It isn’t the Christmas season unless this stamp has ink on it.  If you own little Dasher (and you should!), this font is a perfect combination.  I pulled out the last of my Deck the Halls DSP from last year’s Holiday Mini (retired) and some Cherry Cobbler and Early Espresso.  I also made a double bow using the retiring Early Espresso ribbon.  You probably heard the sobs at your house when I read that the ribbon was retiring.  Thank heavens there are more lovely choices on the way!!  But I ordered some extra “just in case” and I suggest you do the same.  *smile*  Inside the card, I stamped the “Merry Christmas” sentiment because it, too, has been a staple.

It has been nice having you stop by today.  If you started in the middle or with me, you can go on to Tanya Boser at Tinkerin in Ink for a fond farewell to From the Crypt.  She is stop number one on the hop!  Just wait until you see her pop-up boxes!  Where ever you began, just follow the loop around until you have seen all the awesome projects!  Don’t forget to drop back in on Tuesday for more information on my projects or you can subscribe to make sure you don’t miss a post (just look at my sidebar for more information).  Have fun hopping!

Look at the happy summer colors that the ColorLab has for you this week!!  As a seasonal stamper, this combination had so much appeal to me!  In fact, I went immediately to my Brights Designer Paper Pack and started pulling out designs to play with.  Melon Mambo is my favorite pink and it is wonderful paired with the sunny Daffodil Delight and the happy Tempting Turquoise.

I started with a layout from MojoMonday but ended up changing it just a bit.  My Fun Flowers die did the work again…amazing difference from my wedding card on Tuesday isn’t it??!!  Some 1/8″ Narrow Taffeta Ribbon provides the edging for the striped paper (and some extra dimension in person).  I created my own little tag and stamped it with a sentiment from the retiring All Holidays set.  Mini Glue Dots to hold the buttons and I was done!

I will be back tomorrow with a Stampin’ Addicts Retiring Stamp Sets Blog Hop so please stop back by!!  Also, tomorrow is the last day to win my Flag Day Giveaway so don’t forget to comment by noon!

SU Only Challenge 21 – Weddings

SU Only Challenge 21 – Weddings published on 8 Comments on SU Only Challenge 21 – Weddings

I love June weddings (in fact, I had one!) so this is such a wonderful time to make wedding cards.  For the next two weeks at SU Only Challenges, we want to see your wedding themed cards.

Conveniently enough, we have some friends that just got married and I needed this one!  Her dress was vintage inspired so I wanted to have that feel.  I struggle with pure vintage but I think this captures it pretty well.  I turned to my Elements of Style stamp and inked it in Crumb Cake.  The same in for the sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes.  I then took some wrapping tissue paper and ran it through my Big Shot with the Fun Flowers Die.  I sponged the tissue flowers with Soft Suede ink (lightly), crumpled them up and the put them together with an Antique Brad.  Next I took some Crumb Cake Seam Binding and crumpled it up too.  I tied a bow and kept the long tail a little scrunched using some Sticky Strip behind it.  The back panel used the Big Shot again with the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder on Whisper White.  Finally, the image panel was popped up on Dimensionals.

This is one of two posts today since I am also participating in a Flag Day Giveaway.  Roll down for more details.  I’ll be back on Thursday with another ColorLab Challenge.  Until then, hope you have a great week!!

Stamps:  Elements of Style, Teeny Tiny Wishes; Paper:  Crumb Cake, Whisper White; Ink:  Crumb Cake, Soft Suede; Accessories:  Big Shot, Fun Flowers Die, Framed Tulips Embossing Folder, Antique Brads, Sticky Strip, Dimensionals, Wrapping Tissue Paper

Flag Day Giveaway

Flag Day Giveaway published on 38 Comments on Flag Day Giveaway

Happy Flag Day!!  To celebrate this day, I have joined with other hosts to give away free items!  There is no catch…we are just happy to celebrate!  Don’t forget to visit all the other Flag Day Giveaway participants because there is sure to be some fun stuff.

Sticking with the flag theme, I thought I’d give away some “patriotic” items.  So I found a collection of retired designer papers where the primary color is Real Red.  Of course, there are lovely designs on the back too!  Additionally, I included some of the retiring 1/8″ Narrow Taffeta in Night of Navy and 3/8″ White Taffeta Ribbon (about 2 yards of each).  Finally, you can earn a bonus package of assorted brads and buttons (including some Glimmer Brads).  Keep reading for details.

Stampin’ on the Fly Flag Day Giveaway Rules:

1.  Make a comment on this post telling me your favorite crafting accessory.

2.  To win the bonus brads/buttons pack, tell me what your favorite project is on my blog from April, May and June (don’t worry, I only post about twice a week) and why it is your favorite.

3.  Winners will be selected by Random.org from the order in which you comment (if you are a follower, you’ll need to click into the actual blog to comment).  I will close the contest at 12 noon Eastern time on Friday, Jun 17th so that I can mail your package out as soon as possible.  Sorry but I can mail to U.S. addresses only.

Here is a look at the papers available.  They are 5 3/4″ x 6″, three of each style.

I’d like to invite you back for a Stampin’ Addicts Retiring Sets Mega Hop starting at 10a EST on Friday, June 17th.  Hope you’ll join us as we bid a fond farewell to Stampin’ Up’s “Last Chance” stamps!

Wisteria Wonder-ful

Wisteria Wonder-ful published on 11 Comments on Wisteria Wonder-ful

If you haven’t already heard, the new In Colors for 2011-12 have been revealed and demonstrators are able to get them now.  Talk about an advantage to being a demonstrator!!  My little pre-order for the new catalog arrived Monday and I have finally been able to play with the new colors.

The first color I pulled out to use was Wisteria Wonder.  Many of you know that I’m funny about using purples but THIS purple is really beautiful.  I paired it with Elegant Eggplant and Pear Pizzazz for this but I see lots of other pretty uses.  Because this is a box set, I kept the layout and embellishments pretty basic…it has to fit in the box after all.  I also continued on my retired/retiring kick.  Come July you’ll see nothing but new so it seemed like a good time to pull out some old favorites.  The flower comes from the retired hostess set Of the Earth.

I paired it with some last pieces of Greenhouse Garden on one the card styles.  On this first card I also used a sentiment that comes from All Holidays (a retiring set).  This stamp has seen a lot of use…perfect words, font and size!  I hope my lighting does Wisteria Wonder justice.  Probably best if you just get some for yourself in July!  *smile*

The other card style uses the same flower with a sentiment from the retiring hostess set Apple Blossoms.  I foresee this set staying with me for a while!  The card box has a total of eight cards with coordinating envelopes.  It is a simple box to make and I have the tutorial from a post back in January.  If you would like it, I’ll be happy to send it to you (the tutorial will have different images but the basics are the same).

Thanks for stopping in today.  It is officially the beginning of summer at my house today at 3p.  I’ll do my best to keep posting during the summer but with the boys home I’m sure some of  my stamping time will be spent in other fun ways.  Have a great weekend!  See you next week.

Stamps:  Of the Earth (retired), All Holidays, Apple Blossoms; Paper:  Greenhouse Gala DSP, Pear Pizzazz, Elegant Eggplant, Whisper White, Wisteria Wonder; Ink:  Wisteria Wonder, Pear Pizzazz; Accessories:  Designer Buttons (Regals and Subtles), Dimensionals, Thread (non-SU), Mini Glue Dots, Sticky Strip

All products are Stampin’ Up unless otherwise indicated.
