The Artisan Design Team’s March box of products is all about spring!  I admit it.  I have full on spring fever.  After last week’s beautiful projects, I can’t even wait to see what everyone has to show you this week.  If you have come over from amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  If you are starting here, just continue around using the next buttons until you get back to me.

AWW Mar - Vellum Petite Flowers

On Saturday I had the privilege of presenting at the Northern Virginia Stampin’ Up Style Regional Event.  This event was coordinated by Rose-Ellen Eastman with the assistance of Michelle Suit (both such amazing stampers!).  Over 50 Stampin’ Up demonstrators got together to share ideas and creativity.  Such a fun day!!  Events like this are another of the many reasons to be a Stampin’ Up demonstrator!  When Rose-Ellen asked me to be a presenter I have to admit that I got really nervous.  What to make?  I immediately decided that I wanted it to be a “makable wow”.  Meaning that it would have wow features but still had to be easy enough for new stampers to make.  While the product list is a little longer for this than I originally intended, the card is definitely one that can be made by any level of stamper.

Spring to me says soft colors and a soft look to cards.  Naturally Subtles colors and vellum came to mind.  I cut my base from Whisper White.  Then I cut a panel of Whisper White and one of White Vellum to exactly the same size.  They are 3-3/4″ x 5″.  I cut another panel out of White Vellum to 2″ x 4-3/4″ then set that one aside for a bit.  Using a left over scrap of White Vellum, I stamped the flower from Petite Petals five times using Versamark ink and then heat embossed with Whisper White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  I pulled the 2″ wide panel back out and scored, using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool, at 1/2″ and 4-1/4″.  Then I stamped the sentiment from Regarding Dahlias in Versamark ink and embossed with Whisper White Embossing Powder.  Now for the fun part!  Using my sponge dauber and Pool Party ink, I started applying ink to the back side of the flowers to create a pop of color.  I used the #1 setting on my Stampin’ Heat Tool (it is the low setting) to set the ink.  Since vellum is basically plastic, the ink just doesn’t absorb into it.  The heat allows the ink to dry faster so you can proceed on with the card without waiting (because I have no patience!).  Take the sponge dauber and apply ink to the back of the 2″ panel too.  Because it doesn’t dry quickly, you have time to apply the ink in a way that makes you happy.  You are going for a soft, watercolor-y look so don’t worry about really even application.  Use the heat tool on that panel too to help the ink dry when you are ready.

You have all the parts now, just how to put it together?  Concealing the adhesive is always the hardest part of using vellum for me.  I used quite a few Glue Dots for this one, all selectively placed.  Cut five pieces of Whisper White Baker’s Twine about 5″.  Attach the top of the twine to the vellum using Glue Dots (place the Glue Dots where you want the flowers to go).  Once you have all the stem tops on, punch out the flowers you stamped with the Petite Petals Punch and attach them on to the same Glue Dots you put down.  After they are all attached place three Glue Dots behind the vellum panel (on the back side of three flowers) and attach the vellum layer to the Whisper White layer of the same size.  Run your adhesive on the bottom of the back side of the Whisper White panel and secure the other ends of the stems behind the layer.  Now for the horizontal layer.  You scored the edges to help you wrap that panel around to the back of the design layer.  Using more Glue Dots, attach the panel securing from behind.  Take that whole panel and attach to the card base using Dimensionals.  Top off the flowers with Basic Pearls and you are done!  So soft and pretty, don’t you think?!  And no adhesive in sight!

AWW Mar - Razzleberry PetalsOh, and if you are not in the mood for Subtles?  How about a Brights version instead?  I made one in Rich Razzleberry to show as well!  (You can click on it to see it larger) Now can you see a whole pack of these made in pretty spring colors?  Yep…me too!  It is on my list to finish up!

I’ll be back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches and then later in the week with a set of cards I am using for a workshop this week.  More pretty spring things to show!

The Artisan Design Team’s March box of products is all about spring!  Thank goodness because I could use a little spring.  I can’t even wait to see what everyone has to show you this week.  If you have come over from amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  If you are starting here, just continue around using the next buttons until you get back to me.

AWW Mar - Spiral Flower Love

When Jeanna was designing this month’s hop buttons (cute, aren’t they?) she must have been inspired by some of the same things I was.  I just had to play with the Spiral Flower Die as soon as I got it and I love it!  I have seen a number of ways to use it and thought I should create one of my own.  I wanted a card with three flowers of different sizes but how to do that?  Pretty simple actually.  I made the largest flower with the full spiral from the die.  Then I cut a second and cut it into two pieces to create the other two flowers (see below).  To lighten up the card stock a little for easier rolling, I “sueded” the paper first.  Before cutting (trust me…I tried it after and it is much harder), take a piece of card stock and distress it with your bone folder or over a counter top edge.  By rolling one way and then the other, the paper will start to separate and you can pull the layers apart.  Then just cut with your Big Shot and the die.  I used Pink Pirouette Card Stock and paired it with Smoky Slate.  The little window is cut using the Apothecary Accents Framelits and then the layer was embossed with the Sale-a-bration Decorative Dots Embossing Folder.  The DSP in the window is from Watercolor Wonder DSP.  I cut some leaves out of Basic Gray card stock with the Secret Garden Framelits.  It was still missing something so I wanted to add a shabby bow.  But which color?  I decided on pink but there isn’t one….so I made it.  It is super easy.  Add a few drops of Rose Red Reinker to some water and drop in Very Vanilla Seam Binding.  Let soak for a bit and then let dry.  If the color isn’t strong enough you can re-soak or add a little more ink to the water.  This color happened on my first try and it is a perfect match.  YEA!  I tied the bow and attached it with hot glue (the flowers use the hot glue too).  The sentiment comes from the hostess set Express Yourself and I thought this would be pretty for a Mother’s Day card or a special birthday.  Finally the pearls.  The little flowers have Basic Pearls attached and for the larger one, I used a pearl topped straight pin that I clipped with wire cutters (hot glued down to the center).

AWW Mar - Small flower tutorial

You can see to the left how I cut my spiral.  It doesn’t have to be precise, just adjust the size as needed.  You see the bit of curl on them?  That is because I gently curled them with my Bone Folder (much like curling ribbon).  That helps them roll easier.

I’ll be back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches and then later in the week with more Leadership Display projects.  Sorry I missed the project on Monday.  Snow days are seriously getting in the way of my blogging time, lol!

Artisan Wednesday Wow – Hexagon Flower

The Artisan Design Team’s February box of products has been fantastic.  This is our last week using it but I know you have found lots of inspiration from the projects created by the team.  If you have come over from amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  If you are starting here, just continue around using the next buttons until you get back to me.

AWW Feb - Hexagon Flower

So I told you that you would see a lot of the Hexagon Hive Thinlit from me this month.  I wanted to show you its flexibility and the team has shown other amazing ways to use it too.  For today, I have another way to cut down “the hive” to create a new look.  First, I ran the Bermuda Bay Card Stock through the Big Shot (using waxed paper between the paper and the die make it release easily).  Once I had that, I flipped the thinlit 180 degree and lined it up with the existing cut hexagons.  This allowed for all the hexagons to be cut through for the shape I wanted.  It doesn’t necessarily line up over the whole thing but the center is your focus.  The just trim off the extra to get this shape.  I filled the hexagons with prints from the Kaleidescope DSP that were also punched out using the hive.  I glued this onto a base to add a little stability (just loosely hand cut out of a scrap).  The middle hexagon is up on a Dimensional.  I added some little flowers punched with the Boho Blossoms Punch using Crushed Curry, Strawberry Slush, and Bermuda Bay.  The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and the banner end was punched using the Hexagon Punch.  Basic Pearls add the centers to the flowers.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing my projects this month.  Up next week is a brand new box of products.  Hmmm, think spring!!

I’ll be back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches and then later in the week with more Leadership Display projects.

The Artisan Design Team’s February box of products is fantastic.  We are continuing to use some of the latest and greatest from the Occasions Catalog.  These are the projects you might have already seen on Stampin’ Up’s Facebook page.  If you have come over from amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  If you are starting here, just continue around using the next buttons until you get back to me.

Oh….and there is blog candy so read to the end!!!

Feb FB - Hello Sweet Friend

So I’m back to the Hexagon Hive.  I told you two weeks ago how much I love it and the team has been showing so many fun ways to use it.  I thought I would go literal with the hive on this one.  It is so easy to do too.  Just cut the Naturals Ivory Card Stock using the Thinlit and the snip off the edges and keep the part you want.  I sponged it with Soft Suede to give it a little extra dimension.  Then using the Thinlit again, cut a piece of Crushed Curry Card Stock and sponge a few of the hexagons and place them on the filled spaces of the hive base.  I attached it to a Naturals Ivory base card using Glue Dots placed under the filled hexagons and let the the edges stay unattached to add a little dimension.  Next for the bee.  This fellow is from Backyard Basics and I have to say the set holds a special place for me.  You see, the Artisan Design Team has two of the most wonderful women at the home office that help us.  Together, they gave each team member a choice of some Stampin’ Up product as a Christmas present and I chose this set.  I just got it when the February box came so I obviously had to use it right away.  Thank you Gwen and Chrissy for this awesome gift!!!    Ok..back to the bee.  I stamped him in Early Espresso and colored using my Blender Pen and using direct marker with Soft Suede and Crushed Curry inks. Then I cut him out by hand.  There is a framelit that goes with him but I wanted a really close cut so I just took my time and did it.  The sentiment is from Six-Sided Sampler and is a perfect fit, don’t you think??  A few Basic Pearls to finish this one off.

So what do you think?  I love to hear how you feel about this one and I can’t make it TOOO easy for the blog candy so here it is.  Leave me a comment before Sunday, Feb. 23rd at 6p Eastern and tell me what you love about the new shapes in the Occasions Catalog.  The hexagons, the triangles, the starbursts…all so amazing.  Let me know your favorite and why!  I’m giving away the stamp set Geometrical AND the new Triangle Punch that goes with it to a random commenter.  I’ll use a random number generator to choose but can only mail within the US.  Ok…that isn’t too hard is it?

I’ll be back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches and then later in the week with more Leadership Display projects.

The Artisan Design Team’s February box of products is fantastic.  Were you as wowed by last week’s projects as I was?  We are continuing to use some of the latest and greatest from the Occasions Catalog.  If you have come over from amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  If you are starting here, just continue around using the next buttons until you get back to me.

AWW Feb - Ampersand

So, the Ampersand Embossing Folder.  I know these little symbols are incredibly trendy (yea, Stampin’ Up!) but what to show you?  One of my favorite suites in the new Occasions Catalog is the Watercolor Wonder Suite.  The DSP (just got it and wow), the notecards (ditto) and the pretty stamps.  So that was my inspiration.  I took Watercolor Paper and cut a panel to emboss (4″ x 5-1/2″) and ran it through the Big Shot with the Ampersand Embossing Folder.  Then I grabbed Daffodil Delight and Pumpkin Pie Classic Ink Pads.  I squished the lids (that is the official term) and then opened the pads to get the ink from the inside of the lids.  Using my Aquapainter, I picked up the ink and started coloring.  Just let the ink run out and keep the colors a bit uneven and imperfect.  When I was happy with the coloring, I took some splotches from Gorgeous Grunge and inked first in Daffodil Delight and then touched on a little Pumpkin Pie.  I stamped off a little and then added the splotches randomly.  The whole panel was popped up on Dimensionals and put on a card base made of Watercolor Paper.

AWW Feb - Ampersand inside

So I told you yesterday that this would be a non-standard Valentine.  On the inside of the card, I chose the stamp from Perfect Pennants that has another ampersand in it.  Again I inked first with Daffodil Delight and the rolled on some Pumpkin Pie (always use the lightest color first).  I spritzed the inked stamp with water so that the stamped image would mimic the look of the front (I practiced a few times first to make sure I had it down – clean off the stamp before each reinking).

I think this will be my DH’s Valentine so shhhh….don’t tell him!  Making a whole card of Watercolor Paper is not for every day cards but perfect for special ones…he’s worth it!!

I’ll be back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches and then later in the week with more Leadership Display projects.

The Artisan Design Team’s February box of products is fantastic and I’m so happy to finally get to show you what I have been making with it.  We are continuing to use some of the latest and greatest from the Occasions Catalog.  If you have come over from amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  If you are starting here, just continue around using the next buttons until you get back to me.

AWW Feb - Bliss

I will tell you now that I am completely in love with the new Hexagon Hive Thinlit (expect to see more this month using it!).  There is so much to do with it but for today’s project I chose to use it as a stencil.  Using stencils is really popular right now and many of SU’s dies are great for creating those stencils.  I also pulled out the Gesso again…just like on my project for the SU blog last week.  This time I used it a bit more.  To create the tag, I started with a larger piece of Watercolor Paper and painted on a layer of Gesso.  Once dry, I used my Aquapainter to add in some ink, Smoky Slate.  Again after drying, I stamped on the flower from Petal Parade (SAB) in Rose Red ink and then pulled out a piece of card stock that had been cut using the Hexagon Hive Thinlit.  I placed it over the paper and stippled on more Gesso.  When everything was dry, I chose a section I liked, cut a 2″ strip then cut one end with the Angled Tag Topper Punch.  The sentiment from Quite the Pair was stamped in Smoky Slate.  Using the same stencil, I stippled more Gesso onto a Smoky Slate card base (4-1/2″ sq.).  I distressed a long piece (30″ or so) of Rose Red Seam Binding by spritzing it with water and then crumpling.  Once dry, I looped the ribbon and tied on a Vintage Faceted Button using thread and added a Basic Pearl to the top of the button.  I trimmed the extra ribbon and used the rest for the top of the tag, tying on an additional button.

I had a lot of fun making a bit of a mess with this one.  Gesso is something you just kind of have to play with and there are lots of tutorials on the web to show you different uses.  Just allow that everything you make will be unique and that imperfection is part of the look.

I’ll be back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches and then later in the week with more Leadership Display projects.

Artisan Wednesday Wow – Scalloped Tag Topper Box

I am so excited to show you the last project from the Artisan Design Team’s January box of products.  We are so thrilled to be sharing ideas using some of the latest and greatest from the Occasions Catalog.  These are the projects that were featured on Stampin’ Up’s Facebook Page.  If you have come over from amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  If you are starting here, just continue around using the next buttons until you get back to me.

Jan FB - Scalloped Tag Topper Box

When I got my Sale-a-bration flyer, one of the things that stuck out was the statement to use the cute DSP to make fun little boxes.  Well who am I to argue with a great idea?!  It seems that the rest of the team agrees since there have been some amazing boxes (with instructions) in the hops this month.  Mine is a modification of a gable box.  The idea has been around for a while and I just modified measurements to meet my needs.

Scalloped Tag Template 1

Start with a piece of paper (DSP is fantastic for this!) that is 8-1/2″ wide by 8″ deep.  Score the 8-1/2″ side at 1/2″, 2-1/2″ 4-1/2″ and 6-1/2″.  Turn the paper clockwise and score the 8″ side at 2″ and 5-1/2″.  Cut down the vertical score line until you reach each horizontal score line.

Scalloped Tag Template 2

Then trim off the top and bottom tabs in the 1/2″ score section.  This will leave you with one tab in the center that will help you glue the box together.  On alternating top sections, use your Scalloped Tag Topper Punch to create the pretty tops.  Fold the unpunched sections down and glue down to the center section.  This gives your box a little more stability.  Apply Sticky Strip to the outside of the 1/2″ tab and attach it to the inside of the opposing side.  Fold your bottom sections up to form the bottom of the box attaching with Sticky Strip at each layer.

All that is left is decorating the box.  I cut out some flowers using the Fun Flowers Die.  All the designer papers on the box are from the Sweet Sorbet DSP pack..a Sale-a-bration offering.  Did I mention that Sale-a-bration starts today??!!  YEA!!  Ok..back to the box.  I created a belly band out of Pistachio Pudding card stock.  I spritzed the flowers with water and formed them over the top of a Multipurpose Glue bottle.  This gives them a little extra dimension.  Glued together with Sticky Strip and I added on a Vintage Faceted Button tied with the Sweet Sorbet Accessory Pack twine.  To close the box, I created a faux bow.  Wrap the twine a 2-3 times around your fingers then tie on a button that has been threaded with another piece of twine.  Knot in the center behind the “bow”.  Take the ends of the piece you just knotted and thread through the punched holes.  Tie another little bow to secure the top and make it easy to open.

This box is fast to make and perfect for even new stampers.  I had some try this at a class and their projects were perfect!

Okay, off to go visit the awesome Mercedes Weber.  I can’t wait for you to see what she has created!  Make sure you hop around the whole loop to take a look at beautiful creations by the whole team…you’ll be happy you did!

AWW Jan - You're the Best

What is is about a cute stamp set and coordinating framelits that makes me just want to stamp?  I don’t know but the matchup of Just Sayin’ and the Word Bubbles Framelits is simply fantastic!  So many cute ways to use them!  Now just add in some great DSP and the card practically designs itself.  I’m back to using this great Retro Fresh DSP because…well…I think it is so fun! It finds that happy balance of helping create cards that can be for both men and women.  That in itself is almost magic!  I chose these two prints because I love how they work together and started playing with layering.  Then I had a burst of inspiration and pulled out the Angled Tag Topper Punch and found a winner.  Just look at that tag!  The perfect way to jazz up a card with no actual work.  Oh of course the punch can be used to created tags for whatever you need but don’t you think it is fun added to a card?  I stamped the sentiment from Just Sayin’ onto Very Vanilla card stock after inking it with Tangerine Tango and Pool Party Stampin’ Write Markers.  Then I ran it through my Big Shot using the matching Word Bubble Framelit and popped it up on a Dimensional to attach it to the tag.  I added a little bit of Coastal Cabana Ruffled Ribbon and a button tied with the Sweet Sorbet Accessory Pack twine (Sale-a-bration).

I hope you enjoy this fun and fast card.  I’ll be back tomorrow with another card using some of the same products!

AWW Jan - Gold xoxo

I started by pulling out the Fancy Foil Designer Vellum in Gold.  It is so amazing and even more so when paired with the Gold Foil Sheets!  Using a collection of heart framelits and punches (Hearts a Flutter, Circle Card Thinlits, Small Heart Punch), I created a collection of hearts that I simply sewed together into a little banner.  Then using the Banners Framelits, I cut out a piece of the diagonal strip vellum and sewed it onto some Crumb Cake card stock.  I took my Gorgeous Grunge stamp set and added some splatters with Gold Encore Ink and embossed it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  Finally I cut the xoxo with the Circle Card Thinlit Die and added it as a sentiment.  This was such a fun card to put together and I am loving the gold…you’ll even see more of it in tomorrow’s post!

Happy New Year from Stampin’ Up’s Artisan Design Team!  We are so thrilled to be sharing projects using some of the latest and greatest from the Occasions Catalog.  If you have come over from amazing Jeanna, welcome to the next stop.  If you are starting here, just continue around using the next buttons until you get back to me.

AWW Jan - Sunshine

I am so thrilled with the products in this new catalog.  They look so fresh and fun!  In fact…Retro Fresh!  That is the DSP used here.  Aren’t the colors great?!  I combined it with some items from the upcoming Sale-a-bration (SAB) promotion.  What is that?  Well, on January 28th the most marvelous thing happens.  For every $50 (US) you spend, you get to choose a FREE item from the SAB catalog!!  See those little banners I used to make the sun…Banner Punch…free!  See the texture on the clouds?  Decorative Dots Embossing Folder…free!!  You get the point!  It is awesome!  Ok, for the rest of the details.  I cut the print from Retro Fresh to 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ to make it the same size as my Pool Party card base.  Then I punched a circle out of the Tangerine Tango striped print with my 1-3/8″ Circle Punch.  A bunch of banners with the Banner Punch out of Tangerine Tango Card Stock and arrange until you are happy with your sun.  The clouds?  The shape is one of the Word Bubbles Framelits and then I ran it through with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder to give it a little more dimension.  The sentiment is from Gifts of Kindness (a main catalog set) and it just seemed perfect with the sun and clouds.  A few buttons threaded with Pool Party Twine (from the Sweet Sorbet Accessory Pack…also from SAB and free) to finish it off.

There are lots of ways to use this idea.  Spoiler alert…some of you going to Leadership Conference may see it again on the display boards.  *smile*  I know that I will be using it again for sure.  Nothing like punches and framelits to make cute things quickly!

Starting next Monday, I will begin sharing projects I made for Stampin’ Up’s Leadership Conference.  I can’t wait to show you all that I was working on at the end of November!  The entire Artisan Design Team created projects for the display boards so keep an eye on all of our blogs for the details…yep, we’ll be showing you the how-to’s!

Okay, off to go visit the awesome Mercedes Weber.  I can’t wait for you to see what she has created!  Make sure you hop around the whole loop to take a look at beautiful creations by the whole team…you’ll be happy you did!
