A Fond Farewell

A Fond Farewell published on 2 Comments on A Fond Farewell

So today is a day that I have really mixed feelings about.  A year and half ago, I was given the amazing opportunity to become a design team member for Newton’s Nook Designs.  Jen and Jeff Jackson took a chance on me and I am forever grateful!  Being on this team has allowed me to stretch creatively with the support of an incredible group of designers.  What a privilege!  But today, it is time to say goodbye as a team member.  Making the decision to leave was a tough one but it is the right one for me right now.  I’m going to breathe, create for me and see what stamping adventure comes next.

But first, I want to let you know what I have learned being on this team.  I always knew that small business owners were important to our country.  Now I know for sure that small business owners are the heart of it.  Especially in our creative world, I’m grateful for entrepreneurs like Jen and Jeff.  They run Newton’s Nook Designs with love and caring.  You see this in their art and humor.  And as a design team member, you get to see behind the curtain, so to speak.  What did I find??  More love and caring.  The design team becomes family. The communication and organization is so impressive.  I can hardly find enough compliments for how I feel about the entire experience working with Newton’s Nook.

When I needed to ponder a “farewell” card, I was a bit overwhelmed.  I finally decided to create a card with my very first NND stamp.  You have seen me return to it often and it remains an all time favorite.  In the end, I created something clean, because I guess that is really who I am creatively.  Lovely Amazing You by Jen Timko | Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Set by Newton's Nook DesignsI stamped in Versafine Onyx Black and then heat embossed with Clear Embossing Powder.  Then I pulled out my Daniel Smith paints and just painted for fun.  I tried to create some color variations on the flowers and just create a pretty summer wreath.  I added this sentiment from the stamp set (all of them in the set are fantastic).  But I thought that is was perfect for all of you who have supported my work while on the DT.  For all the kind and encouraging comments, I cannot tell you how much they mean.  Thank you, all of you, for your sweet words!

So over at the Newton’s Nook Blog today, they have posted some cards that are my faves from the last year and a half.  I hope you’ll go over to visit and see them.  And as with all change, you will find out some fun news over the next few days about who will be joining the team to inspire you.  You are sure to be thrilled!  Thanks so much for stopping in today.  I’m grateful you shared some time with me.  See you soon!

Enjoy Autumn

Enjoy Autumn by Jen Timko | Autumn Newtons Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Winsor and Newton Paints, WatercolorToday is my day to share a project on the Newton’s Nook Designs Blog and I’m still in love with all things fall!  Apparently my little friend Newton is too and I pulled out Autumn Newton to color today.

Fall in Virginia is my favorite season and we are finally really entering the season.  About time!  It seemed late to arrive this year.  I love apples and pumpkins and oh do I love the leaves!  I used some of the local fall things as inspiration for my colors (See the spotty gourd?  My friend had a picture of one like that so I had to include it!)  The leaves next to the card are from my yard and I used those colors as a start for my leaf coloring.

Enjoy Autumn Close Up by Jen Timko | Autumn Newton Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Winsor and Newton Paints, WatercolorI thought that using my Winsor and Newton watercolor paints would be the perfect way to color this.  Something about how the paints layers that ink doesn’t makes it great for blending colors and layering texture.  I used Fabriano Extra White Watercolor Paper….one of my favorites.  While the stamp set has wonderful sentiments, I leaned on one of my go-to phrases from the Happy Little Thoughts stamp set.  I thought it fit this sweet image wonderfully!  I cut a the image layer shape with the Snow Globe Shaker Dies for a fun and different look.

I’m also linking this in to the Inspired by All the Little Things challenge….more gorgeous fall loveliness.  I hope you enjoy this autumn extra today!  Make sure to stop by the Newton’s Nook Designs blog for daily inspiration!!  See you tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.

Freshly Made Sketches #289

Freshly Made Sketches #289 published on 8 Comments on Freshly Made Sketches #289

FMS289 by Jen Timko | Lovely Blooms Stamps and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Studio Katia SequinsOh, look at the amazing sketch we have for you today over at Freshly Made Sketches!  My friend Linda Callahan, queen of clever, is our hostess this week and her sketch will get you moving right to your craft room!

As soon as I saw the sketch, I thought shaker card.  So that is just what I made!  I did a quick watercolor using Tim Holtz Distress Inks on these fun flowers from the Lovely Blooms Stamp set (Newton’s Nook Designs) and cut them out with coordinating dies.  I chose colors to match my awesome sequins from Studio Katia and to make my coordination easy.  I cut a frame with Stitched Shapes Thinlits (SU).  The sentiment from Happy Little Thoughts (NND) was stamped onto the window sheet (also cut with the square die) and then heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  Kind of wish I had black powder for a sharper look but I think this works with the loose watercolor look from the flowers.  I rooted around in my DSP stack until I found a print that worked in the background.  I kind of love these stripes!

I have been stamping madly and have lots coming up for you in the next couple of weeks.  Until next time, I hope you have an amazing day!  Thanks for stopping in!

Beautiful Flower for Newton’s Nook Designs

Beautiful Flower for Newton’s Nook Designs published on 4 Comments on Beautiful Flower for Newton’s Nook Designs

Beautiful Flower by Jen Timko | Beautiful Spring Stamp Set and Dies by Newton's Nook Designs, Happy Little Thoughts Stamp Set by Newton's Nook Designs, Pop of Pink DSP by Stampin' UpIt is my turn for a bonus project over at the Newton’s Nook Designs blog today and I want to share all the details with you here.  I remain obsessed with the quilled designs in the Beautiful Spring stamp set and I wanted to focus on the flower today.

The art work on this series of stamps (Beautiful Swirls) is really stunning and I thought that stamping on vellum might be a great way to show off the art within the images.  I stamped in Versamark ink and then heat embossed with white embossing powder.  Then I colored on the back side of the image using Copic markers.  It is hard to capture on camera but in person you can see the shading on the flower and leaves a bit more.  The coordinating dies make quick work of cutting this out and all I had to do next was figure out how to show off the flower!  I first tried it against white (and I’ll admit, it is really pretty) but I wanted something a bit bolder.  So I pulled this gold tag from my stash and I knew I was moving in the right direction.  I chose a sentiment from Happy Little Thoughts.  Apparently this is becoming one of my go-to sentiments!  Love that whole set!  I chose this patterned paper from Stampin’ Up and added some colored rhinestones to coordinate with the red flower.

I hope you are having a fabulous week so far.  I have been working busily on the March release that is coming up next week for Newton’s Nook Designs.  Oh, you are going to be in love!  Suffice it to say I have made multiple cards already for some of the sets because I keep getting distracted with them!  Maybe today will be the day I stay on track…..or not!  Either way, I can’t wait to share with you!  Back tomorrow with the latest from Freshly Made Sketches.  Thanks so much for stopping in.  See you soon!
