Erin Lee Creative October Release Blog Hop

Erin Lee Creative October Release Blog Hop published on 16 Comments on Erin Lee Creative October Release Blog Hop

Today is the day! Finally! The October release for Erin Lee Creative is now live.

I could not resist showcasing the Marble Stencil. So many ways to use this! But I thought it looked like abstract art and I just brushed on colors, turning it 90 degrees for each color. Once done, I used the Hello Word Die along with the Oh Em Gee Stamp Set. This release is full of so much goodness. It includes the Winter Florals Stamp Set I featured a couple of weeks ago. You are sure to love it.

Now for a chance to win!

Prizes: 2 lucky commenters will win a $50 gift code to use in the ELC shop. Winners will be announced on the Monday, October 26 blog post. Comment on everyone’s blog or IG for a greater chance to win!

On with the hop! Up next is Lynnea Hollendonner and I know you’ll love her project. Here is the whole hop in case you get lost:

I hope you love all the inspiration and will go support Erin. She is an amazing human and her wonderful company makes me happy! Thanks for stopping in today!

Nineteen Years

Nineteen Years published on 11 Comments on Nineteen Years

Nineteen years ago today, my flying world changed forever. For those new to my blog, I am a pilot for United Airlines. And this year, the anniversary of 9/11 feels somehow closer than in previous years. I have struggled to write this post because of strong emotions this week. Focusing is harder.

When those planes were used as weapons and all those innocents were killed, we knew the world would never be the same. I recognized pretty quickly that the impact to my career would be substantial. Two years later, seventeen years ago, I was given a furlough notice. For over 3 years, I had no job at United. The devastation of 9/11 went deep. We know the stories of first responders and their health issues. I can say with clarity that many airline families struggled for years. More loss. It is hard not to draw parallels to where we are now. I wrote last year (Eighteen Years) about one of the most notable parts in the days following 9/11 was how the world worked together. That there was a feeling of unity and kindness and love that shone through the darkness.

The darkness has crept back in. We all see it. We all comment on it. But, in truth, what are we personally doing to combat it? This card reflects how I’m feeling, I think. For any of my United brethren, you’ll understand this choice. It reminds me of our Training Center location in Denver. The place where we were so excited as new hires. Where we have gone for our upgrades. And now, again, where we go on the march backwards.

But the sentiment, a quote from Maya Angelou, seems right for the times too. We are fighting a different battle than nineteen years ago. But maybe we can use some of the lessons we learned then. We are the best versions of ourselves when we work to help others. Light can come in different ways. Small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Just like the night sky. One star may not add much light. But all of the stars together are brilliant.

To quote myself, kindness and love are the only solution to the tragedy brought by hate. I hope that today, and on other days, we give each other a little grace and work to find the light. And maybe even be the light.

Happy September! Here’s to hoping that this month decides to play a little nicer than the others this year. What was that?! Yes! Look on the Bright Side! Like what I did there? I super excited to share this new kit from Erin Lee Creative today.

Don’t get me wrong. I love all the rainbows in this kit. Like, really love. But for me the stars of the show are the sentiments. This one practically demanded to be put on a card right away. I’ll be honest, I very much want us to start rising a bit more.

Using some beautiful colored glitter paper, I simply started cutting rainbows. And yes, I have the remnants that I can piece together into more cards like this with different color sequences. I stamped the sentiment in Versamark ink and heat embossed with gold embossing powder. At first I looked to add more color to this but, as usual, I opted for clean with the focus on the sparkle.

GIVEAWAY: We are giving away ONE KIT chosen from comments left across all of the blogs participating in this hop. Please leave a comment on any participating blog by Tuesday, September 8. The winner will be announced that week on the Erin Lee Creative Blog. The more you comment, the more chances to win!

Now on to the rest of the hop. I’m thrilled to send you off to my friend Cheryl Knutti. You will love her project! Here is the list if you get lost along the way.

Erin Lee Creative – Release and Blog Hop + Giveaway

We have been leading up to this through sneak peeks and today is August release day from Erin Lee Creative!

I’m going to be honest. I LOVE the look of hand-drawn watercolor. I have taken classes on how to do it but my efforts are always a bit lacking. So enter this Floral Wreath Stencil. I put a bit of Pixie Spray on the back of the stencil and laid it down on watercolor paper. Using the outline, I started laying on Daniel Smith watercolor paints.

All it really takes is patience. Start with light colors and just build as you go. Leave the stencil in place and let the layers dry. I just worked around on different colors while waiting. The stencil contains each design element and helps keep them from becoming a “blob” as you add color…usually my biggest flaw. Once you get the colors like you want, just remove the stencil and all evidence that you didn’t just magically freehand this is gone. To finish, all I wanted was a simple sentiment. I chose one from another new release set called Fall Critters. I chose a gray ink and love how this has a handwritten look to match the coloring.

Prizes: We are giving away three $25 gift certificates to three lucky winners chosen from comments left across all of the blogs participating in this hop. Please leave a comment on any participating blog by Monday, August 24. Three winners will be announced that week on the Erin Lee Creative Blog. The more you comment, the more chances to win!

Now on to the rest of the hop! I’m thrilled to send you off to visit the wonderful Michelle McDaniel. Here is the entire team if you get lost along the way.

Freshly Made Sketches #448

I’m super excited to share today’s card with you. Of course it all started with a great sketch from Freshly Made Sketches. So many do! This week’s sketch designer is my dear friend Jen Brum and I love all the potential with this one.

I pulled out a beautiful background stamp from Erin Lee Creative called Sketched Floral Background. It is so wonderful! Even without coloring it is gorgeous. Emboss it, watercolor it and for me, Copic color it. I chose my R80s (R81, R83, R85, R89) for the flowers and G20s (G20, G21, G24, G28) for the greenery. It is a joy to color! Once the panel was colored, I debated a few ways to complete the sketch. I finally decided that vellum was the answer. The sentiment is a bit of a sneak peek of an upcoming release from Erin Lee Creative. Couldn’t resist using it!

I hope you will enjoy this sketch as much as I did. Make sure you go over and see the inspiration from the team. Beautiful cards! Thanks for stopping in today. See you tomorrow with a card for SugarPea Designs.

Retro Tree

Retro Tree published on 3 Comments on Retro Tree

The amazing Peace, Love and Happiness Kit from Erin Lee Creative has been so fun for creating 70s vibed cards. But along came my oldest child while I was creating one day and he took one look at the Retro Swirls stamp set and said, hey that would make a cool tree. Yes, yes it would.

So that is exactly what I did. I stamped it in Versamark Ink and then heat embossed with white embossing power on watercolor paper. I pulled out some Distress Ink and just added layers of yellows, greens and a bit of brown util I was happy with it. And added some splatters too, of course.

Using more watercolor paper, I cut out the sentiment with the Big Hello Love Die and colored it with some of the same ink. I love how artsy I feel when creating a project like this and it really is a joy to do! I hope you’ll be inspired to give it a go. Thanks for stopping in today!

Peace, Love and Happiness

Needing something to brighten your day? I think I might have just what you need. I’m thrilled to share this peek of Erin Lee Creative‘s newest kit called Peace, Love and Happiness.

I chose this smiley face image (and its coordinating die) as the first thing to color. I mean really, who could resist it?! I kept the coloring bold and without shading. My oldest told me it looked just like a retro sticker…win!! I thought this stencil (one of two in the kit) would help me create the perfect background. I chose a coordinating pink ink and brushed it on to a white panel and then cut it down with wonky angles. The same color was sponged onto the base. Then I added one of the sentiments using Versafine Clair.

I have so many ideas with the elements of this kits. Expect more over the next few day! And YOU can get this tomorrow, July 1st at Midnight Central time. If you want to shop with me, I now have an affiliate link with Erin Lee Creative. Happy shopping!

Freshly Made Sketches #439

Today we have another fun sketch from Freshly Made Sketches. Our designer this week is the queen of florals, the lovely Narelle.

I decided to use another new product from Erin Lee Creative, the Tiny Card + Envelope Die. Isn’t this just adorable?! I want to make all the envelopes in all the colors! I thought the sentiment from Let’s Make Cards were perfect to pair with the die. I embossed the background using the Wonky Plaid Stencil.

I think you will have lots of fun with these square layers. And be ready, Erin Lee Creative’s new release goes live on June 12th. Thanks for stopping in today!! See you soon.

We’re In This Together

We’re In This Together published on No Comments on We’re In This Together

There are times when stamp companies come out with a release that is perfect for the moment. And you have to know that these companies work months before a release to design and manufacture so it generally isn’t something they just put together last second. So I will say that I’m thrilled that my friend Erin from Erin Lee Creative has done it again.

She has a new release coming out on June 12th and this image is a part of a set called Here For You. The sentiment is from the same set. I stamped the hands three times using my Misti for spacing and then colored away. It took a few days of coloring and taking my time to work on skin tones. Which is a wonderful thing to do when one likes to Copic color. I also realized that I need a few more colors to get the colors of the human rainbow right.

I generally avoid discussions of any political nature here but this moment in time is bigger than just “politics”. It is a time of learning and listening. It is also a time to realize that we have to figure this out. Really. We need to understand at our core that humans of all colors, shapes, sizes, genders and any other defining characteristic have value and worth. We have the ability to fix these problems. Together.

I hope you will be inspired by this card and by Erin’s release. Keep your eyes out for more details. I’ll be sharing them here and on social media. Until tomorrow, I hope you are safe and healthy. Thanks for stopping in!

Freshly Made Sketches #438

We have a beautiful new sketch today from Freshly Made Sketches. It is designed by the lovely and talented Karren Johnson.

I chose this fabulous new image from Erin Lee Creative as the focal point. It is from the Tropical Leaves stamp set and will be available on June 12th as part of her new release. I colored with Copic and then cut it out with an oval die. I realized that one of the sentiments in the set fit perfectly so I added it on the oval. I did some scoring to complete the sketch.

Thank you for stopping in today. I hope you are safe and well. See you soon!
