Hi everyone! I am the sketch designer this week at Freshly Made Sketches and I hope you will like it. I definitely did and actually created two cards.

I actually created the same card in two ways. I don’t do this often but usually have a lot of fun when I do and that is what happened with this. My inspiration was the Seeds of Kindness stamp set and dies from Honey Bee Stamps. The actually has a seed pack die too but I stuck to just the basic set today.

I stamped the image onto watercolor paper and colored with my Karin Markers (colors shown at end of the post). I added a little bit of vintage looking Distress Ink on the edges of the image to add to the feeling of age. Some lace ribbon from my stash was perfect for the sketch and I love the overall look.

For my second version, I chose Copic Markers and colored in a similar palette but more spring-like and new. Instead of lace, I added a colored border and a few pearls instead of splatters.

With this one, I used an alternate sentiment and masked the original sentiment and then stamped it in. The banner cuts right on the edges for a clean effect (the banner was used on the first one too, just with the image sentiment).

Hi everyone! Hope you are having a good week. Spring is starting to show itself here in Virginia complete with cherry blossoms. I was able to go down to the Tidal Basin last Friday with my sister (visiting during her spring break) and the flowers were just about to go full bloom. There were a few trees starting though so the day was definitely nice. I was thrilled to have a bit of time to play with the latest sketch from Freshly Made Sketches and I just love this one from the wonderful Jacquie Southas.

The new Little Birdies stamp set from Honey Bee Stamps has such a spring feel to it and the images are darling. I colored a few of them and decided the little bird house stand could work as one of the elements in the sketch. I added two sentiments from Small Card, Big Hug which is a set of go-togethers phrases. I brushed on some Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide Ink to give it a sunny feel and done.

Today I have a fun surprise for you! I’m the guest over at Ellen Hutson but I wanted to share here too. I showed you some of the new Bear Ware product line during the latest release and I have a new project using them.

I think you can see the motivation in today’s project! Did you know that only about 6% of commercial pilots are women? And far less of those are Captains (left seat and in command). There are lots of reasons for those numbers but it starts with young people understanding that flying is a career option for women. And THAT starts with a vision. If you can see it, you can be it!

And you know, it can be as simple as images for stamping. And THAT was my goal for today’s project. Normalizing the idea that women are pilots and that women are the Captain! Power Poppy Sunflower Power

A quick post today sharing another pretty sunflower card. This one uses an image from the amazing Marcella Hawley at Power Poppy. She has her sunflower image downloads available for free right now (and add a few non-free ones in while you are there as a thank you).

This set is called Sunflower Power and that seems perfect for right now, doesn’t it? I sized it to fit an A2 panel and then used the sentiment from the same download, also sized to fit in space I wanted. I love the digital option of changing sizes and perspectives. I have just realized that my printer can handle this with Hammermill card stock and watercolor paper. Game changer for me!

I colored using Copic Markers (colors listed below) and then added just a little shading behind the flower for depth. I felt like that color wasn’t showing enough so I added a stippling pattern using the same pale color but did some tip to tip color pick up for just a little more depth.

Another week, another amazing sketch from Freshly Made Sketches! This week’s sketch designer is Amy O’Neill and I love her classic vibe for this one.

I continued to play with the new Bear Ware product line and the new additions from Ellen Hutson. I fell in love with the teacher accessories in Bear Ware Dress Up 2 so that is what I used today. Let’s face it, teachers are all heroes and this sentiment could not be more true. I just stamped her, the desk, her computer and books and then colored.

She definitely needed some cool glasses so I added those stamped in a coordinating teal ink. I dotted in the eyes with a black pen to match the placement of the bear. Finally, I added some gold stars…because the sentiment said I had too. I stamped a bunch of them, colored them up and cut some out. I found this star pattern in some Honey Bee Stamps paper so just added the gold stars into the pattern.

Sometimes you get the feeling that a stamp set was made with you in mind. And today, I finally get to share one that just made me smile so much! The Essentials by Ellen – Ellen Hutson March Release is live!

New additions to the Bear Ware line of products are part of today’s release and I had such fun with them. First of all the hair for the bear. Oh my goodness! And while there are a number of professions represented, clearly I had to turn her into a pilot. I mean really. Like it was a choice. I gave her a uniform and a hat and then colored up the requisite black roller board bag.

I also took the airplane in the set and imitated the paint scheme for a certain airline I know. The clouds are from a Honey Bee Stamps die set and I have it listed below as well. And finally the sentiment. Not be be an airplane snob or anything, but I am so relieved to see a fresh sentiment with a flying theme.

I’m sure at this point you detect a theme. Since for me creativity is a stress outlet, I have been focusing on Ukraine themed projects. And before I get into this too much, I want to make sure you know about a card auction on Instagram. I have two cards up for auction. The simple explanation, people bid on the cards and commit to pay that much to one of the charities the organizers have listed (you choose from the list and they are well vetted). Now to the card for today. Using the latest sketch for Freshly Made Sketches designed by the fabulous Karren Johnson. It was exactly the sketch I needed! There are a number of companies and designers giving personal use images to inspire. This one is from the amazing Emily Midgett.

I printed Emily’s image on watercolor paper with my printer. I wasn’t sure my printer could do that so a happy surprise. Using Daniel Smith watercolors, I just sat and colored away.

I did have to cut away a part of the image (bad planning on my part on the print size) but for this, I wanted the focus mostly on the sunflower anyway. I chose a Honey Bee Stamps sentiment from a set where Emily had designed the art. And it seems just right.

The world is feeling heavy. I’m sure you agree. Among the card makers I follow are some amazing people who are Ukrainian. This week they have been in bomb shelters. They are buying supplies to make Molotov cocktails. It is horrific. But we must acknowledge it and say out loud that this is wrong. The bravery of average citizens is inspirational. I will be participating in a card drive for charity later this week (details to come but you can follow Ukraine Card Drive for Peace on Instagram for more). I had a hard time focusing so I decided coloring was the answer.

I pulled out the Sweet Sunflowers stamp set from Honey Bee Stamps. I’m sure you know by now that sunflowers are the national flower of Ukraine so it was the perfect choice. I colored the flowers, leaves and wheat and then cut with the coordinating dies. As part of the latest release from Honey Bee Stamps, there were new hot foil plate sentiments which I just had to have.

I was inspired by the foil (I chose matte gold) and decided the base needed a little more something. I tapped the edges into Versamark ink then added Gold Rich Embossing Powder from WOW. To finish, the new Warm Pearls from Honey Bee Stamps were perfect (they also come in cool colors and are self adhesive!). So this is a combination of old and new products that work together perfectly.

It is Wednesday so it must be Freshly Made Sketches day! Our sketch designer is the marvelous Cécile and she has created a basic yet innovative sketch. Such fun!

I saw the sketch and my mind went to sets with horizontal elements. And when I saw the Let’s Get Crafty Stamp Set from Honey Bee Stamps, I stopped and knew exactly what I wanted to make. I pulled out this design from the Team Tie Dye Paper Pack for color inspiration (ok, I’m biased, this is the one I designed). I colored the different elements using Copic Markers and then cut them out with coordinating dies.

I choose a different pattern from the same pack to cut with the Color Word die and backed it with some vellum to help it stand out a bit. This card was such fun to make and I’m so happy for the sketch inspiration that had me pull this out.

I have a just for fun card to share with you today! I mentioned recently about upping my game on cards for the males in my house. Today is one of those. You see, when you live in a house of “boys” (big and little), video games are a way of life, apparently. While I’m content to leave them at it, I also get to hear lots about the games. When I actually remember stuff, they are impressed with me. So that brings me to today’s card.

When I recently got a fun new set of products from Ink Blot Shop, one of the things I got was the Pixel Grid Stencil with Pixel Grid Masks. I had it out on my desk when my husband said that it looked like a “companion cube”. Not shockingly, I had no idea what he was talking about. So the boys showed me. And then, I actually got one (with chocolate inside) as part of a funny gift. See, the love language of our house. That inspired me to go forth and create an actual card. I used the grid, the small heart stencil and Karin Brushmarker Pros. I started with the center and then just kind of went from there. I added a sentiment from the coordinating Spaced Out Greetings set. The boys gave me feedback as I went along and my husband was pretty impressed when he got the card. Proof that I do listen (sort of) to all the conversations they have!
