I’m over on the Picket Fence Studios blog today with a fun birthday card idea that is great for anyone on your list! Let’s face it, everyone loves a shaker card. What is not to like?! Even my boys go a little shaker crazy when I show them one I have made.
So I thought it would be a great way to highlight the Rough Around the Edges background stamp and the Happy Happy Happy Birthday sentiment set. But other backgrounds or sentiment would work great too! I have the how-to over at the company blog so hop over there to take a look.
I love the mint color on this for a fresh feel but any color would be fun. Find some sequins or jewels in your stash, pick coordinating ink and paper, make a quick shaker, send a smile to someone! Today I have my last Feature Friday with Concord and 9th and we are showing off the new Furry Friends stamp set. So many different elements with so many options!! So of course I had to make two cards.
First up, I chose the reindeer and decided to turn him into a little Rudolph for Christmas. My first Christmas card of the year, I think. I stamped the wreath and added some clear rhinestones for sparkle. Then I stamped the line image for the deer and added the inner solid images.
These are remarkable easy to line up, especially if you have a MISTI. I did the same for the antlers and again, easy to line up. I colored a rhinestone with a red Copic Marker to add to the nose…so fun!! Finally a sentiment from one of my favorites, O Christmas Tree. I put the image panel over some great red patterned paper to help pull the red from the nose and to give it a festive feel. These would be easy to make in a stack (I need to get on that)!
For my second card, I thought the unicorn option would be fun. I used some leftover panels that I had created using the Marbled Smooch technique and as part of my Smooch Accent Ink review for Splitcoaststampers. The panel on the back side of the shaker and the paper pieced mane on the unicorn were cut from a pattern I created. I thought the blues and purples were a natural for a unicorn. I stamped the horn, colored with some Gold Lamé Smooch and then stamped again one the Smooch was dry to cover if I went a little out of the lines. Again, the MISTI is perfect to make this fast and simple. The frame is from the coordinating die set in the bundle…love those stitched details, don’t you? I added a variety of sequins to match and put the shaker and sentiment on a base of Fog Gray.
It has been such a privilege to work with Concord and 9th this month. I’m grateful for the chance to help show off these amazing products and I have become even more of a fan of C9 (if that is possible). Thanks for stopping in today. See you soon!

Welcome back for day 2 of the March Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. We are back with a pair that is sure to bring a smile. Introducing the Uplifting Wishes Stamp Set and the coordinating Balloon Shaker Die.
Is there anyone that doesn’t love a shaker card?! I think not! I love the idea of a balloon shaker and today’s combination of products is fun for so many occasions. I stamped this sentiment onto Shimmery White paper with Versafine Onyx Black ink and then cut it out using the outline balloon. I cut another piece of the same white with the shaker border die. I ran some of the double sided foam (NND) through with the shaker border die and the acetate (NND) through with the outline. I ran some antistatic powder around the inside edge of the foam (to keep the sequins from sticking) and they put the whole thing together. I think it takes longer to type up how to do it than to actually make this fun balloon! Once my little shaker was together, all I had to do was put it on a fun background. I used the Frames and Flags dies to layer these prints and tied on a little coordinating twine to finish the balloon before attaching it.

Welcome to day 2 of the Holiday Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. After a spectacular start to this week, I’m back today with another must-have set of products. Yes indeed, a snow globe!! Oh, the possibilities!
What is it about a shaker card that makes everyone happy? No one can resist them! And when the shaker is a snow globe? It is sure to be a holiday hit! As usual, the hardest part of my card was narrowing down which images to use. Because I love them all! I settled on the little houses and Santa because well, it is Santa!! I loved the idea of using silver, navy and white to create an adorable winter scene for my snow globe. And it is super fun to do. I find it easier to show you in a video so I created a tutorial for you.
Make sure you take note of the foam and acetate sheet packs that will be available on Friday. These are a great deal and you’ll want them on hand for all kinds of projects.
I said yesterday how much I love sentiment sets…just take a look at how perfectly Snow Globe Scenes coordinates with Sentiment of the Season from yesterday. When font styles coordinate for the insides and outsides of a card, that makes like so easy for the holidays!

I rarely work in so much pink but, you know, sometimes you just have to go all in! I colored our little beauty using shades of pink and purple to create a dress worthy of her highness. I seem to have an obsession with shaker cards lately and this pack of pink sequins and beads was the perfect filler for my super girly card. I have the perfect recipient and mind and she LOVES princesses. And this just happens to look a little like her. Isn’t it awesome when you find a stamp set that you know is sure to bring a smile?!! Maybe because it is because my oldest son is a “beginning of summer” baby, haha! But something about these bright happy sequins from Studio Katia and this adorable tag die screamed birthday to me. After consulting with my youngest son (this card was from him for his brother), we chose the Newton Loves Cake stamp to color for the card. I love this little Newton and I colored his cupcake with Copics to match the sequins. Adorable!! This tag die makes creating a shaker super easy too.With the black card stock, it was hard to see the tag details in my full picture so I wanted to show you a closeup too. I created my own mix of sequins with the Sunny Side Up, Enchanted Sea and Lipstick Red Sequins. I have to admit that Newton looks pretty proud of his giant cupcake, don’t you think?! Again, little brother thought the striped paper behind the tag made the card look like a “boy card” so I trusted his judgement. I tied on some red ribbon and black baker’s twine to finish the tag. The verdict??? As soon as the birthday boy picked up the envelope, he knew it was a shaker card. And apparently even 14 year old boys who are very, very cool cannot resist shaking a shaker card! *smile* Now you need to get on with the hop but first…

Oh, look at the amazing sketch we have for you today over at Freshly Made Sketches! My friend Linda Callahan, queen of clever, is our hostess this week and her sketch will get you moving right to your craft room!
As soon as I saw the sketch, I thought shaker card. So that is just what I made! I did a quick watercolor using Tim Holtz Distress Inks on these fun flowers from the Lovely Blooms Stamp set (Newton’s Nook Designs) and cut them out with coordinating dies. I chose colors to match my awesome sequins from Studio Katia and to make my coordination easy. I cut a frame with Stitched Shapes Thinlits (SU). The sentiment from Happy Little Thoughts (NND) was stamped onto the window sheet (also cut with the square die) and then heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. Kind of wish I had black powder for a sharper look but I think this works with the loose watercolor look from the flowers. I rooted around in my DSP stack until I found a print that worked in the background. I kind of love these stripes!

I hope you have had a wonderful start to your week! I’m here to make sure a great week is assured with the May release from Newton’s Nook Designs. There is lots to love with this one and it all starts with an adorable version of our favorite bear, Winston!
Do you have golfers in your life? If so, you need this set called Winston’s Tee Time. As soon as possible! Our friend Winston is having some fun at the course and he comes with some awesome sentiments too. I just love a great pun and this set has them for sure.
I thought a shaker card would be perfect with this set and I’m super happy with the result! I created the frame with some stitched rectangle dies and added texture with a wood grain embossing folder. Then I created the golf green for the inside of the shaker with the Land Borders Die. I stamped the images with Momento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with Copic Markers. The little flag was attached inside the shaker area and then I put in some sequins that match Winston’s outfit. My oldest son is convinced that Winston is going to miss his shot but I am pretty sure he is just reading a complicated green. And clearly there are some hazards to deal with, haha! While this set is great for Father’s Day, it is also just perfect for any golf fan! And I just bet you know the best part….you can get the set for free!
