Good Friends Are Like Stars…

Happy Friday!! Wow it has been quite a week and I’m happy to end it with this week’s Feature Friday with Concord and 9th. This week we are focusing on the City Stacks bundle. There are so many options with this set that my head was spinning with ideas. After pondering a bit, I settled down into an idea that centers on this amazing sentiment. I LOVE this sentiment.

I stamped the tree image onto Bristol Smooth paper and colored using some Daniel Smith watercolor paints. Just different shades of green. With a quick cut using the coordinating dies, this layer was done. Then I took another piece of Bristol Smooth and inked it up with a variety of blue Distress Inks. I splattered with a bit of water and then finished with a little splatters of gold Smooch Accent Ink to mimic stars (the stamp set has stars so that is totally a great choice too). And then I debated some more. I finally settled on using a dark blue panel that is cut using the “top” die from the die set. I like the detail it gives. The sentiment was stamped in Versamark and then heat embossed with gold embossing powder. Finally, to add the perfect finish with all the gold, I added a small strip of the gold glitter paper from the Neutrals Glitter Paper Pack. All the shine is hard to capture in a photo but it is really spectacular in person.

I popped up my layers on foam tape but this bundle is designed to create 3-D cards. Make sure you watch the tutorials from Concord and 9th to see how cool this is! Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Newton’s Kitchen

Welcome to the last of the June Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. Our favorite feline is back to cap off the week and you are sure to love this adorable set.

If you are a cat person, you probably had a “kneader” in your house, I certainly do. Little Kate is a chirpy purr kneader. So I just had to use this sentiment. I decided to color this one up to look like the real Newton. I do love an orange kitty and the pictures of Newton are always so sweet. I colored him using Zig Clean Color Markers and added the little white hat (because it is just so cute!!). I pulled out a pack of designer paper and found this orange print that seemed perfect to go behind our kitty friend.

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Coffee and Wine plus Wine a Little (and some FMS)

Welcome to day 3 of the June Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. Busy, busy bees we are today because the team has two sets to feature!! And there is wine. Because…Wednesday! I have some Freshly Made Sketches too…also because Wednesday.

As with yesterday, the stencil was the start of my design. Today, I chose the Serene Stripes Stencil and sponged on some Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink over it. I just made it fade a bit as it went down the card. I love stencils!!! So much wow! I stamped the sentiment from the Coffee and Wine over the stenciling and then stamped some of the images (all of this was onto Bristol Vellum card stock). I colored the cup and bottle with some more Distress Ink and then popped them up on foam dots (Dimensionals). I found some sequins that matched (YAY!) so I added those and then put the whole layer on a black base.

For my second card, I used the fun sketch designed by Amy O’Neill for Freshly Made Sketches to show off the Wine a Little stamp set and dies. This sentiment (and the others in the set) are such fun and perfect for any ~~wino~~ oenophile. Like me. I created pretty glasses that I’d love to have and filled them with yummy red wine. But feel free to color your own fave!

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Loveable Llamas

Welcome to day 2 of the June Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. Today’s set reveal is sure to make you smile…I mean really, who doesn’t like llamas?? So naturally, you will fall for Loveable Llamas!

This gorgeous stencil was my starting place of the card. The Sunscape Stencil give you the choice of the sun, some landscape or both! It is awesome! I chose to use just the sun for this and sponged on some Distress Ink in yellows and oranges. Then I got to coloring this super fun little llama. I love all the options for him and oh, those glasses. Well, they were a must to go along with the sunny background. Plus, the glasses make the card super “cool” for just about anyone’s birthday! I colored the llama and his accessories using Distress Inks too and then just layered them on. This was just a fun card to make!

Newton’s Nook Designs June Release – Playful Pandas

Welcome to day 1 of the June Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. This is just the release you needed to see for your summer crafting fun! You are going to love it. Today we start off with an adorable set called Playful Pandas and two (yes, TWO) stencils.

I cannot even get enough of these little pandas. They are so stinkin’ cute I can hardly stand it! And I’m not alone. I was in the process of adhering the card together when my youngest came in and claimed it as “his” birthday card for his older brother. He sure knows the way to this mom’s heart, lol!

I stamped the panda and cut him out (what is not to love about that?!) and then I stamped a bunch of the bamboo images and colored them up really quickly with Copics. I wasn’t sure how many I wanted so I cut them all and then created a bit of a random arrangement. I chose the Hey There sentiment for a more universal card (and birthday, apparently) but I really think this would be funny with the “sorry for what I said when I was hungry”. The black and white striped paper seemed like a natural for the card and I added just a bit of lime paper as a layer for more color. The stencils introduced today are really fab too and I have projects showing you more with those later in the week. Feature Friday with Concord and 9th – Star Turnabout

I’m thrilled to be able to share my projects for this week’s Feature Friday with Concord and 9th today. Today we are highlighting the amazing Star Turnabout bundle and they are fabulous. If you are new to the “turnabout” concept, let me tell you…it is such an original concept and really fun. On this first card today, I did three of the turns with some selective inking on the stars to leave room for my sentiment. The sentiment is from Shine On (part of the June release as well) and I love how it works with the stars! I stamped both the sentiments and the stars using Versafine Onyx Black in and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. This adds, well, shine.

Once I got all the stamping done (your Misti makes short work of this and there are great tutorial videos over at the Concord and 9th site that show you how this works), I moved on to adding more shimmer with the Summer Glitter Paper Pack. You get this FREE with any $60+ order through July 8, 2018. And oh, look at this blue! It is spectacular. I cut out some of the paper with the Star Turnabout Dies and used the little cutouts on my card. I attached the stars and dots using a Sakura Quickie Glue Pen which made it super easy. Then I added a layer of the glitter paper behind my stamped panel attached to the base of the card (4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″). I love that this is a great card for just about anyone who needs encouragement.

I could not resist making a second card with this great bundle. This time I stuck to neutrals and played with variations on silver. The Neutrals Glitter Paper Pack provided the sparkle and some Smooch Accent Ink gave the silver finish on the word die and extra stars. I cut the white card stock with the Star Turnabout Die once (multiple cuts are seriously cool too). I put the Silver Glitter paper under the popped up top layer. Then I added a layer of washi, Silver Glitter paper and the sentiment.

All I had done was cut the sentiment and then paint it (and some of the stars from the white cut out) with the Smooch Accent Ink. While it dried, I cut out some stars and dots from the Silver Glitter. Then I popped all those on the card. The “Shine” used some foam tape and the star and dots the same glue as the first card.

Freshly Made Sketches #341

I love the new sketch that we have from Freshly Made Sketches this week!! The lovely Narelle has given us such a great one and I knew I had to use flowers…because, well, Narelle is the queen of gorgeous flower cards. This pretty stamp set seem tailor-made for the sketch so I just went with the easy choice.

Banner in Bloom has such wonderful images and this banner with the flowers is an easy go-to. I stamped with Versafine Onyx Black and colored with Zig Clean Color Markers. The pretty pastels seemed just right for the image and I love how they looked agains the Fog Gray color from Simon Says Stamp. To add to the sketch elements (that were really already incorporated in the image), I thought it would be nice to add a bit of black metallic thread behind the banner. The card seemed a little too clean (even for me) so I pulled out an old favorite embossing folder called Softly Falling to add a little bit of texture. What a difference that makes!

And there you have it! Fun coloring and a sweet little card for my stash. I’m busy stamping this week for some upcoming projects. Can’t wait to share them all. Until next time, thanks so much for stopping in!

Shine On With Your Bad Self

I am so super excited to finally share some great news! I am a guest designer for the June release from Concord and 9th!!! I mean really, this is so awesome that I’m almost without words. I mean really, have you seen the June release yet?? If not, just run right over and take a look right now. Here is the link to the New Releases (live at 9am MT on the 9th of each month).

The first set being feature today by the guest designers is called Shine On. It. Is. Awesome! I love this fun Edison style light bulb and all the accessory images and sentiments. And then there are the coordinating dies. But let’s get to the sentiments. Because the second my boys saw this one, they demanded that I use it. Who am I to argue?? I stamped the light images with Momento Ink and colored with Copic Markers. I used the coordinating dies to cut out the light and fixture then also cut the “Shine” from black card stock. And then I had a thought…I know….dangerous…. *smile* Wanna see??

Yeah, I decided I needed to add a Chibitronics circuit under the light. Because it needed to actually shine. The oldest trusty assistant helped me with the circuit (because summer…and trying to keep brains from rotting on video games). The youngest trusty assistant is featured in the above photo since he really liked the end result. All you have to do is push the word shine and it does.

Freshly Made Sketches #340

Hi everyone! Glad to see you today! I hope your week is going well so far. I am starting to adjust to the fact that summer has really begun and my boys are home from school. That also means a little more flying for us airline people so that we can get all of you to fabulous destinations! What does that mean…well, I have to be pretty efficient with my stamping time! *smile* Good thing Karren has an awesome sketch for us over at Freshly Made Sketches this week. We can always count on her to color something amazing and so it is no surprise that she created a sketch that is perfect for colored images. (Just in time for The Daily Marker 30 Day Challenge and, hopefully, a place to use some of the things you are coloring)

I chose this sweet bouquet from Gina K Designs and pulled out my Copics for a little bit of “me” coloring time. The little flowers are so fun and because the are small, the image doesn’t have to be time consuming. Perfect! You know what I found out?? I used some soft blues for the jar, namely the B3X Copics and specifically B32 (with a little bit of B00). The new Balmy Blue Card Stock from Stampin’ Up is a great match to this blue family and it is really, REALLY pretty! There are packs in the new catalog that have only the new card stock colors and I cannot recommend enough that it is a good add for you. The colors are clear and happy and really pretty! The revamp has been super on point, in my opinion. Enough with the gushing on card stock…yeah, I know….but really, the colors are wonderful. I added a sentiment from the same bundle and called this one done. No extra embellishments (although I did try) and I love the clean simplicity of it.

Thinking of You for Newton’s Nook Designs

Today is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog. As I sat down to create, I was drawn to subtle and soft colors and decided that the pretty Wedding Frills stamp set would be perfect for them.

Using a piece of Bristol Smooth paper I inked up the background with Distress Inks and then splattered a bit with water. I stamped the little flower (in truth, I stamped three of them) and then colored with the Distress Ink and used the coordinating Wedding Frills Dies to cut out the images. I love the fonts in the Peony Blooms stamp set and thought the muted colors could be perfect for a “thinking of you” kind of card….could be sympathy, could be just because. I had planned to put three flowers down the edge but when I was playing with the final layout, I found I liked it with just one. To add a little more detail to the card, I splattered on some Smooch Accent Ink in Moonlight. So pretty!!
