Freshly Made Sketches #432

Freshly Made Sketches #432 published on 8 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #432

Three posts in a row! Don’t faint! It has been fun to be able to share different things with you and today I’m back to my standard Wednesday with Freshly Made Sketches. I am the sketch designer this week.

I started coloring these images over the weekend (and shared on Instagram) from the new Superhero Scrubs stamp set by Erin Lee Creative. Erin’s husband is one of these superheroes so the set is near and dear to her! I was really hoping that I could make them work for my sketch this week and I love how they turned out. I stamped them onto XPress-It Copic Coloring Paper. This paper is made just for Copic and it makes blending easy. I fussy cut them out and then went to work on the rest of the card. For the top, I decided to use the Tumbling Hearts Stencil from Newton’s Nook Designs for textured embossing. It is really easy with the right sandwich. I often say that stencils are a cost effective workhorse in your crafting and this is an example why. I stamped the bottom portion with a sentiment from the same stamp set. To add extra dimension, I glued the red card stock to the base and then popped up the white pieces. Red sequins seemed like a good addition so on they went.

The design team has created all kinds of wonderful takes on the sketch. What amazing talent they have! Hope you will join in and share with us too. Thanks for stopping by today. See you soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #427

This is the first of two posts today for me. Our latest sketch for Freshly Made Sketches is designed by the lovely Narelle Farrugia. Another beauty for sure! First though, a brief update. Like everyone else worldwide, I’m finding my world turning upside down. A week ago I was on my way to Amsterdam when the first travel ban went into place. Since then, my airline has been trying to adjust and adapt. As pilots we are conflicted. We understand the need for social distancing but we also know there are circumstances that require people to fly. We love bringing people together safely. My airline is suffering (like so many businesses) and we have no idea what will come next. I’m trying to focus on one day at a time, as I’m sure you are too. So, with that, crafting! I’m thankful I have this hobby for respite.

I had trouble focusing even with such an inspiring sketch so I went to what makes me happy. I started with a stamp from a company I love (Gina K Designs) and colored it with my favorite Copic colors. After some debate, I just kept the rest of the card white. The pretty circle behind the butterfly is from Pinkfresh Studios and the sentiment is from Tonic Studios. All the links are below.

Our design team has created marvelous works of inspiration. How lucky I am to work with such an extraordinary group of people! My friends, as always I am thankful for you all. While we all have some turbulent days ahead, I have faith in the kindness of people. I have confidence that we can find our best selves. Please be safe, stay home and know that I hold you in my prayers.

Make sure you come back for my second post and a fun announcement too!

One of the best days of the month is here! Crafty Friends day! My friends and I have a company focus this month on the fabulous Gina K. Designs and I’m so thrilled. Not only do I love her designs, but I have come to see that Gina herself is such a leader in the industry on how to succeed in business and still be amazingly kind and generous. Now THAT is something to celebrate for sure!

I chose the Tropical Blooms stamp set to work with since it remains a favorite of mine. Something about this image and the sentiments just simply works. I stamped the image onto watercolor paper with Versamark ink and then heat embossed with gold powder. The raised embossing helps contain the water and made this quick coloring even easier. I used coral and rose Daniel Smith watercolor paints to create a bit of variance in the petals. Then I played with a couple of greens and a bit of blue for the leaves. Nothing particularly fancy because I wanted the colors to remain pale on the flowers.

To help them pop a bit, I decided to blend on some green Distress Inks onto another watercolor paper layer. I started with Twisted Citron Oxide but it wasn’t the right shade. So I added some Peeled Paint regular Distress Ink over it to get it right. That is the beauty of these inks, they blend and mix and they are not overly persnickety. I cut the panel out with an old Pretty Pink Posh scalloped rectangle (it must be retired, I could not find it to link). I stamped on part of the sentiment and then used the die set for part too. All of the cut outs were popped up using my favorite Foam Squares by Gina K. Designs. For this I used white but they also have black ones that are great for those dark panels and images. Finally, after some playing around, I decided the base needed some ink too so I brushed Tattered Rose Oxide Ink onto it.

I continue to be so thrilled that companies are working with us to give you discounts for our hops. Shop with Gina K. Designs on Feb 20 – 22 and use the code CRAFTYFRIENDS20 at checkout to get a 20% Discount. Click the graphic above to get to her shop.

Now on to the rest of the hop. I’m thrilled to send you to the lovely and talented Amy Kolling. Here is the list in case you get lost along the way:

I hope you enjoy the hop as much as we do. Thanks so much for stopping in today!

Freshly Made Sketches Anniversary Celebration Week 2

Freshly Made Sketches Anniversary Celebration Week 2 published on 1 Comment on Freshly Made Sketches Anniversary Celebration Week 2

Welcome to the second week of our celebration of 400 sketches at Freshly Made Sketches. We are continuing with a look back at sketch #200. We did a big team celebration on this one with tons of prizes and it really was such fun. We chose a clean and basic sketch then and I admit I still love it!

I thought this was the perfect one to pull out the Alcohol Inks since it was easy to put the focus on a background. I used the Nature Walk pack of inks along with Gold Mixative (all from Tim Holtz/Ranger) and combined two of the colors. I was inspired by my friend Caly Person who created a pretty tile art piece using similar colors a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to try it. Worked beautifully!

With the gold mixed in, I thought it would be good to use some gold glitter paper with a sentiment die. This Hello die from Gina K Designs is so wonderful and has just the right flair to stand out against the background. I shadowed the glitter paper with black to help it pop a bit and put the whole thing on a black base, again to help it stand out.

I hope you like this card and the sketch this week. Come on over to help us celebrate! This is my first post of the day. Hope you’ll stop back in for my Picket Fence Studios August Release coming up later. Until then, thanks for sharing a few minutes of your time!

It is my turn to be up on the Picket Fence Studios blog today and I want to share my card here too. I have to confess that I am more and more in love with many of these PFS “Girls”. I have never been much for coloring people but these images really do make me want to learn more about skin color, hair color and honing my coloring skills. They are perfect for trying new things too.

This gal is BFF Kate and she is particularly stylish, don’t you think?! I gave her a wardrobe of neutrals but decided she needed a statement bag. What better than orange for that? Once she was colored, I wanted to add some splatters but did not want them on the image. So I cut out some scrap paper with the coordinating die and laid it over the colored image. Then I could splatter away without putting it where I didn’t want paint.

I was searching for sentiments that seemed right and stumbled across this one in the You’ve Got This set. I love it for Kate! Hope you have some time to do some coloring and that you have a great weekend! Thanks for stopping in. See you soon!

The latest sketch from Freshly Made Sketches is one that I hope you will like. I am the sketch designer this week and I went for a straight-forward look. These are my favorite during the summer since I seem to have limited crafting time (kids home, lots of work, etc).

I could not wait to color this hummingbird from the Folk Hummingbird Stamp Set by Pinkfresh Studios. I had such fun coloring this with my Copic Markers! Then I continued the fun by creating this background with Hero Hues Ink Reactive Ink in Pool Party. It swirls on the Bristol paper like a dream and creates such great texture with just a little water. I found this sentiment in my stash and it is an Ellen Hutson set called Be Strong. I thought the Passionate Pink base was perfect to coordinate with my RV Copics on the bird.

I hope that you will enjoy playing along with us this week! Thanks for stopping in today. See you again soon!

Welcome to the Stamping Friends Trifecta Blog Hop with Picket Fence Studios, Gina K Designs and My Sweet Petunia!  This collaboration of artists and friends is sure to inspire and I’m thrilled to be a part of it!  I have two cards to share today!  See links at the bottom plus how to win one of three $50 gift certificates from our sponsors.

Birthday Wishes by Jen Timko | Elegant Asters Stamp Set and Dies by Gina K Designs, Wishes Stamp by Gina K Designs, Wishes Die by Gina K Designs, Copic coloring, FlowersFirst I have a card that uses the Elegant Asters Stamp Set by Gina K Designs.  I stamped the images using my Misti (because I ALWAYS stamp with my Misti) to ensure perfect inking.  Then I colored them using Copic Markers.  Since they are Asters, I focussed on purples but decided that adding in a yellow flower would be a nice contrast.  The butterfly was a must add to this card because, well, it is such a beautiful butterfly!!  I used the Wishes Die paired with the Wishes Mini Stamp Set for the sentiment.  And here is the kicker…that close cutting with perfect borders on the tiny sentiment??  Yeah, the My Sweet Petunia Cut Align!!!  Oh, I’m in LOVE!!  I added some splatters using black watercolor paint and Smooch Moonlight Accent Ink.

Sending Birthday Wishes by Jen Timko | Wishes Stamp set and Wishes Word Die by Gina K Designs, Cut Align by My Sweet Petunia, Life Changing Blender Brushes by Picket Fence StudiosFor my second card, I decided to focus on only the sentiment.  Same die and stamp but a totally different vibe!  I used Gina K Inks with my Life Changing Blender Brushes to add ink to some watercolor paper.  I added some water to soften the look and splattered with some water as well.  By using the blender brushes, I could control the color placement which made it work easier for me.  Again, I used the Cut Align to create the layered tiny sentiments.  The Blue Lagoon Card Stock was wonderful for a base to make the colors pop!

Next up is Jana Millen.

Below is the list of all the participants in today’s Trifecta Hop! You can refer to this at any time if you get lost on the links:

I’m so glad you stopped by today! Remember to comment all around the hop. Each store (Picket Fence Studios, Gina K Designs and My Sweet Petunia) will be giving a $50 gift certificate to their store (that is THREE chances for shopping!).

Wild Rose Birthday for Picket Fence Studios

Happy Friday!!  A quick share today of my card I created for the Picket Fence Studios blog today.  I tried something a bit new for me and did a whole big image using no line watercolor.  I find it intimidating but thought this gorgeous image was worth the risk.

Wild Rose Birthday by Jen Timko | Wild Rose Bouquet Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, I Wish We Could Hug Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, No Line WatercolorI stamped in an ink specially made for no line coloring called Fadeout Ink by Ink on 3.  It is super cool to use for this!  And then I just kept layering on color until I was happy.  It isn’t perfect.  I’d totally change things.  But I’m happy over all and so glad I tried it.  And I’ll keep on trying to perfect the technique over time.

Wild Rose Birthday by Jen Timko | Wild Rose Bouquet Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, I Wish We Could Hug Stamp Set by Picket Fence Studios, No Line WatercolorI have a few more details over there and I hope you’ll visit the company blog for lots of inspiration!  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #380

I’m so happy to share today’s sketch from Freshly Made Sketches with you!  This one is from new design team member Jacquie Southas and it is awesome!  So creative!

FMS380 by Jen Timko | Mondo Hydrangea by Ellen Hutson, Lovely Stamp Set by Ellen Hutson, Daniel Smith WatercolorsMy mind was spinning with ideas but I settle on flowers (because, well, spring) and what better flowers than the Mondo Hydrangea from Ellen Hutson?  I really love all the Mondo flowers but this one seems to be a set I come back to over and over.  I stamped one of the single flowers over and over (giving a couple of extras) and then broke out the watercolors.  I just played with some purple and green shading to see what would happen.  Loved it, went with it!

I created a panel with a light green watercolor wash that would go with my Jelly Bean Green base (Gina K Designs).  Then I added this awesome sentiment from the Lovely stamp set (Ellen Hutson).  This one seems tailor made for the flowers in the sketch.

I hope your week is going well.  I’ll be back on Friday with a share from my Picket Fence Studios blog post.  See you soon!
