SugarPea Designs Sweet Peek Week – Day 1

SugarPea Designs Sweet Peek Week – Day 1 published on 23 Comments on SugarPea Designs Sweet Peek Week – Day 1

I am so happy to be here all week for the SugarPea Designs Summer Release Sweet Peek Week!! This spring release is full of fun products that are perfect for every stamper. And we have team hop, of course, to share inspiration. The release goes live on Friday, July 2nd at 2p Eastern.

Today we are sharing four new products: Captain Of My Heart Stamp Set, SugarCut – Captain Of My Heart, Pirate Treasure Map Stencil, and SugarCut – Ahoy.

I started with the Pirate Treasure Map Stencil. On white paper, I brushed on Antique Linen Distress Ink. Then using the stencil, I added details using more Distress Ink colors. I intentionally made a few of them messy and added some water splatters. Then I cut the map out and roughed up the edges a bit. Next up, I stamped images from the Captain Of My Heart set in Momento Tuxedo Black ink.

I had so much fun coloring them with Copic Markers and then cut them out with their coordinating dies. I inked up the base with a bit more Distress Ink and stamped on a sweet sentiment from the set. Love how well this combination works together.

Freshly Made Sketches #489

Freshly Made Sketches #489 published on 6 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #489

Today is a fun new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches! I love what designer Linda Callahan has given us and I think there will be lots of ways to be creative with this one.

I was playing in the stamp room the other day and decided to pull out my Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks in Stream, Purple Twilight and Wild Plum plus Gold Mixative. I had this panel left over from another project and thought it might be perfect for today’s sketch. The bold colors with the gold really do all the work. I had made a larger panel to start. With a rectangle die, I cut out a part of the panel and then used another section for the sentiment, the Thanks SugarCut die from SugarPea Designs.

I wanted the sentiment to jump out a bit more, so I smooshed on some Versamark and added clear embossing powder to add some shine. I will say that this is one of those cards that is much prettier in person! To keep with the sketch, I added sequins in the proper placement choosing gold to accent the gold in the panel.

I hope you enjoy this card today and all the inspiration from the team at FMS! Come over and join the fun! Back on Friday with a new card.

Happy Birthday Script for SugarPea Designs

Happy Birthday Script for SugarPea Designs published on No Comments on Happy Birthday Script for SugarPea Designs

Happy Tuesday everyone! I’m up today on the SugarPea Designs blog with this card. I realized that I was missing birthday cards in my stash, particularly gender neutral ones. So I decided to create one that I can make using different color combinations.

I loved this SugarCut – Happy Birthday Script as a starting place and built the card around it. Using white card stock, I inked on Distress Oxide Inks in Salvaged Patina, Mowed Lawn and Squeezed Lemonade. These seemed like the perfect summer color combination! After I did a basic application of ink, I used the Skinny Stripes Stencil and re-applied the colors. I love how the tone over tone inking makes for an easy yet detailed background. I inked the same colors on an extra piece of white paper and cut out the sentiment. To help the sentiment pop a bit against the background, I cut some vellum with the SugarCut – Stitched Rectangles and added the die to it.

I hope you like this card and all the color possibilities. A fun way to enjoy a day in the craft room making a whole series of birthday cards! Thanks for stopping in today. See you tomorrow for the latest from FMS.

SPD Mix 80 and FMS 488

SPD Mix 80 and FMS 488 published on 6 Comments on SPD Mix 80 and FMS 488

Happy Wednesday! Well, I survived. Graduation is complete, my son also turned 18 over the weekend and I didn’t embarrass him with hysterics or other buffoonery. So we are settling into the idea of having a future college freshman on our hands. Yeah, glad I have stamping therapy!

For today, I have a combination card to share. I am using the brand new SugarPea Designs Mix It Up Challenge combined with this week’s Freshly Made Sketches sketch designed by the always amazing Jen Mitchell. I even was lucky enough to have a guest in the craft room while I made it — my SISTER!!

I loved the colors and textures in the inspiration photo so naturally I went right to the Beautiful Books Stamp Set from SugarPea Designs. I stamped the book and glasses (one of my favorite elements) and added a bit of Copic Marker shading. I used Everyday Sentiments and the Sentiment Strips SugarCut for the sentiment. To mimic the stripes in the photo, I pulled out the Gradient Stripes Stencil and sponged on some light gray ink onto Fog Gray card stock. I thought it needed just a little more color so I sponged teal ink onto some vellum to put behind the book and a nice way to finish the sketch.

Thanks so much for stopping in today! I hope you will play along with both of these fun challenges. Remember the SugarPea one runs all month with a chance to win.

Please bear with me…today is the day. Graduation day for my oldest. I’m so excited for him and yet it feels so bittersweet. Naturally, all that I’m working on right now seems to be directly related to graduation but I’m hoping it will provide a bit of inspiration for you.

I’m the sketch designer for Freshly Made Sketches this week. I chose a sketch based on some cards I had in my head. I even mostly stuck to my own sketch! *smile*

These are more cards that my son asked for to give to his friends. I tried to keep them simple but still special. I guess you have gathered that the school colors are red and white. I used some metallic paper from my stash (it has a matte finish and I cannot remember the name).

I used the Block Alphabet SugarCut Dies from SugarPea Designs to cut the word and then used the negative panel too. A little planning and lining up makes it easy to get two cards for one cut. The little cap is from the Cap and Gown Stamp set and coordinating Honey Cuts by Honey Bee Stamps.

I used some patterned paper from my stash as a base and the red print from the Love Letters Paper Pack by Honey Bee Stamps. The whole card is 7″ x 3.5″.

Wish me luck today that I don’t totally embarrass my son as a blubbering mess. The only saving grace is that I know I’ll be in good company with other parents. Thanks for stopping in today. Hope you will play along with my sketch this week.

Vintage Branches for SugarPea Designs

A couple of weeks ago, during Sweet Peek Week, I shared a card showing the SugarCut – Botanical Branches from SugarPea Designs. It was a card that came together quickly with the help of these beautiful dies plus a new word die and stencil. I was inspired to use exactly the same layout to create a totally different card and I hope you like this concept.

It started when I first saw the Splash of Color Stamp Set. While my first use of it was bold and clean, I immediately thought that it could be used for vintage style cards too. So that is what I made. I started with brushing Antique Linen and Vintage Photo Distress Ink onto Distress White Heavyweight Card Stock. Next I added some of the new Salvaged Patina Distress Oxide to finish the foundation. I partially inked up the Handwritten Letter Stamp Set with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and stamped it onto the based. Next up, Spash of Color! I chose one of the splatters and added it by partially inking with Antique Linen and Vintage Photo. I liked it but thought it needed just a little more so I added a bit more of the splatter inked with Versamark and embossed with copper embossing powder.

Next, I inked some more of the paper with the same ink combination and used the SugarCut Botanical Branches and the SugarCut Thanks Word to cut my elements. Once I had them cut, I added a bit more ink in places and then touched on some Versamark for more copper embossing. On the vellum shadow for the sentiment I sponged Vintage Photo on the back side to make it not so bright. I placed a few sequins exactly the way I had on my original card to finish.

I hope this inspires you to use your own creations as inspiration to try something new. Vintage is not my normal style but having the basics already designed, it left me room to play outside the box. Thanks so much for stopping in today! Have a sweet day!

SugarPea Designs Spring Release Day

SugarPea Designs Spring Release Day published on 15 Comments on SugarPea Designs Spring Release Day

I am so happy to be here all week for the SugarPea Designs Sweet Peek Week!! This spring release is full of fun products that are perfect for every stamper. And we have team hop, of course, to share inspiration. The release goes live TODAY at 2p Eastern.

Before going live, we have more products to share: Botanical Branches SugarCut Dies, Enjoy Word SugarCut Die, and Skinny Stripes Stencil (**NOTE: Links will not be live until the release is available today at 2p Eastern **)

The three products today are beautiful alone and spectacular together. The hardest decision I made was which colors to use! I used my yard as a muse since it is all the shades of spring green. I sprayed the Skinny Stripes stencil with Pixie Spray to help it stay in place and then placed it on Bristol Smooth paper. I inked with Distress Oxide inks in Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn and Rustic Wilderness. While I had the brushes out, I inked up some plain Bristol Smooth in the same colors for die cutting.

I chose one of the leaves from Botanical Branches and cut two of them. Then I cut the Enjoy Word out of the darkest section (with Rustic Wilderness) to help it pop against the background. In a tried and true technique, I cut the shadow from vellum then glued the inked word to it. It separates the word from the background but doesn’t draw you away. I glued everything down and added a few sequins. I want to try this is all the colors of the rainbow!!

SugarPea Designs Spring Release Sneak Peek – Day 4

SugarPea Designs Spring Release Sneak Peek – Day 4 published on 20 Comments on SugarPea Designs Spring Release Sneak Peek – Day 4

I am so happy to be here all week for the SugarPea Designs Sweet Peek Week!! This spring release is full of fun products that are perfect for every stamper. And we have team hop, of course, to share inspiration. The release goes live on Friday, April 30th at 2p Eastern.

Today we are sharing four new products: Hey Spring Stamp Set and coordinating SugarCut Dies, Spring Scene Builder Cover Plate Die, and the Picket Fence SugarCut Die (**NOTE: Links will not be live until the release is available on Friday, April 30th**)

I decided to work with the Spring Scene Builder Cover Plate and mostly use it stand alone. Without a doubt it works with so many images and in so many ways but just by itself, it is awesome. I cut all the elements at once out of Bristol Smooth paper and then used Distress Ink for watercoloring. It takes almost no time to color and feels so complete.

Once dry, I put a vellum layer under the base die layer and then built the scene on top of it. Aren’t the little flowers adorable?! I chose a sentiment from Tuesday’s Birthday Wishes Stamp set. I like that this can be a birthday card but also just a happy mail card. While the glue set, I ink a base layer with Distress Oxide Ink and then attached the vellum layer to the top of it. Originally I had planned on making this a shaker card (and you totally could!) but it seemed to take away from the little details so I just opted out of that idea. I hope you enjoy this look!

SugarPea Designs Spring Release Sneak Peek – Day 3

SugarPea Designs Spring Release Sneak Peek – Day 3 published on 22 Comments on SugarPea Designs Spring Release Sneak Peek – Day 3

I am so happy to be here all week for the SugarPea Designs Sweet Peek Week!! This spring release is full of fun products that are perfect for every stamper. And we have team hop, of course, to share inspiration. The release goes live on Friday, April 30th at 2p Eastern. I even added on a little Freshly Made Sketches for today’s card (with, I will grant you, a pretty loose interpretation of Narelle’s sketch).

Today we are sharing three new products: Take Us To Your Cake Stamp Set and coordinating SugarCut Dies, Outer Space Scene Builder Stencil and In The Spotlight Stencil (**NOTE: Links will not be live until the release is available on Friday, April 30th**)

So there is no doubt that this is just a great set of coordinating products! Just look at how they work together! I started with the Outer Space Scene Builder Stencil and created the moon with Distress Ink. I put on light gray and then layered on the craters and inked some more. Next I added the light beam with the In the Spotlight Stencil. Now is where the real appreciation of details in these stencils comes. I placed the negatives of the stencils over the inked areas and added the background sky (all of this was created with Distress Inks and Distress Oxide Inks). With the negatives still in place, I started created the “stars”. First I splattered on some white watercolor paint. Nope, not enough. So next, I added spritzes of Perfect Pearls (in a sprayer mixed with water). Still not enough so I pulled out some discontinued Smooch Pearlized Ink from my stash and threw a little of that on too. Kind of messy, definitely fun!

Once I got that done, I moved on to the Take Us To Your Cake set. It is just darling and I love all the little aliens! I colored a few of them along with the space ship using Copic Markers. I stamped the beam image over the stenciling and then added the rest of the elements. The sentiment from the set worked perfectly with the Sentiment Strips SugarCut Dies.

Today we are sharing three more new products: Birthday Wishes Stamp Set, Birthday Candles SugarCut Dies and Happy Birthday Script SugarCut Die (**NOTE: Links will not be live until the release is available on Friday, April 30th**)

The Birthday Wishes set is one that made me clap my hands for joy when I first saw it. I am a self-confessed sentiment hoarder and this will go into heavy rotation. Combined with the cute candles, it is perfect for any one on your list. I inked the candles up in a variety of colors and cut with the Birthday Candles SugarCut Dies.

I chose a striped patterned paper, split the top panel and added the candles. This sentiment is my favorite, maybe of all time. Seriously! My 17yo son took one look at this card and claimed it for his birthday. Yes, he does it every year…no surprises for him! But let’s face it, is there a better choice for my high school senior?
