New address and a new look

Hi everyone! This is my first post on my new blog address: stampinonthefly.com!! If you thought you clicked the old address, you probably did and were routed here. I want to make sure that I don’t lose any of you in the move!! To make sure there was no confusion, I did update my look a little. My blog header was made using My Digital Studio designer paper…love how easy that is!! All of the old information is still here in case you need to look at a previous project.

I have a quick post today but couldn’t leave you without a card. This is a card from my Christmas card class this week. The classes kept me really busy (along with a class project for my oldest son’s Halloween party)! I should be back to normal posting by mid-week.

This trifold card uses Rejoicing in Christmas from the Holiday Mini. I love this with the Night of Navy Satin Ribbon! My photo doesn’t show the Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint on Joseph’s head piece and the Frost White Shimmer Paint on Mary’s head piece, but it is beautiful in person. My stampers did an amazing job with their watercoloring during the class!!

Well, this is a Dasher post but it also describes my last week. Yes, I have been a posting slacker but I have an excuse…really!! I had/have 3 Christmas card classes this week and have been prepping, cleaning up and getting ready for the next crowd. Also, there are some changes coming to my blog. Namely, I’m going to be moving. It should be mostly transparent and with the help of the current administrator is pretty uneventful so far. That said, it is taking up some of my stamping time. With any luck, I will have the new blog up by Friday and there will be forwarding from here for a little while.

Ok, on to my projects! In my last post, I showed you a wreath that I made for a Christmas Gifts class. Today, I am showing you a companion project for the class. A candle, complete with the packaging. I used the tissue paper technique for stamping on the candle, putting Dasher on three times. The box is not from a specific template but uses dimensions that I figured out to be the right size for this candle. Again, I will post the specifics after the class (demos can contact me if they want info for their own class). Now you want to see this, don’t you??

As much as I love the candle, I have to say that I really love it inside the little box! The perfect little package for holiday giving!!

Well, of course this needed a card and the class will offer a little gift card to go with it. For today, though, I made a card using the Splitcoast sketch SC304. This card came together so quickly for me (only 30 minutes which is pretty much record time). I just got this DSP and haven’t had any seasonal DSP for a while. I may have overdone it (is there such a thing?) but this paper is SOOOO pretty!!!! Honestly, DSP makes card making so easy…especially when it is this great. I love the Cherry Cobbler design with Dasher antlers. If you look closely, you’ll see shimmer paint sponged on the Natural Ivory paper with a sponge dauber. It gives such a lovely shimmer. My thanks to SUO Challenges and Stampin’ Royalty for choosing this wreath as the SUO Top 3 and a Goddess Pick!! All the projects were stunning and I am thrilled to be chosen!

Sing along with me! Deck the Halls with fabric and ribbon, fa la la la la, la la la la!! Or, just use Deck the Halls fabric and Seam Binding ribbon to make something fabulous! Conveniently enough, there are three challenges this week which want you to use fabric or ribbon. The first is the SUO Challenge #4 which asks you to use Fabric or Waffle Paper on your project. The second is from Stampin’ Royalty with the theme Ribbons, Ribbons, Ribbons. Last is WT293 (Ways to Use It) over at Splitcoaststampers. Ever since seeing the new fabric offering from Stampin’ Up, I have had the idea of a wreath spinning around in my head. You must understand that this is significant since I don’t really sew! My mother is a quilter and makes the most beautiful things but…yes, I don’t really sew. That meant my wreath had to be a no-sew project. I had a pretty good idea of what to do for the wreath itself but when I saw these rosette flowers created by Betty at Kitty Stamp, I knew this was the perfect embellishment. I have to make sure that I give credit to my mom. When I first made this, it only had three flowers. I sent the picture to my mom for an honest critique and she told me to add two more for a better balance. She was right, don’t you think??!! I am in love with the clean lines of this wreath!

The best part is that I can actually make two of these out of one package of fabric and still have some of the Cherry/Vanilla fabric left for other uses.

This wreath will be part of a gift class I am offering in November. Please forgive me if I hold onto the specifics until that class is over. I can’t begin to tell you how lovely this fabric is in person. In fact, getting this inspired me to finally give in on the Deck the Halls DSP. I know…it is shocking that I held off as long as I as i did! I hope this starts getting you into the spirit of creating and giving your “Handmade Holiday” gifts this season (don’t forget the Handmade Holiday bundles listed on my sidebar)!!

Gratitude for River Rock

My stampers here know that River Rock became my go-to color when it was first introduced as an In Color by Stampin’ Up. It is quite a color chameleon, frankly. I love how it skews green when paired with blues and moves toward brown when paired with brown family. It is absolutely lovely with Soft Suede and the introduction of Early Espresso completed the set for me. So why haven’t I made more cards with this color??!! Can’t tell you (other than I am also in love with Cherry Cobbler and Cajun Craze and Daffodil Delight and Pear Pizzazz……)! Imagine my joy when I saw the Pals Paper Arts inspiration picture this week. Lots of River Rock leaves, Soft Suede tree trunks, a Very Vanilla Sweater…take a look:

I found some very old DSP and knew it was just perfect. One of the leaves from Day of Gratitude got the Ilina Crouse treatment. I knew this technique would be great with lots of color combinations. Today it is River Rock, Soft Suede and Early Espresso. The tip from Pals Paper Arts is to remember layers and I added a torn layer underneath the image panel. I thought it would add balance to the frayed ends of the ribbon. Here is the final result:

I am thrilled with the masculine feel of this card and may do a birthday variation, too. Hope your weekend has been full of fun. My kids had their first leaf pile jumping of the year…one of my favorite things! Thanks for stopping in!

One sketch, two cards

I found a great sketch over at Splitcoase today, SC302. I liked it so much that I actually made two cards with it! The first also uses the Color Throwdown 114 colors for this week, Poppy Parade, Pear Pizzazz, So Saffron and Chocolate Chip. I actually substituted Early Espresso for the Chocolate because I am low on Chocolate paper (the horror!!). I used the Play Date DSP as my starting point and added some dimension to the Poppy panel with my Big Shot and the Backgrounds 1 Texturz Plates. The ribbon is from my little stash my upline gave me at Regionals. I need a birthday card for one of my nephews and I think this will do the job nicely.

The first card came together so quickly that I had time for a second before heading out to the local “Cows and Corn” for a school field trip. I had been playing around with the medallion from Day of Gratitude and the technique taught by Ilina Crouse at Regionals…Rock and Roll with a Twist and a Huff. Mine started with More Mustard and I sponged on Cajun Craze using a sponge dauber. I used the Square Lattice Embossing Folder this time and some of my cool buttons. You all must know by now that I am a ribbon hoarder and this came off a package I received (Williams-Sonoma, I think). Great match for Cajun Craze! This is also for the Stampin’ Sisters in Christ challenge 60 to create a thank you card. The scripture this week is:

1 Timothy 4:4 “For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving…”

I still need some thank you cards so I’m glad to have another one completed. The weather here is beautiful and field trip was fantastic. There’s nothing like fall in Virginia!! Hope your day is great too. See you soon.

Club projects

I had one of my Hostess Club meetings this morning and I finally get to post the projects. I had such fun with these cards (and with my stampers)! The first is a demonstration of the Cracked Glass technique using A Wish for Peace. I love scenes like this with the antique look you get from cracked glass. I sponged the horizon in So Saffron, Sahara Sand, Soft Suede and a touch of Chocolate Chip after stamping the main image in Soft Suede. A little So Saffron was put in the church window and then I painted on Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint for the church. The “snow” is Frost White Shimmer Paint applied with a slightly damp Aqua Painter. Click on the picture to see all the details. I embossed it, cracked it and applied a little more Soft Suede to help highlight the cracks. The layout is last week’s sketch challenge from Splitcoast Stampers, SC301. I used my new Victoria Crochet Trim and made just a little tab to add some interest. The embossing on the Soft Suede comes from the Square Lattice Embossing Folder and my Big Shot.

The shimmer paints never photograph as pretty as they are but they are beautiful through the embossing. I am also including my other project which is a shameless CASE of a card I saw at Baltimore Regionals. I don’t know who the original designer is but thank you! It uses my new Day of Gratitude set and I love the little bit of lace peeking out from the edge. This big medallion is so wonderful and I’m in love with that little acorn!

It appears that I am fully into my fall color palette, now that I look at my last few cards! I hope you enjoy these…thanks for stopping by!

Fall thank you

Thanks to the SUO Challenge team for choosing this as Top 3 Winner!!

I mentioned yesterday how much I have to be thankful for and I continued on my thank you card trend today. While I was at Regionals, my fabulous upline gave me some fun goodies to play with so I “had” to use them today. Brandi knows that I can’t resist a pretty ribbon and she gave me a whole pack of samples to use (expect to keep seeing them). One was the beautiful Victoria Crochet Trim. How did I not already have this?? Rest assured, it has been ordered now! She also included some Antique Brads which are particularly great with the Crochet Trim. Of course I used the Day of Gratitude set again. Here is the result:

The sketch comes from Stacey Schafer who is a guest designer at 2 Sketches 4 You this week. I used her bonus sketch. This card also meets the requirement for the Stampin’ Up Only Challenge #3 to use products from the Holiday Mini. Finally, it is another card for Shelli’s October Challenge .

The leaves are stamped using a technique taught last weekend by the very talented Ilina Crouse from My Creations. You ink up the image and then sponge another color on the edges using a sponge dauber. Love the look! I going to be playing with variations of color and this technique for a while.

Day of Gratitude

This is, in fact, the name of a new stamp but the phrase means so much more. Gratitude is an attitude! I know that I run through my life so quickly sometimes that I forget to say thank you to the many people who bless my life. Something about the change to fall weather reminds me of all the things for which I am thankful. Today, I am infinitely thankful for my weekend. I was so lucky to attend Stampin’ Up’s Regional in Baltimore on Saturday and have an entire day of stamping, fun, business training and swaps. I know…that is a lot to be thankful for! Now consider the fact that I got to be with my wonderful upline Brandi and I have even more to be happy about. But the most amazing thing is what happened for me to have this opportunity. My husband is in the Air National Guard and travel is the nature of his life. Even with the best laid plans, many times he simply must be gone when we thought he could be home. Last weekend was one of those times. I had never been to an official Stampin’ Up function and could not miss the opportunity to go to a Regional so close to home. I signed up knowing the risk that he wouldn’t be here. Sure enough, that is what happened. A dear friend and a wonderful sister-in-law stepped up to watch my boys so that I could take this time for myself. How can I even express my gratitude to them??!! Both boys had a fantastic weekend and I was able to enjoy my time knowing what good hands they were in.

Fortunately, part of the package of goodies for Regionals was the Day of Gratitude stamp set from the Holiday Mini. The entire set is so beautiful and the projects on Saturday that used it were so much fun to create. There is nothing more inspirational to my stamping than a new set so of course I needed to use it right away. Even better is that the set expresses exactly how I am feeling. Here is one of the cards for my gracious helpers this weekend:

This card uses a few challenges. The first is the So Shelli Challenge (from Shelli Gardner) to create a project using Fabulous Fall as the motivation. The Our Creative Corner challenge this week uses these colors:

Regionals!!

Hi everyone! Through the magic of technology, this is being posted while I am actually at the Stampin’ Up Regionals in Baltimore, MD. I am here to show you my swap cards (as promised). I wish I could say that they are finished as I sit here and type but I have great confidence that they will be done in plenty of time. After all, most of the paper is cut…

I stuck to the same color palette for the simplicity of taking stuff with me (yes, I knew I wouldn’t get done!). Without further discussion, here they are:

The Dasher card and the Rejoicing in Christmas card are variations of things I have posted before. The Friends Never Fade card uses a layout from Operation Write Home’s Stars & Stamps Sketch Challenges. Go take a look at all the lovely sketches to choose from (and don’t forget to make a card for a hero!).
