Freshly Made Sketches #377

Freshly Made Sketches #377 published on 7 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #377

Happy Wednesday!  Today over at Freshly Made Sketches we have an interesting sketch that is sure to spur you on to create.  The lovely Narelle is our sketch hostess and we all know that she has a special talent for layering.  Her sketch reflects that perfectly and it lends itself to lots of different takes.

FMS377 by Jen Timko | Tropical Blooms Stamp Set and Dies by Gina K DesignsI went a pretty simple route, to be honest, and used flowers as the circles.  I have this great set from Gina K Designs that is so pretty and seemed perfect.  I stamped the flowers and leaves using Gina K inks and then die cut them with the set’s coordinating dies.  I added a stitched square for the layering and then debated the sentiment.  Fortunately, the set has this pretty script that has a coordinating die so that was a natural choice.

I have to admit that the call of the bright colors is upon me.  Winter ice and yuck can be done now and I’m ready for flowers!  Until the time that winter decides to cooperate, you can expect that I’ll just keep doing cards with sets like this.  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  I’ll be back on Friday with a card I created for the Picket Fence Studios blog.  Until then, have a great week!

FMS340 by Jen Timko | Hearts and Flowers Stamp Set and Dies by Gina K Designs, Balmy Blue Card Stock by Stampin' Up, Copic ColoringHi everyone!  Glad to see you today!  I hope your week is going well so far.  I am starting to adjust to the fact that summer has really begun and my boys are home from school.  That also means a little more flying for us airline people so that we can get all of you to fabulous destinations!  What does that mean…well, I have to be pretty efficient with my stamping time!  *smile* Good thing Karren has an awesome sketch for us over at Freshly Made Sketches this week.  We can always count on her to color something amazing and so it is no surprise that she created a sketch that is perfect for colored images.  (Just in time for The Daily Marker 30 Day Challenge and, hopefully, a place to use some of the things you are coloring)

I chose this sweet bouquet from Gina K Designs and pulled out my Copics for a little bit of “me” coloring time.  The little flowers are so fun and because the are small, the image doesn’t have to be time consuming.  Perfect!  You know what I found out??  I used some soft blues for the jar, namely the B3X Copics and specifically B32 (with a little bit of B00).  The new Balmy Blue Card Stock from Stampin’ Up is a great match to this blue family and it is really, REALLY pretty!  There are packs in the new catalog that have only the new card stock colors and I cannot recommend enough that it is a good add for you.  The colors are clear and happy and really pretty!  The revamp has been super on point, in my opinion.  Enough with the gushing on card stock…yeah, I know….but really, the colors are wonderful.  I added a sentiment from the same bundle and called this one done.  No extra embellishments (although I did try) and I love the clean simplicity of it.

Well, I’m looking to get in some more coloring and I hope you will too.  You can find many examples on social media using #thedailymarker30day and you can use that to get all kinds of support from those joining in.  I hope you have a happy Wednesday.  Until next time, thanks for stopping in!

Lovely Amazing You

Lovely Amazing You by Jen Timko | Cottage Garden Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Happy Little Thoughts Stamp by Newton's Nook DesignsToday is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog.  While my blog was plugging along with pre-scheduled posts last week, I was in New York City with my family for spring break.  We had an amazing time and saw as much as we could (and had the tired feet to prove it)!!  Because of the week off, I was not able to participate in the Stamping for Autism Blog Hop so instead I created my card today with that in mind.

I was inspired for my card by this logo.  I love how the colors reflect the differences of all those who are on the autism spectrum.  Just like a rainbow, the colors are better together!  I thought it would be nice to create a wreath of sorts using similar colors and this wonderful flower from Cottage Garden.  After stamping and die cutting the flowers, I chose this sentiment from Happy Little Thoughts.  It sums up how special each individual is, after all.  And on a personal note, I have a number of friends with children on the spectrum.  These parents are the most extraordinary kind of parent.  They are gentle and kind, yet ferocious when defending their children against misunderstanding.  They are full of love and tolerance, yet willing to fight any battle to make sure their children get the most they can from this world.  I’m in awe of them and pray that with each post in this week’s hop, there is more kindness and understanding for those who face these challenges every day.

Please take the time to go over to Newton’s Nook Designs for the DT hop and also to see Veronica Zalis who is the creator of the 2018 Stamping for Autism hop (there are chances to win prizes at both too).

Thanks for stopping in today.  I’m back to stamping and will see you tomorrow for the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  Until then, have a great day!

CTS264 – Hello Friend

CTS264 – Hello Friend published on 3 Comments on CTS264 – Hello Friend

Hello Friend by Jen Timko | Hearts and Flowers Stamps and Dies by Gina K Designs (Sentiments), Magic Stamp by ClearsnapI got a chance yesterday to create a quick card and I knew when I saw that latest from CAS(E) this Sketch I had to join in.  And I knew exactly what I wanted to use for the sketch element….my Magic Stamp!

I showed you a card with a Newton’s Nook sentiment during the release that used a background made with this and for today’s card, I used a background that was created using a wooden basket.  The texture is really fun!  Something about the sunny yellow seemed right (since I am ready for spring) so I used my Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink in Squeezed Lemonade.  What a pretty color!  The sentiment comes from Gina K Designs (I love that die with the ‘hello’) and then I just added some sequins.

The sketch over at CTS is a great one for CAS cards and you are sure to want to join in too.  Glad you stopped in today.  Back tomorrow with another fun collaboration that I get to share in.  Until then, have a great day!

Supplies:

Stamp:  Hearts and Flowers (Gina K Designs), Magic Stamp (Clearsnap); Paper: Basic Black (SU), Solar White (Neenah); Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink (Squeezed Lemonade), Versafine Onyx Black; Accessories: Big Shot, Stitched Rectangles Dies (SSS), Sequins

Freshly Made Sketches #324

Freshly Made Sketches #324 published on 10 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #324

FMS324 by Jen Timko | Hearts and Flowers Stamps and Dies by Gina K Designs, Watercolor, Lawn Fawn Note CardsThis is my first post of the day.  If you are looking for my NND release week posts just scroll up and down.  We have a super sketch for you this week from Freshly Made Sketches and I love the opportunities in this one.  No surprise that our sketch hostess, the amazing Narelle, has given us perfect layers to use.

I colored this sweet little bouquet of flowers using my Winsor and Newton paints.  Such a fun image from Gina K.  I love that there is a matching die set and the flowers seemed just right for the sketch.  I added a sentiment from the same set and found a little green piece of card stock to match the greens.  The base of the card is a note card from Lawn Fawn.  I love the size!  A little smaller so that the elements haning off the edge are ok since it will still fit in a standard envelope.

The inspiration from the team is awesome today!  Hope you will be able to join us!  Don’t forget to check out my Newton’s Nook Designs previews this week too.  You have a chance to win the sets just by commenting!  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #322

Freshly Made Sketches #322 published on 7 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #322

FMS322 by Jen Timko | Hearts and Flowers Stamps and Dies by Gina K Designs, Watercolors by Daniel SmithHappy middle of the week to you!  I have a real treat of a sketch to share with you today from Freshly Made Sketches.  The lovely Cécile is our hostess this week.  Elle est merveilleuse et si créative.  Her basic sketch leaves so much room for interpretation…you are sure to love it too!

I thought it would be fun to create a “spotlight” style card.  I chose this beautiful flower image from Gina K Designs.  Using my handy dandy Misti, it is super easy to line up the image on the watercolor panel and the vellum.  I stacked the two layers where I wanted them, place the magnet, and stamped (using Versafine Onyx Black).  Then I pulled up the watercolor paper and stamped again on the vellum layer.  I heat embossed on the vellum using clear embossing powder.  So fast, and no stress on how to get the layers aligned.  I colored the flower using my “Debby’s Palette” of Daniel Smith Watercolors.  I attached the watercolor layer to the vellum (I recommend a liquid glue like Multi Medium Matte or a strong tape runner like SU’s Fast Fuse).  The sentiment comes from the same Gina K set.  So awesome how the word image is cut with a little border using the dies.  The entire image layer was popped up using double sided adhesive foam from Newton’s Nook.  This foam is just the BEST!!

I hope that you enjoy this card and will join us this week at FMS.  We love seeing what you create!  Make sure you go check out the work from the design team.  You know it is fabulous!!  Back tomorrow with a fun hop.  Until then, have a great day!

Freshly Made Sketches #321

Freshly Made Sketches #321 published on 9 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #321

FMS321 by Jen Timko | Hearts & Flowers StampTV Kit by Gina K. Designs, Gina K. InkHappy Wednesday to you!  I get to share the latest Freshly Made Sketches challenge with you and I’m in love with this one.  The amazing Jen Brum is our sketch hostess and she has a really fresh and creative challenge for us this week.  And shockingly, I mostly just stuck to the simple directions, haha!

Back in December I was lucky enough to be one of the winners of a prize from the Coffee Lovers Blog Hop.  I won a gift card from Gina K. Designs!!  I resisted using it right away (wow, was that hard!!) but held onto it to find just the right thing.  And the right thing I found!  I just ordered the Hearts and Flowers StampTV Kit and it arrived last week.  Needless to say, it called out to be used on this sketch!

I stamped the flower insides first in Versafine Onyx Black ink and then positioned the flowers to layer on top.  After inking with Gina K’s Dye Inks, I spritzed before I stamped to create an easy watercolor feel.  I let the flowers dry and the hand painted the banner using the Blue Lagoon Ink by Gina K.  After the banner was dry, I added a sentiment from the stamp sets.  To add a little more texture, I splattered on some black ink and added some black rhinestones.  The watercolor panel is cut using a stitched rectangle.  I cut yellow base to match the card size.  No border on the front but a pop of color when you open the card.  Somehow this is really appealing to me lately…a way to have the clean front but still have an extra surprise.

Well, off to see all the marvelous creations from the team!!  This is a sketch that can be perfect with whatever little shapes you want to use.  Hope you have fun with it and looking forward to seeing you in the gallery!!  Thanks for stopping in!
