Inky Paws #43

Inky Paws #43 published on No Comments on Inky Paws #43

Inky Paws #43 by Jen Timko | Winston Takes Flight Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Land Borders Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsHappy Monday to you all!  I hope you had a fun weekend and are ready for a great week.  I’m starting off the week with the latest Inky Paws Challenge and it is a great sketch.  I could not resist pulling out my Winston Takes Flight stamp and dies again and coloring them with Copics Markers.  This fellow really makes me happy!

I stamped the plane and banner onto Thick Whisper White card stock and got to coloring.  I thought that our little bear friend would enjoy a red airplane this time.  The little banner in this set is super fun and I did not use it last week during reveal week so I showed it here.  Love how the sentiments fit right onto the banner!  I created a “sky” with some retired DSP and used the Land Borders Dies for the curved edge.  I did flip the sketch to landscape but otherwise tried to stay true to it.  What a fun one!  I hope you will join the challenge and I cannot wait to see how you interpret it.

I went to a Copic coloring class on Friday with the amazing Lori Craig (Copic Flowers) and I just have to say that if you ever have the chance to take one of these, GO!!  It was so fun and I learned so much!  The rest of my weekend was spent being a soccer mom with the beginning of season tournaments for my boys.  Lots of amazing soccer was played and I’m super proud of my lads.  Back to the stamp room this week for more coloring and more fun!  Hope you have some time to get inky too!  See you soon!

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Newton’s Rainy Day

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Newton’s Rainy Day published on 26 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Newton’s Rainy Day

I can’t believe that it is already the last day of the March release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Today’s set will be an instant classic for all you Newton fans.  This one just has my heart!

Rain or Shine by Jen Timko | Newton's Rainy Day Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Sky Borders Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic ColoringI feel like acts of kindness are such an important part of our stamping community and this image just embodies that attitude!  Little Newton helping his friend makes me happy.

I stamped the image plus a bunch of the rain drops using Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto Thick Whisper White card stock and then colored using Copic Markers (colors listed below).  Then I just started coloring away.  I debated making the umbrella rainbow colors (which would be totally adorable, by the way) but after creating a green panel, I just kept going with the green.  I cut our pair out with the coordinating dies and did the same with the raindrop trios.  Having those popped up for dimension is a small detail that makes all the difference.  Love that they have a die for it!  I created a corner cloud by using the Sky Borders die on an angle and then cutting a second time with a stitched rectangle.  I used a base in the same colors as the rain and puddles and then chose this fun yellow envelope to match our duck.  I hope this will brighten someone’s day.  It will be in the mail soon since I created it with a special someone in mind.  Now make sure you get to hopping around because I know you want a chance to win this one!

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Cottage Garden

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Cottage Garden published on 30 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Cottage Garden

Today is a double post day and this is for day 3 of the March release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  Today we are sharing a set called Cottage Garden and its coordinating dies.  So many beautiful images!  If you are looking for my FMS card today just give a quick scroll.

Hello Friend by Jen Timko | Cottage Garden Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Sky Borders Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Floral Boutique DSP by Stampin' UpThe Scandinavian feel of this art work was my inspiration for my card today.  Something about the blue and white simply felt like the best way to show off the lovely details.  I stamped the image in Night of Navy ink and then cut out the image with the coordinating dies.  These dies are a must have because being able to pop these images up really makes the card a wow!  I used one of the sentiments from the set too and stamped onto a white panel.  I cut the scallops using the Sky Borders Die from this new release and then cut the whole layer using a stitched rectangle.  I really liked the dots of this DSP bring with that mimic the dots in the stamp.  I thought about adding pearls and other embellishments, but in the end I felt like this was the perfect showcase for the set and left it clean.  You know what comes next, right?

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Lovable Laundry

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Lovable Laundry published on 28 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Lovable Laundry

Back for Day 2 of release week for the March release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  And you are totally going to be overwhelmed with cuteness today!  The set we are showing is called Lovable Laundry and it has a coordinating Stitched Onesie Die….sweetness overload!

Hello Baby by Jen Timko | Lovable Laundry Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Darling Hearts Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Softly Falling Textured Embossing by Stampin' Up, Sparkling Clear Sequins by Pretty Pink PoshThere are so many cute onesie designs in this set and I have to admit that I have already colored them all.  Talk about a distraction!  I just could not decide what colors to use so….I used pretty much ALL of them.  The good news is that I have a little stack ready for baby cards at a moments notice.

I stamped the onesie using Momento Tuxedo Black ink onto Thick Whisper White card stock and then colored using Copic Markers (colors listed below).  I just love how easy it is to cut it out with the Stitched Onesie Die and just look at that cute stitching that the die adds.  Small details make such a difference!  I wanted to show this off with a clean card so I cut out this stitched heart with the Darling Hearts die and added the little sentiments from the set.  There are so many combinations that you are sure to find just the right one.  And the little hanger is from my stash.  Can I admit now that when you find something from long ago that works right, it is NOT helpful in encouraging a de-stash.  Now I will use all of these hangers that I have on hand (from 2013 no less).  While I wanted clean, I did not want plain so I added these embossed dots and the beautiful Sparkling Clear Sequins to add some interest to the card.  I’m sure you know by now that the next step is a great opportunity for Newton’s Nook Design fans!!

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Winston Takes Flight

Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Winston Takes Flight published on 33 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs March Release – Winston Takes Flight

Guess what today is?!  The start of release week for the March release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  I swear each release gets better and better!  I won’t even keep you in suspense.  Let’s just get this started!

I Just Plane Like You by Jen Timko | Winston Takes Flight by Newton's Nook Designs, Sky Borders Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Distress Ink, Watercolor, #newtonsnookSo you know that I almost died of joy the second I saw this set, right?  I mean really.  This adorable little Winston and a plane!  It is like Jennifer Jackson knew how much I needed this when she designed this set.  I’m forever on the lookout for the perfect plane and sentiments and this set has them all!  The hardest part was getting my brain to focus on what to make first.  I thought that I’d be good starting with Distress Ink coloring since I could show off the new Sky Borders Dies along with this set by creating a sky background.

I inked up watercolor paper with Broken China ink and then added some splatters of water.  Then I cut 2 layers of the clouds with the Sky Border Dies and offset them.  I used a stitched rectangle die to get them all evened up and created the sky for my plane.  After some debate I chose an orange and yellow palette for the plane (who doesn’t love a yellow plane?!) that I thought was fun and a great way to show off this image.  The coordination die set makes it super simple to create scenes since it includes clouds and a die for the banner image too.  I found this happy bright base that matched my plane (Sunshine by Simon Says Stamp).  Now here is some more exciting news….

Beautiful Flower for Newton’s Nook Designs

Beautiful Flower for Newton’s Nook Designs published on 4 Comments on Beautiful Flower for Newton’s Nook Designs

Beautiful Flower by Jen Timko | Beautiful Spring Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Pop of Pink DSP by Stampin' UpIt is my turn for a bonus project over at the Newton’s Nook Designs blog today and I want to share all the details with you here.  I remain obsessed with the quilled designs in the Beautiful Spring stamp set and I wanted to focus on the flower today.

The art work on this series of stamps (Beautiful Swirls) is really stunning and I thought that stamping on vellum might be a great way to show off the art within the images.  I stamped in Versamark ink and then heat embossed with white embossing powder.  Then I colored on the back side of the image using Copic markers.  It is hard to capture on camera but in person you can see the shading on the flower and leaves a bit more.  The coordinating dies make quick work of cutting this out and all I had to do next was figure out how to show off the flower!  I first tried it against white (and I’ll admit, it is really pretty) but I wanted something a bit bolder.  So I pulled this gold tag from my stash and I knew I was moving in the right direction.  I chose a sentiment from Happy Little Thoughts.  Apparently this is becoming one of my go-to sentiments!  Love that whole set!  I chose this patterned paper from Stampin’ Up and added some colored rhinestones to coordinate with the red flower.

I hope you are having a fabulous week so far.  I have been working busily on the March release that is coming up next week for Newton’s Nook Designs.  Oh, you are going to be in love!  Suffice it to say I have made multiple cards already for some of the sets because I keep getting distracted with them!  Maybe today will be the day I stay on track…..or not!  Either way, I can’t wait to share with you!  Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  Thanks so much for stopping in.  See you soon!

Wobble Cake by Jen Timko | Newton Loves Cake Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Action Wobbler, Copic Coloring, #newtonsnookI think this set is simply a must have.  A cat, some cake and fabulously fun sentiment!  Talk about knocking it out of the park!!  It is hard to tell from my picture here but my card is actually a “wobble” card.  And because you just have to see it in action, I created a video to show you.  I colored the image with Copic markers (colors below) and then added an action wobbler behind the die cut image.  On my video I show you how well the dies line up to make your die cutting perfect every time.  Love that!

I’m back with Day 2 of February Release Week with Newton’s Nook Designs!  Today we are changing directions a bit with a beautiful swirls addition called Beautiful Spring.  As with all the sets in this collection, the images lend themselves to so many coloring variations and elegant, unique projects.Egg-stra Special Wishes by Jen Timko | Beautiful Spring Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Copic Coloring #newtonsnookThese beautiful images just begged to be colored with happy spring colors so out came the Copics (colors listed below) and I started just playing with the variety of eggs.  I confess that I got completely distracted and colored all the designs before I got back on track for putting this together.  I love how easily the die set cuts these out!!  I created a watercolor layer behind the eggs to help them pop and then thought this fun sentiment was just the one for the card.  With all the fantastic choices in this set, you are going to really enjoy all the ways to color.  Just go ahead and stamp them all at once and have fun!  And you know you need to have this so take advantage of this great opportunity…

Newton’s Nook Designs February Release – Newton’s Pot of Gold

Newton’s Nook Designs February Release – Newton’s Pot of Gold published on 33 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs February Release – Newton’s Pot of Gold

Are you ready for another week of amazing releases from Newton’s Nook Designs???  Just say yes because you are going to LOVE what we have to show this week!  First up Newton himself is making an appearance and he seems to have the luck of the Irish!  Newton’s Pot of Gold is being featured along with the Land Borders die set.

Newton Finds the Gold by Jen Timko | Newton's Pot of Gold Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Land Borders Dies #newtonsnookThis sweet little stamp set is perfect for your St. Patrick’s Day fun but I love that the sentiments will be ones you can turn to again and again.  I started by coloring my image with Copic Markers (colors listed below) and while I was coloring, I had some inspiration.  How about using sequins as gold?!  Yes, they are totally perfect with the scale of the image and I could not even be more excited about how this turned out.  So how did I get the sequins on there?  It was actually easier than I thought it would be.  I put a ‘blob’ (yep, official crafting term) of Ranger Multi Medium Matte Glue on a scrap of paper and then using a toothpick end, applied the glue where I wanted it to be.  Then just added the sequin on top.  I put down one layer in the placement of the gold on the stamp image and once dry, added some more on top.  This glue dries pretty quickly and most importantly, it dries with a matte finish.

I needed just the right layer for this fun image to go on, so I created a little interest using the Land Borders Die. I cut a piece of Green Apple Card Stock (SSS) with the border die, then laid it on some white card stock and cut again with a stitched rectangle.  The sentiment is really one that I’m happy to add to my repertoire (being a hoarder collector of sentiments).  Now here is the best part….

Sweet Hearts for Newton’s Nook Designs

Sweet Hearts for Newton’s Nook Designs published on 5 Comments on Sweet Hearts for Newton’s Nook Designs

Sweet Hearts by Jen Timko | Woodland Duos Stamp Set and Darling Hearts Dies by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnookToday I’m sharing a fun bonus card using the Woodland Duos Stamp Set by Newton’s Nook Designs.  When this set released in January, I have to admit that I first focused on the darling critters.  As I looked at the set more, though, I realized that these little heart images were ones that I needed to use as soon as possible!

I stamped the hearts using three colors (Daffodil Delight, Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo from SU).  I used my Misti to make sure they were inked really well so you can see the fabulous detail of each heart.  Then using the little heart die from the coordinating Darling Hearts Dies I cut them out.  The hardest part of the card is lining up the hearts.  But I believe in smarter not harder!  You want to see how I did it to make it simple?  Yep, I thought so!I started by using my grid mat to line them up and get the spacing right. Then, I laid some Press and Seal Wrap onto the hearts so I could move them and keep their positioning. Finally, I added foam tape to the backs of the hearts and attached them to my white card stock.  Just carefully pull off the Press and Seal and the alignment is perfect.  And you look like a genius!  I added some retired SU washi tape along the sides of my card base.  I thought the pattern was a nice match to the patterns in the hearts.  The sentiment comes from another January release set, Love & Chocolate.  I added a little baker’s twine to the top to finish the card.

While this could certainly be a Valentine, I actually created this card as a birthday card for my youngest son who just turned 11.  He is such a great kid and he makes all of our lives a bit sweeter.  This is the absolute perfect sentiment for him!  Hope you have enjoyed my card and my tips.  Can’t wait to hear what you think!
