Newton’s Nook Designs November Release – Llama Delivery and Newton’s Candy Cane

Welcome to the last day of the November Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. This release week is a shortened a bit due to the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday but we get to share two new sets again today! And….there is a Black Friday sale on release day. Yay for sales!

I’m starting off today’s reveal with a card that doubles as my Freshly Made Sketches card this week. The queen of perfect layering, Narelle Farrugia, created this fun sketch that worked perfectly with this super new Llama Delivery stamp set. While this set can work great for the holidays, I chose to make it into a birthday card. I have some family members with December birthdays and it is always nice to have a card with nary a holiday color in sight. Using my Zig Clean Color Markers, I colored these images and then cut them out with the coordinating dies. I love, love, love this llama!! The sentiment from the set fit well with the sketch too.

I can hardly even contain my excitement over the last set for our reveals this month. As always, we have Newton. And this holiday version is simply adorable. I chose the striped paper with splatters for my layering tag and then colored the image to match. This little guy just steals my heart!! I even added some splatters to his hat and scarf to mimic the paper. What a great time I had coloring with my Copics on him The new Fancy Edges Tag Dies are great for quick take and I love how you can choose different ways to add interest with the accessories. It is simply a must have for holiday packaging!

This week of reveals seems to have flown by but that means you are really close to being ready to shop. As per normal, these will all be available on Friday with the advantage of a Black Friday sale to make shopping even more fun. And now on to one last chance to win!!

Newton’s Nook Designs November Release – Winter Woofs

Welcome to day 2 of the November Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. Our share for you today is sure to be a hit with all the dog people among us. Because our team loves ALL the critters!!

I know a few corgi fans that are going to love this fellow on the sled! To be honest, I went to my Facebook feed and looked at some of their sweet corgis to choose the colors for this guy. Isn’t he fun?! I used the Land Borders Dies for his snow slope. I sponged some ink onto watercolor paper and used these little snowflake dies from the Snow Globe Shaker Dies to add a few little flakes to the scene. The new Frames & Flags Dies create a great frame for it all.

Take a look at all the options on this awesome stamp set. That husky building a snow man is too cute!! I can’t wait to go see what the team created. Now on to everyone’s favorite part of release week. A chance to win!!

Newton’s Nook Designs November Release – Cup of Cocoa and Frozen Fellowship

Welcome to day 1 of the November Release from Newton’s Nook Designs. We have such fun products to show you this week and we are starting today with lots to share. Two stamp sets and two new stand alone die sets….wow!

Our first set I’m showing you is called Cup of Cocoa! ** Warning: Triggers uncontrollable tendencies to run to the kitchen and make some cocoa immediately!! ** I used the Color Theory paper from Stampin’ Up and the Snowfall Stencil from Newton’ Nook as an embossing folder. This is a great way to stretch your stencils and add fun details to a background. I colored this adorable cup from the set to match the ombré paper. Fun, right?! The new Frames & Flags Dies create quick banners that layer wonderfully and all I had to do was add a sentiment from the stamp set.

For my second card, I get to show you Frozen Fellowship. This is perfect for holiday cards but it continues to work into the rest of winter too! The minute I saw this set, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I loved the idea of choosing one of the snowmen to stand out as unique and the used this fabulous sentiment. Using my Zig Clean Color Markers, I colored all the snowmen in shade of gray. Then chose this funny little guy at the bottom for full color (I confess that choosing which snowman to have color was the hard part, haha). I used the new Frames & Flags Dies again here and you can see how awesome they are to create layers.

Yes, indeed, this is another amazing day 1. And I did tell you there are two new stand alone dies. The other one (which I will use later this week) is called the Fancy Edges Tag Die set and you are going to love it! You can see all the features in the graphic below. Newton’s Nook Designs September Release – Newton’s Costume Party

Welcome to the last day of the September release from Newton’s Nook Designs. I know you have been waiting for it so here it is…NEWTON! In costumes! Oh my goodness, this set could not be even a little cuter!

Seriously…if you love Halloween, you will just fall in love with this set. An adorable Newton with costumes of all kinds. The hardest part for today’s post was choosing which one to start with! I thought that the little bee was hilarious (and I always think little kids dressed like bees are too sweet for words). Jen and Jeff have made this set perfect for quick cards too. All you have to do is stamp and cut out the images. Easy layering for fast and fun cards! I did just that. I stamped the bee suit and the wings, plus the kitty and cut them out with the matching dies. I did some quick Copic coloring and then dug through my stash of patterned papers to find some that matched. I thought this yellow striped paper was perfect behind my little kitty bee. Oh, and take a closer look a the coloring.

I added a little bit of Wink of Stella to the wings. Because every bee needs shimmery wings, don’t you think? Now I get to play with the rest of the costumes. You are sure to want to do the same! And now for the part you always love!!

STAMPtember – Loads of Thanks

We are in the middle of the Newton’s Nook Designs release week so what better time to share the newest STAMPtember set from Simon Says Stamp?!! Yes, today we celebrate the collaboration with Simon Says Stamp and Newton’s Nook Designs so you have to know how happy that makes me! Two fabulous companies!

This sweet stamp set comes with our little dog friend pushing a wheel barrow and LOTS of options for filling it. I thought it would be fun to add in the bunny and leaves, which gave me the perfect excuse to use the new Falling Leaves Stencil that NND revealed yesterday (and available on Friday, Sept. 15th). I stamped the bunny and then masked to add the wheelbarrow in a way that makes the leaves kind of spill over. Isn’t it cute?! Then, using my Chameleon Pens and Color Tops, I colored the images. I love how I can get a real fall leaf feel with the shading from these Color Tops! I wanted the focus to stay on the image but the embossing paste with the stencil adds just the right amount of interest behind our little friends. Gotta say, these are a perfect go-together. Remember, this STAMPtember release is only available directly from Simon Says Stamp (and conveniently enough, they will have the new stencil a SSS on Friday once it goes “live”). If all that wasn’t enough, there is a matching die set for the images too. Good luck holding onto your paycheck! Newton’s Nook Designs September Release – Shades of Autumn and Falling Leaves

Welcome to day 1 of the September release from Newton’s Nook Designs. Fall is definitely in the air and Newton’s Nook is ready! We are starting off with a beautiful set called Shades of Autumn and a brand new stencil, Falling Leaves. Both are fabulous!

The detail on these images is really special and I wanted to make sure I showed the stamp detail as much as possible. I thought that using the Distress Oxide Ink would do just that. The ink is a bit thicker than some of the dye inks and grabs onto the stamp differently. And then you have the added benefit of how it moves with water. So I stamped the leaves and then spritzed with some water to get the ink run just a little. Then I added some additional splatters with the ink and water mixed together. The sentiment from the the set is such a nice size and fit perfectly with the leaves. I cut out the panel with Cross-Stitched Rectangles Dies and the mounted on a base of Audrey Blue card stock cut with the same. There are more fun leaves in this set and I can’t wait to play some more with them. Of course, there are coordinating dies that makes your layering super easy. And this stencil is GORGEOUS…perfect for all of your fall projects! And now for the part you always love!!

Rainy Day

Today is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog and given the news from Texas, my inspiration for this isn’t too hard to guess. I thought that Newton’s Rainy Day was the perfect set for creating a card right now.

As soon as I pulled out this image with the big umbrella, I thought that my new Chameleon Color Tops would be fun to use. And yep, was I right! The shading on each panel was created by starting with a base color pen and then infusing with another color. So my Fuchsia (PK5) pen was infused with Mellow Yellow (YO2) and what a cool effect, don’t you think?! Same with the Turquoise (BG3) (infused with Mellow Yellow). For the duck I used Mellow Yellow infused with Tangerine (OR3). The kitty is Neutral Gray (NG4).

I combined “regular” Chameleon use with the Color Tops on this and it is amazing how much fun it was to experiment with color options. Once I finished coloring, I was looking for just the right background when this one virtually jumped out at me. Um, yeah…the ombré yellow from the Color Theory DSP matched perfectly! I created a little frame and added some sequins and left most of the focus on this adorable image and its bright colors. I hope you like my Newton’s extra this month. Newton’s Nook Designs and Chibitronics Inspiration Week plus a Giveaway

This week Newton’s Nook Designs and Chibitronics are partnering for a fabulous inspiration week! All week long both design teams will be sharing ways to light up your cards using Chibi lights with Newton’s Nook Designs stamps! This is a match just made to work together since so many of the NND sets have features that are perfect for lighting up.

As soon as I heard about the collaboration, my first thought was this dragon from Knight’s Quest. I just knew that somehow he had to have “real” fire! I started by coloring the images with Copic Markers (I have colors listed in my YouTube video). I cut the hills using the Land Borders Dies (NND) and stitched rectangles dies (SSS). My base is the new Tranquil Tide card stock (a Stampin’ Up In Color) that is sponged with Night of Navy ink. The hills are Night of Navy and Smoky Slate (SU). I put one of the red lights behind the fire and yellow lights behind the windows to create this awesome interactive card. Want to see it lit?!

It is so awesome in person too! I created a short video to show you a few more specifics on how I created the circuit and the “switch” for this. Things I learned along the way….Think of a fun place for the switch so that it is easy for the recipient, make sure you press the copper tape on really well (I used a bone folder), check your circuits before gluing stuff down (I may have checked a few too many time, haha). The kit comes with great directions on building your circuits. Mine is a pretty basic parallel circuit. Here is my video so you can see the rest:

Coffee Makes You Sharper!

Today is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog and I wanted to share a fun card with this adorable Cuppa Cactus set. It is such a fun set for coloring and I love this sentiment!

I tried a new color combination for today and I really like this pale yellow with the purple. I chose the purple for coloring the cup and then mimicked it with the Sea Borders Dies to add a little scallop edge on the bottom of the image panel. I think it adds an interesting pop of color but it is super easy to create. I pulled out a button, which somehow seemed to be just the right touch for the twine.

Now I know this is a pretty clean card but I wanted just to spend a few minutes on the coloring. Seems like time is at a premium but the coloring was just what I needed for a little “mom break”. Only one more week until school is ready to start and then I’ll have lots more time for more complicated cards. Until then, less layers, pretty colors…yep, totally a summer vibe. Newton’s Nook Designs and Xyron Inspiration Week

Welcome back for a special post today. I’m so excited to share that Newton’s Nook Designs and Xyron have partnered for an amazing inspiration week. Each day this week there are fresh ideas using Newton’s Nook Designs stamps and Xyron adhesives on both the NND blog and the Xyron Facebook page.As I thought about how to best show you both the stamps and the adhesive, I realized that a window card would be perfect for both! I chose the Toucan Party stamp set (it really is fun, don’t you think?!) and created this fun window that depends on the strength of a good permanent adhesive. I colored the images using Copic markers to coordinate with this Color Theory DSP from Stampin’ Up. Want to see the inside?
