Remembering…

Remembering… published on No Comments on Remembering…

As we approach this Memorial Day weekend, my title has two meanings.  First and most important, I want to thank those who serve and those who have served our country in the Armed Forces.  For the families who have made the ultimate sacrifice, there are no words of gratitude to express my family’s appreciation.  While I’m a big fan of cooking out and getting together with family (doing both this weekend), my heart is sad for those whose loved ones are deployed and whose parties will be missing that special somone this year.  My own husband is away this weekend but I am so lucky to have him home every couple of weeks or so.  I know that he is particularly happy to be able to bring needed supplies to the frontline troops who need them!!

My title, for the second part, is about saving special memories.  As we approach the end of Stampin’ Up’s celebration of National Scrapbooking Month, it seemed fitting to post a scrapbook page.  This one was created using My Digital Studio.  Talk to your demo about it because it is a super program with new “papers”, “stamps”, and “punches” becoming available all the time.  I have been working on a scrapbook project (traditional) and have been using some of the designer layouts from MDS as a springboard.  Such a time saver!!

The layout today comes from Margaret Moody over at Pals Paper Arts, their challenge PPA44.  Go take a look at their wonderful projects using another super-usable sketch!  I also used the colors from Diva Coffee Break Designs, DCBD 178.  The patriotic colors matched my patriotic sentiment this morning!!

The pictures were taken in the cargo compartment of a C-5 at last year’s Andrews AFB airshow.  Jacob just loves that big airplane!!

Thank you for stopping by.  Wishing you a safe and happy Memorial Day holiday!!

Vogue, in a Cameo performance

The wonderful team at Diva Coffee Break Designs chose me as their Featured Artist for this challenge.  Thank you so much for the complement!!

Happy weekend, everyone!  I hope you are enjoying spring as much as I am.  My boys are playing soccer and today is going to be a perfect day to be a soccer mom.  Before I’m off to the excitement, I wanted to post this card I made yesterday.  Margaret Moody over at Pals Paper Arts has come up with yet another fantastic layout.

I knew this would be the perfect place to pull out my new Presto Patterns DSP and give you a sneak peek.  This paper is white with embossed patterns.  You get to customize it for whatever colors you want!!  How much do you love that??!!  The team over at Diva Coffee Break Designs came up with a beautiful color challenge this week and I wanted to give it a try.

Cameo Coral is one of the retiring colors in this year’s Color Renovation so I’m working on using up my extra paper.  I started with a base of the Presto Pattern DSP and sponged it with So Saffron.  I then sponged the edges in Chocolate Chip and, as a final touch, sprayed on a bit of the Log Cabin Smooch Spritz (also new to the Summer Mini).  I thought that Rock-n-Roll would be the perfect technique to use on the Vintage Vogue flowers.  First I inked up the flower in So Saffron, then I did a “heavy” roll in the Cameo Coral and finally a “light” roll in the Chocolate Chip.  I stamped all three flowers and Spritzed them, too.  I cut them out and stitched on the buttons from Button Latte.  After a bit more sponging on the flowers and the Cameo Coral squares, I put on the Chocolate Satin Ribbon.  These colors are really pretty together and I love the effect of the Spritz.

Hmm…pretty, pretty spring colors!  Love them!  Then I went over to see what Makeesha came up with for her challenge this week.  Yea…a great layout posted on her blog, Inkspirations.  I love how much you can do with this one!

I went back to my Tea Party paper for this one…still just loving the fresh look of it for spring.  I cut out some of the flowers that fit the bill for the color challenge.  Maybe that is why I love this paper so much.  There is so much you can do with it!  I added the beautiful word from Well Scripted and tied on some Celery satin ribbon with a Button Latte button to finish.  I hope this brings a smile to my friend’s face!!

The snow took my mojo!

The snow took my mojo! published on No Comments on The snow took my mojo!

Well, as the big storm marches up to VA, I am standing by for snow-blowing and shoveling!  The impending work involved seems to be getting in the way of my stamping.  And that, my friends,  is simply unacceptable!!  In an effort to jumpstart some creativity, I used not one but two challenges.  You see, they chose my layout and my colors allowing me to focus all my energy on learning how to make this cool flower!  The layout is courtesy of Diva Coffee Break Designs and it is their sketch challenge #163.  I liked that this layout was a bit more clean than some of the cards I have made lately.  I did alter it into a square just because it seemed to work better for me.  The colors are from the Pals Paper Arts weekly challenge.  PPA28 asked for cards using Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink and Basic Black.  I love that the black provides relief from all that pink!  Finally, I have been seeing these “puffy” flowers lately and had to try one.  I used the instructions from Corie at Creations by Corie.  They really are super easy…just what I needed today!  I used seven layers and alternated the paper —  Mambo paper from Lovely Flowers (a hostess DSP), Sweet Pea, and the center is Mambo cardstock.  After I got it all together, I sponged a little Basic Gray on the edges.  The paper on the card is the same as the flower.  It is hard to see in the picture but the Pretty in Pink panels have a subtle design from the DSP.

I afraid I can no longer deny that the snow is coming but at least I was able to make a card with spring colors and a cool flower!!  Thanks for dropping by…wish me luck with snow-a-palooza!!
