Jen Timko - FMS273 | Concord & 9th Layering Leaves Dies, Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Paper Pumpkin Sentiment (Stampin' Up)My favorite stamping day of the week is here!  Happy Wednesday to you!  I’m so excited to share this week’s sketch by coloring genius Karren Johnson.  Her split panel concept is so fun and can lead to so many great ideas!

So I’m hoping that I didn’t stretch too far from the sketch but I really tried to make my watercolor ombré layer into three distinctive sections.  I used the beautiful Tim Holtz Hickory Smoke Distress Ink to create the colors.  I started with a light wash and then went back and layered on more ink.  The heart is really one of the leaves from the Layering Leaves Die Set (Concord & 9th) and I just snipped the stem off to turn it into a heart.  I colored a scrap of watercolor paper with my Wine Red Zig pen and washed it out a bit with water.  Then I die cut with the leaf.  So pretty!  Finally, after some debate, I chose a sentiment.  You see…I need a birthday card for my dear husband and I think this might hit the right masculine note (well, at least it isn’t a flower, haha!).  I love that the Moon Rock ink from Altenew is a nice match to the distress ink on the panel with crisper stamping.  The sentiment itself is from the January Paper Pumpkin kit.  While the kit is an adorable Valentine’s 3-d set, the sentiments are going to be in your go-to list for a while.  I love this font and this says it all!

I know the gallery will be full of inspiration this week.  The design team has some amazing work already there for you to enjoy.  Hope to see your take on the sketch!  I’ll be back on Saturday with a fun hop that you are going to love.  See you then!

Jen Timko - FMS272 | Stampin' Up Bold Butterflies Dies, Butterflies Dies, Watercolor Wings Stamp SetAfter the whirlwind of posting last week, I have been taking advantage of this week’s quiet to take care of non-stamping things.  But I finally got back into the stamp room yesterday and took a good look at the amazing Cécile‘s fun sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches this week.  The first think that popped into my head was butterflies (not sure why since they are clearly circles….but she did say any shape!).  Sometimes it is best just to go with it to see what happens!

I colored some Ranger Watercolor Paper (it is white) using Tim Holtz Distress Inks with the pretty aquas and pinks and set it aside to dry.  While I was waiting, I used the Bold Butterflies and Butterflies Dies (they coordinate) from SU to cut the intricate butterflies from White Vellum Card Stock.  Then I cut the colored paper with the outline dies of the same sets.  I pulled the stamp set from the same family, Watercolor Wings, and used the dotted border and sentiment stamped in Smoky Slate.  To help match the circle elements from the sketch, I added a white doily and some Silver Metallic Thread behind the butterflies.  I used the Fine Tip Glue Pen to attach the vellum to the colored butterflies and was amazed to see that you cannot see the adhesive.  (I had planned to use pearls to conceal it but went with a cleaner look when I realized I could.)

All in all, this is such a fun and easy card to make.  You could use DSP or watercolor different colors or even add glimmer paper to alter the feel of the card and make a pretty set.

I love how the design team has interpreted this one and I’m sure you’ll agree that they are amazing!  I hope you have fun and will join us in the gallery this week.  Back on Friday for this month’s Fancy Friday.  Until then, have a great week!

Supplies:

Stamp:  Watercolor Wings; Ink:  Smoky Slate, Tim Holtz Distress Ink; Paper:  Thick Whisper White, Ranger Watercolor Paper; Accessories:  Big Shot, Bold Butterflies Framelits, Butterflies Thinlits, Silver Metallic Thread, Fine Tip Glue Pen, White Doily (ret)

Welcome back for the last day of January Release Week at Newton’s Nook Designs.  Today is a great day for all of you who are fans of the sweet Newton!  I just adore this little kitty and I’m sure you will too.  You can see more information over at the Newton’s Nook Designs blog!

Special Delivery by Jen Timko | Newton's Happy Mail Stamp Set by Newton's Nook #newtonsnookI have to admit that I pretty much jumped up and down the second I saw this set!  This really is some seriously happy mail!!  Not only do I love the main image of Newton but I adore the sentiment and the sweet little paw print!  I decided that my little kitty would be sending out some Valentine happy mail.  Using Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Paper, I stamped in black ink and colored with my Zig Clean Color Markers.  I love how you can blend them to create perfect shading on the kitty!  I colored the top of the mailbox a second time so that I could pop it up to give extra dimension.

Special Delivery by Jen Timko | Newton's Happy Mail Stamp Set by Newton's Nook #newtonsnookHere is a closeup so you can see it a little better.  It gives the look of Newton really coming out of the mailbox!  You know that stuff you always hold on to in your crafty stash “just in case”.  Well, glad I did.  I found some mini silver brads that I attached at the base of the flag which was the perfect finishing touch.  I created a coordinating envelope and colored the little paw print to match the mailbox and added the perfect sentiment from the set.  This was just so fun to create!

Welcome back for Day 3 of January Release Week at Newton’s Nook Designs.  Dog lovers, today is your day!  Especially all of you who are owned by pugs.  The adorable Pug Hugs is going to make you so happy!  You can see more information over at the Newton’s Nook Designs blog!

Birthday Pug by Jen Timko | Pug Hugs Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnookThese little pug images are just too cute and I just love the accessories that go with them.  I chose to do a little bit of masking to put the birthday hat on the pug.  I stamped the images onto watercolor paper and then colored them with Zig Clean Color Markers using some of the grays and added orange to his hat.  I’m forever needing cards that are more appropriate for boys and I love that this set could be for anyone on your list.  Once colored, I cut the image out using a stitched circle die and then I added in this orange polka dot banner and stamped the sentiment right onto the card base.  It still needed a little something so I added Baker’s Twine to coordinate with the base.

Jen Timko - Hello Lovely Stamp Set by Concord & 9th - FMS271, CC#65Since it is release week for Newton’s Nook, please bear with me as I combine the two challenges from Freshly Made Sketches and The Card Concept this week.  The sketch from the kind and amazing Cindy Hall seemed perfect to with the inspiration piece!

I came back to this gorgeous set from Concord & 9th called Hello Lovely because I really, really wanted to use this sentiment for the sketch.  They seemed perfect for each other!  I stamped using Versafine Black ink to ensure a crisp look.  The two words are actually separate stamps and can be used in multiple ways (one of the things that drew me to the set) and then there is the flower.  You may remember the flower from my last card for The Card Concept and it really is a full card size.  But how wonderful that you can use a small portion of it too!  I used the colors from the inspiration piece (orange, pink and gray) and I love how quick it was to create this pretty watercolor look.  The image panel and the base are Shimmery White Card Stock (SU).  This paper really does take ink well and is beautiful with a light coloring hand…nevermind the subtle shimmer which is so pretty in person.  I added a layer of Tangerine Tango and colored some Basic Pearls with a black Sharpie marker to mimc the speckles from the image and add a little more dimension.

I know you have been getting tons of posts from me this week and I hope you have enjoyed my projects.  This is my first post of the day and you will see the next in the January Release from Newton’s Nook Designs in just a bit.  The FMS and Card Concept design teams have created marvelous projects for our challenges this week and I hope you will join us for both.  Thanks for stopping in.  See you soon!

Newton’s Nook Designs January Release – Love & Chocolate

Welcome back for Day 2 of January Release Week at Newton’s Nook Designs.  Today we have a set that all of you with a sweet tooth are sure to love.  And even if you don’t love candy, I know you will have a great time coloring these little treats from the darling set called Love & Chocolate!  You can see more information over at the Newton’s Nook Designs blog!

You Make Life Sweeter Card by Jen Timko | Love & Chocolate Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnookNow I will warn you…do not even think about starting to work with this set on an empty stomach.  I can tell you that the more I colored, the more I wanted chocolate!  Although in fairness, I generally will be happy to have chocolate when I’m stamping (or any time)!  I had such fun deciding what ‘flavors’ to make each little treat.  A dark chocolate, a little milk chocolate, some white chocolate thrown in for good measure and then that lovely macaron!  I have a list at the end of my supply list with the specific Copic Markers that I used.  After getting all the treats colored it was quick work to cut out the images with the coordinating Love & Chocolate Dies.  All I had to do was stack them on the little platter for presentation.  I picked a sentiment from the set and stamped onto the DSP.  In a nod to bakeries that have pretty doilies for their goodies, I added one under the platter and tied on some baker’s twine.

Newton’s Nook Designs January Release – Woodland Duos

Today is the day I’ve been waiting for!  It is the first day of January Release Week at Newton’s Nook Designs and I finally get to share with you some of what I have been working on.  Today the design team is showing you the set called Woodland Duos and it is simply wonderful.  The adorable images are designed to coordinate with the existing Darling Hearts Dies.  You can see all the information about this set over at the Newton’s Nook Designs blog!

Woodland Duos Owl Card by Jen Timko | Woodland Duos Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs #newtonsnookI thought the two little owls just called out to be colored so I started with them.  In my first go at coloring, I chose actual owl colors but somehoww I felt like I needed to brighten them up.  So brighten is what I did!  Using my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers, I chose greens to color first and I thought it showed the fun art well.  So I continued with oranges and yellows!  I am super happy with the whimsical feel.  I used the big heart from the dies set to cut out the image and then added a panel of coordinating DSP.  For the sentiment, I used the dies again and cut out ‘love’ three times from my card stock.   I layered them together to get a nice dimensional feel.  Finally some little sequins to match the image.

Freshly Made Sketches #270

Freshly Made Sketches #270 published on 10 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #270

Glad to see you on this lovely Wednesday!  At least I hope it is lovely where you are.  Just like in yesterday’s post, I am working to resist the winter weather with another pretty spring image.  This time I’m using this awesome sketch by the incredible Kim Singdahlsen.  Something about this sketch really spoke to me and it is going right into my “use again soon” favorites.

Last week I showed you a card with one of my gifts from Santa and this gorgeous Mondo Hydrangea was in the same package.  I think Santa has my number when it comes to picking stamps!  I had to admit that stamping cards like this with aligned images used to put me off because I knew they would never be quite aligned.  No more!  The Misti tool makes short work of this and the line up is perfect every time!  I stamped onto SU Shimmery White paper using WPlus9 Black Dye Ink for the base.  Then laid the little piece of DSP down and stamped again.  I figured out the spacing for the top layer, moved the others out of the way and stamped one more time onto Shimmery White.  While the Shimmery White paper is not true watercolor paper, it does watercolor nicely if you don’t need to add lots of color (or water).  I love it for effects like this.  And the added bonus is the subtle sparkle!  I used Light Blue and Peacock Blue Zig Clean Color Brush Markers and my Zig BrusH2O for a quick coloring of the rectangle part of the flower.  A little bit of Light Green and Yellow for the stems and centers.  I thought the sentiment from yesterday’s card was perfect for this one too so I used the Happy Little Thoughts set from Newton’s Nook Designs.  I stamped it in Versafine Onyx Black to keep it crisp and clear.  I popped the colored panel up on Dimensionals for a little more wow and then added some of my hoarded beloved sequins from the SU Watercolor Wishes set.  They really are just the right colors!

I do hope that you will enjoy this sketch as much as I did.  Now I have to admit that as I just added the sketch in to my blog writeup, I realized that my sentiment is in the wrong place.  Sigh.  My computer issues have addled my brain.  Good thing the team has exceeded their normally fabulous creative work!  Yes, I am still facing computer issues so I’ll be a bit quiet still this week (it has gone in to the professional Apple people to see what they can do….perhaps a graphics driver) but I’m working busily in my stamp room creating projects for the upcoming Newton’s Nook Designs January release.  I can’t wait to share!  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon!

Celebrate Today Wreath – Newton’s Nook Designs

Celebrate Today Wreath – Newton’s Nook Designs published on 5 Comments on Celebrate Today Wreath – Newton’s Nook Designs

I know that many of you in the US are feeling the effects of winter weather.  I definitely am!  My trip last week was full of snowy walk arounds, de-icing and really cold temperatures.  So naturally, I found refuge in my stamp room and started thinking about spring.  I’m so thrilled to share my first project as a design team member for Newton’s Nook Designs!

I suspect that you can see exactly why I was drawn to this beautiful wreath from the Happy Little Thoughts stamp set!  I just love the pretty little flowers and I chose this coordinating sentiment from the set too.  It is meant to fit perfectly inside the wreath.  I inked the wreath and sentiment with Versamark ink and stamped on Ranger Watercolor Paper.  Then I heat embossed with white embossing powder.  I colored the background and the wreath using Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Picked Raspberry, Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed, Mowed Lawn and Broken China.  It takes a little patience when you start since it is white embossing on white paper but just take your time.  Totally worth it!  I did a light layer of the blue (Broken China) around the edges of the wreath to start and then filled in the flowers and leaves a bit at a time.  You will have to layer the colors to get them like you want them.  Once I had the coloring right, I cut the image down using a Stitched Rectangles Die and added some sequins in coordinating colors.  As a final pop of color, I layered the image on this pretty DSP print from Pop of Pink (SU).

Coloring this definitely helped me chase away the winter blahs!  I hope that you find a little bit of spring happiness today no matter what the weather is outside!  Thanks for stopping in today.  Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  See you then!

The Card Concept #64

Welcome back to a new year of challenges from The Card Concept.  I am so happy to share the first one with you!  The inspiration piece is really pretty!

I was inspired by the gold and the flowers in the background plus the sentiment on the note.  I was lucky enough to receive this beautiful stamp set from Santa.  It is called Hello Lovely by Concord & 9th.  I stamped in Versamark and embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I did the same with the sentiment.  I added just a touch of color with my Zig markers to mimic the pink in the flowers.  All I added was a few gold sequins to finish.  I chose the Clean and Graphic style for this week.

I hope you will join us for this one.  I’m sure you will see something in our inspiration that you love!  This is my second post of the day so don’t forget to check out the latest from Freshly Made Sketches too.  Thanks for stopping in.  See you soon!
