Freshly Made Sketches #237

Jen Timko - FMS237 - SmileKnow what puts a smile on my face??  Yep, Wednesdays!  Especially when we have a sketch at Freshly Made Sketches as awesome as this one from Linda.  I felt like I needed a bit of a sunny card for today because we have had rain, lots and lots and lots and lots…of rain.  I thought a happy little bird might brighten things up!

Ok, he really is a Happy Bird from that set by WPlus9.  I had colored this fellow a while ago and he was sitting there begging to be put on a card.  I finally found just the right one.  This striped background comes from the It’s My Party DSP pack…yes, I may have a little bit of a problem putting it down but I’m sure you’ll forgive me.  It matched the bird.  It just had to happen!  I stamped the wire and the sentiment in Versafine ink onto Thick Whisper White paper and just popped up my little friend on a dimensional.  He was colored with Zig Clean Color Markers and cut out with the coordinating dies.  I found that Pacific Point card stock was a good match with the blue and added it as a layer behind the image.  Finally a few sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.  Love these!

FMS Final 237-001Ok, ready, set, stamp!  I just know the gallery will be full with a sketch this open for interpretation!  Make sure you take a minute to visit the team’s blogs for all their awesome inspiration!

Back to lots of flying this week (and next) but I have a few things I’m working on.  Ok, really I’m just sketching and hoping to work on when I get home!  Until next time, have a great day!

April Fancy Friday – Anything but a card!

April Fancy Friday – Anything but a card! published on 2 Comments on April Fancy Friday – Anything but a card!

Jen Timko - FF Apr - Party Fry BoxWelcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop!  Our team is a group of demonstrators who love to make beautiful things.  Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy!  If you hopped over from the super talented Kaitlyn, welcome to the next stop.  For April, we are creating anything but a card!

Before I sat down to create, I had to take care of the yearly task of assessing the Retirement List from Stampin’ Up.  I went through and started pulling some of the items and it is always a bit bittersweet.  This year, the accessory list is pretty long (as you can see from the link) and there are some “must haves” on it for sure.  Some of them are simply workhorse items that need to be in your stamp room.  Since we are making 3-d items this month, I knew I needed to show you the Fry Box Bigz Die again.  Something about this die is just so adorable!  It is so perfect for creating treat boxes FAST!  All the DSP that you have lying around (yes, you….and me, haha!), the Fry Box is a great way to use it and create party favors or dress up a little gift.  The die does all the work!  I use Fast Fuse Adhesive to secure the sides….easy and, well, fast!  For the inside, I used a 4×6″ Cellophane Bag (also on the list…..just stock up…you need to have these on hand!) and filled it with buttons and twine.  All of the color family buttons are retiring this year and if you love having buttons to match your inks I strongly recommend you stock up!!  The 1/4″ White Cotton Ribbon that I used to tie up the bag?  Yep, also retiring!  Another staple for sure.  The little clip is an already retired item and I added a banner using a Paper Pumpkin sentiment.  I use these Paper Pumpkin stamps all the time.  I hope to show you my storage tips for them soon…..helps me find exactly what I am looking for with those fun sets.  One more retired item that is shown but yet not shown is the Banner Punch….GASP!!!!  Ok, breathe!  That little banner punch that is so perfect for cutting perfect little ends.  It is still in stock but I’m guessing not for long.  Stampin’ Up is keeping the list current but really, just go order it if you love it.  TH_social_retired2016_demo_Apr1816_NA_2Whew…that is a lot of retiring stuff in one project.  Funny enough, I didn’t really sit down with a plan to do that but it just shows how versatile many of these items are.  Many of you know that I’m not much of a 3-d stamper.  Oh, I love the idea of them but my practical side takes over and I often ask “But what will I do with that?”.  This is the kind of project I can see plenty of uses for…maybe not totally “fancy” but definitely fun!

Fancy-Friday-08

So we have some great news for you in this month’s hop.  We have added a new Fancy stamper to our group!!  The oh-so-fabulous Joyce Fowler is joining us.  Yep….she is totally fancy!

We hope you love our “not cards” this month!  Tons of inspiration for sure.  I get the honor of linking to our new team member so off you go to see what Joyce has created!

Freshly Made Sketches #233

FMS233 - Happy BirthdayAs I told you last week, I wasn’t sure I would get this card done.  Thank heavens for a great sketch from our queen of color and resident Artisan, Amy O’Neill over at Freshly Made Sketches.    I channeled my inner Amy for this one and went with some bright and happy colors.

The It’s My Party DSP provided the fun striped and the black design…aren’t they fun together?  For the circle element, I added half of a Tea Lace Doily (they are retiring so get them now!!).  For the sentiment panel I pulled out the bonus stamp set from this month’s Paper Pumpkin and found this awesome birthday greeting.  I LOVE that stamp set!!  I added some Bermuda Bay Baker’s Twine and some sequins from Pretty Pink Posh to add a little more color.

FMS Final 233-001Well, super fast card and a super fast post.  On the road again…..  But home at the end of the week for a few more days so hoping to catch up on more stamping.  I hope your week is fabulous.  Thanks for stopping in!!

Rain or Shine

Rain or Shine published on No Comments on Rain or Shine

Rain or ShineI made this card a week or so ago but thought I should hold on to it for posting during this big time away for work.  Seems like today is a good day to share!  I got this fun Shine On DSP from the Occasions Catalog and this is the first thing that came to my mind when I was looking through the designs.  All the work is really done by the DSP!

I think those little raindrops are so sweet and the clouds from another pattern were just meant to go with them!  I cut them out by hand and started playing with the design.  I didn’t have a sentiment that worked for me but no worries….I just pulled out my Alphabet Rotary Stamp and created what I wanted.  Having that choice is SOOOO awesome!!  I stamped my sentiment in Versamark and then heat embossed with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I thought it needed a little something extra so I put some Silver Metallic Thread behind the word panel.  A strip of Silver Foil along the side and done.

Love this fun card for a friend, don’t you?!  I will tell you that the silver on this card is way prettier in person.  I find that if I show the shine well, you kind of miss the rest of the details.

Hope you have had a great week.  I hope to be back sometime next week but there is a chance I’ll be off for a few days.  I am finishing up a 4 day trip today and have another starting on Monday.  With all the soccer and family stuff over the weekend, stamping will be lower on the list.  Still, I might be able to sneak away for a few minutes…..  *smile*  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  Hope to see you soon!

Jen Timko - NoVa Friends SwapFor those of you who follow me on Instagram, you already saw the pieces of this card in progress of making it.  On Saturday, I went to the NoVa Stamping Friends event put together by two of the most wonderful ladies you could ever meet – Rose Ellen Eastman and Michelle Suit.  It is always a treat to go to these get-togethers!  I was pretty busy with my 10yo spring breaker last week but at the last minute (always the last minute) I decided that I really could not attend empty handed.  So I put together a few swap cards.

I just got this Shine On DSP and I have to admit that it surprised me.  In a great way.  I loved its predecessor from a holiday catalog two years ago so I thought I would mostly be using it for 3-d type items.  But once I got it in hand, I had to make cards….right away.  This is actually the second card I have designed with it and I’ll share the first in a few days.  The silver with the kraft is an unexpected and fresh combination that I love.  The colors on the reverse sides included Bermuda Bay and that is where my pop of color inspiration is from.  With the cool print on the DSP, I didn’t want to clutter things up too much.  I punched out some Kraft Card Stock with a 2-1/2″ Circle Punch.  Using my Big Shot, I pulled out my Butterflies Thinlits and my Greetings Thinlits and cut Bermuda Bay Card Stock.  I attached the circle with Dimensionals and then used Glue Dots on the two thinlet pieces.  I added on some silver sequins from the Metallics Sequins.  Because I started late in the afternoon on Friday, I ran out of time when putting them together so the ones in the stack below are without sequins.  This is a public service announcement showing why you should always start making your swaps sometime earlier than 4p the day before…..  yeah….just sayin’!  Oh well, I’m just happy they were all glued together!  And the lighting on the photo…also part of the PSA about not waiting until the last minute and then remembering to take a photo in bad lighting with your phone.  *smile*

I made some lovely make-n-take cards while at the event and received some beautiful swaps in return.  I’m going to get nice pictures of those and share them soon.  I’m so glad you stopped in with me today.  See you again tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches!

Happy Home - For you

I hope you are having a great week so far!  I wanted to share this fun little card with you as I tried to start out right with Kathy Racoosin’s 30 Day Coloring Challenge.  I won’t be able to color every day due to flying but I will participate where I can for sure!  I chose this sweet image from the Happy Home set out of the Occasions Catalog.  It is my favorite set from this catty!  It is stamped in WPlus9 Black Dye Ink and colored with my Zig Markers to create this easy watercolor scene that is also a birthday card for my dear husband.  The sentiment is from Watercolor Wings stamped in Versafine Black.  I put it on a Coastal Cabana base for an extra pop of color.

Happy Home - ZigsSuper quick post today since I’m back to flying later.  Long night last night with a snow storm in Denver and the ensuing airport chaos.  Hoping today is MUCH smoother!!  Perhaps that is why I’m enjoying this little spring scene so much.  I hope your day is fabulous.  Back tomorrow with the next Freshly Made Sketches challenge.  See you then!
