Santa's List by Jen Timko | Santa Paws Newtons Stamps and Dies by Newtons Nook Designs, Sentiments of the Season Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Be Merry DSP by Stampin' Up, Wink of Stella, Deck the Halls with Inky Paws HopThe hardest part of designing for this hop was narrowing down my choices!  This year’s holiday stamps and dies from Newton’s Nook Designs have been just over the top great.  But I kind of had to go “classic” so I pulled out Santa Paws Newton.  I love this set!  I stamped in Versafine Onyx Black and then colored Newton and his friends with my Winsor and Newton watercolor paints.  Once everything was dry, I added some Clear Wink of Stella to Santa Newton’s list for some extra shine.  Which brought me to choosing a sentiment.  How could I resist this one from Sentiments of the Season??  I added a layer of gold washi tape and some gold sequins to add even more shimmer.  Oh what fun!Santa's List Closeup by Jen Timko | Santa Paws Newton Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook DesignsDeck the Halls with Inky Paws Special!

Freshly Made Sketches #316

Freshly Made Sketches #316 published on 9 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #316

FMS316 by Jen Timko | Let It Snow Stamps and Dies by Honey Bee Stamps, WatercolorWell, I’m moving along on my holiday cards and even though I have some that are “mass producible”, I still mostly love when I have time to make a one of a kind card.  I took the opportunity of being the sketch hostess at Freshly Made Sketches as the excuse to take some watercoloring time for myself.

Before I get to the card, a little personal info.  Over the last 3 months I have been on a leave of absence from United Airlines.  Yesterday, it was back to reality.  I went out to Denver to our training center to get re-qualified in the simulator.  Fortunately, being on the same fleet (Airbus 319/320) for almost a decade allows me to not stress the simulators too much after time off.  The reason for the time off??  My husband has been deployed since the end of July.  For security reasons, I simply don’t discuss these things here or in social media but since he comes home this week I felt like I could share.  The boys and I are really happy to get him home!!  In the time he was gone:  one boy started middle school and the other high school, the oldest has grown 3 inches (!!), they both completed full travel soccer seasons, I stayed sane.  *smile*  United Airlines has no reason to have to help me under these circumstances but when I put in my leave request (and the reasons) I got an approval in about 3 days.  This is REAL military family support and I am very, very grateful to them for that.  As much as I love flying, I love being a mom more and this time with the boys has been really important to our family.  So while I am transitioning to getting back to work, this also means that we are almost done with the deployment!  YAY!!!

Now on to the card.  I guess the above explains a little more of why I was savoring some watercolor time.  I fell in love with this Let It Snow stamp set and coordinating dies from Honey Bee Stamps and simply had to use it as soon as possible.  In truth, I chose my sketch to accommodate coloring a scene.  I stamped this adorable snowman and then watercolored with my Winsor and Newton paints (along with some Daniel Smith colors too).  I thought it would be fun to make this guy look like he was creating winter magic.  The sentiment die and stamp are from the matching set and I love how the ‘Christmas’ layers.  I put it all on an Island Indigo card base to emphasize the little bit of blue on our snowy friend.

I hope you love this sketch and will have a few moments to play along this week.  I also want to take a moment to thank my dear friends for all their support during this long 4-1/2 months.  I have an incredibly great village (both local friends and stamping friends) who make all of this possible.  I am blessed and very grateful!  Back on Friday for a fun hop.  Until then, have a great day!

Enjoy Autumn

Enjoy Autumn published on 4 Comments on Enjoy Autumn

Enjoy Autumn by Jen Timko | Autumn Newtons Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Winsor and Newton Paints, WatercolorToday is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog and I’m still in love with all things fall!  Apparently my little friend Newton is too and I pulled out Autumn Newton to color today.

Fall in Virginia is my favorite season and we are finally really entering the season.  About time!  It seemed late to arrive this year.  I love apples and pumpkins and oh do I love the leaves!  I used some of the local fall things as inspiration for my colors (See the spotty gourd?  My friend had a picture of one like that so I had to include it!)  The leaves next to the card are from my yard and I used those colors as a start for my leaf coloring.

Enjoy Autumn Close Up by Jen Timko | Autumn Newton Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Winsor and Newton Paints, WatercolorI thought that using my Winsor and Newton watercolor paints would be the perfect way to color this.  Something about how the paints layers that ink doesn’t makes it great for blending colors and layering texture.  I used Fabriano Extra White Watercolor Paper….one of my favorites.  While the stamp set has wonderful sentiments, I leaned on one of my go-to phrases from the Happy Little Thoughts stamp set.  I thought it fit this sweet image wonderfully!  I cut a the image layer shape with the Snow Globe Shaker Dies for a fun and different look.

I’m also linking this in to the Inspired by All the Little Things challenge….more gorgeous fall loveliness.  I hope you enjoy this autumn extra today!  Make sure to stop by the Newton’s Nook Designs blog for daily inspiration!!  See you tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.

Newton’s Nook Designs 4 Year Celebration – Day 4

Newton’s Nook Designs 4 Year Celebration – Day 4 published on 29 Comments on Newton’s Nook Designs 4 Year Celebration – Day 4

Today is the last day of reveals for the 4 year celebration with Newton’s Nook Designs.  But fear not…we are back tomorrow with a bonus hop to complete the celebration!!  But first, I get to share with you my very favorite set from this release!  It is called Cosmic Newton.  Oh my goodness is it fantastic!

Out of this world by Jen Timko | Cosmic Newton Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Starfield Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs, Watercolor, Winsor and Newton Watercolors, Perfect PearlsFor this card, I thought it would be fun to play with watercolor paints.  So I started with the background.  On a piece of watercolor paper, I painted on some blues and even a little purple to create a sky that would be right for the new Starfield stencil.  After letting my panel dry, I used the stencil as an embossing plate but running it through my Big Shot with an Impressions Pad and a Silicone Rubber Pad.  It gives a subtle embossing look that I was really happy with.  You can see me more of the detail here:Closeup by Jen Timko | Cosmic Newton Stamp and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Starfield Stencil by Newton's Nook Designs

But then I returned to using the stencil as just a stencil.  I kept it in place and the sponged on some white craft ink on the stars toward the top of the card.  Then I brushed a bit of Perfect Pearls on top of that to add some shimmer.  I have to confess that I’m pretty in love with the whole effect!!  For my friend Newton, I thought he needed a really special rocket to stand out against the sky, so I chose purple for his ship.  It is hard to tell here but I added some more Perfect Pearls on the window around Newton and also on the banner.

I hope you have enjoyed all of the release projects this week!  The team has certainly provided a ton of inspiration!!  And this release has been simply spectacular!  And now…your chance to win one more time!

Amazing Friend

Amazing Friend published on 4 Comments on Amazing Friend

Amazing Friend by Jen Timko | Lovely Blooms Stamp by Newton's Nook Designs, WatercolorToday is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog and I am so excited about this one!  I had a card like this in mind for a while using the Lovely Blooms stamp set and this exceeded even what I had envisioned (and that NEVER happens).  The best part, it came together so quickly.  This is super fun and really easy to reproduce!

I stamped using Versamark ink onto Strathmore Mixed Media paper.  Quick and sort of random with nothing too fussy.  Then I heat embossed using white embossing powder.  I love the half wreath feel so I added this great sentiment from the set using the same method.  Then all I did was color using Winsor and Newton paints. I got the image wet and dropped in color.  For some I let the colors combine but with others (purple specifically) it is best to let things dry first and then layer color on top.  With paints, you can do that and avoid muddiness.  I added these sweet little Clear Round Drops from Studio Katia to mimic the look of water.

I hope this will encourage you to try your hand at watercoloring too.  It doesn’t all have to be in the lines or perfect!  Hope you have a great day.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Freshly Made Sketches #280

Freshly Made Sketches #280 published on 8 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #280

FMS280 by Jen Timko | Botanical Garden Stamp Set by Altenew, Healing Wings by Skipping Stones DesignEver see a sketch and know that whatever you make with it will be awesome?  That is how I felt the minute I saw this one from Freshly Made Sketches.  The incredible Linda Callahan created this beauty and the possibilities are endless!

I thought these gorgeous images from the Botanical Garden would be great for the sketch.  I stamped them onto Canson Watercolor Paper using Versafine Ink.  Then I colored using Winsor and Newton Watercolor Paints.  I just got these and was swatching them when I thought I should just break them in and see what happened.  I kind of love the possibilities!!  Once I was done coloring the images, I cut them out to see how they looked for the sketch.  I felt like they needed a little bit of a background so I added a little more color behind them before stamping the sentiment.  I love this one!!  And it is perfect for my friend that will receive this card.

Our design team has done their always excellent job this week and you will be so inspired.  I hope you will have as much fun with this sketch as I did.  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  See you soon!
