Fabulous!! New stamps!!

Fabulous!! New stamps!! published on 14 Comments on Fabulous!! New stamps!!

Is there anything better than new stamps??!!  Hmmm, well there is chocolate but new stamps are right up there in my favorite things list!  I received some new things this week and “needed” to put them to good use as quickly as possible.  So I did the challenge search and found some great ones!  First I found this sketch challenge from Stamping 411:

This is one of those fantastic, use it again and again, layouts!  I also saw the color challenge for this week at Color Throwdown for Soft Suede, Cherry Cobbler and Kraft.  Oh my, how I love that combination.  Because I got some new sets, I stayed away from the temptation of using Dasher (but I really wanted to!!).  Instead I went to the inspiration challenge over at Splitcoast today IC258.  I found a cool rug from Company C that reminded me of Fast & Fabulous (my new hostess set, conveniently).  I got to work and here is my card:

I did some light watercoloring on the flowers with Crumb Cake (formerly known as Kraft) and Cherry Cobbler.  It was stamped in Soft Suede.  While the layout didn’t call for it, after changing the direction the card needed something.  Buttons were the solution!!  The dots along the vine on the rug just seemed to call for them.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.  Hope to see you again soon!

Stamps:  Fast & Fabulous, Because I Care (words); Paper:  Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White; Ink:  Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler; Accessories:  Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding, Buttons (Neutrals and Regals), Big Shot, Square Lattice Embossing Folder, Blender Pen

New address and a new look

New address and a new look published on 3 Comments on New address and a new look

Hi everyone! This is my first post on my new blog address: stampinonthefly.com!! If you thought you clicked the old address, you probably did and were routed here. I want to make sure that I don’t lose any of you in the move!! To make sure there was no confusion, I did update my look a little. My blog header was made using My Digital Studio designer paper…love how easy that is!! All of the old information is still here in case you need to look at a previous project.

I have a quick post today but couldn’t leave you without a card. This is a card from my Christmas card class this week. The classes kept me really busy (along with a class project for my oldest son’s Halloween party)! I should be back to normal posting by mid-week.

This trifold card uses Rejoicing in Christmas from the Holiday Mini.  I love this with the Night of Navy Satin Ribbon!  My photo doesn’t show the Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint on Joseph’s head piece and the Frost White Shimmer Paint on Mary’s head piece, but it is beautiful in person.  My stampers did an amazing job with their watercoloring during the class!!

Thanks for stopping by my new home!  Hope you’ll be a regular visitor!

Stamp:  Rejoicing in Christmas; Paper:  Night of Navy, Crumb Cake, Watercolor, Very Vanilla (inside); Ink:  Stazon, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Blush Blossom, Night of Navy, So Saffron; Accessories:  Shimmer Paints, Aquapainter, Blender Pen, Night of Navy Satin Ribbon, Big Shot, Backgrounds 1 Texturz Plates

Regionals!!

Regionals!! published on 3 Comments on Regionals!!

Hi everyone!  Through the magic of technology, this is being posted while I am actually at the Stampin’ Up Regionals in Baltimore, MD.  I am here to show you my swap cards (as promised).  I wish I could say that they are finished as I sit here and type but I have great confidence that they will be done in plenty of time.  After all, most of the paper is cut…

I stuck to the same color palette for the simplicity of taking stuff with me (yes, I knew I wouldn’t get done!).  Without further discussion, here they are:

The Dasher card and the Rejoicing in Christmas card are variations of things I have posted before.  The Friends Never Fade card uses a layout from Operation Write Home’s Stars & Stamps Sketch Challenges.  Go take a look at all the lovely sketches to choose from (and don’t forget to make a card for a hero!).

I have lots of cutting left to do, so that is it for now.  Have a great weekend and I look forward to sharing fun new projects with the stamp set I will get this weekend.  See you soon!

Happy thoughts and happy colors

I have never considered myself a “Brights” stamper but, with the new Color Renovation at Stampin’ Up, Brights may be my favorite.  Yes, yes…favorite is relative since I do have Seasonal Stamper’s Disorder*.  In any case, today’s card puts the focus on this color group.  My layout today comes from MaryJo’s TechnoStamper Monday Lunchtime Sketch Challenge.  The stamp set is one that I keep reaching for…a hostess level 2 set called Apple Blossoms.  The flowers and the little leaves are such fun!  It is also a set that I see using a lot for teacher gifts later on this year.  Talk to your demonstrator about how to earn this level 2 set by hostessing a workshop!!  If you don’t have a demonstrator, I would be happy to help you myself.  The buttons are from the Brights Collection of Designer Buttons.  There are 72, yes 72, buttons in each box (trust me, it is stuffed full) and I don’t feel at all guilty about putting so many buttons on one card.  Take a look at this fun layout:

This card will be perfect for a friend who is visiting later today!  Hope you have a great day and I appreciate you dropping by!

Stamp:  Apple Blossoms; Paper:  Daffodil Delight, Real Red, Whisper White, Early Espresso; Ink:  Old Olive, Real Red, Tempting Turquoise, Daffodil Delight, Early Espresso; Accessories:  Brights Designer Buttons, Real Red Wide Grosgrain, Corner Rounder Punch, Scallop Trim Border Punch, Thread

Concord Toile

Thanks to the team over at Pals Paper Arts for making my card an Artist Pick this week!  I am so thrilled!

I have to admit that the mojo went missing this morning.  Maybe it has to do with the fact that my kids were running around and asking all kinds of questions but, hey…that’s what they are supposed to do, right?  I tried watercoloring my Elements of Style, embossing the watercolored images, re-watercoloring, sponging…you get the picture.  Suffice it to say, there was no image worth saving.  That is when I simplified.  If watercoloring wasn’t going to work today, it was time to skip it!  The big flower stem in the set looks like toile to me and then it hit me.  Pals Paper Arts has a monochromatic challenge and the color is PURPLE.  Ummm, ok.  Well, I have to admit that purple is not a go to color for me.  The toile idea and the purple did seem to work though.  With all my reservations about purple, the new Concord Crush really is an appealing color.  It is so rich and almost dark enough to have a neutrals feel.  The OCC Sketch Blog has a great new layout this morning, too:

After the first failures, I was ready to try it again!  As soon as I stamped that flower in the Concord Crush, I knew this was going to work!  I stamped it on the Concord paper with Craft White and then popped out some butterflies with my Beautiful Wings embosslit.  Seems my Big Shot has been getting more of a workout lately!

With the elegance of the toile look, I added some White Organza ribbon.  Finally, I wanted to dress up the butterfly so I got the new Basic Pearl Jewels out.  These little things are so very cool!  Pull them off, stick them on, instant elegance!!  Here is the final result:

And here is a close-up of the butterfly:

Details on the butterfly:  I attached the Concord little butterfly to the toile big one with a little Dotto along the midde.  I cinched the ribbon with some thread and then tied the butterfly onto the ribbon.  My original intention was to leave thread antennae so I had a knot at the top of the butterfly.  Once I started putting on the pearls, I realized that the thread wasn’t right and trimmed it down.  I simply attached the big pearl to the knot…makes it look like I planned it but lucky is better than good sometimes!

The best part about this card is that I have a dear friend who loves purple and has a “significant” birthday coming up.  Shhh, don’t tell her that this is her card!!  Thanks so much for stopping in today!

Cherry Silhouette

I have to say, the new colors at Stampin’ Up are making me happier and happier!!  Every time I use them, the Color Renovation makes even more sense.  Today’s color of choice was Cherry Cobbler and what a fabulous red this is…don’t even get me started on what lovely Christmas things will happen with it!  My starting inspiration today is challenge number 11 over at Stampin’ Celebration:

Look at those beautiful flowers…yep, I see Cherry Cobbler!  I also pulled a little Baja Breeze from the table cloth as an accent color.  The flowers look just like the ones in my new hostess set Silhouette Sentiments so the stamp set choice was easy.  I found this layout over at Clean & Simple:

I love the little panels with the tiny flowers of the stamp set!

The little Baja strip of DSP comes from the Play Date set of papers.  I can’t tell you how much I will be using the new Early Espresso family of products (it is a “Getting Started” color so it has lots of coordinating accessories)!!  The color of this ribbon is so much richer in person.

This card is for my wonderful sister’s birthday.  This red is a color I have always associated with her since it is just beautiful on her.  How lucky for me that I have it as part of the new color palette!  Thanks for taking a look today.  Don’t forget to leave a comment since they are much appreciated!

A "Blue Carrot" Funk

A "Blue Carrot" Funk published on 7 Comments on A "Blue Carrot" Funk

This is definitely NOT to be confused with a blue funk.  Today over at Splitcoast, their Inspiration Challenge uses a store called Blue Carrot.  I found this really cool picture there and it reminded me of my brand new, never yet used set called Funky Four (p. 93).

The colors also worked for the coordinating paper called Play Date (p. 175).  Then I  found this great layout from Stamping 411:

Before I get into the card details, I have to give a huge thanks to the Operators at Stamping 411.  I had read their tutorial on mounting the stickers on Stampin’ Up’s new cling mount stamps.  Well, I just got my first set of those and the tutorial was right on target (although I don’t trim the rubber)!!  My cling mount stamps cling perfectly and I may be a convert!!  Check out all the great info over there…it is fantastic!

Back to my card.  I must say that this one came together pretty easily (it had to, it is a Saturday and my house is crazy on Saturdays!).  I am in love with the little leaves in both Funky Four and Apple Blossom (hostess level 2), and I am thrilled that they are in the DSP.  Using my trusty Stamp-a-ma-jig, I stamped the three flowers using the plate as a motivation.  The Olive button is from the new Brights Designer Buttons collection and it was the perfect way to make a quick bow with my Real Red Wide Grosgrain.  I added another little flower inside the card and it is ready to send off to one of my sons’ schools.  They were kind enough to put together a bag of 4th of July cookout goodies for military families and the one they gave us was amazing.  How lucky we are to have such a community!!

My picture seems a little blurry but it will have to do for now (off to play outside with the kids).  Your comments are valued and I look forward to your thoughts on all the new items!

Stamp:  Funky Four, Apple Blossoms (words); Paper:  Play Date DSP, So Saffron, Real Red, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White; Ink:  So Saffron, Real Red, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip; Accessories:  Real Red Wide Grosgrain, Brights Designer Buttons, Dimensionals, Thread, Stamp-a-ma-jig

Double the fun!

Double the fun! published on 3 Comments on Double the fun!

As I posted my baby cards last weekend, I told you that I had been working on a big (for me) project.  Well, the secret is out and I can share now.  A dear friend of mine is pregnant with twins and I was part of a group that made her matching scrapbooks.  Her twins are actually one boy and one girl so the scrapbook use the same layouts (bacically) but with different papers.  You may or may not know that I am not much of a scrapbooker.  I have used My Digital Studio with some wonderful success but have never made entire traditional scrapbooks.  Together with two of my friends, Christine and Simone, we committed to making these books.  Let’s face it, the mom of twins isn’t going to have time to scrapbook for a while!!

We started by getting two of the adorable Olive Polka Dot 6″x6″ albums from the Summer Mini.  Then, we chose the Petal Party and Happy B-day Simply Scrappin’ Kits as the base for each.  It is amazing how stampers with totally different styles can create a unified project just by using the same papers!!  The best part is that we had lots of paper and self-adhesives left over so that the mom can add finishing touches once the pictures are in.

To add to the fun, there is a challenge over at Stampin’ Royalty this week that is about “Seeing Doubles” – SR#26.  It seemed like the perfect time to post some of these great pages.

To start, I have the two cover pages (created by me):

I really don’t have room for all the pages but I am going to show you a couple of my favorites!  Take a look at the fabulous artwork on the “first tooth” pages created by Simone (on the left, each pairing).  Her dear husband drew it for her…wonderful!

And the following pages were created by Christine as “Grandparent” pages:

We tried to leave lots of room for journaling and embellishment after the pictures are put in.  We were so thrilled with the final result and, more importantly, the mom-to-be seemed to love it!  So glad you stopped by and I hope to see you again soon!

Busy, busy, busy…

Busy, busy, busy… published on 3 Comments on Busy, busy, busy…

It is official…I have survived the first week of summer break and I’m still able to be awake after the kids go to bed.  We have had a lot going on and I have been sadly lacking in my posts.  I’m definitely having to adjust to the new schedule!!  That said, I have been busily creating but I can’t post it quite yet.  I can tell you that I was working with some friends on a special gift for a special someone who is having a baby shower this weekend.  I don’t want to spoil any surprises so I will say no more!

Because I was doing the “other” project, I just got around to cards yesterday.  Now, this shower is for twins…how fun is that??!!  Well, maybe not for Mommy late in the pregnancy but fun for the rest of us!!  I did, however, come to the rapid conclusion that most baby stamps use the words “one”, “baby” and other singleton things like that.  Not only that, I have virtually no baby stamps (a situation that will be fixed soon after July 1st!).  I went to one of my Stampin’ friends and raided her stamp stash.  Once home, Margaret Moody and the Pals Paper Arts  team saved me once again.  They have a sketch challenge this week (PPA48), thank heavens!!  As usual, I can’t seem to load their sketch so you’ll have to drop on by and see it for yourself (and give it a try)!!  Now that I have my new catalog, I have doubled my efforts to use up old papers.  Because the twins are a boy and a girl, this left me room to use pink and blue (I know, pretty traditional but it works).  I saw the onesie in A Little Love and knew what I wanted to do!  The idea is in no way original but I have never used it and I’m so happy with this card!

I used retired DSP (Bella Birds) with the Bordering Blue and So Saffron strips.  The onesies were paper pieced to add a little interest after I colored them with Pink Pirouette – my brand new marker – and Bordering Blue (popped up on Dimensionals).  I used the “Welcome” part of “Welcome Baby” from the Short & Sweet set.  Finally, I dyed some thread with my Chocolate Chip marker for the clothesline.  I must say that this card makes me smile!!

I needed another card for the same shower and turned to the So Many Scallops set (ret, SAB).  I love the little baby set in it other than it says “Sweet One”.  I used my Pretty in Pink and Bordering Blue markers to fill in everything but the words on the stamp and stamped it first.  I cleaned the stamp thoroughly and then inked up the “Sweet” word only.  Using my handy-dandy Stamp-a-ma-jig, I put the word right where it belongs.  I must say, I’m feeling pretty clever about these modifications (and very sympathetic to parents/friends of multiples when it comes to stamping)!  I used last week’s Stamping 411 sketch, SSC156.  Take a look at Lee Conrey’s card here and you’ll see my ribbon inspiration for this sketch.

The DSP on this one is from the Sweet Pea paper pack (ret).  I used the beautiful White Organdy ribbon and cinched the bow together with a 5/16″ White Jumbo Brad.

Well, these are the cards and I can’t wait to share some of the gift pictures with you!  Thanks for stopping in.  I hope you have a great weekend!

Willow Anniversary

Willow Anniversary published on No Comments on Willow Anniversary

Nine years ago today, I had the great privilege of marrying a wonderful man.  Today, I celebrate the Willow/Pottery anniversary with him!!  We try very hard to stick to the “yearly” gifts.  And trust me…that can require some real creativity!  At least the card was easy to come up with!!  There is nothing truly original here but this is the first time I have used the set this way.  I was inspired by Carol ‘Anne’s work over at Stampin’ Stressaway.  I didn’t brayer but used sponges on Whisper White paper.  I started with Blush Blossom, added River Rock and finally finished with Soft Suede.  The base of the card is the new Early Espresso (GORGEOUS!!) and the ribbon is non-SU (I just can’t wait until Jul 1st to order the new SU Espresso Satin ribbon!).  The little cattails are punched out of Espresso with a slot punch.

The sentiment is from Well Scripted and sums up exactly how I feel about my dear husband.  Thanks for stopping by.  I have some more cards to post so you can expect to see them tomorrow!
