FMS235 - ThanksAnother fun week in store over at Freshly Made Sketches!  Our sketch hostess this week is the fabulous Jen Mitchell and, no surprise, she has a clean and modern sketch for us this week.  Love it!

I thought it would be fun to color an image on the big panel of the sketch and then add a die as the sentiment.  I went with this pretty flower from Mama Elephant out of the Butterfly Kisses set.  I wanted to work on my coloring for white flowers.  I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink to color.  I think the effect is pretty and I look forward to playing some more with this concept.  The sentiment comes from the retiring Greetings Thinlits from SU and was cut from the same watercolor paper as the image.

FMS Final 235-001Short post today.  Working this week!  I hope you have fun with the sketch.  Make sure you go tell Jen and the team how much you love their inspiration!  See you soon.

Jen Timko - FMS230 - Painted WishesAnother week, another amazing sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  This time it is the lovely Jen Brum as our sketch hostess and she has created one that will ensure a varied and interesting gallery.  I have been in a bit of a stamping slump (mostly due to lack of time) and so when I sat down to finally stamp yesterday, I was a bit overwhelmed with too many ideas and found myself stuck doing nothing instead.  Ever have that happen??!!  I did what any good stamper does and fessed up to the team, lol!  And the wonderful Linda Callahan broke the code for me with three little letters.  D.S.P.  Yep, I needed a directional push and that was the right one.  Yay for stamping friends!

I went over to my stash of papers and found this pretty spring set from last year called Painted Blooms.  Once I chose the Wild Wasabi stripes and the Daffodil watercolor solid, I was back on track.  I kept rummaging through some unused things and found these leftover flowers from my Watercolor Wishes kit.  The sentiment from Watercolor Wishes was just the right size and I added sequins from the kit too.  All of the rectangles are cut using Stitched Rectangles dies from Simon Says Stamp.

FMS Final 230-001I’m sure you will have lots of ideas the minute you see this sketch but if in doubt, listen to Linda.  This is a great sketch for using some of your pretty DSPs.  Hope you have fun and I’ll see you in the gallery.

FMS229 - Flying byDo you ever feel like the weeks are flying by?  Yeah…me too.  Something about this time of year, I suppose.  Over the weekend my boys started up the spring soccer season with a tournament and then the whole family headed out for a couple of days of much needed vacation.  We joined some friends in a cabin at a local state park for an amazing time!  Unplugged and out in a beautiful location with great friends!  FABULOUS!!  We hiked, made s’mores at a big fire the dads built, and enjoyed the company of some of our favorite people.  Now that we are back to reality, I’m trying to catch up a bit but out for a trip later today.  Maybe I’ll catch up next week???  Sure, ok!  *smile*

In any case, my friends over at Freshly Made Sketches have a great sketch for jump starting your creativity this week.  The talented, fabulous and oh so creative Cindy Hall is our sketch hostess this week and her sketch is sure to get you moving right to your stamp room!

My card, thankfully, popped right into my head when I saw the sketch.  I just got this awesome little plane set called Bon Voyage from Lawn Fawn and I pulled out my Copics to color it.  I thought the plane and the clouds were perfect for the set of three on the sketch.  Now I have to confess that when I started editing my photo, I thought it looked like something was missing and I realized that I should have included a sentiment.  Ah well…I will include a fun one inside instead.  I used the coordinating dies for this set to cut out the images with my Big Shot, added some Black Baker’s Twine and attached them all to a panel cut using Stitched Rectangles Dies (SSS).  The base of the card is Real Red.

Alright…off to get ready to fly into Denver and beyond.  Hoping the blizzard there doesn’t cause too much havoc!  Make sure you take a look at all the DT’s inspiration this week!  Have fun stamping!

With this trip and then Easter, I won’t be back until next week.  But I have some great ideas that are all ready to hit the paper when I return!  Until then, I hope you have a safe and blessed Easter.

Fancy Friday – Spring Inspiration

Jen Timko - FF Mar - Butterfly HelloWelcome to this month’s Fancy Friday Blog Hop!  Our team is a group of demonstrators who love to make beautiful things.  Sometimes they are clean, sometimes they are layered but the one thing I can say for sure is that our projects will be fancy!  If you hopped over from my dear friend Cindy, welcome to the next stop.  For March, we decided to have an inspiration challenge.  Wow, inspiration is the word!

12829361_10205494643597837_8157772420674638890_oIsn’t this gorgeous?!  How to choose what to focus on with all that spring beauty?!!  I know it isn’t any great shock that I was drawn to the butterflies first.  I do love a butterfly!  And the pink and blue setting on the bottom left is just so pretty!  I pulled out watercolor paper and used some Distress Inks to create an ombre effect on the paper.  Then, using my Greetings Thinlits and my Butterfly Thinlets, I positioned the dies on my Big Shot to cut them out.  I made sure on both cuts that I had a little bit of white left to add interest to the cut-outs.  Don’t you love it when a little bit of ink and some dies do all the work?  Yeah, me too.  I used a Stitched Rectangle as a focal layer and then pulled out my sequins.  I have become quite the sequin hoarder and it pays off!  The little blue sequin is from the Watercolor Wishes kit and the pink ones are from the February Paper Pumpkin kit.  I just love the little bit of sparkle and fun that they add!  And these colors are so fabulous together….totally channeling the Pantone colors of the year (a combination of pink and blue).

Fancy-Friday-08

I love using these little sentiment dies and I seem to be obsessed with “hello” on my cards lately….just noticed that as I was scrolling down some of my latest posts.  Just like a “for you”, it is such a workhorse sentiment.  You can make the inside anything from a birthday to a thank you to a thinking of you.

I hope you love all the spring loveliness from the team this month!  If you find yourself inspired by our picture, make sure to let us know!!

My lovely friend Jeanna Bohanon is up next!   As always, she will wow you!

A Colorful Thank You

A Colorful Thank You published on No Comments on A Colorful Thank You

Jen Timko - A colorful thank youToday is the last day of the 30 Day Coloring Challenge and I wanted post one last card that I created with my colored samples.  Mostly as a big thank you to Kathy for all that she does in this challenge to encourage us all to make time for a little art every day.

I used the retired SU set So Very Grateful because I just love the flowers and the style of artwork on this stamp! It is a fun set to color and I pulled out my Zig Clean Color Markers again for this one.  The flowers are stamped with WPlus9 Dye Ink and the sentiment with Versafine Black Onyx.  Not much else to add other than I am going to try to keep up my coloring as much as possible because it makes me happy.  The overwhelming participation in this challenge says that I’m not alone.

I hope you enjoy this sweet card.   Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches!  See you then!

Smile!

Jen Timko - Smile - Happy BirdsJust a quick post today to share a card I made with a fun new stamp set from WPlus9 called Happy Birds.  Sometimes you see a set that just calls out your name and you HAVE to have it and this was one of them for me!  of course I got the little dies that coordinate because, well….just has to be done!!  So for the 30 Day Coloring Challenge, I had stamped a bunch of the birds and then colored them with both Copics and Zigs.  I chose this one colored with Copics (BG11, BG13, BG15, Y17, Y06) after having stamped it with Momento Tuxedo Black ink.    I wanted this one to have a sense of fun given the sentiment so I created a shaker card.  The circle frame was created using the Stitched Mats Circles Dies from Lil’ Inker Designs….fun right?!  I used a window sheet and cut a circle from it too and layered it under the frame.  Then I pulled out some sequins that I thought were a great match.  These are some of the Bermuda Bay Sequin Trim flat circles pulled off the trim combined with some of the Metallics Sequins (all from SU).  All of this was added to a panel cut with the Stitched Rectangles from SSS. The sentiment was stamped in Versafine Onyx Black Ink.

So….I hope this does put a big smile on your face!  Coloring these certainly has had that effect on me!  Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches!  See you then!

Essence of Love…

Tulips in Pink

I am continuing my coloring practice for The Daily Marker 30 Day Challenge with this card today.  I love this retired image it is perfect for working on shading.  I also saw the Time Out Challenge #49 with their inspiration challenge: “Love is the flower you’ve got to let grow”.  Again….this image is simply perfect.  So I got to work.  I stamped with Smoky Slate (SU) ink and colored with my Copics.  Once I was done, I cut it out with a Stitched Rectangles Die.  When I put it on the white panel, it seemed a little blah so I added some stenciled sponging.  The stencil is from the Happy Patterns masks group.  I used my Ranger Mini Round Blending Tool (I love it because it doesn’t create edges).  Once I had the background on, I liked it much better.  I popped the image up on Dimensionals and added some Sparkling Clear Sequins (PPP).

Tulips - Copics

I’ll be back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  I even made another video for it!  Thanks for stopping in today.  Hope your day is great!

Freshly Made Sketches #222

Freshly Made Sketches #222 published on 9 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #222

FMS222 - Floral WingsYou know when you see a sketch and know right away what you want to do?!  That is exactly what happened to me for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge!  Narelle always has a knack for layering and this sketch shows why!  You can have such fun with how to build you layers!

I knew right away that I wanted to use a butterfly instead of the rectangle (just popped in my head so I went with it) but which butterfly?  I realized that I had not used this one from the hostess set Floral Wings and I really think it is so pretty!  I stamped it in Pool Party and layered on Calypso Coral flowers with Pear Pizzazz leaves.   It is cut out with the Bold Butterflies framelits.  Now for the layers.  I thought a little banner would be fun on top but that I should maybe to a stamped layer under the butterfly.  I pulled the vine image form the set and stamped it across some Thick Whisper White card stock in the same colors.  I took a little bit of latitude with the sketch but I like the result.  The sentiment is from the same set.  Once I had everything ready to assemble, I cut the image panel with my Stitched Rectangles dies.

I hope you have fun with this week’s challenge!  The team has all sorts of cool variations to inspire you!  I think I’ll get some stamping time over the next couple of days.  I’d love to fit in some more coloring for sure!  Until next time, thanks for stopping in!  See you soon!

You’re in my Thoughts

You’re in my Thoughts published on 5 Comments on You’re in my Thoughts

You're in my ThoughtsI hope your weekend is going well!  We are finally digging out of all the snow and life is returning to normal.  Both boys may even go to school tomorrow!  Yay!!  My oldest missed a whole week.  Eek!  I know a lot of people make fun of this area and how it handles snow but the reality is that we have equipment that is good for regular little snows and NOT for gigantic storms like Snowzilla.  So it takes a bit.  But I did have a great time with sledding along with all the shoveling.  Over all, a mom win for time spent with the boys!

Meanwhile, back at the stamp table, I was able to finally put together something that I worked on over a week ago.  I showed a peek of the coloring in progress on my Instagram page (link is over in my sidebar if you want to follow).  I was practicing my no-line coloring using just grays.  In this case, Copic Toner Grays T0, T2 and T5.  The flower is from Altenew’s Beautiful Day.  I stamped in SU Smoky Slate ink and then did the coloring.  I added a little white to the center with a White Gel Pen.  The sentiment is from Watercolor Wishes and also stamped in Smoky Slate.  I cut the white layer with a Lil’ Inkers Border Builders Die and added a piece of Basic Grey Vivienne DSP underneath.  Some Sparkling Clear Sequins from Pretty Pink Posh were a nice finishing touch.  You can get most of these products all in one place at Simon Says Stamp.

wednesdayblog-logoI hope you enjoy this one.  I had fun practicing my coloring.  Even more fun when it turns into something worth showing (not everything does but the practice is still worth it!).  Thought I’d add this in on the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge this week – the theme is Anything Goes.  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #221

Freshly Made Sketches #221 published on 9 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #221

FMS221 - Thank YouQuick post today.  I just got back from a long day of sledding. Taking advantage of the snow while we have it!  The neighborhood sports complex has some fabulous hills that are simply crazy for the boys!  Good stuff.  Speaking of good stuff, Freshly Made Sketches has an awesome one for you this week courtesy of the wonderful Karren Johnson.  I just love it.

Had no stamping time this week due to the snow madness here.  I was able to put this together quickly yesterday.  I tried a technique I had seen on a card made by Tasnim over at Altenew to create the flower.  Her’s, admittedly, is far more spectacular but I think this creates a nice effect.  I simply used Distress Ink in Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry and Hickory Smoke on wet watercolor paper and then added more water with my Zig Water Pen to move ink a little more.  The sentiment comes from Another Thank You stamped in Basic Gray ink (SU).  Despite using my Misti to overstamp multiple times, the sentiment just would not stamp completely clean.  Ah well….that is how it goes sometimes.  I cut the panel out with my Stitched Rectangles Die (SSS) and put the image panel on a Smoky Slate base.

Hope you have a fun time with the sketch this week!  So much room for fun and interpretation!
