Jen Timko - FMS234 - FriendsHope your week has been moving along well so far!  I finally got into my craft room yesterday (after way too many days away) and got right to work on this sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  I am the hostess this week and I went with a sketch that leave open space to be filled with whatever you want.  I opted for this pretty flower from Altenew.

How is your crafty mojo when you have taken a big break from making stuff?  I have to admit that mine seems to be a little slow off the starting block.  So I went with my happy place and chose to watercolor.  This flower from Botanical Garden (Altenew) is so pretty, don’t you think?  I used my Zig Clean Color Pens to color it.  The flower was first stamped in Versamark and then heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I think it adds an elegant touch.  For the little sentiment banner, I pulled out a brand new stamp that I got from Skipping Stones Design called Healing Wings.  I’ll be doing more with sets from this company in the upcoming weeks so stay tuned for more on that.  I just thought this sentiment was perfect!  Actually, I can see me using this sentiment A LOT!!!  I added a strip of gold DSP down the side and put the card on a Night of Navy base.Jen Timko - FMS234 - Friends bring colorYou can see the gold a bit better in this flat picture…it really adds a touch of elegance to an otherwise simple design.  I hope that you enjoy this sketch.  The team has done their usual amazing work and their interpretations are sure to inspire!

FMS232 - Coral BeautyHappy middle of the week to you!  I hope your week is going well.  As with most Wednesdays, I’m here with your mid-week inspiration from Freshly Made Sketches.  Our own amazingly talented queen of layers, Narelle Farrugia, has created this super cool sketch with layered rectangles.  So many ways to go with this!

I thought I would try a collage style background using this flower from Beautiful Day by Altenew.  It remains one of my favorite stamp sets!  I recently ordered some of Altenew’s inks and I pulled out Coral Berry for this card.  Isn’t it the most gorgeous pink?!  I stamped the solid image all over some Thick Whisper White Card Stock (SU) using that ink and then stamped the line image in Versafine Onyx Black ink randomly to fill in spaces.  I used the sentiment from the set and stamped it with the Versafine too, then layered the sentiment and the image panel onto Basic Black layers.  I added a little bit of black thread and some sequins as a finishing touch.

FMS Final 232-001This kind of card is super easy to create and you can use a variety of stamp sets to get this effect.  I’m really happy with how this came out and want to try some other sets and colors!  Ok….you know the drill.  Go check out the awesome projects from the rest of the team…you’ll be happy you did!

So glad you stopped in today.  I hope you like this one!  Back soon with another card….see you then!

Botanical Rose

Botanical Rose published on 2 Comments on Botanical Rose

Jen Timko - Botanical RoseI really wanted to use this title on the post:  “In which I say happy anniversary to Altenew, show what I have learned about Chameleon pens, and profess undying thanks to Lydia”  (format courtesy of Lydia)  I think we can agree that would have been a bit cumbersome.  But it is really what this post is about!

First of all, I wanted to share this card that is inspired by the 2nd Anniversary of Altenew.  This company is so fabulous and the inspiration they have provided through beautiful designs and an amazing design team are a stand out in the industry!  This set, Botanical Blooms, is pretty new and I’m completely enamored with it.  Such pretty, pretty images!  I wanted to make a clean card (yeah….I know, I always do) that showed off the lovely details in these stamps.  I stamped them with Momento Tuxedo Black ink and added a sentiment from Watercolor Wishes (SU) stamped in Versafine Black Ink.

Then I get to part two of my post….Chameleon Pens.  These are a unique way to color using alcohol pens that have all the shading care of one pen.  The dear Ilina Crouse sent me the Pastel Tones set and that is all I have used for coloring here.  In fact, I only used three of them (Y03-Warm Sunset, CG8-Cool Gray, and PK3-Bubble Gum).  I am getting better at shading and timing the infusions and they are really fun to use.  This is what I was working on the other day when a friend came over to visit….she colored some pretty flowers too!  I added a few sequins that matched (two from Pretty Pink Posh and one from SU) and added a border of a pretty watercolor DSP (retired SU).

Finally, and this is big.  I need to profess my thanks to the one-of-a-kind Lydia.  I have struggled pretty much forever in getting a decent picture of a primarily white card.  As in, I take 25 pictures all over my house, edit the pictures, hate the pictures, take 25 more pictures…..   Well, you get the point.  So when Lydia posted about a new light box she got and how it changed her world, well, I had to run right out to get one.  I caution you that following Lydia inspires that result.  Being her friend can be expensive because she is always right.  When she says you have to have it, you do.  Just accept it and move forward.  I had planned to post this card yesterday but then I found out my Foldio 2 was coming and I wanted to wait to give it a good test.  Let me tell you what happened.  I set it up, took one (yes, ONE) picture with my phone (YES, MY PHONE!!!!!!) and this is the one I took.  I cropped it, lightened it just a little and done.  Threw on the watermark and I’m pretty sure I squealed loud enough for the neighbors to be concerned.  Now I can spend more time making things.  I’m so happy!!

So that is it for today.  Pretty much one big thank you post to Altenew, Ilina and Lydia.  Wow, I’m lucky to be a stamper!  Hope your weekend is fabulous!  See you soon!

PP287, CAS - Botanical cherry blossomSo I told you that I was supposed to head to Denver on Wednesday….well, the weather had other plans and crazy enough, I ended up back at home for another night (YAY!!!).  Well I had a little bit of time to play (very little) in the morning before heading back into the fray and I just had to do a little bit of coloring on a new stamp set.  This Botanical Garden set from Altenew is just gorgeous and I wanted to color it to look like my cherry tree which is just starting to bloom.Cherry BlossomsI really wanted to use my new Chameleon Markers that were sent to me by the fabulous Ilina Crouse.  She is a master with these and I am determined to learn to use them well.  I only used the pink on for today and the way they blend seamlessly is really cool.  Again, I was working quick but I look forward to more time with them.  I added some Copics markers for the green.  The sentiment comes from another set I just got called Butterfly Kisses (Mama Elephant) and I’m in love with the fonts and sentiment choices on this one!    I played along with The Paper Players Celebrate Spring theme and with Addicted to CAS #84 code word Delicate.  PP287 ColorsOk, I’m really out on my trip now and hoping for some flyer friendly weather tomorrow.  Today….not so much.  Thanks so much for stopping in today!  See you soon.

Jen Timko - FMS226 - Thank YouHappy Wednesday everyone!  I’m so thrilled to share this awesome sketch from the lovely Rita.  I was so grateful for this one since my card came together really fast!!

I had colored this flower a few weeks ago when my mom was visiting.  We were playing with Zig Clean Color Markers and Shimmery White card stock and this flower was a natural to color.  You can’t see it in the picture but the flower has a lovely shimmer to it that makes it even prettier in person.  I stamped some Crumb Cake card stock using the Dots for Days stamp and Momento Black.  The sentiment is from the February Paper Pumpkin kit (I’m obsessed with this font and the sentiments).

FMS Final 226-001I hope you enjoy playing along this week!  I can’t wait for you to see all the team has created.  And I know I’ll be loving the gallery this week too.  Thanks for stopping in!  See you soon!

FMS224 - Watercolor FlowersAs I continue on my quest to color as much as possible for Kathy Racoosin’s 30 Day Coloring Challenge, I realized I needed to pack a little smarter on some of my trips.  So last week I pre-stamped some images and picked some of my Zig Clean Color Markers to bring along to work on during layovers.  I posted some of what I did on Instagram and you may have seen part of this image there.  I had hoped it would work for the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge this week and it totally did!  I am the sketch hostess this week and the big open panel lends itself to all kinds of fun things (I hope!).

I stamped these pretty images from Altenew’s Beautiful Day with WPlus9 Black Dye Ink and used a little bit of masking to cluster the flowers.  The zigs did all the work on the coloring.  I love how easy it is to create shading with only a couple of markers!  I added the little piece of DSP in a color similar to the flower centers and then pulled out some sequins from the Watercolor Wishes kit that complement the colors.  The Soft Sky base is pretty with the light blue of the little flowers.

Our team has its normal amazing variety so make sure you go tell the gals how much you love their work!  Ok…back to work!  But I did bring some more coloring along.  I’ll post on Instagram if I get some time on this trip to play!  Until next time, hope you have a great week!

Gray Flower Copic Coloring Tutorial

Gray Flower Copic Coloring Tutorial published on 1 Comment on Gray Flower Copic Coloring Tutorial

I had a few requests to show you how I created the gray flower from my post a few days ago with this card.

You're in my ThoughtsSo I created a quick video to show you the basics of my Copic coloring.  I will apologize now….some of the video quality is not what I would want but I was trying out creating videos with my IPhone for the first time and clearly have some things to work out.  In any case, you can see the fundamentals and I hope you will give this a try!!

You’re in my Thoughts

You’re in my Thoughts published on 5 Comments on You’re in my Thoughts

You're in my ThoughtsI hope your weekend is going well!  We are finally digging out of all the snow and life is returning to normal.  Both boys may even go to school tomorrow!  Yay!!  My oldest missed a whole week.  Eek!  I know a lot of people make fun of this area and how it handles snow but the reality is that we have equipment that is good for regular little snows and NOT for gigantic storms like Snowzilla.  So it takes a bit.  But I did have a great time with sledding along with all the shoveling.  Over all, a mom win for time spent with the boys!

Meanwhile, back at the stamp table, I was able to finally put together something that I worked on over a week ago.  I showed a peek of the coloring in progress on my Instagram page (link is over in my sidebar if you want to follow).  I was practicing my no-line coloring using just grays.  In this case, Copic Toner Grays T0, T2 and T5.  The flower is from Altenew’s Beautiful Day.  I stamped in SU Smoky Slate ink and then did the coloring.  I added a little white to the center with a White Gel Pen.  The sentiment is from Watercolor Wishes and also stamped in Smoky Slate.  I cut the white layer with a Lil’ Inkers Border Builders Die and added a piece of Basic Grey Vivienne DSP underneath.  Some Sparkling Clear Sequins from Pretty Pink Posh were a nice finishing touch.  You can get most of these products all in one place at Simon Says Stamp.

wednesdayblog-logoI hope you enjoy this one.  I had fun practicing my coloring.  Even more fun when it turns into something worth showing (not everything does but the practice is still worth it!).  Thought I’d add this in on the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge this week – the theme is Anything Goes.  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon!

FMS221 - Thank YouQuick post today.  I just got back from a long day of sledding. Taking advantage of the snow while we have it!  The neighborhood sports complex has some fabulous hills that are simply crazy for the boys!  Good stuff.  Speaking of good stuff, Freshly Made Sketches has an awesome one for you this week courtesy of the wonderful Karren Johnson.  I just love it.

Had no stamping time this week due to the snow madness here.  I was able to put this together quickly yesterday.  I tried a technique I had seen on a card made by Tasnim over at Altenew to create the flower.  Her’s, admittedly, is far more spectacular but I think this creates a nice effect.  I simply used Distress Ink in Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry and Hickory Smoke on wet watercolor paper and then added more water with my Zig Water Pen to move ink a little more.  The sentiment comes from Another Thank You stamped in Basic Gray ink (SU).  Despite using my Misti to overstamp multiple times, the sentiment just would not stamp completely clean.  Ah well….that is how it goes sometimes.  I cut the panel out with my Stitched Rectangles Die (SSS) and put the image panel on a Smoky Slate base.

Hope you have a fun time with the sketch this week!  So much room for fun and interpretation!

FMS220 - Sending Hugs

Do you hear the panic in my typing??!!!!  The snow is coming, the snow is coming!!!  And apparently lots of it to Northern Virginia.  So I did what any reasonable stamper would do…..I created a happy spring card with not a snowflake in sight!  Over at Freshly Made Sketches this week we have an awesomely fun one for you to try.  It comes courtesy of the lovely Jen Brum who has clearly decided to embrace her fears as a new year’s resolution.  She notoriously does not like it when we put circles in the sketch and then she went and created this one!  Bravest woman I know, haha!

I played around with the idea of flowers and was looking through the stash when I saw this little floral spray in my Beautiful Day stamp from Altenew.  I thought it would be perfect to use in the corner and I just love how this turned out.  Using WPlus9 Black Dye Ink, I stamped the image onto Shimmery White Paper (SU) then added a couple more little flowers from the set to fill out gaps.  With my Zig Water Pen, I colored using Tim Holtz Distress Inks.  Easy and so pretty!  Then I lined up the sentiment on my Misti and stamped in the WPlus9 Ink again.  I stamped another few flowers inside the card (you can see them peeking out) and colored them up to.  Fast and oh so happy!

FMS Final 220-001I hope you enjoy this one as much as I liked making it.  Now hop right on over to the challenge and let’s see what you make of the circles!

Thanks so much for stopping in today.  Back on Friday with a fun Valentine card!  See you then!
