Simply Lovely

Today is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog. With all the cold we have been having, something about flowers is calling my name. So Lovely Blooms was a fun choice that I hadn’t used in a while.

I recently got some Brusho Crystal Colours and this was a great time to give them a go. I played with all the colors in my 5 color pack (available from Stampin’ Up). On Arches Cold Press Watercolor Paper, I stamped the jar with Versafine Onyx Black Ink. I filled the jar with water using my paint brush and then sprinkled on the Prussian Blue Brusho. It is super cool to watch the color spread and move. I did the same with the flower and the leaves. The flower uses Gamboge, Brilliant Red and Yellow and the leaves use Moss Green and Yellow. Just put on the water and sprinkle…it is that easy. I had my 11 yo help on the leaves because he thought it was so interesting. Once everything was dry, I cut the flowers and the leaves with the coordinating dies. For the background wash, I sprinkled a little bit of powder into a palette and added water to create the paler version of the colors. I love that you can use this in multiple ways too. I pulled a sentiment from Simply Relative…such a must have set! You can’t see it from this picture but I actually attached the watercolor panel to a pale yellow card base for a sweet surprise when you open the card.

Freshly Made Sketches #319

Happy New Year!!! I hope you had a safe and joyful holiday season! So excited to be back today after the hiatus. We have the perfect sketch at Freshly Made Sketches courtesy of the amazing Rita Wright and it will get you back to stamping in no time!! This big panel provides infinite opportunities!

I had an unused stamp set from the fall that called out to be colored and I’m so happy I worked with it. On Fabriano Extra White Watercolor Paper, I stamped with Versafine Ink with this flower from Bouquet of Thanks from Simon Says Stamp. Along with the stamp I had gotten the Debby’s Palette of Daniel Smith Watercolors so naturally I looked to Debby Hughes for inspiration on the coloring itself. I found this card and was inspired! I blended the colors of the palette with a loose coloring and had such fun playing with how they mixed. A good way to start getting back in the groove! The sentiment is from the same set and I used a panel of green behind the watercolor layer and then used a base of Fog cardstock.

Freshly Made Sketches #318

I’m happy to have the last Freshly Made Sketches card of the year to share with you today! Whew….always amazing to look back at all the sketches and inspiration!! It is fitting that our resident birthday girl, Linda Callahan, is also today’s sketch hostess. I could sing Linda’s praises all day long but suffice it to say that she is one of a kind in her humor, talent and overall amazingness! And she, thankfully, gave us a really great sketch that will carry us through the holiday season. Feel free to use it multiple times and make sure to share with us!

As Christmas sneaks up on me (how…I cannot explain), I knew that it was time to reach into my pile of UFOs (Unfinished Objects). You may recognize this flower as the same one I used back on FMS304 but it has the flower name along side. I colored with the Chameleon Color Tops Pens and cut it out with a stitched oval. While it didn’t work how I wanted it to then, it works perfectly for today’s sketch. And all the stamping/coloring/cutting was already done! I backed it up with this awesome striped ribbon and pretty much called it done. Yay for UFOs…of course this justifies my keeping that pile so not sure if it is an overall win, haha.

As we get closer to Christmas, my “day job” schedule is really busy. Not sure how much stamping I’ll get to do but I’m already looking forward to having things to share with you in the new year. Until next time, thank you so much for stopping in!

You Make Life Sweeter

Did you know that yesterday was National Cocoa Day?? I mean seriously, who can NOT be excited about a day devoted to cocoa?! So of course I needed to have some hot cocoa and today I get to share a card that is all about sharing it with those you love. I created this for my December post over at the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog.

The little cups from the Cup of Cocoa stamp set are just so cute and I love all the variations. I chose two that seemed to work well together and colored them to match. Then I chose the little heart from the same set. All of them were colored with Copic markers and then cut using the coordinating dies. While a number of the sentiments from Cup of Cocoa would work nicely here, I thought this one from Love & Chocolate was just perfect for my sweet little pairing. I stamped it in Versafine Onyx Black and then cut out the oval with stitched dies. The cups and heart are popped up using Dimensionals and Mini Dimensionals (those minis are really the BEST). I added a little extra texture in the background with my Softly Falling embossing folder (and it helps keep it wintery). Deck the Halls with Inky Paws 2017 Blog Hop

I am so excited to be a part of a super fun blog hop today!! Deck the Halls with Inky Paws!! We have a fantastic line-up so make sure you hop through and see all the inspiration.

The hardest part of designing for this hop was narrowing down my choices! This year’s holiday stamps and dies from Newton’s Nook Designs have been just over the top great. But I kind of had to go “classic” so I pulled out Santa Paws Newton. I love this set! I stamped in Versafine Onyx Black and then colored Newton and his friends with my Winsor and Newton watercolor paints. Once everything was dry, I added some Clear Wink of Stella to Santa Newton’s list for some extra shine. Which brought me to choosing a sentiment. How could I resist this one from Sentiments of the Season?? I added a layer of gold washi tape and some gold sequins to add even more shimmer. Oh what fun!Deck the Halls with Inky Paws Special!

Freshly Made Sketches #316

Well, I’m moving along on my holiday cards and even though I have some that are “mass producible”, I still mostly love when I have time to make a one of a kind card. I took the opportunity of being the sketch hostess at Freshly Made Sketches as the excuse to take some watercoloring time for myself.

Before I get to the card, a little personal info. Over the last 3 months I have been on a leave of absence from United Airlines. Yesterday, it was back to reality. I went out to Denver to our training center to get re-qualified in the simulator. Fortunately, being on the same fleet (Airbus 319/320) for almost a decade allows me to not stress the simulators too much after time off. The reason for the time off?? My husband has been deployed since the end of July. For security reasons, I simply don’t discuss these things here or in social media but since he comes home this week I felt like I could share. The boys and I are really happy to get him home!! In the time he was gone: one boy started middle school and the other high school, the oldest has grown 3 inches (!!), they both completed full travel soccer seasons, I stayed sane. *smile* United Airlines has no reason to have to help me under these circumstances but when I put in my leave request (and the reasons) I got an approval in about 3 days. This is REAL military family support and I am very, very grateful to them for that. As much as I love flying, I love being a mom more and this time with the boys has been really important to our family. So while I am transitioning to getting back to work, this also means that we are almost done with the deployment! YAY!!!

Now on to the card. I guess the above explains a little more of why I was savoring some watercolor time. I fell in love with this Let It Snow stamp set and coordinating dies from Honey Bee Stamps and simply had to use it as soon as possible. In truth, I chose my sketch to accommodate coloring a scene. I stamped this adorable snowman and then watercolored with my Winsor and Newton paints (along with some Daniel Smith colors too). I thought it would be fun to make this guy look like he was creating winter magic. The sentiment die and stamp are from the matching set and I love how the ‘Christmas’ layers. I put it all on an Island Indigo card base to emphasize the little bit of blue on our snowy friend.

I hope you love this sketch and will have a few moments to play along this week. I also want to take a moment to thank my dear friends for all their support during this long 4-1/2 months. I have an incredibly great village (both local friends and stamping friends) who make all of this possible. I am blessed and very grateful! Back on Friday for a fun hop. Freshly Made Sketches #315

Happy middle of the week to you!! I hope you are having a great one so far. Today’s Freshly Made Sketches sketch is one that is sure to inspire. The lovely Amy O’Neill has given us one that can be used in so many ways! Love it!

When I saw the oval in the sketch, my brain immediately went to this sentiment from WPlus9. I love it as a focal point and it gets to be the star of the show. I stamped it in Versamark ink and embossed with Wow Bright White Embossing Powder. The coordinating dies make quick work of cutting it out. The little flower and foliage images are super fun to use as accents. I stamped them in Momento Tuxedo Black ink and the colored using Chameleon Pens. I thought the black sentiment would be great against a wood grain background so I turned to this Wood Textures DSP by Stampin’ Up. I cut it using the Lawn Fawn Cross Stitched Rectangles Dies. Finally I added some Basic Pearls to the flower centers after coloring them with a Sharpie marker.

Newton’s Nook Designs November Release – Llama Delivery and Newton’s Candy Cane

Welcome to the last day of the November Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. This release week is a shortened a bit due to the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday but we get to share two new sets again today! And….there is a Black Friday sale on release day. Yay for sales!

I’m starting off today’s reveal with a card that doubles as my Freshly Made Sketches card this week. The queen of perfect layering, Narelle Farrugia, created this fun sketch that worked perfectly with this super new Llama Delivery stamp set. While this set can work great for the holidays, I chose to make it into a birthday card. I have some family members with December birthdays and it is always nice to have a card with nary a holiday color in sight. Using my Zig Clean Color Markers, I colored these images and then cut them out with the coordinating dies. I love, love, love this llama!! The sentiment from the set fit well with the sketch too.

I can hardly even contain my excitement over the last set for our reveals this month. As always, we have Newton. And this holiday version is simply adorable. I chose the striped paper with splatters for my layering tag and then colored the image to match. This little guy just steals my heart!! I even added some splatters to his hat and scarf to mimic the paper. What a great time I had coloring with my Copics on him The new Fancy Edges Tag Dies are great for quick take and I love how you can choose different ways to add interest with the accessories. It is simply a must have for holiday packaging!

This week of reveals seems to have flown by but that means you are really close to being ready to shop. As per normal, these will all be available on Friday with the advantage of a Black Friday sale to make shopping even more fun. And now on to one last chance to win!!

Newton’s Nook Designs November Release – Winter Woofs

Welcome to day 2 of the November Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. Our share for you today is sure to be a hit with all the dog people among us. Because our team loves ALL the critters!!

I know a few corgi fans that are going to love this fellow on the sled! To be honest, I went to my Facebook feed and looked at some of their sweet corgis to choose the colors for this guy. Isn’t he fun?! I used the Land Borders Dies for his snow slope. I sponged some ink onto watercolor paper and used these little snowflake dies from the Snow Globe Shaker Dies to add a few little flakes to the scene. The new Frames & Flags Dies create a great frame for it all.

Take a look at all the options on this awesome stamp set. That husky building a snow man is too cute!! I can’t wait to go see what the team created. Now on to everyone’s favorite part of release week. A chance to win!!

Newton’s Nook Designs November Release – Cup of Cocoa and Frozen Fellowship

Welcome to day 1 of the November Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. We have such fun products to show you this week and we are starting today with lots to share. Two stamp sets and two new stand alone die sets….wow!

Our first set I’m showing you is called Cup of Cocoa! ** Warning: Triggers uncontrollable tendencies to run to the kitchen and make some cocoa immediately!! ** I used the Color Theory paper from Stampin’ Up and the Snowfall Stencil from Newton’ Nook as an embossing folder. This is a great way to stretch your stencils and add fun details to a background. I colored this adorable cup from the set to match the ombré paper. Fun, right?! The new Frames & Flags Dies create quick banners that layer wonderfully and all I had to do was add a sentiment from the stamp set.

For my second card, I get to show you Frozen Fellowship. This is perfect for holiday cards but it continues to work into the rest of winter too! The minute I saw this set, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I loved the idea of choosing one of the snowmen to stand out as unique and the used this fabulous sentiment. Using my Zig Clean Color Markers, I colored all the snowmen in shade of gray. Then chose this funny little guy at the bottom for full color (I confess that choosing which snowman to have color was the hard part, haha). I used the new Frames & Flags Dies again here and you can see how awesome they are to create layers.

Yes, indeed, this is another amazing day 1. And I did tell you there are two new stand alone dies. The other one (which I will use later this week) is called the Fancy Edges Tag Die set and you are going to love it! You can see all the features in the graphic below. Now on to everyone’s favorite part of release week. A chance to win!!
