FMS327 by Jen Timko | In Bloom Julie's Roses Stamp by Winnie and Walter, Into the Woods Stamp by Winnie and WalterHow is it already Wednesday again?  My last week has been a bit of a whirlwind and I’ll share more about that later in this post.  First, though, let’s talk about Freshly Made Sketches.  Our sketch designer this week is my friend Jen Mitchell.  She always makes the most lovely clean cards and her style is fantastic!  She gave us a cool angled panel to use and I love the options with it.

I started with this amazing wood grain stamp from Winnie and Walter called Into the Woods.  Isn’t it fantastic?!  Putting it on the angle seemed to just work well and I like not having to add a layer.  Julie’s Roses (another Winnie and Walter set) gave me this lovely flower and the sentiment.  The image looks colored but I actually just stamped using my Misti with the fill-in stamp from the set.  I started with Altenew’s Citrus Burst ink and then layered on some Maple Yellow on the edges by re-stamping.  The leaves are stamped the same way with Altenew’s Frayed Leaf and Forest Glades inks.  I fussy cut the images and added some sequins for a little extra touch.

Now for a little more about me.  Last Wednesday, I left on the most wonderful adventure.  I was invited to attend a retreat at the Whatever Craft House.  Just go look at that incredible house….Yes, click now.  I’ll wait.  Stamping Away March 2018 was truly a retreat full of inspiration and laughter.  I met new friends and some of my stamping idols.  All of them were so kind and welcoming.  The retreat actually has sponsors that are incredibly generous and I can promise you’ll be seeing the products I received over the next weeks and months (yes, there really is that much!).  I want to share one picture of me from the house.  These colored stairs are a bit iconic to the house and I remembered to get a photo on the last day.  Yes, I was a bit tired (hard to sleep when there is that much stamping to do!) but really happy.

As I sat down to create the card for today, I admit that my creative brain was a bit scattered.  So I chose the Winnie and Walter stamps because Shay (who IS Winnie and Walter) was at the retreat.  And she is such a fun person!  I so enjoyed meeting her and watching her create with her own images…talk about insight into design.  She has a crazy amount of talent but is so down to earth.  And she was insanely generous to all of us at the retreat!

I hope that you love this card and that you’ll have time to play along with our sketch.  Also, we have a new guest designer for the month of March.  Make sure you stop by to say hi to Claire Apostoloff.  Thank you so much for stopping in today. I hope you have a wonderful crafty day!

Newton’s Nook Designs Holiday Release – Stylish Stockings and Reindeer Roll Call

Newton’s Nook Designs Holiday Release – Stylish Stockings and Reindeer Roll Call published on 34 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs Holiday Release – Stylish Stockings and Reindeer Roll Call

Happy day 3 of the Holiday Release from Newton’s Nook Designs.  And yes, it is also Freshly Made Sketches day.  So I combined two of my favorite things into one post!  This holiday release from Newton’s Nook is going to continue to amazing you as, yet again, we have TWO stamps to share with you.

FMS309 by Jen Timko | Stylish Stockings Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Be Merry DSP by Stampin' UpI am going to start with the Stylish Stockings Stamp Set and the coordinating dies since I used it with the Freshly Made Sketches challenge this week.  I love the sweet designs on these little stockings and the adorable stitched details for them.  I stamped them using Altenew’s Ruby Red ink and just look at how those tiny details show perfectly.  All I had to do was stamp the sentiment on a stitched circle and add some festive patterned paper.  Stamps like this make your holiday cards easy to reproduce and such fun to make!

Reindeer Chalk Board by Jen Timko | Reindeer Roll Call Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Corrugated Paper, Chalk BoardNext up is Reindeer Roll Call.  What an awesome idea this stamp is!!  As soon as I saw it, I thought chalk board card so I just had to give it a try.  I stamped using Versamark ink on a textured black card stock and then heat embossed with WOW Opaque Bright White Embossing Powder.  I added the little snowflakes and one of the reindeer from the stamp set to accent the names and embossed them too.  I cut the panel out with a cross-stitched rectangle die and added a few rhinestones that I colored with a red Copic marker.  To give it that chalk board look, I tapped on a little bit of white craft ink with a sponge.  Then, I cut out some Corrugated Kraft card stock using a cross-stitched rectangle and added this great 7/8″ Striped Ribbon from Stampin’ Up as an accent.  You’ll notice a theme with these card today….makable!  Because when it comes to holiday cards, I generally like the make a few of each style!

I just know you are going to love the projects from the entire Newton’s Nook team today and don’t forget to take a look at all the inspiration at Freshly Made Sketches too!  Of course, the post isn’t complete without a chance to win!

All the pretty colors — of new ink published on 1 Comment on All the pretty colors — of new ink

Congrats by Jen Timko | Dotty Angles Stamp Set by Stampin' Up, Clearsnap Petal Point InkI get to share some projects I have been holding on to that are part of a product review for Splitcoaststampers.  Many of you know my long standing love of “Splitcoast” because it is always full of creative inspiration, techniques, tutorials and reviews.  I was asked to take a look at some Clearsnap Petal Point Pigment Inks that are being released in two new color groupings (Sunset and Boardwalk).  Please hop right over to see my thoughts and the analyses of some amazing stampers (and their projects!) – Product Review.  If you want to see the whole gallery of work with these inks, CLICK HERE.

In my review, I mention how I was playing with the ink and trying new things.  I reference a card on kraft (Crumb Cake) card stock and an ombré card.  I wanted to share those here too since I had not put them on my blog yet.  I love the pretty Sunset color family for my Congrats card, don’t you?!  The strong colors from the pigment ink are fabulous on this background stamp!Just for You by Jen Timko | Beautiful Day Stamp by Altenew, Clearsnap Petal Point InkIn my flower card I was able to use the Boardwalk ink to get a gorgeous look on my Crumb Cake paper.  I love how the Dune color is a match and yet shows up beautifully with the line image flower.  While you are over at  Splitcoast, take some time to look around and appreciate all the resources.  You’ll be glad you did!  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #288

Freshly Made Sketches #288 published on 7 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #288

FMS288 by Jen Timko | Beautiful Day Stamp by Altenew, sentiment from Paper Pumpkin by Stampin' Up, Zig Clean Color Markers, WatercolorI hope you are having a great week!  I’m so happy to share the latest sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  Our sketch hostess this week is one seriously amazing stamper!  Jen Mitchell has created a gorgeous sketch for us and I’m totally in love with it!

I tried to use a different color palette than I have been playing with lately and started first with this go-to flower from Altenew’s Beautiful Day stamp set.  I stamped using Versafine ink and then colored using Zig Clean Color Markers.  Just two colors was all it took to get pretty variation on the petals.  I fussy cut it out and then added it to this ivory base to match the sketch.  I used the Softly Falling embossing folder to give dimension to the top panel and added a Paper Pumpkin sentiment on the bottom later.  I then added a Basic Pearl (colored with a Sharpie) and some Black Metallic Thread to the flower.

This sketch has infinite potential and I think I may use it again soon!  Love, love it!  I hope you will too.  So glad you stopped in for today’s card.  I’ll be back tomorrow with a look at a new product and I can’t wait to share.  Until then, have a great day!!

Freshly Made Sketches #284

Freshly Made Sketches #284 published on 7 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #284

FMS284 by Jen Timko | Botanical Garden Stamp by Altenew, Paper Pumpkin by Stampin' Up Sentiment, Woodgrain Embossing Folder by Stampin' Up, Petal Point Pigment Ink by ClearsnapI hope you are having a great week!  I am slowly coming back to reality after a week vacation.  Our family took a wonderful trip to San Diego last week…what a treat!  The boys both had some real favorites events.  Oldest loved seeing the USS Midway and all the airplanes while the youngest enjoyed both the zoo and Sea World.  I love a vacation that can allow everyone to see something that feeds their interests!

So I finally got back into the craft room yesterday and that always seems to be a slow process for me.  Fortunately, Karren created a fabulous (and really workable) sketch for Freshly Made Sketches that made it a bit easier.  I knew I wanted to use these pretty flowers from Altenew (Botanical Garden) and also pulled inspiration from Altenew’s April Inspiration Challenge.  I loved the blue and the yellow and also the bokeh styling of their photo.

For my flowers, I wanted to try a new to me technique.  I have some sneak peek Petal Point inks from Clearsnap that are pigment inks so I tried this technique from Jennifer McGuire.  It is a little bit messy but I agree with Jennifer that using your fingers to apply ink is easy to control.  It also allowed me to have a bit of a splattered look on the flowers per the inspiration.Jen Timko | Botanical Garden by Altenew, Petal Point Pigment Ink by Clearsnap

The fun part with pigment ink is that it stays stickier for a little longer and that allows time to be able to come back and emboss the whole image.  The effect gives a bit of shine and depth to the card that is hard to capture in a picture.  For my center panel of the sketch,  I cut a piece of Thick Whisper White and embossed it with the Woodgrain Embossing Folder (SU).  It adds a subtle texture without pulling attention from the flowers.

I hope you are off to a great week.  I’m back to stamping today and a bit of gardening too.  I love this time of year in Virginia and my youngest is still off this week for break.  We are getting the gardens all ready for planting our vegetables and re-mulching to get things tidy after the winter.  I’m lucky he is such a great helper!  Thanks for stopping in today.  See you soon! FMS280 by Jen Timko | Botanical Garden Stamp Set by Altenew, Healing Wings by Skipping Stones DesignEver see a sketch and know that whatever you make with it will be awesome?  That is how I felt the minute I saw this one from Freshly Made Sketches.  The incredible Linda Callahan created this beauty and the possibilities are endless!

I thought these gorgeous images from the Botanical Garden would be great for the sketch.  I stamped them onto Canson Watercolor Paper using Versafine Ink.  Then I colored using Winsor and Newton Watercolor Paints.  I just got these and was swatching them when I thought I should just break them in and see what happened.  I kind of love the possibilities!!  Once I was done coloring the images, I cut them out to see how they looked for the sketch.  I felt like they needed a little bit of a background so I added a little more color behind them before stamping the sentiment.  I love this one!!  And it is perfect for my friend that will receive this card.

Our design team has done their always excellent job this week and you will be so inspired.  I hope you will have as much fun with this sketch as I did.  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  See you soon!

FMS275 - Amazing by Jen Timko | Botanical Garden Stamp Set by Altenew, Zig Clean Color Markers, WatercoloringAs a programming note, if you are looking for day 2 of the Newton’s Nook February Release it will be up in a second post.  For this card, I’m working with another fantastic sketch for Freshly Made Sketches created by the queen of layers, Narelle.  The way she has layered this sketch speaks to how she always has the most lovely details.

When I saw the scallop, I immediately thought of this flower from Altenew’s Botanical Garden set.  I pulled out my Zig again and this time focused on Peacock Blue.  Love that blue!  I aded a little yellow in the center and combined greens for the leaves but generally some super quick coloring.  With the blue being so striking, I chose this pale background, Fog from Simon Says Stamp.  Using the scraps from where I colored the flower, I cut two banners and colored one with the green and left one plain.  Finally I added this little Paper Pumpkin sentiment and some Basic Pearls.  It was nice to stretch into a different set of colors this week and I think this sketch is going to be fun for everyone.

Back in just a few with today’s release card.  You will be “egg-cited” to see it!  Thanks for stopping in today.

FMS274 - Jen Timko | Beautiful Day Stamp by Altenew, Zig Clean Color MarkersSo on Saturday, I had the most lovely invitation to go to an event that was a “bring your own craft” kind of thing.  There were Stampin’ Up demos and customers along with some other company reps and friends.  These ladies get together each month to just make things all day.  I know what you are thinking and you are right!  It was awesome!  I could only go for a few hours but it is amazing how much that time is good for the soul.  Per my usual, I accomplished very little because I’m never sure what to pack (and I’m the slowest stamper).  But I did bring along this flower to color and some things that I might be able to use for this sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.  I have to say that I just love the creative possibilities that this week’s hostess, the lovely Jennifer Brum, has given us!

I only used two colors from my Zig Clean Color Pack (a bright pink and a yellow) to color this flower but I love how they work together and blend to create the orange.  With the strength of the flowers colors, I opted to use a neutral base so I chose Smoky Slate.  The sentiment is from the same Altenew set as the flower (Beautiful Day) and I stamped it in Versafine ink and the layered the white with some Melon Mambo.  I added some Daffodil ribbon that I have hoarded in my stash since it is so pretty with the flower.  I think I’ll be adding this sketch to my go-to group.  I see lots of ways to use it!

And yes, the team has definitely come up with some of them.  As always, they are amazing!  Well, lots of posts this week and I’m back to the stamp room to get ready for some more coming up soon.  Until then, I hope you have a great day!  As for the monthly gathering…I can’t wait to go back and this time actually finish some projects!  See you soon!

Freshly Made Sketches #273 published on 8 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #273

Jen Timko - FMS273 | Concord & 9th Layering Leaves Dies, Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Paper Pumpkin Sentiment (Stampin' Up)My favorite stamping day of the week is here!  Happy Wednesday to you!  I’m so excited to share this week’s sketch by coloring genius Karren Johnson.  Her split panel concept is so fun and can lead to so many great ideas!

So I’m hoping that I didn’t stretch too far from the sketch but I really tried to make my watercolor ombré layer into three distinctive sections.  I used the beautiful Tim Holtz Hickory Smoke Distress Ink to create the colors.  I started with a light wash and then went back and layered on more ink.  The heart is really one of the leaves from the Layering Leaves Die Set (Concord & 9th) and I just snipped the stem off to turn it into a heart.  I colored a scrap of watercolor paper with my Wine Red Zig pen and washed it out a bit with water.  Then I die cut with the leaf.  So pretty!  Finally, after some debate, I chose a sentiment.  You see…I need a birthday card for my dear husband and I think this might hit the right masculine note (well, at least it isn’t a flower, haha!).  I love that the Moon Rock ink from Altenew is a nice match to the distress ink on the panel with crisper stamping.  The sentiment itself is from the January Paper Pumpkin kit.  While the kit is an adorable Valentine’s 3-d set, the sentiments are going to be in your go-to list for a while.  I love this font and this says it all!

I know the gallery will be full of inspiration this week.  The design team has some amazing work already there for you to enjoy.  Hope to see your take on the sketch!  I’ll be back on Saturday with a fun hop that you are going to love.  See you then!

Jen Timko - FMS262Today is Freshly Made Sketches day.  Thank goodness.  Because I, for one, need something happy to occupy my time.  I feel certain there are others who share my thoughts.  The lovely Jennifer Brum is our sketch hostess.  I know you will love it as much as I did.

I will admit that things have been super busy here are I had this flower colored from a project last week.  Copics were the tool of choice for coloring this flower and it was such fun.  I had not used them for a bit and forgot how much I love them.  I added some Pop of Pink DSP with this cool chevron pattern and a sentiment from the same set as the flower, Altenew’s Beautiful Day.

So today is one of those days that we have a choice.  I am going to choose kindness.  I wish you a beautiful day!  See you soon!
